The name "Dark Eldar" makes sense in a way due to Commoragh receiving little to no natural light. So since they're *Eldar* that live in the *Dark,* it makes perfect sense for them to be called the "Dark Eldar".

Eldar reproduction? Well Eldar pick a focus and stick to it until they master EVERY aspect of it. So Eldar that choose the path of reproduction are keept in love hotels at the edge of the craftworlds until they are absolutely done mastering breeding. The other Eldar don't like to talk about it...
alotosius actually they do this as a side project, it's good to remember most of the paths lead to the eldar becoming an emotionally unattached psychopath. The vast majority of craftworld eldar would make horrible parents and they know this.
i all ways saw the eldar's state of not haveing a large population as self imposed due to lck of sole stones, but the path of the parent must be a common if stricktly controlled path for A the craftworlds to be 100 times larger then they were 10000 years ago despited endless wars between then and now. ie the craftworlders must have a positive population growth inorder to have that growth despite the wars etc. i think everyeldar has t go through that path atleast once. and the eldar leaders make sure that only enough children are produced that they can afford to have on the craftworld, mainy for replaceing combat loses but every now and then to expand jut a little. i see the exodites haveing large familiesas they are basically armish eldar and live a more basic life and thus most likely have large families but probably still have a fairly stable population as its not in any danger.

Crazy fan theory: The Dark Eldar are surrounding themselves with so much pain and excess pleasure not only to stave off soul death but to also prepare themselves from the innevitable day that they do end up as dinner for Slaanesh. Infinity suffering endless agony and pleasure inside Slaanesh might be tempered somewhat if you've already experienced such things before. Of course paltry Dark Elder methods pale in comparison to what Slaanesh can dole out, but it might still help a little.
1) Haemunculi never rulled the Commorragh. They dumped all that boring ruling bullshit on the old aristocracy and retreated tp their laboratories to do really fun stuff. When Vect took over they looked at it, decided that itd woed not matter and continued with their business. 2) Stitching corpses and recovering as much as eldarly possible helps, but not necessary. With enough suffering Haemunculi can resurrect their client out of the single finger bone. 3) Vect is actually 10000 years old, not 5000. It took him 5000 years to rise from the slave boy to a level at which he could plan his revolution. 4) Disjunctions are not at all what you have described, and the means to deal with them have nothing to do with Blanks. "Path of" series goes in enough details on them to make an entire lore video. 5) Webway actually repairs itself over time unless you don't remove the very problem that caused it to crack. Finding it and dealing with it is the main focus of eldar in power during Disjunctions. 6) Raiding Tau isn't actually that popular. They don't have much of a soul even in comparison with humans and their emotions are much duller. As a result they don't make good pain slaves or gladiators. 7) The only marines who actually invaded the Dark City and got away alive are the Salamanders and the Death Guard. Both suffered quite heavy casualties though. Subrealms didn't get such a stellar records, but they're backwater boondocks as far as high Cabals are concerned.

Noximus Jamaicanus Well, when their primarch was thrown to their planet, at one point, the DE tried raiding them. Vulkan clobbered a hundred of them and ever since, the salamanders have a dislike for them. There was also a moment where salamanders died to a human-killing virus by them, only for their armors to reanimate under the machine spirit and finish murdering those responsible.
I instantly start disliking anything that has Ultramarines in the starring role. Salamanders and Space Wolves would be my favourites... from that side. World eaters and Death Guard hold my true allegiance.
Given the Drukari target civilian populations to terrorize and enslave and torture, the Salamanders take particular... care to ensure their flamers are in tip top condition for any close encounters.
I beta tested the Dark Eldar. The Dark Eldar if I remember correctly were a 4th Edition Rule. I had a bunch of pre-production models. These were Pewter, and not the plastic they officially released in. I wish I could find my banner. It was a Dark Eldar standing on a mound of skulls. Holding a banner with a space marine who was flayed open later by layer. It took over a month to build. I used tissue paper, a Warhammer skeleton 10 set, and a bunch of custom parts.

