AL Copper would be great to see if he has a studio..or Muscle Shoals ?? If it's still around..thanks Warren.. You have an awesome channel for all us daydreamers of someday to chase are dreams..
I'd really love to watch JJP actually mix. Lots of videos of him talking about his gear that no one will ever be able to obtain, but I'd love to sit and watch him do his thing in real time.
I have so much respect and love for JJP, even more so after meeting and studying with him at MWTM in 2014 in France. He is a magician, a wizard, and an alchemist of sound all rolled into one. A great teacher and a kind man.
JJP's studio is out of this world! What a gear head in a good way. JJP has a special relationship with his equipment and knows his craft. So knowledgeable. Great interview! A very humble and honest guy with deep insight who is willing to share his knowledge. Wonderful video for all the "preset" generation. Great description of todays studio environment.
This is simply amazing! When Jack gets into the relations of time dynamics as such is relative to how other parts fall into their places within a mix, is the knowledge of experience that is worth its weight in gold. I flat out love this installment of PLAP.
Insecurity is an important topic. Doubt is a potent enemy. And I usually associate it with performance. Your episodes have made me go back and make some of my songs better, and that feels like belief.
JJP is a brilliant engineer and producer with the platinum records to prove it, but at the core he's just a guy having FUN making cool sounds and living the dream. I Really enjoyed this!
What a wonderful tour. Not because of the fantastic gear but because of the artistic and playful and joyful language full of excitement and, as JJP said, full of wonderment. Lovely!! Thanks Warren for doing this and giving us the opportunity to participate :)
I'm a Hip Hop and R&B producer/mix engineer. I don't think that I've heard an artist articulate this well, on the engineering side of things! Jack Joseph Puig is a very inspirational. His amount of gear is amazing too!
Hey Warren! Thanks for taking the time to make this video for us all, I've returned to it regularly over the last 3 years as a kind of compass and barometer in my work. Really inspiring hearing you both talk, and seeing a little of Jack's philosophy behind his sonics. Excellent content. Wondering if maybe a part 2 of the studio tour Jack allued to at the end of this film, might be on cards for the near future? I know a lot of us would be really thankful to hear from Jack again. Thanks Warren for the excellent channel! Warm regards from North Wales UK, Ben
39:30 "i wont go into a lengthy thing about compression." *Proceeds to talk about compression in a very lengthy and absolutely amazing way that I have neverrrrr heard omg thanks so much for this. The gear porn is one thing but learning the insider philosophies/knowledge is really why I watch these studio tours
Just...WOW! JJP is absolutely a CRAZY CRAZY genius! This has got to be one of the most creatively inspirational interviews you have ever done and that I have ever heard from a producer/mix engineer! I have been a JJP fan for years and years, but to get into his creative mind in this way for an hour was absolutely the opportunity of a lifetime! Thanks, Warren!
What an absolute Genius.. I often re-visit Cheryl Crow's Safe and Sound to remind myself of the intensity and emotion a mix should have.. JJP really nailed that one.
Guys like this are a dying breed. I would love to be his assistant. In 2 years working with any of the old Masters you probably can learn alot more and faster about the craft compared to 2 years of recording school
I'm a fan of JJP's work. I'm completely knocked out at all the modified classic gear! And with ears like JJP's, you know he's getting maximum performances from these sonic instruments! Such a massive palette of possibilities! This is an engineer-producer's wet dream! I love the fact that he takes so much knowledge, and yet isn't afraid to experiment. An artist in every sense of the word. I'm also impressed that he didn't go to great lengths to modify the room, but rather prefers to listen as the listener, in a more open room (leaving room for more gear!). My studio walls are littered with records and books in shelves. They deaden the room fine, for me at least. I've heard many of my mixes in other rooms (studio and domestic), and they hold up great! Many thanks to you Warren, and Mr. Puig. I'm amazed!
I watched this the day it went up. I just watched it for the third time now, along with the other video of the JJP sit-down interview. So much wisdom in these two videos, it leaves me wanting more from him. Thank you so much Warren! - Ionone
Genuinely inspiring. Lots of psychological insights you don't normally get from producers/engineers as well as the technical stuff. The buss stuff was really interesting. Absolutely excellent. No wonder you hardly spoke, Warren. As someone else said, the hour flashed past. Thanks so much for bringing us this.
Great, great stuff! Loved JJP's use of compression to affect perception of timing (after 40:00+) and the experimentation with LED tubes, thereafter. You two were on a roll!
