BlackBerry KEY2 Review: 3 Reasons It's My Next Phone
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 чер 2018
- The flagship BlackBerry in 2018 is a sleek, slab-sided smartphone with a design from the future - and a keyboard from the past. I say in the narration that the BlackBerry KEY2 probably won’t be your next smartphone, and based purely on buying habits in 2018 that's probably true. The thing is, it will be my next phone - and I’m gonna do this review a little differently by telling you the three reasons why. Join me for the MrMobile BlackBerry KEY2 Review!

"A genius use of space" - well done Mr. Mobile, well done ;)
Every tech reviewer: uploads blackberry key 2 video
Me: Skips them all, heads straight over to Mr Mobile 👌🏽

MellFromUA-cam I am not even subscribed to others.
Same here.
This is exactly what I did ..skipped around 7 other reviews to come here !!
Always sure of high quality content in a well-edited upload of a surviveable length. Some of this stuff in the 15-30 minute window is death.
I love my keyone, and I know I want a key2, but what I really really want is a passport 2.0 that can do the android - I loved that little tank. Please, Blackberry bring us a new passport !!
The Passport was the best phone ever.
hahaha...exactly what i want to.
Hi, I have 3 questions which I would appreciate if you could provide any feedback. 1) Does the Blackberry Key1 have voice texting? 2) Is Whatsapp supported? and 3) can Blackberry contacts from the Torch, backed up by Blackerry Desktop Softeware, be restored/transferred onto the Blackberry Key1? Thanks, Ronnie
joey_rooklyn my IPhone 6s felt like a toy compared to my passport silver edition. Which was more like a handheld computer.
Great review. You let everyone know that you are a fan and talk about where the phone rocks for you. But you don't discount its faults or pretend that your use case is the same as everyone else's. Really balanced but with personality.
True
Michael Fisher The Fisher KING keeping it hot unbiased and in Mr Mobile style. Pity I only found this channel this year and it's been great so far. Better than most way better.
Bordnick Gold I wouldn’t say entirely unbiased, but sure.
Arrad to be fair we are talking about a person here and everyone has that one brand they prefer. Give credit where credit is due.

As a couple others have mentioned, you are probably my favorite Android reviewer; your delivery method, your easy-going attitude, your more conversational tone, your je ne sais quis.
Your videos are truly unique. The pauses, your tone, the calm vibe. I love it, keep it up!!!
It's hard not to fall in love with his eloquence.
I have just one thing to say...why the hell you have only 600k subs... Bro You deserves 6M subs..Keep it up Michael...No one can match your quality..Love From India..
Techno Ruhez bhai aap yaha ?? Aap ko vi best of luck hame v mr. Mobile ki tarha aap ki chennal pe hindi me video chahiye quality 🔥
Many people still don't know he has a seperate channel.
Well, he has 1 million now
It's April 2019 and I sure took my time to make my mind up, but I just took the plunge, and I had to rewatch this wonderful (as always) review. Looking forward to getting my thumbs over that keyboard any day now :^)
I am in love whit you'r rewievs. I've been watching since the day one you wen't chasing solo carere here on youtube, and was even fortunate enough to get a keyone from you. I think this is the pinical of you'r reviews and can't hope to see how will legacy of Blackbery continue to grow ower the years to come.
Man your reviews are so awesome I follow other mobile tech specialist but your are the best keep it up
Besides having to deal with people's constant "is BlackBerry still around? digs, you have to own the KEY2 mindset. My experience has been that it's about productivity first, long-form docs/ blog post and reaching less for your laptop where you crave that tic tic keyboard. Its now on the phone. The camera is not horrible but certainly not great. For the insta-snapchat-gen wanting the latest iPhone, it doesn't compete. But its not the market they are after. Most tech media forgets that. This is very business first and oh, it can also be used to insta your cappuccino. Always love to see your perspective!
