The good thing over the US is that a full spec S price is very close to M base model which makes this a no brainer decision. The diff to the competition model is still $5K which quite large diff. I chose the base since I like the white color better, and I was worried about the rigidity of the carbon wheels on public roads.
Best review of the k67 vs k66… I can attest to this experience. I went from a S to a M1000RR. And all I say you respect all other slower vehicles. How it delivers the power is brutal.
🤣 “The perfect 20 degrees”. Riding in Australia I’d still be wearing winter gear. 20 degrees at my old home racetrack (being Phillip Island) would see me putting on warm clothing post sessions and races as it only took about 20 minutes to cool down. Nice review. 👍😎🇦🇺
I have bought this , downgraded from Ducati v4s. Not a swap, but almost. What you said is correct, 150mph is harder than 180 on a fared bike, and i am not wanting to do it very often. On track of course. This is great handling machine, so you don't get left on corners. Just straights that are long. I do miss the Duc, but am now, at over 50, enjoying the bmw competition as easier to ride at sensible speeds and I use it much more. Great video.
I can’t believe they force you to hang that dirty big license plate on the back. This bike looks amazing with a small plate, no reflectors, a full exhaust, and pillion peg delete.
I know it is aweful! I did a video on trying to do make a legal tucked plate which shows the difference in plate sizes. Why the UK can’t legally allow a 7x5 plate, that’s just about acceptable!
I put a Racefit on mine before I picked it up, sounds much better but the worse bit , looks wise, is the CAT . Vibrations through the bars gets worse with more mileage on it, I’m at 1400 miles now and after an hour the pins n needles are horrendous. Great review though Dom , keep it up 👍🏼😎
Sorry, i have to disagree with many of your points in the review. I currently own a base model M1000R and have also had the pleasure of a S1000R sport. For the extra money of a M, compared to the current price of a S sport, you get a better torquier engine, the brakes are better, fully adjustable suspension (manual), better rider aids, a more slick quick shifter, lighter forged wheels plus a few cosmetic changes. In my opinion the M seat is harder, the riding position is slightly more prone and the stiffer suspension is unforgiving, making a long journey uncomfortable. Also, the M vibrates more than the S. But, the M has a far more usable spread of power. which is a massive plus. It stops as well as it goes and there's always the M bragging rights. I have never experienced any noticeable benefit from those wings. Other than bling, there is no rideability difference to justify the significant extra money, for the competition version you reviewed. The S and the M might look similar, but they are different beasts and the price reflects that. I found that dealers are prepared to do a deal (without part ex), so don't have to pay the list price and the base M becomes even better value for money.
Think we’re agreeing from reading the above. However I found the seat more comfortable to the pony I got a price from bmw! 😂 The vibes affected me differently, vibey like the S, but didn’t hurt my elbows which a long contestant ride on my S does. Power, M is amazing, worth it over the S? If you can afford, if you can’t no disappointment in the S (with a decat). For the suspension it is dynamic like the r but with more adjustment in the pro modes from that I saw. Slap it in road and it is soft and comfy, whack in dynamic pro and it’s how you set up. Or did you spec manual suspension?
@@yodomcat As for the suspension, on the S you can adjust the damping modes from the LH switch gear. Then the DDC does what it does. No switch gear option on the M. On the M these settings are Preset and you have to go into Race Pro mode, to setup custom damping values manually, then select that mode to use. Preload is manual on both S & M. On another note, UA-camrs who don't actually own an M1000R, never mention the insurance aspect. In my experience, potential buyers should check whether they can get insurance first, before purchasing the bike. I have 42 years continuous riding experience and full NCD, but my existing insurer would not quote to add an M1000R. I had to change insurers and accept some ridiculous excess and clauses to get it insured within a multi bike policy. My BMW dealer informed me that he'd lost several orders, due to insurance quote issues. Something to bear in mind 🤔
@@yodomcat I was led to believe that this was because there's currently no risk/liability data, for the M1000R. So it makes sense, that as you say, after 2 years it'll potentially get cheaper 🤞🏼.