It is so amazing how passionate he is about EVERYTHING! From his gear to perception of dynamic control...so awesome! The way he is describing dynamic control reminds me of Michael Brauer...They both say it doesn't always work, but when it does it's magic...That's what I wanna figure out...Good Balancing is great, but being able to make a mix move...Gregory Scott is into that too...so cool...I'm curious where JJP has been...all these mixers seem to have been showing up so much, but it was like he was gone for a minute unless I'm trippin... It's funny, in a good way, how he catches himself teaching Warren and then he realizes he's preaching to the choir! So much passion...Awesome guy. I would love to spend an afternoon with him...Thanks for this one
Didn't realize until recently how many of my favorite records he'd done. Jellyfish, Sparklehorse, Weezer's Pinkerton, Belly, Remy Zero, The Grays. He may be my favorite producer.
This really elevated my opinion and respect for this wise man, who seems very much like a proper engineer and has a scientific way of thinking. Thanks a bunch for this Warren. Glad to have this level of information available. As I love to experiment with mic techniques and mixing tricks that I base on by BE studies in radio frequencies and such, this really validated that way of thinking as not being all that crazy.
This fellow is absolutely brilliant, and i am very grateful to the poster for sharing this vid. He took the "process" of studio functionality to higher levels, and in dosing so, revealed the true art of recording. I can easily say, now, that I "understand" the nature and purpose of what goes on in a studio .... or at least, the potential, of what COULD happen. Thanks again.
JJ Puig is an Astounding, deeply expressive, Insightful Genius!!! I love especially hearing how JJ describes sound waves, music, and philosophies for approaching the sound spectrum! Thank Warren!
JJP literally lives in gear heaven, I can’t even imagine what the gear in that room is worth. I also love his descriptions......rainbow of sound...love it!!!!!!!!
What a truly fascinating person! Thank you, thank you, thank you Warren for this tour and especially the interview, and JJP: You are a true evangelist of great music!
Hi Christian Gillmann both are very smart, talented and creative people! He is extremely charismatic and understands people very well, from the moment we walked in he treated everyone equally!
Love this interview, Warren. When you got to the Blonder-Tongue, you mentioned Joe Zook. Back in 1990, I was in a band with Joe and a commercial producer for KLBJ Radio in Austin, very good producer named Allen Hite. This was before Joe went to school for Audio Engineering and we were going to school in Austin and playing gigs. Pretty cool that Joe went on to become the mixer and engineer that he did; it's very cool to hear you name check him in an interview like this. I last saw Joe in 2013 in Austin during SXSW, right before we moved to Florida. Great video-I'm a big fan of your series.
If i could give Warren a present it would be a week of mixing in Puig's crib, dont know anyone who would have more fun in that studio, i dont know where to look even from just looking at this video. CRAZY. Cheers
Thanks Warren and JJ. There's a really good takeaway in this, beyond the gear talk. Do what it takes to make your creative space inspiring for you. Whether it's books on the console or JJ's BLMs ;) ... whatever it takes to make it fun, creative, and comfortable.
Only an hour? How can I watch only an hour? I think I've been spoilt by the 3 hour previous. I won't divulge too much of what went through my mind watching both these vids, except to say it is indeed a world of wonderment, and there is absolutely no denying; music, sound, technology, magic, love, engagement, passion, vision, dedication and perserverance, have all been stirred into the pot and produced a heady mix of everything that's worth doing. Keep that pot hot and stirred. keep doing what youe doing, and please can we have some more? Thank you
Can we be honest with ourselves. I’ve been involuted with recording since 73. I remember how much I wanted a clean signal from mic to tape, I think we all did. I went as far as bouncing a Tascam porta4 to a VCR because it was a digital tape. I’ve alway hear these buzz words like upper harmonics, grit ect. I can take a 15 Band Behringer EQ a DBX 166 comp and add as much (put in buzz word here) that will please any listeners. Then we get the mic snobs, Billy Squire along with Mac producing, recorded “Don’t say no” with using SM57’s on everything including vocals. The music gear manufacturer try to tell us we need this plug-in or the 500 series Neve EQ’s, guess what use your stock plugins and use your imangiation. Talent doesn’t make a plug-in or outboard gear, it’s a gift from God use it to your advantage.
He’s an engineer not a musician. This is their art form.. that’s like telling a guitar player to “shut up and buy a squire.” It’s fine if it’s not an art form to you, or if you don’t care about difference, but others do. A chef knows the exact cut of meat, from the exact farm, fed a specific diet, cured, prepped, and cooked to their specifications. No one is stoping you from eating at Mc Donald’s or denying it tastes good, but don’t shit on the 5 star chef just cuz you’re fine with fast food.
