When you did the ‘wind gust’ test, it seemed like you exerted more force on the PSE than you did the Matthew’s. You pushed/pulled it harder for a longer duration.
It really doesn't matter how hard you push or pull the bow, it's really at what point you release the bow and how stable it is to rebalance from that point. Physics is going to prove that the longer riser is going to be easier to balance... it's like a tight roper, they use a very long pole to help stabilize and balance as opposed to a short stick.
I would love to see a video like this with the longer version bows! While not the focus of this video the speeds generated at 27” draw and 60 would be interesting. Good process, great content!

Nice job, and since Keith’s #2 priority was Accessories, did anyone film his reaction at the cash register once he saw the cost of the Mathews stabilizers and quiver system? It’s almost like paying for another bow..😢
I won’t call it a “Failure” by PSE this year but I think they missed the mark just a little bit. It’s great that they are including more in-line options for accesories and the fact that they didn’t want to put out essentially the same bow as last year. (Cough cough Mathew’s from 2017-2022) but I thought we all learned our lesson on short axle to axle/riser lengths a few years ago during the RX4 + V3 days (I’ve owned both so I can judge). I think a lot of people will get turned away from the PSE Mach 30 because of that shorter riser and stability. Maybe white tail hunters will really like it for easy maneuvering??… I have a PSE Mach 34 and it’s very light, balanced and stable. I barely add any stabilizers to get myself to hold on target well. I’m short. 5’7” . (Not a Dan 5.7 but a truthful 5’7”) 27.5” draw, 80lbs, and I would still truthfully prefer the 34” ATA than to go shorter. They should’ve made it a 32 and I think people would’ve swarmed to it… well there’s always next year.
i’m a whitetail hunter with a 33 ata bow and it is definitely a disadvantage for maneuvering in a blind or stand. in a saddle it’s not a big deal, the shorter bows are an advantage taking those surprise shots at 10-25 yards
People have put too much into riser length, ATA length. A bows shoot ability has much more that does into it than that. I shoot short bows really well and prefer the maneuvering of a 30” or under bow.
Isn’t the hoyt the same ata? And the Mathews is even shorter.. 😂 the American made Pse has definitely stepped up its game this year. A far cry from the og carbon air that felt like a shotgun going off. They all make great bows though. Out of these 4, I’d likely go with the lift because of price but if I had the funds I’d likely go with one of the carbons
Thank you. Good timing for me. I'm buying a bow this year and haven't bought one in 20 years. I'm obviously starting from scratch since their are not many similarities anymore to what I have.

On my first hunt I scored a 338 lb. Boar at 40 yards and when the arrow landed, the boar literally fell over dead. I was always a rifle hunter and wanted to see what all the hype I was hearing from buddies that bow hunted were talking about. Now I know! Well I’m a lot older (62) and way more beat up but I’m wanting to get back at it again with a bow and wanted to know if I can still use the PSE since it was fast in its day or is there a better system for me available?

I'm dying to try again with a better quality bow but don't have the money to experiment the way I'd like. Ty very much for the video
Getting both ends of the spectrum would be good to see. I’d also be interested to see how Keith compares to someone else on the grips, draw cycle and back wall at those longer draw lengths
I love PSE carbons and just sold a Levitate with E2 cams, and still have a Mach 34, and I agree with you. Watching him pull that, I was surprised he liked the draw cycle of it.
The SAS is great because of the mathews peep twist issues. APA been doing it for years..but you still have no way to micro tune your timing without buying string spacers....love the SAS and the tripod is the greatest must have accessory
to be completely honest i am a little bias to mathews simply for the fact that all the shops around me are mathews shops, so for me it's about if something happens where can i get parts/service. but all in all i think bows are a lot like new tucks these days. They are all good it's about personal feel. That being said, you can't argue the fact that mathews just gets it with features and accessories. they aren't the fastest and until this year with the lift even in the game on the weight side (no carbon option), but they get it with extras. I am looking forward to seeing the set up video great job as always!
I'm getting ready to buy a new one with a longer riser. Shot the elite, lift, phase 4, but not the core SR yet. I'm in Utah. I'll volunteer for the video.
