This is actually kind of hard to decide on. On one hand, you have more than seventy characters, and on the other, just eleven. The thing is, I love and play characters from both base game and DLC (currently maining Ike, have a secondary Steve and Joker and used to have a secondary Byleth), so it’s not exactly an easy choice. I think I’m gonna have to say base game though. I love Steve and Joker so much (Minecraft is one of my top three games and I mained Joker when he came out) but ultimately base game has so much more variety with characters that are just as fun to play as some DLC. So yeah, def base game.
Steve players aren’t allowed to have opinions. Especially when Minecraft is a top 3 game of all time for them. That means you’ve at most played 4 games in your life
@@Valentinesdayghost not even that dawg. I've had to deal with one of the best Steve players anywhere near where I live (I'm in the US btw) and I enjoy fighting him. As Falcon, Byleth, or Joker I have fun with the matchup, even when I'm losing. Some people just don't get that you need to deal with a character to learn counterplay. There's no "unwinnable" matchup. It's all about game experience and mentality, which clearly, Mr "Steve players can't have opinions" doesn't have. (Btw I don't even play Steve lol, so there's no bias)
Overall, your point is very solid. Dispite my love for Captain Falcon, K Rool, and Link, I would have to pick DLC. I enjoy the DLC a lot and it has a good amount of variety. My non DLC mains aren't amazing, but my DLC mains are top tier. I picked the DLC mains because I enjoy them, and they happen to be good. Byleth is my main alongside C Falcon, behind them are Joker and Ageis. I love both rosters, but I enjoy DLC, and it has better characters. So I'd have to go with it. I think your pick of base game is perfectly valid, and for good reasons. It really depends who you play and how you enjoy the game.
depends on context imo if you seriously want to compete at top level, I think late-game Ult meta, the play is definitely learn and lab Steve. obviously anyone is viable, look at Sonix right here arguably top 3 in the world with base game char but for the average person, I think it's gotta be Steve
I'd probably have to say Non-DLC for me. Even though I main Sephiroth, it's still extremely close with some other characters. Lucario, Meta Knight, Ridley. ... Also I may pick up Sonic if I actually wanted to "pick a top tier". I like fighting Sonic, I love playing Sonic, but uuuuh I know not other people are like that. That said, I'm not playing in tournaments, only fighting people that go to them, so I don't have to worry about timeouts that much. Also I do get away with being extremely aggressive with Sonic currently, but part of me wonders if that's just people not knowing the matchup along with me reading people since Sonic advantage can be kinda nutty.
Bro sonic is literally the second best character in the game dude you are just coping at this point and okay so banjo, piranha plant, hero and Sephiroth are all pay to win because they are dlcs

The joke is that for the earlier copies it is the base game and for later it's dlc
I've had like 8 mains over the course of Ultimate and they were all base game, so...
No shit sonix
Does Random count as a base-game character?

Yea that sonic f smash is tough to deal with if you aren’t familiar 😂
The game would be better without dlc even though some of them are fun (like byleth or plant)