I took your comment a little differently. I think your trying to say that you can get a good sound from many things, it doesn’t matter what piece of gear you have because the best one is the one in front of you. Most of recording greatness comes from the lack of a piece of gear and have to find alternate methods. Happy accidents as Bob Ross says. I agree, we get stuck in this thought that a piece of gear will take us to the next level but it won’t. It’s all about creativity and determination.
Timothy McJury that is exactly what I was trying to get across in my comment. I’m sorry if many people found it disrespectful, that isn’t the way I treat people. Sometimes people including me, read between the lines. In this case there was nothing hidden in my comment. I respect all musician, producers and engineers no matter the genre. I was just saying use what you have at your disposal that’s where the talent shines through.
Thanks so so much for such an amazing conversation between two highly creative, experienced, and mindful artists. I’ve watched this a few times since it came out. I keep coming back to it for healthy dose of inspiration and education. Thanks again!
Thank you very much for this incredible content. Having a veteran of production look at his curated analog equipment and give advice on how to use it based on his personal troubleshooting. It feels like I'm not supposed to see this stuff! GOLD
this was great. love jack. his mixes on jelly fish, black crowes, and especially remy zero....constantly blow me away more than 20 years after i first heard them.
Cool studio and storied owner, of course, One item: I have a bunch of Orange County stuff including their version of the ADR Vocal Stressor (Para EQ plus Comp/Limiter) which is very unique and pretty cool sounding, in spite of being full of shyte old 741 op-amps. I think the comment by JJP about who came "first" is incorrect. As far as I know Orange county (in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada) was sued by ADR for copying their stuff. Copy's? They are even built mechanically the same, typical British over-complicated modular mechanical aspect-haha- takes all day to service them, as a result. I built/ rebuilt British cars and motorcycles as a kid, so I can say that freely...Lucas, anyone?..the only difference I see is rotary vs pushbutton module order of appearance..I bought my OC pieces from a former OC engineer. I rebuilt my OC collection with low noise, high slew rate OP-series opamps, better caps and the noise level is much reduced. Great interview. By the way, that control room must be hot as F**k with all that tube and Class A electronics running all the time.
this is it. Masterclass with the Grand Master. Seems like anything with EMI or RCA stamped on it has got part of the magic and I was always looking for. Or that mix with the time and spaciousness
Yeahhhh! More JJP I absolutely loved the last interview, really changed the way we look at things and approach them. Looking forward to this one. Thank you JJP and Warren
maaan puig gets it!!! your selection of gear that you love and choose or make is a extension of you. I love the way he think. I think similar like that. Record in odd ball ways.
Thank you for the wonderful interview and being a good host. I have been buying a lot of plugins from Waves and Plugin Alliance, and to finally see them in real person, like the actual analog physical products is amazing! Jack Puig is successful because he has insight to himself as a person, his strengths and limitations. Had so much fun listening to him talk about everything. Wow!
Accidentally bumped into this one. What a special treat this was. In a way a whole different approach which give me a lot of homework. I'm trying to figure out another way of hybrid mixing, where this is about the ultimate. Thanks Warren, another great contribution which helps me to understand what I want to achieve.
That was so much fun!! What a great interview and tour!! It's like hanging out with super cool studio friends. His studio is like a shrine of gear...love it. Thanks for posting :)
Gear for gear: no... Gear for having possibilities aka being creative: YES!!! This must be heaven almost, what an inspiring well thought out design and place!!! Congrats for the super studiotour and my deep respect for mister JJP!!!!
In these days I'm listening a lot to Verbena and I was very curious of this interview because of the beauty of the sound of the songs in the album also Puig worked on with them! I couldn't imagine a more beautiful interview! Lot's of respect!
Warren - wow I don't think I ever commented on a video. This is STELLAR. JJP is such a gent.. and comes across as maybe a slightly nervous nutty genius- but you are so gracious- and get him to spill the beans .. and when he drifts off ..wowzers... lovely times where you beautifully bow out and let him cautiously let the cat out of the bag -about bits of one off gear.. wow!! .. you did a fantastic job here to not get too excited??!! in the space ship JJP helios!! Love it. Stuck in Brazil here much love to all everywhere from sunshine land :-)
What studio would you like to tour with me next?
You are welcome to come hang out in my little studio if you are ever in Norway :)
Rafa Sardina Studio please
Electric Lady Studios?
