engineering kids at berklee and full sail should have to write a paper on this discussion in order to graduate...the amount of information and useful philosophy here is incredible
"I never heard a carpenter worry about what tools they were using, they were always more concerned with the house they built." -Frank Dave Pensado. I receive that bit of wisdom there. Whether it's ProTools or Acid Pro, a good mix is a good mix.
can't thank you enough for these shows! It is already a HUGE privilege to hear your stories, what you use, what equipments you like and etc, but to learn the know hows, tricks and skills... Again, Cant thank you enough !
Dave, regarding your dream of there being more respect for our profession, in my opinion THIS SHOW does exactly that. No other video I've ever seen shows the sheer amount of passion and forethought required by people on your level, the fact that you, and so many of your guests took the time out of their busy and successful careers to help people aspiring to make something of themselves in this industry deserves exactly that respect. Keep it up guys, these videos are invaluable.
I really enjoy all the great stories, great tips and techniques... However, what I take away from these interviews is the great respect everyone has for each other. You guys are doing a great thing with Pensados Place! Inspirational.
my God, i'm addicted to these videos....I'm finding it very difficult to watch ANY of these videos without pausing at least once to listen to a track they talk about, or try a technique they mention (like the sub monitoring trick. which is awesome. i tried it), or just to read the background on the guest. what dave is doing is beyond great. i dont want to tell anyone about his channel tho sometimes because people ruin everything good....
Such an amazing episode, thank you guys so much! I like that JJP zoned in on how you think and your state of mind. Dave you are so open and willing to share, its amazing to pick your brain and your heart. I hope these videos never stop!
my mind is exploding.. from about 25 mins in when we rattles off all these mix techniques on different monitors... i haven't learned this much in one day since i was a toddler.
Possibly the funniest quote EVER! "I like having my clients around in calculated doses. My mixes don't sound good all the time. About 70% of the time I'm working, I can see shear terror on their faces!" - Dave Pensado
I hope Dave and JJP read this: YOU HAVE TRULY PROVEN YOURSELVES AS LEGENDS/MASTERS OF THIS GUILD BY SHARING THIS INTERVIEW there's absolutely NO ONE that wouldn't be awed by this footage! thanks a MILLION
I think he means opening the hi cut... disengaging the crossover so it works all the way up it's frequency response, as opposed to hi cutting it so as not to overlap with the main speakers' low end.
"The loudness wars are a non-issue." Wow, l feel the same way, even eight years later. It's the hand we've been dealt. Learn how to get there, experiment, as Dave counsels. It's actually fun, and you can learn *a lot.*
Great 2 episodes Dave! I'd love to see an ITL where you show us tips/tricks on improving our workflow when tracking, say vocals, and keeping everything organized! Anyone agree?
Don't know how the world of audio is not tuned into these giveaway's I hope this doesn't mean the descent from genuine music to over compressed music we hear today is not growing as rapid. No way this channel don't blow up. If I doesn't I'm afraid my fellow friends music has changed for the worst.... please keep up the great works
Dave when you say you set the sub on full range, is that the volume or the frequency selection? I have a sub and would like to try this technique. Thanks!
Hello, there! Pensado's Place Theme comes from "P-Movie". I'd put the link here, but I'm getting a error message. Please, go to my channel here on UA-cam - it's the featured video.

What's the theme music by the way? and did u mix it? :) I know daves a guitarist but i've never heard him play.
Dave, I have a question. Are you using Auratones as mono? If so, why don't you need just one? Why do you have two or many?
Dave, what are some of your reference tracks? I'm really wondering about that
Dave, love your show. I was wondering what KRK speakers you have on your desk when you do ITL?
anyone know what it would cost to get Dave to mix a song?
hahah "hey dumbass you think that vocal sounds right" lmao I love this man!!

Wow! What an inspiration! Thank you for sharing all this information. Truly inspirational. If anybody needs me, I'll be in my project studio. :0)
Arlington ;)
I'm still laughing 10 minutes after hearing this comment!
1 mastering engineer who Dave doesn't work with anymore dislikes this.
i did some research and found out its about 5000 a mix, so its not otta my reach, but its a little much to spend for an amateur musician
does "the box" mean a computer?
groalerable yes
More than you can afford "Barefoot"
Dave, when you say that we solved problems, that's what engineers does right? :)
shout out to avid for being bothered to respond to one single email
This show should have quit after 20 episodes.