RagingUtai and that's what I said on my channel too 😉
RagingUtai This is not the best all arounder. It is the best for you, not for everyone. The sales will prove that.
"Don't be fooled by reviewers ... This is the best all round phone"
daydreaming nightdreaming Just like with anything niche, they aren't supposed to sell like "the big players." Those players you mention try to target as many people as possible by all selling you the fastest phone with the best screen and highest quality camera and so on. Everything I see that happens with Apple or Samsung or whatever all amount to the same things with differences amounting to gimmicky things like changing your face into some kind of cartoon animal or some such.
What I've noticed about every BlackBerry phone I've ever used is that two things always seem to take priority: productivity and security. Generally speaking, their screen isn't as good as the supposed competition, nor is the camera, nor is the media/game capabilities. What is usually better are things like battery life and efficiency in doing things while wrapping it all in a security focused blanket.
Maybe BlackBerry could have done the shotgun approach had they done things differently earlier on, but I'm actually glad they didn't. Being in the position they're in forces them to take a more focused approach. That approach isn't going to be on the media-centric users. They get that from every other phone on the planet. They aren't going to target the selfie artists or other budding photographers. They already tried that and it didn't really work. The absolute biggest thing anyone goes to BlackBerry for is their physical keyboard. A physical keyboard encompasses an entire mindset of functionality over fashion. Those who want to type more accurately, who want shortcuts or the ability to type without looking, who want feedback of each press so they know for certain they actually typed something. Not many people care about that stuff. typng w bad spllng & grammar not 4 bb users. That is for everyone else who uses a touch screen. BlackBerry users care about communication and security, about productivity on the go. I could care less if I can't watch a youtube video at 4k resolution on my phone or take better photos than my competition on Instagram or be able to take that slow motion video of whatever. I barely watch youtube on my phone and I use Instagram almost never, or any other social media offering for that matter. My social media includes phone calls, SMS, BBM with my family, and shaking another person's hand. I manage bills and expenses. I email and research and I educate myself. The physical keyboard helps me do all those things much more efficiently and accurately and why I continue to be a BlackBerry fan today.
when you upload to any social media it tries to give the users the best quality based on the bandwidth. I could film in 4k and upload to UA-cam, but most people will see it at 720p on their phone.
Yes. Because I want a DIFFERENT experience. Everyone else is just trying to be 'top notch'
Fingerprint scanner on Space bar is genius and the scrolling too.
Have you used one? Is the scrolling as faulty as people say?
@@derricksearles610 If it works like the scrolling on the Priv key it is just perfect!
@@derricksearles610 yes the scrolling on the keyones keyboard is not smooth like that on a passport. Its sometimes glitchy. Sometimes the screen starts behaving as if it's getting the scroll input from the keyboard, if there is a little bit of dust on the keyboard.
Best review out there. Loved this type of review. Kudos to mentioning useful info such as typing with one hand
I own and love the KEYone and will definitely get the KEY2 as well, my reasons are
* The Keyboard: It is uniquely satisfying, it may not be faster in perfect English, but it is certainly faster if you write a lot of symbols or stuff like that
* The Experience: I love the Blackberry Ecosystem and haven't found something better than the Hub or the BB Calender
* Battery life: I don'T need a gaming CPU in a smartphone, I want it snappy enough to not annoy me but more than anything else I don't want to think about charging my device during the day
* Looks: In a world where nearly all smartphones look alike, this is a welcome diversion :)
So after a year of loving my KEYone I'll switch over to the KEY2 :)
Blackberry was my first cell phone as well! I LOVED IT!
love tech vids... yours are consistently well done and enjoyable to watch... keep it up!
Another great review Michael. I enjoyed the new approach.
It looks incredible
Starting to realise how much time I waste correcting my own typos brought me here. This one's a contender.
Your reviews are so good wow ♥️ keep up the good work man 🙌
Hey, I try to live the two phone lifestyle myself, with an iphone 5s and a blackberry keyone. @mrmobile how do you rectify having two numbers or do you have one?
