    Did you see the strike at 0:40 ???

      When we started using these spoons more and more I challenged all my guys to call out their strikes before swinging. To really focus on feeling every strike and to hook less and less “surprise” fish, (hookups because you went to pump the jig again and subsequently hooked a fish you never felt) It was pretty easy for those coming from Largemouth fishing like myself, but it is a legit difficult thing to master if you never worked plastic worms for green bass as a kid. Big Mike definitely felt that strike before the hookup. He’s come a long way for never jigging or green bass fishing before. Rich’s rod’s definitely help with the learning curve 😆. It’s a cool challenge to put on yourself.

    I'd like to add that its important to lift up slowly, then free spool it back down. If your jerk or jig flutter spoons hard/quick they will spin. If you raise them up slowly they will appear to swim and sway 6" one way and 6" the other way. This will also increase the bite coming up as it provides for a better presentation. Mike is dead right about the free fall down. Too tight of a drop and you wont get the correct presentation. Excellent video. Anyone following the advise of this video will increase their chances of catching more fish...

      That’s a great point brother. That’s again why the short soft rods are important. They won’t move the spoons too fast or far unless you REALLY swing. 👍👍👍👍👍. Thanks Vince!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

    Yea I tried this at block island last season and had no luck. Did have one follow to the boat when I was reeling up to leave. We were killing them trolling so I wanted to try this method. I was thinking the rip was just too much to keep my spoon in right spot. The scope of the line was way out. I’ll try again this season

    Doing this right now on lake lanier. Schooling fish. Biggest ones work best right now for some reason. trying to experiment with colors.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Рік тому +1

      Excellent! I have the most fun experimenting. In fact, once I get a perfect bait dialed in to catch tons of fish I pass it on to my crew and look for a different way to catch em. That’s really why you see me casting off the down stream side of the boat all the time. I usually won’t catch much doing that, but once I get a bait dialed in and catch a few I get the thrill of catching 10 fish on a proven bait. It’s the hunt for me brother 👍👍👍👍

      Actually Lake Lanier is covered up with guys jigging these spoons there! In fact, the first time I ever used them was on Lanier in 2013-2014 ish. I bet there are more guys using them there than on any other 2 lake’s combined. These were designed by a top Bass Masters Champion, Ben Parker to catch largemouths in the south. Awesome right?

    Hello Mike, great stuff. Couple of questions, do you need to work this off the bottom to be effective or can you do it in the middle of the water column? Also, do you have a vid that explains casting and retrieving spoons? Thanks so much, just got my first boat and getting it rigged for striper fishing with my wife. We are so damn excited to get it going and your videos are teaching me how. Tight lines!

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  11 місяців тому

      That’s awesome!!! Congratulations!! I actually don’t have a casting video up if you can believe that. Great idea!! I’ll definitely do that. No, you don’t need to hit bottom. we will jig up in the water column when we mark them suspended. Try to fish at least a few feet below the marks on the screen swinging high enough to get above them. Start lower and move up a little at a time. Pump a few times- crank a few times- pump and repeat. 👍👍

    Do you change the size of spoon depending on what body of water you're in? A lot of the lakes in southern VA around me have shad in them that are avg 4 inches or smaller, would it be better to use a smaller spoon to match the bait or still go with the big 8"-10" flutter spoon?

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Рік тому +2

      Good question. I still go with 8”. Lakes with Gizzard Shad also have adult Gizzards that can reach over 2lbs. That’s actually why Ben Parker designed these spoons. They are to imitate the large adult Shad. 👍👍

      I use 50lb braid main line. 20-30lb fluoro leader attached with an FG knot. If you scroll down my uploads you will see a few videos breaking this down further 👍👍 thanks brother!

      Them “Made in the USA” prices brother. They are punched from solid Brass. Retail on a 10/0 treble hook alone is $3-$4 EACH right now. I believe Nichols has the only USA made and assembled spoons. 👍👍👍