The sad thing is I probably spent M money on my S as i bought pretty much all the carbon and billet bits, plus the forged wheels. But i didn't know the M was going to come out a year later lol
good video. I am thinking of buying one as I miss my S1000RR I had years ago, but you really do need to spend a few grand on getting a full system - the gains all over are huge, as well as the most intoxicating sound you could imagine.

Mine is a £14k s-sport (and I’ve probably put £2k on it with billet bits etc over time). The base M is £19.4k and you’ll want to do levers and some carbon. £24k is the bike in the video, and you’d do nothing to it as it has everything! Apart from a better end can for noise.
Hey, loved the video. Would you reckon the non-Comp version has less bar vibrations due to the forged rims? And overall, is the Comp. pack worth it in your eyes, it is pretty much just the carbon pieces right? If the forged rims would lessen the vibrations, then I don't really see the need for it, other than the black livery of course :) How would you compare the M to the new 1390 SDR Evo? I'm looking to upgrade from my 2021 MT-09 SP. Thanks :).

I’m buying the standard and not the competition… but if I had a spare £5k I’d pump for the competition. The reason is i have tried all other bits, rearsets, mirrors, levers, and the M stuff is superior always. So if you can afford it get it; but if your not too bothered with bling, the stock is better than any aftermarket. Just not as good as the M stuff. Hope that helps 👍🏻

The M1000 for me and I would still put a full titanium system on it, not for the extra power so much, I do not like the look of the standard system with all those catalytic converters, it makes the standard exhaust look ugly.
I took my M1000R three weeks ago but I am not happy about the vibration it has. Above 100 KM I can’t see any clear view on the mirrors and I think the bike is on break. Did you notice the same. I put only 600 KM on it so far and don’t know if this vibration which occurs over 100KM will be fixed after breaking period or no. I appreciate it if you let me know your thoughts. Thanks
Yeah mirrors suck. I have a video on that 😉 Rizoma stealth are better! It is a vibey bike. Personally don’t have a problem with it, but others do. I found the M less vibey as you don’t spend too much time in the top end of the rev band like the R. Heavier barends help (which means ditching the mirrors)
Keep peeled to the channel as I have some B footage going up soon and do a country lane. But cut us reviewers some slack, it’s hard to ride a bike, talk about the bike, keep to some coherent script and stay alive. Then we get it in the neck riding too slow or too fast. You just can’t win 🤦🏻♂️
Not daily, but couple of times a week. I do 12k pa on the bike. If I was starting over I’d have the M. But as I have the S it’s not worth the upgrade for me right now. But next bike, will be either M or V4S and I’m sure it will be the M unless the pricing changes massive on the Duc’s
@@yodomcat that makes sense. I found a good deal on a M package 1000r at my local dealership. Basically 5k used off a 23 s1000r. Love the way the M looks but they are about 26k here in the states. Cheaper than the V4s but 200 Hp might be to much for me.
@@mattstakeontheancients7594 the S with a decat and flash is more power than anyone needs, more fun and more useful. But who ever turns down more power!?! 🙈😂

Love all the bikes today but since you talk about vibe and fun did you ever give the Super Duke a try? In my experience there is no naked on the market that provides soul and fun factor like the SD.....in fact nothing even comes close. I can see an RR on track being amazing and the R just seems like a naked RR......meaning a high reving race bike where the fun happens after you are already going way too fast. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have either the R or the RR in stable but I think I agree with you that the V4S would provide more smiles. I have a Pikes Peak and even at 170hp it is incredible, I can't imagine the 215HP V4R. One thing to consider is resale value, I imagine the M will hold its value better sort of justifying the higher price.......maybe....;-)
That is true but I find it to be what ever you want it to be. I ride all over town and aside from being a little lumpy at 10mph or less it is pretty gentle. I am just not a fan of parallel twins vs a big V twin like the 1290. I imagine that M series is bonkers too
would really like to get into bmw motorcycles since I'm a M car guy, but their offerings at the beginner level are kind of hit or miss with large gaps in performance. g310r seems like not enough bike to hold for years and f900r is too much to start on.