M23 Studio in Wałbrzych, Poland ;p
AL Copper would be great to see if he has a studio..or Muscle Shoals ?? If it's still around..thanks Warren.. You have an awesome channel for all us daydreamers of someday to chase are dreams..
"Studios had a sound" one of the most important things said on any of these tours.
I know the old guy who gave Jack the EMI pre Amps, I worked at Metropolis too, another Superb Studio tour Warren Jack is an amazing guy huge respect
Genius. That final section where Jack is talking about his philosophy of creativity might just be one of the best things ever said on the subject.
Wow! Agreed
Very inspiring!!
I'd really love to watch JJP actually mix. Lots of videos of him talking about his gear that no one will ever be able to obtain, but I'd love to sit and watch him do his thing in real time.
This was one of the best interviews I’ve heard.. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 seem like you all forgot the camera was there.
Hi BENNGIIE yes! We were there the whole day! It was so much fun and so relaxed! JJP was so respectful of all of us and made everyone feel so welcome!
I have so much respect and love for JJP, even more so after meeting and studying with him at MWTM in 2014 in France. He is a magician, a wizard, and an alchemist of sound all rolled into one. A great teacher and a kind man.
I imagine every time JJP sits in here and turns it all on there's some type of electrical surge on the grid.
I don't think it is ever turned down actually, just so the gears stays at a stable temperature... I mean, the valve density in this room is nuts...
It's really heartwarming to see Warren being humbled in a nice and positive way at the end by Jack. :)
An hour went by in a flash. Wonderful interview, for the history books.
Hi Nuxo Espinheira thanks ever so much my friend!!
In an era where all we hear is “ follow the science” isn't it wonderful to listen to two guys talking about leading the science!!
Seeing this in 2024 is great. Love this so much.
This is simply amazing! When Jack gets into the relations of time dynamics as such is relative to how other parts fall into their places within a mix, is the knowledge of experience that is worth its weight in gold. I flat out love this installment of PLAP.
I usually have a lot to say, I just want to say, JJP has a beautiful mind! digging it
Insecurity is an important topic. Doubt is a potent enemy. And I usually associate it with performance. Your episodes have made me go back and make some of my songs better, and that feels like belief.
Warren the studio doesn't matter. It's the passion, imagination and genius of whoever owns it.
Thanks ever so much for saying that! I agree, JJP is inspirational to talk with!
I'm a Hip Hop and R&B producer/mix engineer. I don't think that I've heard an artist articulate this well, on the engineering side of things! Jack Joseph Puig is a very inspirational. His amount of gear is amazing too!
Hey Warren!

39:30 "i wont go into a lengthy thing about compression."
*Proceeds to talk about compression in a very lengthy and absolutely amazing way that I have neverrrrr heard omg thanks so much for this. The gear porn is one thing but learning the insider philosophies/knowledge is really why I watch these studio tours

The way to place thing related to the grid with the compressor is such a cool concept. Thanks, Jack!
Yes! That really stuck with me.
Guys like this are a dying breed. I would love to be his assistant. In 2 years working with any of the old Masters you probably can learn alot more and faster about the craft compared to 2 years of recording school
Agreed! A total gentleman as well!
I absolutely love this interview. I really identify with JJP and his thought process behind processing, workflow, philosophy, all of it.
I watched this the day it went up. I just watched it for the third time now, along with the other video of the JJP sit-down interview. So much wisdom in these two videos, it leaves me wanting more from him. Thank you so much Warren! - Ionone
that room is PACKED
Those RCA Monitors.... WOW! Such a cool studio & man who lives to make beautiful music. His Jellyfish work is a testament to his magic.
This guy is not your regular every day sound studio guy. Wow. That was the the definition of unexpected.
This is the music production channel of the year. The best channel for audio by miles.
Great episode! I really liked listening to JJP talking about"wonder" and creativity near the end of the interview.
Great, great stuff! Loved JJP's use of compression to affect perception of timing (after 40:00+) and the experimentation with LED tubes, thereafter. You two were on a roll!
40.00 just blew my mind, like of course, step your game up, next level. I love/hate school days.
This dude is the only guest I have seen that chats more than Warren does. Jack likes to talk, man!
The magic of making and capturing music. EXCELLENT VIDEO
The best rap session ive seen yet! Puig is the Willy Wonka of the studio! Loved it! "Imagination"
Heck all I can say is I loved this one and learned heaps so thank you to you both legends!
Thanks ever so much my friend!
BEST ONE EVER MATE.
Thanks ever so much!!

