There was a pretty funny post on Bluesky after he passed, something like “It’s me, the guy who’s sad because the bartender from The Cleveland Show is gone”
I worked as a grip on The Black Ghiandola. I was depressed and wanted to volunteer time to something good. I thought it was going to be a small indie production. I had no idea what I had signed up for. David was/is a hero of mine and I longed to talk to him, but there was no way I'd impose myself on him that day. He's someone who liked being in his own thoughts, but gave a lot of himself to people. That can be very draining when everyone wants a piece of you.
Correct, mind you this is an excellent example of an amateur upload that possesses both style & novelty, well edited & coherent… …it’s an advantage. Still doesn’t beat OG YT, where once I witnessed an empty room except for a microphone, followed shortly by a guy entering said room & placing a condom over the microphone… …I guess prolapsed rectums are mic-drop funny, as long as there’s a prophylactic comedian involved.
There are directors who are iconic and memorable (Scorsese, Tarantino, Hitchcock, Welles) but the 2 who, despite having an overabundance of character, somehow never seem out of place in a movie are David Lynch and Werner Herzog. It never seems like a vanity project with them. And the movie/show is all the better for having them in it. I’m going to a local arthouse theater tonight to watch Blue Velvet with other Lynch fans. This video got me amped up ❤
I had heard that Alex Hirsch only voiced Bill Cipher because he couldn't get David Lynch to do it, I admit I'd not heard his voice before and it definitely makes sense now.
I already miss him so much. It's a terrible loss. Feels like a part of my damn soul has been amputated. He was our Dreamer and the dreams came from the most authentic and true part of him. Now those dreams are part of us. Rest in peace - and in dreams.
Doesn't it feel like that? It helps to know others feel the same way. Thank you. I can't stop thinking of him. It's uncomfortable and weird that he had no idea who I was and yet he was so important to me. Even more so because of his weather reports during lockdown. Each one felt like an act of love made especially for me.
@@AnthonySherritt Hi. I'm a member of a couple Lynch social media groups. This feeling we're experiencing, almost like losing a family member? We're not alone. So, so many have said this. This was my way of expressing real grief and sorrow that he's gone. I'm glad it made sense for you :)
David Lynch, despite the "arty" nature of his material - seems to be wholly UN-pretentious, quite genuine, and there's no irony in his work. There's humor, there's all sorts of things, but he seems to approach everything with the same care and integrity. I dunno how to properly describe. But man, what a loss.... RIP David.
The great thing is I think his art is truly unpretentious as well. Inland Empire is a movie that is just idea after idea, there for you to feel not decode. You can take it any way you want and it's the right way. You don't have to understand anything.
If you weren’t around in 1990 when the first season of twin peaks dropped and didn’t experience it in real time you probably wouldn’t recognise that David was excepted in to the world wide consciousness back then !!! It just happened again with a younger generation via the internet! I have loved this man’s pure art for 35 years and his art touched my soul ! May he rest in peace and dream eternally!🕉️☮️💜
Yep. His outstanding integrity was so refreshing. Such a rare thing in Hollywood, but then he wasn't mainstream Hollywood. Love him as an artist and a human being ❤
Here with you on that. I keep thinking of him everyday at random times, and sometimes the reality sets in and I cry unexpectedly. Then I'm hopeful again right after because of the beauty he added to our world. I've never mourned someone I've never met, but I'm comforted that there are so many of us mourning together.
It's weird, the same happened to me. I've always been interested in his work, but only watched season 1 and 2 of Twin Peaks before, but since his death I've been thinking a lot about him and watched 3 of his films within a few days, and plan on watching more. Truly a great artist, and it seems like he was a lovely person in real life as well
Twin Peaks fans told me to stick with the show after I said I didn't get it one season in. Two seasons in and I still didn't get it. I watch the movie, still don't get it. I watch The Return and about halfway through the season the entire series' run flashes before my eyes. I not only get The Return, I retroactively get the entire concept of Twin Peaks in itself. It's a show about perseverance, common decency and finding the small joys in life amid the world's evil and chaos. You don't walk away from Twin Peaks with any kind of understanding for its story, it's the humanity and the little eccentricities in between that make it special, much like David himself. This was a great watch.
Yes it is, and you don't have to understand all the elements to enjoy it. I could suggest watching The Missing Pieces, its a compilation of deleted and extended scenes from Fire Walk with Me. Some scenes are phenomenal.
I figure the main reason we all impersonate Lynch with the Gordon voice is because is it just feels right it just seems to fit his lovable and strange personality like when we use that voice to impersonate him it makes us feel the same way we did hearing him talk
His death was like his 🎬 movies, he left us on a cliffhanger and wanting more of whatever it is that he does. ❤David Lynch ❤ you will be greatly missed and there is no one else like you. I will miss your sense of humor and loud way of speaking you had as if you were in a dream with a lot of background noise that you had to speak over.
I never knew he was in his Dune. I just watched it this past summer and loved it again, (I know he hated the way it came out due to studio meddling, but still, I really love the original Dune). Rest in Peace, David. You are missed and in many ways, you haven't left us. Cheers from Tokyo.
What I have noticed about David lynch since he passed (I wasn't a fan and only now am exploring his interviews and acting), he doesn't seem quite real. He is like a leprechaun or cheeky phantom and it shows in the few performances I have seen. A definite unique character. So I am fascinated with the man more than his movies I must admit.
This video feels how Lynch's presence feels in general - like a nice cup of coffee and a piece of cherry pie. And I loved your impression of him, couldn't get enough
My introduction to David Lynch was Wild at Heart. Unfortunately, I was also 8 years old, and I only happened upon the movie because it was part of one of my Uncle's VHS tapes full of recorded HBO movies. It had Harlem Nights starting the tape, Wild at Heart in the middle, and I was trying to fast forward to "Gay Purr-ee" the underrated Judy Garland/Chuck Jones animated movie One day I just let the entire movie play, and I never saw Nicolas Cage the same way again. Later on I discovered Blue Velvet when I overheard Dennis Hopper screaming while playing Donkey Kong 64. My stepdad was watching it, and I just happened to walk in during the closet headshot scene. So I always had a weird history of just happening upon Lynch's work and being fascinated by it. May he rest in peace, I can't imagine anyone else playing Gordon.
Your David Lynch is bloody brilliant by the way 😂 Very interesting video! He was always a welcome addition to a Twin Peaks episode when he showed up. What a guy he was!
You've convinced me to finally start checking out David Lynch's stuff. I don't know why I never have, because I really like surrealist media. Maybe it's intimidation? Anyway, great job as always; these deep dives are top notch.
I still need to see several of his films. I feel the same kind of intimidation, like I need to really set aside time and invest in them. Mullholland Drive is phenomenal. I don’t know how other people interpret it, but to me, despite the surrealist elements, there’s a story that makes it all fit together. Rewatching it now, actually, with my interpretation in mind, and it’s just amazing. Really curious how other people see it.