33 front, 35 rear cold. Everyone is different though. Take stock pressure and every ride drop it 3 psi until you get down to 28 and don’t go lower than that. You’ll know within 10 min what you don’t like, so it’s a process or elimination 👍🏻
@@yodomcat superb. It's a big job (took me 8hrs total over a weekend and a few lunch breaks). I didn't rush it just took my time. I removed the rear o2 sensors too as they have been mapped out. Did you go full titanium? Who's doing your mapping? Any questions with the install, let me know.
@@lordgibbness still unsure on the titanium as can cover with a belly pan and not sure worth the £500 extra as no doubt will upgrade the M in 24 months. No remap just a flash and keep the sensors. Others have said runs fone
@@yodomcat yeah Ti is lovely as it blues up. But does cost you more for sure. A flash and remap will be the same thing... You don't need an ecu tune, you're correct, but it runs so much better with one. It bangs on upshifts, pops on the overrun (not from the fake pair valve, but proper motorsport fuel pops). The qs is much crisper (more like you found the M probably), less jerky at low rpms as the eco lean fuelling is fixed. My ECU was out of the bike for only 3 days while it went to those guys in Germany, so very quick turnaround. Was around £400 all in for the tune.
Your not just getting the engine for your money and your on the competition the standard m1000r is only £19500 ish, so you don’t have to pay £5500 more if you don’t want to, and if you spec up an s1000r there’s not much difference
Yes I covered this in the video. My bike is worth £12/13k if I sold. And to jump on the base M is £19.5k for me (and those with a S in the same position) the jump is £6k. More to the competition edition. If you sped up a full M-sport billet pack/carbon pack etc then you’re at full M money, but you’ll have the XR engine and not the RR engine so in that position I’d deffo take a base M and forego some extras.
@@yodomcat i think i will bite the bullet and order the stealth however is a tuff decision as i really like the same you got. there 2 things about the s1000r ididn't like it much wend i got it. 1 the exhaust which i changed for a sc-project.2 the mirros. mirros will be changed by christmas👍

@yodomcat unfortunately no because mounting the electronic shift cylinder requires some modification to the motorcycle that is not easily reversed, though minor. I know I'd be thrilled with either machine. The Ducati V4 sounds amazing and does have prestige for sure. But the BMW M 1000R with all the carbon, wings and M bits is beautiful too. I disagree I think the new bike is much nicer all over. However the old bike was very good and quicker some home tinkering. But the new digital upgrade and looks put the gen3 above.
The look of it from your rider's vantage point is ruined for me by the cheap-looking front brake reservoir. It really ought have a nice aluminium one like what Triumph offer.
Yeah some corners have been cut, but you can replace, however at this price point there is the argument for should you, but that’s how I suppose they have the price £5k cheaper than it’s rivals. I’d much rather look at that reservoir than Triumphs god awful UI of a dash, they need to roll the software back to 2019.
Yes and no. The electronics make it very manageable for day to day. And the power is very good for track, but above 130 staying on is the issue with all nakeds; but getting there 🤩

The M1000 for me and I would still put a full titanium system on it, not for the extra power so much, I do not like the look of the standard system with all those catalytic converters, it makes the standard exhaust look ugly.
I wouldn’t disagree 👍🏻
@@yodomcat Thank you very much!
Great Review, I love mine!!
You got me at BATMAN
😹
Great review. Many thanks. G
What are the mirrors on your s1kr?
Rizomo circuit. But don’t get them they’re shit.
How much MPG do you get from yours S1000r? on your normal/agressive ride style ?
