When it doesn't budge on the hook set and doesn't even know its been hooked, you know it's a big fish. Very typical bite when using the big flutters. I find It's also fun just fishing them.
agreed. he did a very though job of explaining it. no drama just to the point, including the gear used. and it's always nice to see someone doing something different at Castaic.
I’ve been removing the treble hook & putting assist (stinger) hooks in it’s place. Haven’t noticed a decreased in hooks and it seems to prevent a lot of unnecessary bleeding of the fish.
Good to hear! Seems like you don't need assist hooks! Personally, my hookup ratio went from 50% to 95% with the assist hooks. Everyone's case is different!
When you are using your finder, do you find a point and wait for fish to come under it, or do you troll around until you see a group of fish on your finder and park it there?
Curious how do you like the Shimano slx dc? I’m seriously considering getting one to use with a cranking rod that I’ve had for 30 years. Will be using this setup for spooning stripers and hybrids.
Don’t try that yo-yo technique in lake havasu az … it’ll get snagged super fast , we don’t have the luxury of nice bottoms like most lakes , it’s a wash that was filled up and has tons of trees and huge rocks and weeds clusters to get hung up in , it’s horrible
Nice fish. Thanks again for your help with showing how to catch Stripe bass.. Was thinking about getting a newl trolling motor what kind is that on your boat.??.
@@joel1964. The ultrex is cable steered so much more responsive. Ulterra is electric steered less responsive but shaft can be long for Deep V boats and it also has auto deploy. I press a button and it deploys by itself!
Another great video JOE!! man you're awesome. Hey on an off topic, you think it'll be crazy busy this Saturday at Castaic with the Free fish day? was thinking about going but didn't want to be crazy busy with them recreational tow people.
Thank you Larry! Yea I wanted to go too but probably not going to go. Yes. Its going to be crazy all weekend especially Saturday. Hot temps, Pyramid lake is closed and Castaic takes Pyramid tags now so all the Pyramid boaters will be at Castaic, Labor day Crowd, Weekend Crowd, Free Fishing day crowd, lake is half the size, you can imagine.
@@JoeShowFishing Been itching to try the Fly hooks I got from you a week ago! School starting and of all the luck a crazy weekend and pyramid closing :( They reopen on 17th! Not sure I can wait that long. Will follow your lead and try to get a day off and go without the kids ;)
I really enjoy your informational videos. You are so generous with your knowledge and I can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned from this video. One question Joe. Is this a recent video summertime?
@@JoeShowFishing Thanks for your reply Joe. Going to purchase a hi speed reel and some spoons and head to Castaic. Got a weekend planned the third week of October at Castaic. Is the early fall a good time for spooning? Or would it be better to strip flies on leadcore that time of year.
Fished there yesterday. I was fishing mostly plastics and caught 10 LMB but my buddy threw the Magnum spoon all day and got 5. But his 5th one was easily over 10#.. Biggest LMB I've seen come out of that lake (my personal best is 7# on a Senko). Definitely gonna pick up a couple of those spoons and target the stripers. Looks like you're fishing the Shattered Glass color. Is that the go-to, or does color not make that much of a difference?
Wow. That's huge! Props to your buddy! The magnum spoon definitely attracts big bites and is going continue to be a pattern throughout hte fall. I don't have go-to colors for spoons. I think with a lure moving that fast, they will notice the shine and flash of the spoons which all colors have. It moves too fast for them to actually see colors in details. So I just end up using any colors I have on me or that are leftover.
Every fish you bring up with that fast retrieve reel is killing even the ones you release that are short or wrong species .from them being brought up to fast when fishing the deep .smh
I just ordered 2 of these in 2.5 Oz 6" and got out the tape measure and found they sent 8" spoons package said 6" lol
Nicely done pal. True Pro catching striper
Thanks broo!!!!
Good job Joe!! thx for sharing!!

Would you recomend a kastmaster to do the same technique?
Yep! Kastmasters can work!
Nice job out there man! Some biggins👏👏🤙👊

Can you use them for trolling?
Good stuff bro.
Irod Bama rod is perfect for the 5-8" spoons! Good stuff brotha

Hi Joe should stinger hooks go on shiny side or painted on the flutter spoon?
Shiny side! Painted side leave open!

What Fishing line are you using in the video
I think I was just using big game mono as leader! Dont remember the braid!

What days do you fish? Nice video
Thanks! I fish random days. Sometimes weekdays sometimes Saturdays depending on my schedule!

Excellent job Joe!!! Learning how to use the spoon is a must. Fun way to fish and deadly in the late fall to winter season.
