I have a red 88 with 82k miles. It's down now due to an electrical problem, but I'll never sell her and hopefully I'll get this fixed by Christmas. lol

I had a Starion (white exterior and red plush inside), loved it!! Destroyed the Mustang/Camero crowd as my HP/weight ratio was MUCH better. Added a simple vaccum control (manual) to increase the boost, for 1980's the thing was crazy fast (197 HP stock, squeezed out 250 HP).
Not to mention talking about the widebody while sowing noting but pics of the narrow body AND first pic shown while discussing the engine has a Toyota engine.
At 0:40, that is a Chrysler Laser XE. NOT a Star/Quest. Mentions the "wide body" version then proceeds to NOT show a widebody and then a 300ZX. The Conquest was only sold as a Chrysler that I have ever seen.
I remember the Conquest being sold as a Dodge, being surprised when it was the sold as a Chrysler, and confused just now to hear it sold also as a Plymouth. Behold, searching found a 1986 Plymouth sold by Garage Kept Motors in Grand Rapids; looking at all the pictures there is not one Plymouth badge on the car, amazing.
My neighbour had one in the 90s. He let me drive it once, threw me the keys, and some cash, said take it time the car wash. I was like, mmmkay.... yes. First turbo car I ever drove. I now own 3 turbo cars. Love em!

The Conquest TSI was one of the cars I lusted after when I was younger. Both the TSI and the Starion were awesome automobiles in both performance and looks.

Mitsu Sigma, Magna, Canter, all had variations of the 2.6. Try an Aussie wrecker and get them to ship it. Probs just grab the whole motor. Magna ones had balance shafts, but were FWD.
I loved my Starion ESi. One of the best looking Japanese cars of all time, in my opinion. The specs were pretty good too: RWD, stock front mount intercooler, limited slip, Dukes of Hazzard fun! The transmission was the weak link. The brakes heated up fast too, but at least they didn't grenade. The psychotic-mouse seatbelts were memorable too.
Growing up in the 1st gen DSM era I have been familiar with the Starquest and still plan to own one someday, my favorite car from the 80's!! Great video!

I had a 83 JB Starion - loved it - it was a car I lusted over since it came out, and got one in 1990 - Had it for too short of time... I only sold as I 'needed to', not because I wanted to... Hard to get one now in nice condition, but would love to have it as a sunday ride.....
I never forgot about the Starion. I remember my friend's neighbor had one circa 1992 and he had a bumper sticker on it that read "Life Begins at 170mph"
I had an 88' Conquest TSi, The only car I ever really had that was perfect from day one, until it was crushed by a drunk driver. I cleaned that thing with Q-tips, and babied it so much :D. It was an all white ext. with red leather, and analog gauges, which I loved far more than the digital dash. I found some rear wheels, and put them on the front, then I could rotate tires with 245/45 RE71's all around. I managed to yank a bit more power out of it with the help of some HKS love. I'll never forget it, loved that car

I was always interested in the Starion. I owned a 1981 Dodge Challenger which could be called this car's predecessor. I loved that car. I wish I could find one today in good condition.
My uncle bought a brand new 85. In 84 ($18000) it was like a space ship then 😂 he gave it to me in the early 2000's, after it had sat for a few years As much as I liked it, I could never get the fuel system working right again (lack of available parts at the time)

I miss the nostalgia 😢 when I was a kid I drooled over a Mitsubishi 3000GT and Dodge stealth I imagined having either version, but in. 2009 I got the last Hyundai Tiburon GT love the Copy cat like Maserati shape and V6 very fun lightweight vehicle it’s been paid off but needs mechanical work which I can no longer repair or up keep, the cost to repair and my insurance going up on it I have to part ways I’m married now to my wife and no longer to my car but will make due with one vehicle my memories I will always cherish, I’m sure owners of these vehicles felt truly special and cherished the design and performance as well great video 😊

