A little post video context.. Spent a whole day messing with the core SS, pretty frustrating actually.. Was trying to get my 3D arrows to work out of it that were 400 spine 3DHV's (same arrows in video) moral of the story, the arrows were underspined and wouldn't tune.. It led to my cam's being pushed all the way to one side, and really changed the feel of the bow.. Now I went back to my hunting arrows, re-tuned the bow, flipped the cams to smooth draw, and it feels like a shooter again. That said, it still lost today's shoot off and the Darton and Bear punch way above their weight class. I need to figure out which bow is going to travel with me to first TAC of the year...
I totally understand that, nothing wrong with trying to figure out the optimal setup. Sometimes, it just doesn't work out the way we plan, until we get some real world tests in. I appreciate your passion and commitment to the archery community and I love how your video are just plain fun! I always look forward to another video. Thanks for sharing!
Your videos are awesome, I started watching you first then MFJJ and third Dan, love all three of you guys. I’m learning every day, especially when watching you shoot arrows thanks in advance 🙏🏽. I’m the newbie that just started shooting and totally love it. Thanks for getting me hooked on shooting Tim really I appreciate it.🙏🏽
I’ve been on the fence about picking up an Alaskan XT as a back up to my Era. Killed my first deer with a Bear bow, maybe time to go back to my roots?🤷♂️
You,MFJJ, Dan and the rest of the crew on that side of the states have helped me so much through my archery journey. You have produced the most educational, honest and humble videos. You guys are my go to content to consume outside the normal hunting podcasts. I’ve always been a bow hunter but now I truly feel like I’m becoming an archer. ABT 💪🏻
Recently ordered my first flagship bow ever. Still have my old midrange bow as well. I’ve only ever shot midrange bows and done quite well with them. Reps reps reps and a good setup. I’d love to see either Darton or Bear win out in this solely because they are a midrange model. Thanks for an honest channel Tim!
I shot my club's winter 3D shoot with my Bear Whitetail Maxx, Alaskan XT, Bowtechs RPM 360 and Prodigy. I was pleasantly surprised when my Alaskan XT scored the highest, the Whitetail Maxx came in 2nd, and the Prodigy and RPM 360 came in 3rd and 4th, respectively. You should shoot the Alaskan XT at TAC.
For your 3D shoot off to shoot off, I’d be interested to see you shoot the whole course with one bow without swapping. Then swap and do the same with the others. That way you’re building consistency throughout the whole course and shooting your best score possible with each bow.
For the bubble drifting back and forth, I have had the same issue. It's two things. One the way your hand sits on the grip of the bow each bow has a slight change in pitch and angle even though it's so small you can't see it, it does change how your hand sits in the grip which changes how your hand torques the bow. The second is the back wall. If you pull more into the back wall, both the bubble and pin will drastically slow down and sit still for the shot
I think the reason the darton is so forgiving is the combination of brace height and zero reflex in the riser. Only thing to watch out for is the limbs on the darton. I’ve seen a few guys with limbs splintering. Darton is a stand up company and I’m sure warranty will cover the problem I hope they find the issue like a bad batch of limbs and it doesn’t turn into a huge limb issue. That said the consequence is still top two on my list for my son.
Hey Tim in my opinion you shoot the bears 🐻 better than the other two bow and when you didn't make a good shoot seams to hold better for you I seriously think you should take the bear bow to tac. Keep hammer 🔨
One thing I tried from Paige P is adjust your first axis bubble to your natural hold. It’s way more comfortable and you put less torque into system then weighting up your bow.
Just watched the video. Love the archery content! If you take the core ss out of performance then set your drawstop at your drawlength and set your modules 1/2" longer. You'll up the speed and holding weight without the hump. I think you like it a lot!
In an attempt to limit wind drift (gusts), wouldn’t it be better to rubber band groups and measure vertical and horizontal deviation? I like comparisons because today’s models are all upgrades to what I started with and information is key deciding purchase factors.
Ive been struggling hard to get my bow to like an Easton Axis 4mm. I went down to 340 spine to get them light and fast. Cut them as short as possible but still ran into inconsistent tears. Ran in circles for a week with it thinking it was tuned. Long story short I made up some 300 spine X Impacts today and the bow loves them. Got two short weeks to get them dialed. Coming down to the wire!
Hey Tim: As long as the bow is tuned and sighted as long as you use the same draw length that matches your body structure.. As in your own draw length, you will see you have pretty much the same results out of each one you shoot.
Hey Tim just a little friendly advice,I’m guessing you’re going for max speed. For TAC .In my experience l can’t get a 400 spine arrow cut at 27.5 with a 100 grn tip to go much faster than 290 FPS and bullet thru paper . The tune just seems to come apart as far as accuracy is concerned.A 340 spine can take a lot more juice from A bow cranked up past 64 lbs . My advice for build that can handle more modern cam speed and and still tune out with your Bowtech is this. 6.5 Easton 340 @28” 3 fletch blazers and a115 grn tip that build will hit the scale at approximately 415 grns it will take all the speed you can give it and the tune won’t come apart
Curious, if shooting the 3dhv out of the bowtech on smooth mod setting should tune better and be faster then hunting arrows. But they might still be to weak. Good videos, keep it up.
I think the Darton doesn’t have the reflex the others have so it’s not torque as easily. MFJJ I think would say the same. I’m digging the Darton. I like your work. It’s just honest reviews and just shooting with the guys. It’s not forced trying to sell something.
Would be interesting to change over to the comfort mode on the BT, then do a re-shoot. With most of your low shots, you are dropping the bow at release. Not uncommon, especially for me, unfortunately. Thanks for the fun video. Hope you make the 100k soon!
Looks like the Bowtech might get benched. I am surprised, seems like the Bowtech would smoke the other two. The Bowtech groups were more spread out too. The 3d course shoot off will be interesting. Great video!
I've also played with my bars to try and help my bubble... Weirdly enough, a sight with vertical wire helped me a ton. Everyone's different tho, just adding my two pennies.
If you look at the video, every time you hit low it was predictable, because your sight was just under the top line of the white garden tent in the background. When you hit in the middle it was just above it. Wondering if your peep picture has anything to do with it.
I’d run that Bowtech in the comfort setting next round. That will at least put your draw cycles more apples to apples for comparison sake. 🤷🏻♂️ Another killer vid.
Tim your alignments a little off on your release side, shows mostly on the Bowtech. Your right elbow is a little above the arrow. Have to feel out the fix, little more loop length or just work on keeping that elbow in place and rotating your hand/forearm up. George Ryals has a video on this, 2023 Vegas presentation.
Ive read that people are liking the Core SR in comfort over the SS in Performance. it is said that the bow is a lot more stable and easier to hold steady. Have you had the opportunity to test this?
A more expensive bow does NOT make you a better archer. I shoot a bear legit as I'm only a couple years in to archery and I regularly out shoot my buddies who have mathews and hoyt flagship bows. The legit is far more forgiving than their bows. Inside 60 yds I'll outshoot them all day. Theirs tend to standout more in the longer ranges for sure though
I feel like sight my play a role here as the results were pretty close. Maybe if You do 3D but with same sight that You want to use on TAC then You get variation limited to the bow only?
Question different topic- Would you do a yt vid showing how cock vane orientation (up, down, left, right) affects arrow flight and feathers versus plastic pro and con? My guess is minimal variation but I don’t have super slo mo capability. Love your content and all things bow and arrow!
Noticed on most of your shots the video is cut while at full draw, just wondering how long you’re staying anchored in before your shot actually breaks. I know the longer I’m at full draw the more pin movement I get and the worst my shot usually is. Keep up the good work.
I switched from mathews a couple years ago an haven't looked back since!. My scores an confidence went up. You caint go wrong with an alaskan xt or even a couple yr old Refine or redemption
I have a Bowtech CP 30 it’s a solid shooter but my Bear Alaskan is no slouch either. The Alaskan can do 90% of what the CP 30 does for only 40% of the cost. Two good platforms made in the USA it’s good to have competition in manufacturing to get Joe Average shooting and enjoying this great sport!
Good stuff. Pretty good with all 3. IMO you could do a bit better with any/all 3 on any given day. That is based on what I have seen of your marksmanship here on vids. I put the Bear paw grip on my Alaskan XT this morning at the shop. It gives a"fuller" purchase and seems more stable to me. I am a bigger build and wear L to XL glove so not sure it is good for for everyone. But my son(16) put one on his Legit also and is thrilled. You might give that some thought. Thank you.
I love how thin the grip is on the Legit. I would go as far to say that it feels better than the BeeReal grip on my V3x. The Matthews grip was really chunky and rounded.
@@kb198219k Yes sir we like it as well but after shooting the BearPaw we were surprised that we preferred it over the thin riser grip. But my son and I both prefer the little extra whatever that it offers. Thank you and happy hunting.