I love blackberry a lot.
When is the key3 is going to be launched.
I've gotten almost every BlackBerry since my Bold 9900 and I'm still going to keep that up! The keyboard, the overall design of the phones, the security, the nostalgia; just too many things to let go. I don't game on my phone, I see it as a communication tool and BlackBerry always satisfies that for me. The few times I've ever had any issues, the BB team has always provided great help (unlike some other companies) so #BlackBerryAlways
I was 13 when I got my first blackberry, hated that I couldn't do the same as what you did. Bold 3 still have that lil dude.
BlackBerry mobile hardware is dead.
It is TCL Chinese!
I like the background music from Mr. Mobile video reviews. Thumbs-up
would you use it as a primary phone? I'm deciding between this (well, key2 LE) and Sony XZ2 Compact. Thanks!
I got a Blackberry Key2 ad before your video. Seems legit.
James Spencer Ha! Seems like UA-cam targeting is doing its job. I have no control over what AdSense does.
Thanks for the reply man!!Supplementary question, have you thought about taking a look at the Acer Switch 3/5?
Nah, I don't play with Acer stuff too much. You never know, though; thanks for the suggestion!
Just ordered mine. Super excited to kick this iPhone X to the dust :D
Lol
Forflies lol
Forflies I cannot buy it becas I em use to > key board 😞💔
Highly doubt that will happen, nice joke tho
chemicalsam ???
Liked the format of this review! You get a like.
Hello. Nice video. Which launcher or skin are you using on your key2 ? Thanks
Ordered Silver and Black!
How about this key2 in 2023?
I'm using one in 2024, and for a light user like me, it's fine. A little slow sometimes but if you have a smidge of patience it's not a problem. I imagine it would struggle with anything more than the social media apps and web browser that is basically all I use it for though.
Using it right now, and I don't really see how its slow at all. It works incredibly well for me!
@@ivanthemountainman9291
I guess it depends on what you want to use it for - if you're just trying to make calls, texts and emails it's perfectly snappy. But if you're trying to have more than a couple tabs open in a web browser, or use just about any social media app, etc. it lags pretty badly compared to a more recent model of phone. Not unusable, just not exactly quick and getting less so all the time.
@@ivanthemountainman9291does it still work for calls/SMS?
Solid review - the real why's and why not's for the KEY2.
As always it was a very detailed review. Amazing job :)
This guy remind me of Robert Downey Jr.
Hmmm, this is a possible contender when I'm ready to replace my Note 8. Really miss the hardware keyboard !
Excellent video as always!
The main reason a watch your reviews is the way you present them... Very poetic; you have just the perfect word for all situations. Lovely. I'll work to perfect my diction... If the stars align 😊😊
Now is Jul, 2019. That is the phone in my dream. I am saving money to buy this....
Waiting on passport 2
I know I'm late but all I want is another passport running android
@@ordinarygamer1353 i know!! any idea if its coming early or late 2020? or do we still have to wait a whole other year... :(
@@MrXDr3AMZx I'm afraid it's not coming:/ I don't have any concrete details but it doesn't make any sense that it would make a comeback :/ I do think that the key3 will come 2020 though. So I'm holding out hope for that and I plan on getting that if it does! But the passport is definitely not coming back. It's nice to hope for it but let's be realistic there's no real market for it. So it's not coming back:/
I'm hoping, but most certainly not gonna be holding my breath for that one #TeamPassport2
Paul Simjay Blackberry announced they will stop producing phones from August 2020 and won‘t develop new phones so RIP Blackberry😢
What a marvellous job you have done reviewing the phone! I have been a huge fan of Blackberries for as long as I can remember, but after trying the Priv, I ditched the whole idea of having a Blackberry running on Android! Instead of the Blackberry experience that I have always loved I got the Android experience that I have always hated on every phone running Android that I have had. I have got myself Blackberry Classic and I could not be happier! Plus, it runs all the android apps that I need flawlessly. I may even get Blackberry passport, that is how much the new Blackberries made me lust for the last echo of the true Blackberry that I loved.