You shook the crap out of the pse! HARDER, longer. FASTER, MORE VIOLENT. THEN Gave the mathews a handshake. NOT A FAIR TEST? Not fair at all on that test. Otherwise Awesome review/comparison and breakdown.!
I was very shocked to see that he said the Hoyt was by far the worst draw cycle. I am a Matthews guy and it was the absolute smoothest draw cycle. I think I have ever felt coming out of the new Hoyts.
Yea, I've had a traverse, v3 31, vertix, v3x 29, and now only have an rx7, and rx8, and two athens vistas. I gave the v3 31 to my stepson, the draw cycle at least to me personally on the hoyts, and athens are so smooth and linear. They're both just as quiet if not quieter too, although I think a lot of that is how a person sets a bow up.
This is the one thing Josh Jones tried to drive home, the customer was at the top of the draw length range for the shorter module which will definitely have the harshest draw for the whole cam's draw range. The customer didn't want to hear it though.
I'm a target archer and have exclusively shot Hoyts for years, tried them all, always went back to Hoyt because for me, they are the best for my shot style and my demands. However, I think Mathews makes and has made the best hunting bows for several years now.
You’d like the Mathew’s even more if you lowered the weight to equal the same performance of the PSE. I’ve found you can more comfortably shoot less weight with a lighter arrow. And Mathew’s bows shoot so butter smooth at 53# and spine a light arrow with 85 grain point.
You deserve an award for being he content you are putting out! Excellent 👏 also I felt the same way with the Hoyt alpha x I don’t know what they did but that draw cycle is garbage.
That is shocking to hear about the draw cycle, last years Hoyt's have amazing draw cycles. I have a 30" Ventum Pro, so smooth, that's the reason it won me over... I'm gonna have to go to the shop and draw one back.
I know everybody loves the draw cycle on the Hoyt but that's probably because they shoot Hoyt. I shot both and preferred the LIFT 33 over the Alpha X 33. The LIFT had a more consistence, predictable pull all the way through and the Hoyt had more of a dump into the back wall. Even though I was a previous owner of a Hoyt I took the LIFT 33 home.
It is so obvious with due all respect, this man was pre determined on Mathews. Since he owned PSE and looking for an upgrade. They are all very good bows. It is all about what your preference is. Very good video.
The big name bows get all the love, but are they the best today? Are there lesser know companies making great or even better bows than the big name boys.
This is funny I went and shot today wanting to get the mathews lift. I thought the elite era was better then I compared the rx8 to elite era ended up picking the rx8. To me the draw and feel was hands down better then mathews. I've been a bowtech guy for years.
I know this guy didn't want one but be nice to see the Prime Ronan, who is the best outlet to get last year's unsold bows? I'd really like to keep the bare bow under 1000?
I picked up a couple Mathews Phase 4's from Scheels deeply discounted. The 29 was $899 and the 33 was $999. Not sure if they still have them, if you are closed to a Scheels you might want to check them out.
All the manufacturers make excellent bows, I have personally only ever gone with PSE, but that Mathews looks to be a great value. It's kind of shocking when you go i with pre-conceived biases and you get them flipped once you test. Man, 2k for a bow, when did we get to this point. I paid under 1k for my last bow and it's only been 6 or 7 years :(
@keithcheever8186 yea, I've had a Traverse, vertix, v3 31, v3x 29, hoyts too, I've always liked the grip, and draw cycle of a hoyt over mathews. All personal preference, but I like my rx7 enough to keep it, and my rx8 showed up today.
Great test but if you're comparing the weight/balance of PSE/Mathews you should be comparing as tested.....and not like "the PSE would be lighter if we took that and that off." Just a thought on the testing.
Forgot tune ability for Mathews being able to work on your bow stay afield system without a press also would cap the winner I think, both awesome bows for sure, how much to come and go through the same process for me from Indiana lol
Do you have a breakdown for draw length to bow length axel-to-axel? I am 5'9" and have about a 28.5 draw length and shoot a 34 axel-to-axel bow, should I be shooting a 29.5?