You know it is really surprising that Arch's videos aren't more popular. The editing is nice and the script is very well done while not just rehashing what can be looked up on the wiki. Love the video! Though the eldar (especially dark eldar) are not brittle at all. The Imperium did an autopsy on them and discovered just how strong and durable they really are. Not NEARLY as formidable as a space marine, but well beyond a "normal" human. Dark Eldar especially are known to be much stronger and more durable than their craftworld kin. Not to mention they're agile enough to kick a live grenade back at the enemy before it explodes. Still, a shotgun blast to the chest will take out almost anything, so the point is moot. Again, love the video! Subscribed! Edit: Also I didn't know the haemonculi were also the aristocracy of the dark eldar before Vect came on the scene. I always thought they were the remnants of the pleasure cults that become MORE powerful than the actual aristocracy. A small distinction I know, but there are references in the lore of dark eldar nobles that aren't haemonculi (kabalite trueborns for example) so I thought I'd bring it up. As for craftworld eldar "woohoo", we know that Eldar bang all the time. It's a common misconception that craftworlders are prudes, but thats only in comparison to their dark cousins. If you read the "Path of" series you see that craftworlders have a ton of casual sex, drink, do drugs etc. The fact that they consider this lifestyle to be conservative and restrictive is proof of just how hedonistic they naturally are. As for actual child birth, Imperial scientists speculate that Eldar reproduction takes place over a LONG period of time and has many biological steps. It's something that's VERY intentional requires a lot of work from both parties. But when you get down to it the REAL REASON why craftworlders don't have children often is because there's a limited amount of soul stones. You can't risk having a baby who will be immediately murderfucked by Slaanesh, and getting new soul stones is very...VERY difficult.

Question: is it the actual screams the dark eldar need, or just triggering the emotions? Because if it’s the latter, could they not find a way to basically have pod people wired up like in the matrix (mental horrors or simulations) carefully monitored to reset to prevent desensitization or adverse health effects from constant elevated emotional/mental trauma?
I mean we don't know the specifics, only the Homunculi do, but as what it is doing is, you know, regenerating the soul; it is probably safe to assume that it is the emotion itself as that impacts the warp(aka the realm of souls) also you're just forgetting that the dark eldar aren't only doing this because they need to and even without Slanesh they would almost definitely still still be having massive murder orgies. That is why Slanesh happened.
Another possible reason for the dark eldar being more tech savvy is due to the fact that they don't rely on psychic abilities and things like wraithbone and instead focused on other means to get things done. In the second codex it said that the dark eldae no longer had psychic (or at least stunted) powers, but were more physically able then their gypsy cousins.

Loving these lore videos. I started learning about Warhammer when Total War Warhammer came out - then eventually branched into Warhammer 40k and really enjoying it all. I mean, we all knew Fab Bile was one of the most terrifying in Warhammer. He's literally a psycho Apothecary off on his own making monsters that rival Haemonculi beasts of flesh. His minions are all clones, or crafted from captured bodies. It's nuts. I remember hearing a story from ABP about when he captured another Apothecary that was fighting alongside scouts marines / sent one of the scouts away with a bunch of harvested gene seed to save their chapter. Basically said marine kills a dreadnought in melee, then gets blown away from the reactor of the dread going critical, I think his plasma pistol blowing up as well. He wakes up to someone being all friendly with him and at first thinks it's a friendly Apoth. Nope. Fabius Bile dragged him off while he was in a coma and he became Bile's next toy.

Hubris sounds about right with the Craftworld Eldar's restraint. It's important to remember that EVERYTHING about the Craftworld dweller's existence is about preventing a second fall. So much so, that members of the craftworlds REGULARLY break off and become corsairs even though it means their inevitable demise. It takes a very special kind of "bored" to actually want to do that.
My theory, Cammorah is a giant joke by She-Who-Thirsts. The city is really in a diorama in one of slanneesh's pleasure palaces that it can nom at any time but they are just too much fun to eat yet.