I need some advice. i would like to get the key2 now (2020). are there any blackberry phones due for release in 2020? or should i go for they key2. I am extremely impressed by it to be honest.
I’ll have to ask this early on despite you probably already thinking of it; please do a 6-months long term review to see how the software and the phone in general held up with time.
And when you used Nova, did that disable the keyboard shortcuts? if yes, was it on the home screen only or even when you pressed the Utility button (or whatever it’s called) in apps?
Omar El Garhy On the key2 the shortcuts work anywhere compared to the key1 where you had to be on their launcher home screen.
Jake Kimball Thank you.
The shortcuts do work anywhere and with any launcher ... but ONLY when pressing the Speed Key.
thank you for this reply. I will delete my question I just posted.
The Key2 will be my next phone because I am not a fan of a notch, or a beezless display and I find myself wanting to use a physical keyboard more. It feel proper when I use a keyboard, even when using small ones, that I have. Plus, the battery life is a big push for me. I can get phones with better battery life, but the specs are just not as good if you go that way, from the phones I would get, if not this one. Another push is the headphone jack. I can use my paypal card reader with it.
Nice
Great review!!!.. Watching from my blackberry keyone
4:14 Tony Stark is hitting us with the people’s eyebrow....easily the most electrifying tech reviewer on UA-cam
And then you compare the pictures the Pixel 2 takes against the p20 pro, especially in night mode.... So three phones it is? ;-)
Just got me another at&t bold 9900 love it just like my torch/2 9650 bolds/bold 9000 & bold 9930 I had years ago.
Another great review. Thank you!
I love how this looks
i do have a concern though.
Can you map the keys for games? Cause they would get in the way whilst playing smth like an fps or something.
I literally had a blackberry ad on this phone before this video. I am not kidding.
Kshitij Kumar Same
Kshitij Kumar So What?
Imagine if they would have made a bezelless smartphone and you slid up to reveal the keyboard and down to reveal the selfie camera. HUGE missed opportunity.
Blackberry idiots listen you have three masterclass designs .. 1.BB Porsche design 2. BB Passport 3.BB Classic (evergreen). Try to release android variants with latest hardware cameras n securities features n you people are back in the game.
A proud BB Passport Silver owner.
BB Os is best mobile os still.
I'm still with the blackberry keyone and don't plan on leaving it.....
Is it as slow as he makes it out to be? Can't afford the key2 so thinking of grabbing the black edition
Atishay Sinha keyone has the same processor as a Nokia 6.1 ,but with 4gb ram. It's not very fast but keyboard makes up for it .however after using it for a year ,my keyboard spacebar sometimes doesn't works well. But it's working good from last 3 days .and ten battery is a beast. 9 hours on screen time .
I would still buy a modern day blackberry if it would feature virtual onscreen navigation buttons and uses really all the remaining space in the front for the display - not a blacked out brick above the keyboard that could host a whole row of keys… Just something as good as the blackberry passport with android
The voice of reviews...Love your style!
Good review. Well summarized.
Liked the swipe feature on keyboard. Makes it good for one handed use. That was something I wanted.
SD 660 looks to perform pretty well on the Key2. Hope it doesn't show down like the Key1.
Speed launcher is a killer feature.
If only, it was priced $150 lesser, the drawbacks wouldn't have mattered.
Waiting for the phone to show up on Swappa or Holiday sales.
I prefer Blackberry for the same reason. The KEYBOARD 😊 Although I would prefer a more compact size like BlackBerry Bold 9900.
Speaking of which, did you know that BlackBerry CEO proposed an idea of reviving BB Bold 9900? 😍
Actually the keyboards on keyone/key2 are modelled with classic and bolds kept in mind.