You started selling the Lift hard at the end and he started moving that direction. I wonder what would of happened if you just stayed quiet and let him shoot

Not a short axle fan. But let's see what this is all about ? He's leaning Mathews early. I shot the Mathews and I never felt a more top heavy bow in my life. Hoyt IMHO blew it out of the water. I can't believe he said the Mathews was the best balanced ? GEEEEEEEZ. Bow has an anchor on the top that makes it want to just drop with speed forwards. 27.5 draw here and I would vote for a longer axle review, 32 axle and above,I guess 35 ? For hunting. I think Darton has a 35 ? Most are 33-34. Still can't believe he said the Mathews was the best balanced bow. I been shooting compound bows since compound bows were made. I never felt a more top heavy bow in my life than that Mathews. Mathews did a wonderful job with the cam and the riser for sure. But dayummmmm that things is so top heavy. Hold it out in front and let it do what it wants to do. It falls forwards 500 FPS lol. Nice bow and I assume weight can fix that.
Anyone else notice he is shooting with a Stan C......WITH A WRIST STRAP ATTACHED?!?! I bet the new accessory to swap out is the 3 and 4 finger attachment WITH a lanyard loop area on the back. My guess is he forgot his release and that's MFJJ's early release prototype 😉 I will say he executes the Stan C well though BUT he is way "too deep" into the release with his grip.
The weight has nothing to do with the pull… and the Pse is lighter with a better draw cycle. The Mathews is definitely the best value considering it’s a $700 difference which is insane to me. I’d also choose the Mathews
Mathews may shoot nice, but they're the most difficult bow in the world to tune. That top hat system they have is just outright archaic. I think Native Americans had more modernized tuning on their stick bows.
It was a pretty flawed test. The PSE was faster than the Lift and he kept saying how torquey the PSE would be because of the weight yet he kept saying how with the lower stab it was the same weight as the Lift 😂
@@gordonneverdiesyou COULD argue that starting with an older bow and getting good with a ‘p.o.s.’ will mean that they are better than someone who starts with a new bow and just gets good with that.

The Lift has the worst draw cycle of them all this year. No doubt the Hoyt is butter.
I'm a target archer and have exclusively shot Hoyts for years, tried them all, always went back to Hoyt because for me, they are the best for my shot style and my demands.
However, I think Mathews makes and has made the best hunting bows for several years now.
Great video! Please do another longer axel to axel video and include the ethos
Great video. I really like your process .
You’d like the Mathew’s even more if you lowered the weight to equal the same performance of the PSE. I’ve found you can more comfortably shoot less weight with a lighter arrow. And Mathew’s bows shoot so butter smooth at 53# and spine a light arrow with 85 grain point.
Guys, great job. Good info. I'm in the market!
there's more riser on the mathews to catch wind, while I do agree generally the longer riser is more stable, pick a better argument.
Not a short axle guy.. great video though.
Evo Evl 34 for life.
@@chuckadams9842 I used to shoot nothing but Hoyt and the draw cycle was the main reason. But this new one is super weird and not very good.
He already owned a hoyt. Thats why he threw it away with the bowtech.
Hoyt. He owned a Hoyt.
and he was aiming towards the bow tech going into the test…
Would love to see the longer ata vid that’d be great. As a taller guy myself shorter bows aren’t as fun lol
Let me guess mathews wins. Great video guys. Give us a break they are not that much better than a Darton, bear, bow tech whatever
Your black mouth cur is beautiful. Love the way (s)he looks at you while you're talking. There's lots of love there. I have a BMC and he's fantastic!
I paid under 1k for my last bow and it's only been 6 or 7 years :(
This guy must b on some good stuff! Hard pulling hoyt 😂 can’t even finish watching this ! Maybe having short Rex arms makes the draw different
I agree just shot the Mathew and the hoyt and hoyt wins hands down for smooth draw cycle but thats me oh and I bought it
@keithcheever8186 yea, I've had a Traverse, vertix, v3 31, v3x 29, hoyts too, I've always liked the grip, and draw cycle of a hoyt over mathews. All personal preference, but I like my rx7 enough to keep it, and my rx8 showed up today.
Great test but if you're comparing the weight/balance of PSE/Mathews you should be comparing as tested.....and not like "the PSE would be lighter if we took that and that off."
Just a thought on the testing.
