  • The Russian is a common control position with numerous offensive systems. Here I show how to escape the Russian back to an advantageous underhook position where we can run our own offense

    Good stuff! The best part of a Russian 2-on-1 is that no one seems to know how to defend it. As someone who does a lot of stuff off of a Russian, this should work really well.

      They most often post on the head and then I do what I show in #22

    Sounds like someone was able to afford a microphone thanks to that sweet sweet Danaher video ad rev 🤣
    I think I learned this defense from a Cary Kolat video and it works so well,especially in BJJ since people never keep good head position off the russian, they usually pull their head away. I used to do the hand post because it's all I had ever seen anyone do, but now that I do this even against a bigger stronger guy I'm not afraid anymore. In fact, I don't even mind people taking it because I know I can get the undertook and inside head position back easily and now I own the guy.

      Lol! No money from this channel yet. We need 4,000hrs and are not even halfway there. That was out of my own pocket. I am happy with the microphone, except that there’s a few place (subsequent videos I recorded but haven’t edited) where it glitched. Overall, it’s pretty great! It’s definitely very empowering when you learn that there’s an answer from every position. You can go to offense and defense with authority.

      It certainly is. This is my coach, Andy Seras in the 1988 Olympic Greco trials. He went on to represent the USA in the Olympics that year. Notice how he practices what he preaches. Always working for the underhook. Because that position is gold. Next I’ll show you how to get out of it!

    This was great! What is your favorite moves when you have a underhook coach? Also what is your favorite way of getting to a bodylock?

    • @josephbreza-grappling9459
      @josephbreza-grappling9459  Рік тому +1

      I actually will be showing entries to the bodylock soon. I like to do it off the underhook, because people always try to get tough when you have positional advantage with the underhook and inside thigh position-they just make it worse when they try to get tough, because they stand up straight and hand it to me. I have some simple ways I am going to show how to get to the underhook with Greco. Works well in BJk, because people stand upright.
      I also loved to shoot the high crotch off the underhook. I will show that in another video. It’s extremely effective and different than what people are used to seeing

    Hey Joe! Have you seen Brandon Reed's Dominate the Hand Fight instructional? Thinking about getting it. I have Steve Mocco's, and I found that to be helpful. Not sure how much they overlap.
    I want to master the basics! Appreciate you always getting me on the right track for wrestling for BJJ.

      @josephbreza-grappling9459  Рік тому +1

      I haven’t watched his instructional, but I don’t have to-I already know it’s legit. He is a great wrestler. He is incredibly successful in competition and he is using a very fundamental system to do it.
      I have seen enough of him showing technique to know he is a great instructor and has a nice fundamentals that are not going to get you into trouble. You have to be aware of that. There’s so many people who show wrestling moves that they wouldn’t use themselves or couldn’t pull off even if they tried (against anyone legit). As far as I am concerned, that’s ridiculous.
      Reed is definitely legit. I definitely think you would benefit from his instruction

I definitely don’t want for it to be a job or else it will lose its luster. But I think it would/could be useful at some point. Thanks, this is super helpful!
    I had a question about the sagging headlock. I've been trying to add it in, but I find that I'm not getting the right angle, and I'm still getting taken down. I think the problem is that they are getting their hips too far in, so I'm not breaking the posture properly. What are you thinking about in terms of hip separation and weight distribution during the move? Should I whizzer and circle away from them to create more space before attempting the move? In your video you mentioned it works after they start to turn the corner, but I feel like they are getting to a point of no return of being too far behind me.

    • @josephbreza-grappling9459
      @josephbreza-grappling9459  Рік тому +2

      Get mean with it and make sure you’ve got that far elbow. For me, it works best when their head is low. Controlling that far arm, pulling it across my body as I sag my hips. If you’re tall, use Uchi mata with the overhook

    • @josephbreza-grappling9459
      @josephbreza-grappling9459  Рік тому +1

      Also, keep the pressure on that whizzer. It’s the only thing that’s keeping them from getting behind you