I'd totally buy this if it wasn't for the price. I can deal with the camera especially, given I have and carry with me a decent point and shoot anyway, and none of the other issues really bother me. But 650 is high, and I don't have money...
AdamIsTalking yea blackberry is always "to confident" with its pricing. The only phones from blackberry i bought were blackberry 8520 and z10 (after the price drop, it was $300)
I would honestly buy this with a low end processor and worse camera if it meant getting it for a much lower price. I simply cant bring myself to spend more than $300 on a smartphone.
I couldn't afford more than £300 even if I wanted to... But if they did something along the same lines of the Moto G series, I think it'd do surprisingly well.
It is a high price point, but when you look at the DTEK50 it is still getting updates. How many sub $300 phones are still getting security updates?
Michael Duffy only security updates for 2 years since its release. No OS upgrade.
How is your experience so far? is this also slowed down like KeyOne?
5:55 That beer looks amazing!
It'll only be my next phone if it's sold by T-Mobile. I'm only willing to pay around $500 out of pocket for a phone. Anymore than that and it gets financed.
Kenn Hadnot better takes the oneplus 6
Took the words right out my mouth as far price and preferred T-Mobile interest free financing. If it has wireless charging and possibly an OLED/AMOLED screen, I wouldn't mind paying retail.
Kenn Hadnot why? I paid $1,200 for my X lol
I like how you think, I'm not paying no more than 600 for a phone anymore
I think I will take that approach thx
It's a phone for secret agents basically.
Unless that secret agent gets caught and needs to pull a gun with one of his hands while trying to send a secret message, which leaves one less thumb to type on that hardware keyboard.
Warren Mingrajal there is an undrafted rule among secret agents "NEVER SLING AND TYPE"
TRINITRON TV You never know when they have to "cross the streams."
Excellent review of this device! .. I'm sticking to my BB KeyOne, thanks.
Appreciate your honest appraisal. Well done - as always.
What about priv 2 -_-
They'd have to update the original first.
I wish they release the passport with Android on it
Con.D. Oriano it would be sooooo laggy
The PRIV 2 is what I'm waiting for too!
AZ3R ABDI The Second that thing is announed this iPhone X is being replaced. I loved the Priv but it just cant keep up anymore. No fingerprint, micro usb, marshmallow... Just a rerelease with smaller bezels, front facing speakers and face ID would me enough for me
Ok so if you're gonna carry the pixel in your other pocket what's the point of the phone?
RoseWolfz Prime lol what do you mean privacy?
Mr Mobile, you are the effen man! Your videos are so thoughtfully produced and created. Thanks for all you do, your future is bright!
Thank you for your vidéo which did learn me some new features about thé key2 despite the numerous other vidéos I have already seen. ..
Could you please tell us if there is some whole phone encryption possibilities ?
disabling HUB, lol? you are not a true BlackBerry user after all
That hub thing is the greatest piece of sh** ever in terms of performance and usability. A blackberry S50, which was absolute crap and ended up eating it's BIOS or something, and then a Motion was forced on me as a phone for work. Now I installed the Outlook app and everything is fine for me except I cant deactivate the Hub because of admin stuff...
He looks like Tony stark🤔
Nice review on Key2. Ive used a Blackberry the past 20 years, loved the 9810 Torch but they never increased the keyboard until the Priv and Key2 though then they left the Blackberry Operating system which still is superior for business, ease of use, etc though they never advanced on the technology. Having succumbed to exit their Blackberry OS for the Android OS on Key2, does the Key2 offer Talk/Voice-activated Texting? Also is WhatsApp supported on the Key2 as I communicate with Latin America often . Im interested in the Key 2 but I was hoping to have these 2 extra features that seem nice. Thanks for any feedback. Ron
I have the KeyOne Black Edition (64gb). Would you suggest I trade up to the Key2? Thanks.
it's one of those phones that you want so bad and when you buy it you realize that you made a huge mistake
I never regret that I have bought K1.. no slow downs and it´s just doin´ things done :)
No regrets buying my KeyOne. No other phone like it on the market, except the Key2 of course
Why, you mean the weird screen aspect ratio?
