    I was lucky enough to meet Konrad and Lisa while climbing at Oliana and they gave us a tour of their really innovative van conversion.
    The craftsmanship and attention to detail were really impressive. It's amazing that they've managed to fit a large bed and a dining area into the van without having to go for an extra long wheel base. (The van is a Renault Master LWB HighTop)
    The bed extends with a slider, as does the seats and there are a few other cool features. I am sure there are a few ideas here that you could use for your own van conversion in the future!
    I hope you enjoyed this tour, don't forget to help us out by liking and subscribing :)

    Regular van folks would use an eyelet to hold the table up.
    Climber van folks use a carabineer and a 30 kN anchor hanger :)

    That’s a cracking design and use of space. My only concern would be the steel support beams for van shell were not insulated so cold could transfer from van shell to warm interior then produce condensation. A fantastic van conversion though. Many ideas to pinch👍😂

    • @edgarbleikur1929
      @edgarbleikur1929 5 років тому +1

      I use a similar strap set up. This is practical for many reasons. A support or leg is not practical for many reasons. (A support/leg would need to be longer than the table itself. If the van is on any angle the support/leg is useless etc etc). Easy. Lightweight. I too like this idea for accessing the front. I've kept my metal bulk head and as yet not devised a way (many ideas) to access through... but this has given me some inspiration...

    This actually gave me a very good idea to copy for my layout, the kitchen there it's great to use that space that I had otherwise left almost empty but without purpose. Now I can have more space in the middle, for mini living room and have a bigger bed than I was planning for.
    Plus I really like it more than the average kitchen on the sides.
    Finally a good inspiration!
    Plus I love the top furnitures, seem more reliable than the bigger ones. I had terrible experiences with my former van (that I didn't build) and now I am terrified that furniture would just fall off at the first bump while driving.

    I love how they left some of the interior van frame exposed, the holes in it become subtle design elements, picking up the holes he used in some of the wood for ventilation as a theme. It reminds me of some of the modern buildings I have toured, they expose the ceiling structure and wall structure, adding texture and interest. Exposing these interior frame elements also lets your walls be as thin as possible, moving the effective wall outward, as opposed to people who cover the frame with boards, then add another layer of covering, closing down the space losing the openness. It also gives you access to places to hang stuff later on, as you live in it. One of many little elements that show the care and experience and genius of the builders!

    • @mattis6437
      @mattis6437 5 років тому +4

      But it's not insulated, which is a big mistake if you ever visit somewhere that doesn't have +15/20 c in the night. Also the heating gets much harder. Their "design element" of exposing is just stupidity here.

    Ingenious details and beautifully crafted but I wondered why the 'hanging' table did not use an undermounted swing out, wooden and routered out triangular brace as this would have allowed more space around the table minus the strap ... maybe knee room ? Perhaps move the table a couple of centimetres over, thete looks to be room - as when you are eating/working you won't be cooking - then knee room is not an issue. I guess if they had used wire to minimise the intrusion instead of the bulky material strap it could be hazardous as it would be almost invisible. The strap seems so big and in the way though! Also noticed the lack of insulation/cover along the van struts (original manufacture metal 'studs' with holes in it) and back doors. R-value would drop due to thermal loss ?? Has this been a problem or was this a part of their design - perhaps to increase the footprint of the interior of the van ? Most conversions I have seen stuff/spray insulation into the voids and cover these. I am curious why these were left exposed. The standard of construction is so great and everything is considered otherwise ... so presumed they had a reason ?! What was the length /wheel base of the van please. I love the colourful straps used for her 'library'. Really nice design - looks like a piece of art.

    This is a great build. I have a question, what is the insolation in the walls and roof? Because I see that the original metal frame is still visible. Is it the Renaud factory insolation or did they made it? I wish they left their IG or YT

    Lovely conversion. Loads of storage space, I like that 👍
    What do they do about showering though? I didn’t hear anything mentioned. I’ve seen a couple of conversions with built in showers and toilets which, although great for comfort, seems to take up loads of space. What’s the alternative though?

    Actually, would be awesome to know where they got that pump for the sink. I am trying to find one but I don't find mechanical ones, only electrical, which I also would not want.

    Nicely done. Did they insulate? What about thermal bridging from those exposed metal ribs? I guess it’s a trade off for more space.

    Very nice people and. This van is not not luxurious but functional. My regrets no toilet and no bathroom and impossible for a full timer I think..