Awesome vid as always, though I think that in the 7th ed codex and the homunculus sub-faction book of that edition they mention that reviving a dead-as-a-doornail dark eldar, does not require the corpse to be intact or even recoverable... It just requires increasingly more expensive and rare techniques and components to pull off, but there's at least one sub faction of Homunculli that make sport of finding the most cruel and unusual (and destructive) ways to get themselves killed, for the thrill and also to learn from it how to better improve their craft. This includes things like getting eaten, the last eldar nibblebit, by tyranids, getting turned into fine red mist by an imperial knight titan's chainsword, etc... The ghist of it seems to rely on them preparing some kind of husk or clone-flesh to be stored in their lair back in commoragh, which their soul will be drawn to and inhabit for revival once their current body dies. There are ways to fuck with this, as some homunculi have come to experience at the hand of rivals... And of course many a wealthy non-homunculi dark eldar who has paid said fleshgrafters for the privilidge of a sure-fire respawn feature... that some of them care about their Research and artisanship far more than monetary compensations or promises made in return... Resulting in a new existance as said homuncullus's pet research experiment which usually is more of a side-grade to the un-ending horrors of what passes for a dark eldar's after-life once they hit the warp after dying properly. In short: Life as a dark eldar is all but innevitably going to end in one way or another.. and all are of a quality that not even the most unfortunate human is likely to envy such a fate if they understood the full scope of it. But their homunculi faction have accordingly gone to such extremes to find ways to Avoid that very end station that they have pretty much made it possible for any dark eldar to Always revive, alive and well from even the most brutal and typically fatal experience to be found in the 40k verse, as long as they have the wealth to pay a homunculi for the services (or if they are one, to aquire a steady supply of the reagents and components required), and of course finding a homunculus that can be trusted, as far as trust ever goes for their kind, to actually do what they were paid to do. Naturally there are a couple of exeptions.. not all revival methods are equal after all, and Ynnead is evidently able to visit true death upon a lot of things that shouldnt be killable, Homunculi for all their efforts included, which is part of why that sub-faction of the Deldar did not ally with the ynnead faction back in 7e cause they Really dont like joining a god who's basically going to invalidate and make them abandon everything they have spent their overly extended lifespan and nigh on every last shred of mortal sanity trying to accomplish as far as immortality goes.
That's some next level irony to get an add for a Star Treck game on a video about one of the best examples why 40k is the (in my opinion) better scifi uniniverse with deeper, more adult and sophisticated lore. Especially since Star Treck always was something that let me believe that scifi isn't my cup of tea because it is to sterile and clean for even 10yo me... Now I'm disappointed of myself for not discovering 40k earlier than something like two months ago...

On the whole thing with Craftworld Eldar not reproducing issue: I'm not sure where or when I read about it, or even if that's been either consolidated or retconned in the current canon, but I seem to recall either a suggestion or an open statement about soul gems being a bottleneck in the Craftworld Eldar reproductive cycle. The gist of it was that they could only be sourced from a single planet or moon (or a handful of them?) and that in order for them to work properly an eldar would have to "bond" with them very early in their infancy (perhaps when they're still toddlers). The result of this is that even if Craftworld Eldars started mass-producing babies, those babies would then grow up to be immediately schlorped by Slaanesh upon getting inevitably murdered by a Drukhari or a Deathwatch marine, as part of the natural course of their life cycle.
This is exactly the reason why "Drukharii" and "Asuryani" are stupid names. Either keep Druchii and Asur in 40k or think up something original, don't bastardise yourself, GW! I'm not even gonna start with "aeldari"...

i all ways saw the eldar's state of not haveing a large population as self imposed due to lck of sole stones, but the path of the parent must be a common if stricktly controlled path for A the craftworlds to be 100 times larger then they were 10000 years ago despited endless wars between then and now. ie the craftworlders must have a positive population growth inorder to have that growth despite the wars etc. i think everyeldar has t go through that path atleast once. and the eldar leaders make sure that only enough children are produced that they can afford to have on the craftworld, mainy for replaceing combat loses but every now and then to expand jut a little. i see the exodites haveing large familiesas they are basically armish eldar and live a more basic life and thus most likely have large families but probably still have a fairly stable population as its not in any danger.

Crazy fan theory: The Dark Eldar are surrounding themselves with so much pain and excess pleasure not only to stave off soul death but to also prepare themselves from the innevitable day that they do end up as dinner for Slaanesh. Infinity suffering endless agony and pleasure inside Slaanesh might be tempered somewhat if you've already experienced such things before. Of course paltry Dark Elder methods pale in comparison to what Slaanesh can dole out, but it might still help a little.