I have the priv and it's the best of both worlds, I wish Blackberry made a new priv.
It's price definitely gonna drop down to $450-500 but it still too much
sushant tiwari
I think 450$ is perfect price fr a sd660 phn with physical keyboard.......
I doubt $450 - $550... I literally waited for the KeyOne hoping for a price drop around the holidays. Nothing.
sushant tiwari This phone is not for you. Go home and get a different one.
B. Cherry look around on amazon. I got a Keyone black edition for 500 after tax (CAD) from marketplace, and they ended up sending me a new one.
Muzzamil Ahmad .... get an iPhone X. That’s a good deal!
Great review I was waiting for this one! Ill say it again, I love that it looks like the Passport SE little brother!! Great design choice!
How is Key2 a year later? Any noticeable slowdowns? My Priv wen't from Hero to Zero in one year.
2:35 PAUSE!!!
Sounds more like 13 reasons why
Top-notch review as always. Thanks!
I would like to know is this Keytwo will have lagging problems same as Keyone ?
Maybe a dumb question, but say I wanted to go from iPhone to bbry... would I have to manually enter in each contact I’ve built up for awhile and stored in iCloud?
Nice review! Just curious, +MrMobile how do you physically carry around 2 phones? Like do you carry one in each pocket; one in a pocket and one in a holster/bag; etc.?
This is an excellent video review.
Michael, my biggest concern about the Key2 is its cellular signal strength. The KeyOne I owned for a short time had serious signal strength issues. Can you confirm this is fixed in the 2?
Great review!
Also can Blackberry contacts from the 9810, backed up by Blackerry Desktop Softeware, be restored/transferred onto the Blackberry Key2? Thanks again, Ron
A fan and a reviewer in the same time. Welldone Mr. Fisher, welldone.👏
Mr Mobile’s take on smartphones are different. So informative and subtle that doesn’t mock the other company. A genuine person on UA-cam is hard to find and he is one of them, a true 💎
How’s the call quality and data network connection? What carrier were you on? Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it.
@mrmobile What email app are you using? I see the icon in the movie the blue envelope (not the gmail one ;) ) ..What's the name of it? Thanks :)
Been using a key 2 for 3 months now and I love it
Do you think that i will face the same slowdown that i have faced in the key1 after the first year of use,
Michael, another satisfying review..
How about music playback capabilities? Does it have a dedicated DAC/amp? I loved the Blackberry Passport but changed it because the music playback wasn't as good as the LG G5 or V20 or HTC 10.
Still using my Priv and loving it. Will likely upgrade to this soon though
Mr. Mobile, very much enjoyed your review! Bier recommendation and question below:
For me the Key2 is in the running as my L950XL continues to age. , (also considering, Sony XZ2 , Nokia 7+, Z3 play, V30, U12+). Battery life, ergo, audio and camera are key for me. I was fortunate enough to play with a pre-release Key2 at the NYC pop up event, loved the key2, but the camera vs my phone left alot to be desired , again non-ideal enviornment & pre-release software,
Question: Yes still early days but given your understanding, would you anticipate some key moves from BB on the software side to assuage some of the less than stellar camera output ( a la Essential Ph1, Razer phone, Pixel) and other quirks?
any plans to test w. Pixel HDR+ camera as well?
Gracias!
that more BB videos to come cliffhanger !
Bier recommendation: I saw that Chimay!, check out gouden carolus classic or Gulden Draak , if you haven't already!
Hey Michael. I don't know if you see these comments on older videos but what are your thoughts on this phone today? I'm considering replacing my phone and this is looking tempting right now.
