I worked as a grip on The Black Ghiandola. I was depressed and wanted to volunteer time to something good. I thought it was going to be a small indie production. I had no idea what I had signed up for. David was/is a hero of mine and I longed to talk to him, but there was no way I'd impose myself on him that day. He's someone who liked being in his own thoughts, but gave a lot of himself to people. That can be very draining when everyone wants a piece of you.

There are directors who are iconic and memorable (Scorsese, Tarantino, Hitchcock, Welles) but the 2 who, despite having an overabundance of character, somehow never seem out of place in a movie are David Lynch and Werner Herzog. It never seems like a vanity project with them. And the movie/show is all the better for having them in it. I’m going to a local arthouse theater tonight to watch Blue Velvet with other Lynch fans. This video got me amped up ❤

David Lynch, despite the "arty" nature of his material - seems to be wholly UN-pretentious, quite genuine, and there's no irony in his work. Twin Peaks fans told me to stick with the show after I said I didn't get it one season in. Two seasons in and I still didn't get it. I watch the movie, still don't get it. I watch The Return and about halfway through the season the entire series' run flashes before my eyes. I not only get The Return, I retroactively get the entire concept of Twin Peaks in itself. It's a show about perseverance, common decency and finding the small joys in life amid the world's evil and chaos. You don't walk away from Twin Peaks with any kind of understanding for its story, it's the humanity and the little eccentricities in between that make it special, much like David himself. This was a great watch.

My introduction to David Lynch was Wild at Heart. Unfortunately, I was also 8 years old, and I only happened upon the movie because it was part of one of my Uncle's VHS tapes full of recorded HBO movies. It had Harlem Nights starting the tape, Wild at Heart in the middle, and I was trying to fast forward to "Gay Purr-ee" the underrated Judy Garland/Chuck Jones animated movie
One day I just let the entire movie play, and I never saw Nicolas Cage the same way again. Later on I discovered Blue Velvet when I overheard Dennis Hopper screaming while playing Donkey Kong 64.
My stepdad was watching it, and I just happened to walk in during the closet headshot scene. So I always had a weird history of just happening upon Lynch's work and being fascinated by it. May he rest in peace, I can't imagine anyone else playing Gordon.

One trivia piece that shows how much people respected him: when he started _Twin Peaks The Return,_ set photos were leaking and he got annoyed. He tweeted for people to please stop leaking photos or else he was going to quit the project. THE SET PHOTOS STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. People wanted Season 3 so bad that they turned down paparazzi money to see it. When else would that happen?

The episode runtime is that of typical sitcom, so it’s a much lower time commitment to watch the show. It certainly also helps that it’s hilarious and wonderfully absurd as well too, of course!

@ No worries I liked the video a lot (which I failed to mention), just noticed it, wasn’t meant as a heavy criticism

he was horrible in those sh*tty american animated 'shows'. I like it when he focuses on his own stuff and not made a prop.

There are many tales of "great" directors being abusive monsters to work under; if I was an actor, I would have wanted to work for David Lynch. It seems he could make great movies without being a tyrant.

Roger Ebert is a hack with shit taste. Every film from the 80s and 90s we care about NOW, he was all up his own ass about back in the day.