I thoroughly enjoy videos, Thank You. Why not try shooting the same arrows out of all (3) bows instead of shooting your 3D arrows out of the Bowtech? Would be a more accurate comparison - changing arrows hinders the results in my opinion. Please redo this with the Bowtech in comfort setting and use the same arrows for all the bows and show us the results. Thanks.

In my opinion you anchor a little too low and far back on your face. Maybe a little shorter draw length would help. Might have to lean your nose into the string especially on the shorter bows instead of drawing the bow so far back.
I like your videos so much I unsubscribed so I could resubscribe. 🤣🤣 Getting past the jokes I do like you comparing like you do. Maybe throw out the best and worst arrow to get a better average? Il really like the bipod on jour Bowtech ! What brand is it ?
hoyt go stix 2.0
Hey dude. What sight are you rocking there on the darton?
Great video! What bipod is that you are running on the Bowtech?
Think it's hoyt go sticks 2.0 I saw a video of them setting it up.
I really enjoyed the video, and your thoughts on each bow. Any plans to re-shoot the Bowtech with your hunting arrows?
When you are doing these comparisons. What distance do you usually shoot at?
Curious, if shooting the 3dhv out of the bowtech on smooth mod setting should tune better and be faster then hunting arrows. But they might still be to weak. Good videos, keep it up.
This is fun to watch
How are the strings on the darton

My 50lb realm-x shooting 400 grain arrows are on the edge of being under spine especially if I go to a 125 head. Next arrow will be 340/350’s
anything between 55 and 60 pounds. 400 spine should be perfect spine. 340 would be way too stiff imo.