I only ride aggressive £20 and 130 miles range
@@yodomcat That is surprisingly good for that bike. - 36 mpg . Thank your for you answer
another review without corners
Keep peeled to the channel as I have some B footage going up soon and do a country lane.
But cut us reviewers some slack, it’s hard to ride a bike, talk about the bike, keep to some coherent script and stay alive. Then we get it in the neck riding too slow or too fast. You just can’t win 🤦🏻♂️
Totally agree. Americans are the worst for these types of useless reviews.
Curious if your using the bike as a daily commuter bike with going on trips on the weekends would you prefer your S to the M.
@@yodomcat I mean if both were the same price I go M. Be nice to blow by a gsxr rider in shorts and a t-shirt . I also know if I had 200 Hp I’d want to see what that would do and get a big ass ticket. Will prolly on the S too but won’t be as fast.
I love the 790/890 duke, but the super duke is just a bit too bonkers for me.
That is true but I find it to be what ever you want it to be. I ride all over town and aside from being a little lumpy at 10mph or less it is pretty gentle. I am just not a fan of parallel twins vs a big V twin like the 1290. I imagine that M series is bonkers too
@@chrisvantassel8867 I’m stressed on the SD and Aprillias, feel like if you’re not riding them hard they don’t feel right.
@@yodomcat I experienced that on gen 1 and 2 but gen 3 is much more rideable.
would really like to get into bmw motorcycles since I'm a M car guy, but their offerings at the beginner level are kind of hit or miss with large gaps in performance. g310r seems like not enough bike to hold for years and f900r is too much to start on.
Yeah beginner bikes are 300 then the jump to litre. The f900 feels more like a 600, but I don’t like that bike.
What tyre pressures do you run on your S1000r?
33 front, 35 rear cold. Everyone is different though. Take stock pressure and every ride drop it 3 psi until you get down to 28 and don’t go lower than that. You’ll know within 10 min what you don’t like, so it’s a process or elimination 👍🏻
Does the m1000R vibrate like the s1000RR at high-speed??
Yes. For me it’s not an issue, but I know it is more so for others. Strangely for me my golfers and tennis elbows were better on the M than my S.
A full system on the s1000 platform is WELL with doing. It really wakes the bike up! I also got the RS2E remap done too, and now it's a beast!
And their remap sorts out many things including the QS, rev cut, fuelling, cold start, intake/exhaust flaps etc etc
I’m doing this on mine soonish. Arrow headers, Akra pipe decat and flash.
If you sped up a full M-sport billet pack/carbon pack etc then you’re at full M money, but you’ll have the XR engine and not the RR engine so in that position I’d deffo take a base M and forego some extras.
can please name your mirrors on the sport s1000r, thank you
Rizoma Circuit 👍🏻
@@yodomcat thank you, i just had a look on their website and will be ordering some mirrors 🙂 i also like the stealth they got 😅
@@flaviokepista9086 was talking with my friend over the weekend about his stealth and he still loves them. Says they are rock solid 👌🏻
As a second bike would you choose this M1000R or the V4S?
Depends… What’s the first bike?
@yodomcat my other bike is something totally different, more of a daily rider/off road toy. It's a 2022 Honda Africa Twin 1100 Adventure Sports model.
@yodomcat I went and sat on both yesterday and both were comfortable for me. Unfortunately I cannot test ride either because I have to use an electronic shifter, my left foot does not work.
@@PleadTheFifth_Racing it’s an amazing bike. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder so which would you feel more happy pulling up to the bike meet in. For me the bmw is perfect, but the Ducati has more prestige. At that level of cash though is there no way you can test ride with your foot?
@yodomcat unfortunately no because mounting the electronic shift cylinder requires some modification to the motorcycle that is not easily reversed, though minor.
I know I'd be thrilled with either machine. The Ducati V4 sounds amazing and does have prestige for sure. But the BMW M 1000R with all the carbon, wings and M bits is beautiful too.