1) Haemunculi never rulled the Commorragh. They dumped all that boring ruling bullshit on the old aristocracy and retreated tp their laboratories to do really fun stuff. When Vect took over they looked at it, decided that itd woed not matter and continued with their business.
2) Stitching corpses and recovering as much as eldarly possible helps, but not necessary. With enough suffering Haemunculi can resurrect their client out of the single finger bone.
3) Vect is actually 10000 years old, not 5000. It took him 5000 years to rise from the slave boy to a level at which he could plan his revolution.
4) Disjunctions are not at all what you have described, and the means to deal with them have nothing to do with Blanks. "Path of" series goes in enough details on them to make an entire lore video.
5) Webway actually repairs itself over time unless you don't remove the very problem that caused it to crack. Finding it and dealing with it is the main focus of eldar in power during Disjunctions.
6) Raiding Tau isn't actually that popular. They don't have much of a soul even in comparison with humans and their emotions are much duller. As a result they don't make good pain slaves or gladiators.
7) The only marines who actually invaded the Dark City and got away alive are the Salamanders and the Death Guard. Both suffered quite heavy casualties though. Subrealms didn't get such a stellar records, but they're backwater boondocks as far as high Cabals are concerned.

I beta tested the Dark Eldar. The Dark Eldar if I remember correctly were a 4th Edition Rule. I had a bunch of pre-production models. These were Pewter, and not the plastic they officially released in.
I wish I could find my banner. It was a Dark Eldar standing on a mound of skulls. Holding a banner with a space marine who was flayed open later by layer. It took over a month to build. I used tissue paper, a Warhammer skeleton 10 set, and a bunch of custom parts.

Love the video! Though the eldar (especially dark eldar) are not brittle at all. The Imperium did an autopsy on them and discovered just how strong and durable they really are. Not NEARLY as formidable as a space marine, but well beyond a "normal" human.
Dark Eldar especially are known to be much stronger and more durable than their craftworld kin. Not to mention they're agile enough to kick a live grenade back at the enemy before it explodes.
Still, a shotgun blast to the chest will take out almost anything, so the point is moot. Again, love the video! Subscribed!
Edit: Also I didn't know the haemonculi were also the aristocracy of the dark eldar before Vect came on the scene. I always thought they were the remnants of the pleasure cults that become MORE powerful than the actual aristocracy. A small distinction I know, but there are references in the lore of dark eldar nobles that aren't haemonculi (kabalite trueborns for example) so I thought I'd bring it up.
As for craftworld eldar "woohoo", we know that Eldar bang all the time. It's a common misconception that craftworlders are prudes, but thats only in comparison to their dark cousins. If you read the "Path of" series you see that craftworlders have a ton of casual sex, drink, do drugs etc. The fact that they consider this lifestyle to be conservative and restrictive is proof of just how hedonistic they naturally are.
As for actual child birth, Imperial scientists speculate that Eldar reproduction takes place over a LONG period of time and has many biological steps. It's something that's VERY intentional requires a lot of work from both parties.
But when you get down to it the REAL REASON why craftworlders don't have children often is because there's a limited amount of soul stones. You can't risk having a baby who will be immediately murderfucked by Slaanesh, and getting new soul stones is very...VERY difficult.
I sincerly hope for more videos about the lovely Dark Eldar. While I don't have an army of them, they are quickly becoming my favorite faction.

Question: is it the actual screams the dark eldar need, or just triggering the emotions? Because if it’s the latter, could they not find a way to basically have pod people wired up like in the matrix (mental horrors or simulations) carefully monitored to reset to prevent desensitization or adverse health effects from constant elevated emotional/mental trauma?
I mean we don't know the specifics, only the Homunculi do, but as what it is doing is, you know, regenerating the soul; it is probably safe to assume that it is the emotion itself as that impacts the warp(aka the realm of souls) also you're just forgetting that the dark eldar aren't only doing this because they need to and even without Slanesh they would almost definitely still still be having massive murder orgies. That is why Slanesh happened.

Another possible reason for the dark eldar being more tech savvy is due to the fact that they don't rely on psychic abilities and things like wraithbone and instead focused on other means to get things done. In the second codex it said that the dark eldae no longer had psychic (or at least stunted) powers, but were more physically able then their gypsy cousins.