The A187 chassis was quite stiff out of the box compared to its contemporaries. After starting with a flat fender 85 then moving on to a TSI 86 then 87, I still feel this was one of the most fun cars I’ve owned.
These were VERY COOL!. I worked at Speed Merchant in San Jose in the late 80's, and customers there will remember my Hemi Orange Aspen R/T that had a set of the 16x8 and 16x9 Conquest TSI wheels and 255/50/16 Comp T'A's. I had the centers bored to fit a standard 4-lug cap (which I put Weld Wheel emblems on) and had to slightly trim the front upper control arms. Those wheels were so great looking, I loved them!
1:08 Mitsubishi was fully 2 years behind the Nissan 910 Bluebird SSS Turbo sedan and Coupe, which had proper multi point EFI and was turbo charged in 1980. This same Z18ET engine was then installed in the S110 Silva as well in 1982. It was a genuine Coupe contender against to Station, with similar power and much less weight. The Station engine had center point fuel injection - basically a rich man's carburettor, the extra 200cc allowed it to make 8kw more power.
TBI just a slightly better carb? I would not say that, but maybe that is because I was around Chevy trucks often. The V8 Chevy trucks got a TBI engine in 1987. It was a huge improvement over the smog carb found in earlier Chevy trucks. You ever deal with a carb that is connected with an O2 sensor? TBI is a massive improvement over that.
Use to have a 1989 Chrysler Conquest Tsi! Killer 5 speed with incredible interior. Ran the tires bald and enjoyed the hell out of it. Kids came then had to upgrade to 4 doors

This was my dream car when I was in high school. We occasionally had them in the shop I worked at after graduating, and they were just great cars to drive. If someone could find and restomod one today that would be the coolest thing ever! Parts are no doubt very hard to get though.
My cousin had a conquest tsi and we would embarrass mustang 5.0’s back in the day. I couldn’t believe how fast that car was for its time and displacement. One of my favorite cars of all time

We called the Star I on. They were all over the junkyards in the 90's the tbi 2.6 turbo wasn't great compared with the 5mge in the supra. They looked great with huge fenders.
Such a great era for Japanese cars. I never owned one but got to drive a few. Definitely a fun car. I wish Japanese would bring back some of the 80’s styling in a more modern way.
My understanding why the Starion had rear ABS was because it was known to swap ends like the old 911 did under trail braking and instead of redesigning the rear suspension, ABS was their answer.
WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ?? Except early days of Turbos, so you didn't shut off the engine UNTIL you gave the turbo a few minutes to spin down & cool off. Great looks, package, layout, features, options, & engine sizes. Love the wide track years.
The Starion was not just underrated and underappreciated in its era, even today you would be hard pressed to find a modern japanese car enthusiats that recognizes it much less knows anything about them.
I used to look down on these as a wannabe 944. (Actually I've NEVER seen a Starion, ever, having only seen Conquests.) Then I took the time to learn about them and found them to be just as cool as a similar vintage Supra or early Z car. (Pre-ZX.) Now to find a nice unmolested one is a bit more difficult than it was in the early 90's! (Even though I was prejudiced against them in the day, I could still admit that the Dodge Conquest in the metallic blue looked really good. The color I'd want mine to be.)

The Starion was not just underrated and underappreciated in its era, even today you would be hard pressed to find a modern japanese car enthusiats that recognizes it much less knows anything about them.

I was a fan of the Starion, particularly after it appeard in Cannonball Run II with Jackie Chan and Richard Kiel as its drivers.
I did not forget, I recently saw one on a flatbed headed for a collector

I used to look down on these as a wannabe 944. (Actually I've NEVER seen a Starion, ever, having only seen Conquests.) Then I took the time to learn about them and found them to be just as cool as a similar vintage Supra or early Z car. (Pre-ZX.) Now to find a nice unmolested one is a bit more difficult than it was in the early 90's! (Even though I was prejudiced against them in the day, I could still admit that the Dodge Conquest in the metallic blue looked really good. The color I'd want mine to be.)