Performance wise is the Ducati more hooligan machine and the bmw more refined race with decent in town manners?
it has a manual or electronic steering damper?
Manual that can adjusted. The S can’t be adjusted
It will still need a full exhaust tune and air filter i’m sure the bike will be much more fun once you unlock it and get the full potential
I’d say there is enough power without. Just whack a pro-race on to up the noise and done. On the S yes full system needed. 👍🏻
I’ve ridden the streetfighter and the M1000R and I’ve owned the s1000r and by far the M1000R is the best bike and I’m sorry there is no comparison with the s1000r to the M1000R!! It sounds like you’re being a bit biased.
Didn’t think I was the M is the option to go for… if you can afford, but if you can’t afford the S is a cracking option. Which is why next season you’ll see a M on my drive 😹
@@yodomcat brilliant and I agree the s1000r is a fantastic bike without a doubt, but the M1000R is in another league, hope you have a great time with your new bike!! Your a lucky guy 👍
I’d be pissed if I payed 25k for a bike that clunks every time you put it in first. It’s a nice looking bike but I’d rather the cb 1000r
I’ve not ridden a cb1000
Can you actually see anything through those Rizoma Mirrors on your S1000R , or are they just an expensive add on, thinking of a pair for my bike ? Cheers, great Review.
Unfortunately they are vibey, since going on the M I realise the same as theirs, but because smaller not as useful. The best mirrors are the Rizoma Stealth they are solid 👍🏻 Then if you want cheap and bar end the HJR are a good option, I did a review here: ua-cam.com/video/-mZF755x070/v-deo.html
They are gai as fuck, your not flying a jet fighter, you are riding a bike.
Carbon, cabon, kabon, kabooon! 😂
Neutral? As a speed triple 1200RS rider, I say that neutral is a myth!
😹
I can't get passed the horrific giant yellow number plate.... wtf
That’s what a standard size looks like! If you check my channel I did a vlog on plate sizes and the legalities 👍🏻
M uses too much fuel compared to S, I can get 70kms more with the S before the light comes on.
Yeah bragging rights , not gonna pay that sort of wedge , stick with my 2022 r motorsport . But decent video
6 months later on auto trader for £20500 and base model 15500 ..... sooner than you though !
More £17k; I wouldn’t trust a £15k one just yet!
s1000r -1 sprocket and you no longer think about downshifting to overtake -;)
I’ve done done a tooth at the back on my S and also at the front (same as 2 on the back) and it’s all down to shift cam. It’s fantastic just ride everywhere in 2nd
@@yodomcat😊😊😊😊
would you pick a zh2 over this?
No chance! If you want to go fast in a straight line and have a heart attack on the way then yeah. Can you imagine riding one in winter! 😂
@@yodomcat 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Literally just look at Ducati v4 street fighter and the bmw s1000r
Which you buying?
👌🏼👏🏼
The old S1000r was far better than the Uero5 S1000r
In Race mode you get more pops
I was in race-pro. Same issue as the S, you need to put a stubby on or decat.
thats newport p
Bits of it 👍🏻
You all have to get rid of those massive yellow eye sore license plates
7x5 is still plenty big and acceptable to bikers! Though 7x4 is better 🫡
Some times it actually is the rider not the bike!
It’s always the rider. A friend of mine is the same height, age, weight, etc and we always disagree on bikes.
Too powerful for a naked bike. Get a twin.😊
Yes and no. The electronics make it very manageable for day to day. And the power is very good for track, but above 130 staying on is the issue with all nakeds; but getting there 🤩
@yodomcat I have a Z900Rs cafe (nose fairing) and that is too fast for itself really. Above 80mph it is a chore.
none!
Im gay
You should be looking at gixxer reviews then 😂
You don't DRIVE motorcycles.
It's hard to talk, ride, have an idea of what to say, stay alive, etc. Wording mistakes will happen.
Yep, he flies it
Technically you do.
