    I'm returning to the Viggen, in anticipation of the Kola map release, and just wanted to tell @Bunyap, that this video series is still as useful and enjoyable as it was 7 years ago. I'm still subscribed to his channel, in the hope that he will someday return to it, as I truly miss his unique style of sharing his learning process. Cheers, from Chile.

    i love this series, i went and binge watched your whole test flight playlist on the mig-21 last night, awesome stuff man, keep it up

    Thorough and very detailed 'not-a-tutorial' as usual! The Viggen looks like great fun, really looking forwards to more videos in this series.

    Great video! Have seen and filmed the real AJS-37 for several times at airshows. One of my absolute favorite fighter aircraft. Love the shape and sound.:-)

    Not even gonna lie, I will be the first one to burn out the thrust reverser and ingest exhaust gas, by backing the plane up to check out some Swedish girl at the side of the apron. Hahha.

    This looks so good. I agree the cockpit is one of the nicest we have seen aesthetically. Also, I appreciate you're recording using good old trackir. I appreciate your playing experience is better with VR, but from a selfish point of view as a viewer, it is much better like this currently.

    This aircraft is awesome. I only fly the A-10 but this aircraft is going to change that. Love everything about it.

  • @Mattebubben
    @Mattebubben 7 років тому +1

    The aircraft was designed to very easy to fly at slow speeds and to land due to the Swedish Doctrine of using Road bases.
    Some of whom where very narrow (Narrowestroad bases only had 8m wide strip with the more common widht being 12-16m)
    with Trees close on either side
    (atleast 4-8m on each side of the runway so some of the narrowest road bases only had about 16-20m between the Trees)
    so it had to be stable and easy to land to make it practical.

    Wasn't all that interested in the Viggen from other promo material, but after watching this I might have to go for it. I always enjoy your content, Bunyap, thank you.
    The whole time I was wondering if you were going to end up using the thrust reverser to back it up, that was cool ;]

    Fun fact, when the gear is down and the wheels hutch the RAT (Ram Air Turbine) deploys
    automatically (left side, mid fuselage). As a guess I think the reason for the
    problems with the remote controlled missiles are that you flew to high. Have heard
    from a former Viggen pilot that when they practised over water and passed shippes
    at mach 0,5 - 0,7 it wasn’t uncommon that they were below the altitude of the ships superstructure/bridg.

    • @RaXXha
      @RaXXha 7 років тому +3

      Viggen standard operating altitude was aproximately 10 meters ASL when flying over water, so thats certainly possible. Although the Rb 05 was probably rarely fired from that height as usually a popup would be done before firing most weapons. :P

    I'll have to get this aircraft. Running some high speed "wild weasel" missions might be fun in this aircraft. I need a change of pace and ideology from the now too easy ground pounding in the A-10C.

    • @bennylofgren3208
      @bennylofgren3208 7 років тому +1

      FirstDagger They are sturdy, on purpose. They are designed to be able to handle a steep carrier-style no-flare approach with a high sink rate down all the way to the runway. Remember, the Viggen was designed to operate from 800 m stretches of highway. That also means the landing gear could be uses as extra speed brakes, so they could be coming in fast making the landing phase, when it would be very vulnerable to attack, as short as possible.

  • @bones10145
    @bones10145 7 років тому

    I'm guessing you're just supposed to fly straight and level while that missile is flying since you have to use your stick hand to steer it.

  • @revenger681
    @revenger681 7 років тому

    Would it be easier to fire the missile, then hit the auto pilot and use f6 so you could look through the missiles point of view to steer it? Also, how'd you get early access before the early access date?

    You missed one important part of the HUD, either for yourself or in your explanations.
    During the approach phase, the "rudder" of the FPM marker shows you your AOA (12 or 15 depending on mode). The game is to align the "rudder" with the FPM, the FPM with the steering dot, and the steering dot with the runway.
    If the rudder is high you're too fast (AOA low) and vice versa.

    • @Dennree99
      @Dennree99 7 років тому

      Robert Borjesson really? I thought the position of the rudder line indicated the speed trend.

    • @Robert-nz2qw
      @Robert-nz2qw 7 років тому

      H171001 it shows early/late in Nav mode. And slow/fast in Landing. And some other uses i don't know on the top of my head in attack modes.
      It's a unique and simple system that's still in use in the Gripen

  • @neohelios77

    Hi Bunyap, thank you for demo'ing this in VR. Can you please tell us if the HUD is crazy-zoomed-in when playing with the Oculus like it is in the A-10C? Thanks again for the great videos!

    • @JNelson_
      @JNelson_ 7 років тому +1

      I would assume that it is okay because the mig21 from LN is fine, the A-10 is the only module I have an issue with, They have it so that you are sat on top of the stick for it to display properly, the A-10 is the only module with this problem so I would assume the Viggen is just fine.

    • @Eddy3443
      @Eddy3443 7 років тому

      Partly Cloudy I've never had that problem with the a 10c in vr. on a vive btw.

    • @JNelson_
      @JNelson_ 7 років тому

      it is a result of wanting to sit back, for some reason ED has designed the hud to be viewed from the position of over the stick, hence sitting back effectively magnifies the hud compared to the frame and you can't see it, so it is either sit on top of the stick and not have problems or sit where you should be sitting and not be able to see the hud

    Is DCS better in VR or TrackIR? Please.

    • @RaXXha
      @RaXXha 7 років тому

      It depends, the readability of the instruments suffers in VR right now due to the resolution of the VR headsets displays, but the immersion is obviously greatly enhanced. TrackIR doesn't have the issue of readability, but you get no depth perception and the immersion is of course not as good. A lot of people love using VR but i'll wait myself until we get higher resolution VR headsets, maybe generation 2 will offer this. :-)

    • @Eddy3443
      @Eddy3443 7 років тому

      Rasmus Johansson that problem is easily fixed by super sampling 2x. even 1.5x is enough, but why stop there. I was able to pull it off on a 970 before I got 2 1080s. gauges were readable without me having to lean in (I only have to lean in slightly really quick because bad eyesight and astigmatism) I'm sure if I noticed that big of a difference, it would be even better for someone with good vision.

  • @rawnukles
    @rawnukles 7 років тому

    Seems strange to me that the pilot would have to take his right hand off the flight controls to use the missile control stick ! Swapping hands would not be good if the ship fired back and he had to evade.
    left hand would be fine with some practice of a hat switch like Bunyap used.

    • @renhanxue
      @renhanxue 7 років тому

      It is weird but that was procedure. Move right hand to rb 05 stick, left hand to main stick and (preferably) engage one of the autopilot hold modes.

    • @rawnukles
      @rawnukles 7 років тому

      This is interesting because playing flight sims and DCS in particular has forced me to use the mouse with my left hand. At first it felt terrible and it was hard for me to even hit the switches but all those left hand start up in the Mig21 have made my left hand feel fine now. Almost as comfortable as my right...
      My friends tell me they swap hands and use the mouse in their right hand, stick in left , just like the Swedes Rb05 system.
      Does anybody use their left hand for mouse cockpit clicking in DCS?