Forgot tune ability for Mathews being able to work on your bow stay afield system without a press also would cap the winner I think, both awesome bows for sure, how much to come and go through the same process for me from Indiana lol
You can’t use their top hat tune system with the stay a field
Archery is so cool. It's ancient but we still bow bias 😁. I still see the Japanese arguing with the Mongols
The Lift is absolute money. Not a bad choice in the bunch, but it’s pretty obvious who has the leg up in the industry.
Do you have a breakdown for draw length to bow length axel-to-axel? I am 5'9" and have about a 28.5 draw length and shoot a 34 axel-to-axel bow, should I be shooting a 29.5?
Man I wish he did a speed test, thanks my draw length lol. Great testing though
I would love to see a long ata bow!
I'm not sure why peripherals like the rest legs, quivers etc being made by the bow manufacturer is such a big part of the decision.
I believe Matthew listens to the their customers and Bow shop
What are the bow legs on the PSE?
How can anyone hate on a Mathews?? Mathews has been top of the game for a very long time!
So if you had to compare these bows to, say, a 2008 stinger NI... What would you tell someone?
You started selling the Lift hard at the end and he started moving that direction. I wonder what would of happened if you just stayed quiet and let him shoot
"You get used to the draw force curve" 🤣🤣
Great vid mate..i just unboxed another bear bow product..not happy.gas bow strings r shit..there servings are, anyway..from australia..abbey archery is a great company..nothing worse than unboxing a new bow and straight away u notice the serving is coming apart.and i havnt even shot it..
I would love to see a 29 inch old built of this style.
Great video!
All these bows and not a giveaway in sight
Review the new Bear Alaskan XT. Best mid tier bow out this year they say
What is his draw length JJ? Sorry if i missef this earlier on in the video.
27.5" (I am the guy from the vid)
@@jkeithhowe What release and wrist strap are you using
Wish Mathew’s got rid of the dump and add limb stops.
My boy made his mind up before he got there lol
Can you do one on the new APA Black Mamba.
Do the long axel version please!
The Matthews feels harder to pull because it’s lighter, Love that freaking bow, love the review. Can’t wait for the bow build 🤙🏻🤙🏻
What ever happened with that give away you were going to do?
Man.. this video was soo sponsored my Mathews it made me order one.. LOL
First thing was said was tune ability. Now that is 3rd on the list. But accessories are number 1.
I’m not brand loyal but ?????
No Elite?
They don’t make a new 30”ish bow for 2024.
I think you push Mathew. pse was better in 2 of the 3 most important Items
The old tried and true random shake of the bow to determine stability... Slight pull on the Matthews, hard shove on the PSE...
INCREASE THE POUNDAGE ON THE PSE AND LET HIM COMPARE AGAIN.
Longer axis please!
Hey it’s his bow stop hating!!!
In the market for a new bow?? He already has the best bow on the market! Rx7 all day
The PSE was actually faster than the Mathews.
That’s what I was thinking. All the videos I’ve watched support this
@@davidflippo4860 MFJJs own numbers w/ 350/70/30 show Mach 30 @ 334, Mathews LIFT 29.5 @ 333 and Alpha X/RX8 @ 335. His chrono, his numbers.
It was a pretty flawed test. The PSE was faster than the Lift and he kept saying how torquey the PSE would be because of the weight yet he kept saying how with the lower stab it was the same weight as the Lift 😂
@@PAKraigand the PSE was within 4 fps of listed IBO unlike the Lift
On top of this comment section speaking facts, the Mach 34, levitate, and omen are still the best bows on the market, pretty hard to argue.
_As someone who is just getting into archery, this was suuuuuuuper helpful!_
*_Thank You!_*
If you are JUST getting I to archery...NONE of these bows should be in your wheelhouse.
Why is that? Buy once cry once?Right? Im new to archery as well@@bearhug72
@@bearhug72 Why? If he has the money why not buy a superior bow?
@@gordonneverdiesyou COULD argue that starting with an older bow and getting good with a ‘p.o.s.’ will mean that they are better than someone who starts with a new bow and just gets good with that.
@@bearhug72 I disagree. If shooting these bows make the experience more enjoyable which means he wants to shoot more often, then these can absolutely be "in his wheelhouse".
