I'm kind of new in this block but I'm learning so much from every single time I watch the show. I've been a guitarist (mainly rock) for years and now I'm entering this world of sound engineering and I'm absolutely amazed by it. Thanks for making this journey so enjoyable.
And the transient designer turned all the way (no attack, full release) as a parallel is magical. On background vocals and percussion it allows for less level and more clarity, without it sounding distant. Kind of like using a real piano instead of a sampled one. You get a sense of air and harmonic content. Great technique.
The 441 works great on snare. Being hypercardioid, if you are careful (the back end is more sensitive than in a cardioid, and there´s is a roll-off that has to be disengaged) you get great separation. The smack and tone are fantastic.
I think I found the triangle on Bad Religion's "New Maps of Hell": The song "Requiem for Dissent", second chorus, during the third shout of the word "REQUIEM!"
I'm more of a hip hop head but a friend of mine put me on to him about a year ago. Man, what a talent....Imagine Devin (my bad for the earlier misspell) on here with Dave and Herb...
Definitely a huge influence on how I mix rock music! Love me some Barresi. I wish he would talk more about the Fair to Midland record he did. I love everything about that record but the drums. They aren't what I had come to expect from the band and from Joe. I'm really curious to know what he did differently and if it was a band/Joe decision or if I'm just hearing things
Hey Dave!!! I've watched EVERY show so far! Love what you are doing! Would you ever have the chance to bring Max Martin, Hans Zimmer or Mike Shinoda on the show? :) Have a Great 2013 from England! :D
Hey guys! Lovin all the shows, kind of addicted! one of my favorite engineers/mixers is Gabriel Roth of Daptone Records. If you ever get to NY look him up. He's got some great philosophy on not only recording but music in general. Seems like a great fit for your show! keep up the awesome work
great show...would be cool to have dr.luke or max matin or ric ruben also very cool to have in depth plug in tricks and tips like when you guys did Ozone 5 ...it even influenced me to but ozone lol!! keep on rocking
Wow! Joe B. was on. This is like a better version of episode #146 that just happened. They talked about a lot of the same stuff but the answers were a lot more in depth, I think Joe must have been in a better mood or mental state.
Dear Pensado's Place, This post is to ask you to force Andy Wallace to come on your show. The man is a magician, and very secretive so far. Thanks! Anthony P.
Another superb episode! Here's my wish list of guests: Dave Cooley, for his work with the late, great J Dilla and Madlib. So Dave.....That mic placement question was brilliant. You're approach to asking questions is approaching a jedi master. Kudos.