I mean, we all knew Fab Bile was one of the most terrifying in Warhammer. He's literally a psycho Apothecary off on his own making monsters that rival Haemonculi beasts of flesh. His minions are all clones, or crafted from captured bodies. It's nuts. I remember hearing a story from ABP about when he captured another Apothecary that was fighting alongside scouts marines / sent one of the scouts away with a bunch of harvested gene seed to save their chapter. Basically said marine kills a dreadnought in melee, then gets blown away from the reactor of the dread going critical, I think his plasma pistol blowing up as well. He wakes up to someone being all friendly with him and at first thinks it's a friendly Apoth. Nope. Fabius Bile dragged him off while he was in a coma and he became Bile's next toy.

Hubris sounds about right with the Craftworld Eldar's restraint. It's important to remember that EVERYTHING about the Craftworld dweller's existence is about preventing a second fall. So much so, that members of the craftworlds REGULARLY break off and become corsairs even though it means their inevitable demise. It takes a very special kind of "bored" to actually want to do that.

I hear salamanders will momentarily displace their incredible humanity just to indulge in the act of ruining a dark eldar's day. And that is saying something
Awesome vid as always, though I think that in the 7th ed codex and the homunculus sub-faction book of that edition they mention that reviving a dead-as-a-doornail dark eldar, does not require the corpse to be intact or even recoverable... It just requires increasingly more expensive and rare techniques and components to pull off, but there's at least one sub faction of Homunculli that make sport of finding the most cruel and unusual (and destructive) ways to get themselves killed, for the thrill and also to learn from it how to better improve their craft. This includes things like getting eaten, the last eldar nibblebit, by tyranids, getting turned into fine red mist by an imperial knight titan's chainsword, etc...
The ghist of it seems to rely on them preparing some kind of husk or clone-flesh to be stored in their lair back in commoragh, which their soul will be drawn to and inhabit for revival once their current body dies. There are ways to fuck with this, as some homunculi have come to experience at the hand of rivals... And of course many a wealthy non-homunculi dark eldar who has paid said fleshgrafters for the privilidge of a sure-fire respawn feature... that some of them care about their Research and artisanship far more than monetary compensations or promises made in return... Resulting in a new existance as said homuncullus's pet research experiment which usually is more of a side-grade to the un-ending horrors of what passes for a dark eldar's after-life once they hit the warp after dying properly.
In short: Life as a dark eldar is all but innevitably going to end in one way or another.. and all are of a quality that not even the most unfortunate human is likely to envy such a fate if they understood the full scope of it. But their homunculi faction have accordingly gone to such extremes to find ways to Avoid that very end station that they have pretty much made it possible for any dark eldar to Always revive, alive and well from even the most brutal and typically fatal experience to be found in the 40k verse, as long as they have the wealth to pay a homunculi for the services (or if they are one, to aquire a steady supply of the reagents and components required), and of course finding a homunculus that can be trusted, as far as trust ever goes for their kind, to actually do what they were paid to do.
Naturally there are a couple of exeptions.. not all revival methods are equal after all, and Ynnead is evidently able to visit true death upon a lot of things that shouldnt be killable, Homunculi for all their efforts included, which is part of why that sub-faction of the Deldar did not ally with the ynnead faction back in 7e cause they Really dont like joining a god who's basically going to invalidate and make them abandon everything they have spent their overly extended lifespan and nigh on every last shred of mortal sanity trying to accomplish as far as immortality goes.

That's some next level irony to get an add for a Star Treck game on a video about one of the best examples why 40k is the (in my opinion) better scifi uniniverse with deeper, more adult and sophisticated lore.

On the whole thing with Craftworld Eldar not reproducing issue:
I'm not sure where or when I read about it, or even if that's been either consolidated or retconned in the current canon, but I seem to recall either a suggestion or an open statement about soul gems being a bottleneck in the Craftworld Eldar reproductive cycle.
The gist of it was that they could only be sourced from a single planet or moon (or a handful of them?) and that in order for them to work properly an eldar would have to "bond" with them very early in their infancy (perhaps when they're still toddlers).
The result of this is that even if Craftworld Eldars started mass-producing babies, those babies would then grow up to be immediately schlorped by Slaanesh upon getting inevitably murdered by a Drukhari or a Deathwatch marine, as part of the natural course of their life cycle.