JJP literally lives in gear heaven, I can’t even imagine what the gear in that room is worth. I also love his descriptions......rainbow of sound...love it!!!!!!!!
I can only assume he has one hellacious air conditioning system to keep that room full of tubes and transformers comfortable
What a truly fascinating person! Thank you, thank you, thank you Warren for this tour and especially the interview, and JJP: You are a true evangelist of great music!
Amazing. Loved this. JJP is amazing to listen too. Love his compassion. Many thanks to you both for this wonderful tour. Really enjoyed it.
The biggest legend in audio for me! So many great records produced and mixed by this man
Great interview and super interesting...Love all that huge amount of vintage gear too..."We're gunna need a bigger boat!"
Genius! JJ Puig`s way of expressing himself reminds me a lot of Martin Scorsese.
They each have a similar delivery and rhythm to their speech.
Hi Christian Gillmann both are very smart, talented and creative people! He is extremely charismatic and understands people very well, from the moment we walked in he treated everyone equally!
Hi Kris Klekosky agreed!!
Wow....JJP the Master engineer, "Ableton may be the best sounding DAW".I may be investing in Ableton 🤤
Awesome interview
Informative. Inspiring. Convincing. That’s Jack Joseph Puig, the most lucid mad scientist ever. Nicely handled, Warren. Timing being everything.
Thanks ever so much Shawn
2 Unbelivable. Soundphilosophers. Amazing
Hi Valomat thanks ever so much my friend!

Loved Jacks Philosophies. We are all kids in the candy-bar when we bring the right attitude - Great interview - thanks !
Just when I think the videos can’t get better, I find another PLAP video that rocks!
What an awesome inspiration, I learn so much from you guys and not just technical, thanks and keep up the good work
LOVE IT!!!!!!!! WELL DONE BOTH OF YOU!
Gotta love Jack ...what a wonderful character!
Thanks Warren and JJ. There's a really good takeaway in this, beyond the gear talk. Do what it takes to make your creative space inspiring for you. Whether it's books on the console or JJ's BLMs ;) ... whatever it takes to make it fun, creative, and comfortable.

Pure poetry, a genuine artist !

Barefoots👍👍Glad to hear the endorsement from this very experienced talented gentleman!!
I've got to get the footprints 01.
Thanks so so much for such an amazing conversation between two highly creative, experienced, and mindful artists. I’ve watched this a few times since it came out. I keep coming back to it for healthy dose of inspiration and education. Thanks again!
Oh, sick. I really loved the JJP interview. Makes me feel good about being a hobby/experimentalist.
Richard James yes, the shear people are that my friend!! Experimentation is the key!!
Thank you very much for this incredible content. Having a veteran of production look at his curated analog equipment and give advice on how to use it based on his personal troubleshooting. It feels like I'm not supposed to see this stuff! GOLD
JJP is a very artistic dude...amazing interview Warren..THANK YOU BOTH!
Hi Blue Matrix thanks ever so much!!
JJP is a living legend my fav PLP studio tour yet!!!!!!
The bit about the stereo bus is golden
I could listen to JJP talk all day long! Great interview Warren :)

Wow!
Wonderful tour and talk thank you sooo much!
Hi David Allen Hammond tanks ever so much my friend!!
Accidentally bumped into this one. What a special treat this was. In a way a whole different approach which give me a lot of homework. I'm trying to figure out another way of hybrid mixing, where this is about the ultimate. Thanks Warren, another great contribution which helps me to understand what I want to achieve.
Thanks ever so much! Really glad you enjoyed this!
That was so much fun!! What a great interview and tour!! It's like hanging out with super cool studio friends. His studio is like a shrine of gear...love it. Thanks for posting :)
Just beautiful. I'm amazed and speechless.
Heaven!!!!!! I’m Speechless.
Great ep! He seems very humble and down to earth.
Amazing. Thanks Mr Puig, and Warren. Must be the best spent 4 hours in a long time.
Thank you guys so much for this amazing view at this legend!!!
Gear for gear: no... Gear for having possibilities aka being creative: YES!!! This must be heaven almost, what an inspiring well thought out design and place!!! Congrats for the super studiotour and my deep respect for mister JJP!!!!
Warren you are my hero!
Another fabulous bunch of insight into the way it's done. THANK YOU BOTH!
Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow! The ending bit about vibe, mood, space, inspiration and creativity ❤️✨
Great, thanks! I was hoping for that episode, after your extended conversation.
Thanks JJP and Warren! Interesting experiment there, about the colors in the tubes.
He is an amazing teacher! Did not know that. Thank you so much for this.
