You should also cover the a-a radar mode, I think it is triggered by having the weapons selector in an a-a position (IR-RB for example). Btw nice to see some longer episodes. :3 Great work as always! :D
4:11 Ok, so (I know I'm asking a stupid question, but) what targets is low/high gain good for? So I would imagine the weaker the background (water) of a target (ships), the higher the gain? Thanks in advance for the help! :)
Hey bud, jut wanted to say I appreciate all these videos. I think I spend more hours watching videos about flight sims than I actually do playing them haha.
@bunyap The reason you don't get a RWR spike from the SA-10 is due to the design of that SAM system, nothing to do with your aircraft. SA-10 is radio-Command guided, not Sami-active radar guided like most SAM's (SA-3,6,8,11 etc) This means that the SA-10 only has to ping you once with a very brief burst, which is unlikely to be picked up by an older generation RWR. this ping will get your location speed and direction. The missile can then launch and it only needs to track your using standard search mode (which again, seems to be incognito enough to not be picked up by an older RWR). The missile doesn't guide on radar reflection but rather receives "instructions" from the ground on where to fly to intercept you. Very sneaky system. Even with a modern RWR like F-16 has, you only get a brief "10" bleep on RWR for about a second, and it'll go back in search mode (seemingly) but it's actually guiding a missile to you. I'm guessing the Viggen RWR only is able to pick up Doppler and Continuous wave radars like what was common during it's era
I figured the flight computer would be the most confusing thing about this aircraft but it's actually the radar display for me, I can't make out shit with all the clutter on there and I have no idea what targets are supposed to look like, still, I'm excited for this module, I can't wait to fly it out myself.
Also, Bunyap made the distinction that you're not supposed to find targets like you would with the F/A-18C, but if that's the case surely this plane couldn't be used as a quick response CAS aircraft? From what I've seen, targets are loaded from the data cartridge, so am I right in assuming that in real life the Swedish pilots would be given Lat/Long and a talkdown of where targets are?
I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not and I apologize if I'm pointing something obvious out, but I think a lot of people haven't really wrapped their heads around the fact that the radar display is inverted compared to literally every other radar display on the planet. Strong returns are black/grey, while the background is bright green. Once you get over that hurdle and get used to it, I don't think it's that hard to read. Just look for black dots.
Actually that being said, looking back on the video I think I still managed to subconsciously work it out, the radar display is still incredibly confusing with all the weird jagged lines etc.
It is really not a CAS aircraft. It's a strike aircraft made for pinpoint strikes on known and pre-planned targets (compare to Tornado or the F-111). Single vehicles are very hard to see on the radar if they even show up at all.
what's the BDA on your run? Would have been nice for you to post-edit in an external view of your bomb delivery so we could see how well you performed.
Great! What a beauty!
So far so good and looks like more completed than others
Love the kitschy 80's synthesiser music. Reminds me of the running man. XD
It's the best!

Bunyap - the Wonderboy Thompson of DCS!

Essah Interesting!
Now that is informative, thx. Sneaky Russians ;)
Thanks but it turns out to be a simple matter of RWR detection range. It is either work in progress or lower than we're used to.
That's how it's supposed to work. Frankly, I've never *not* been spiked by an SA-10 in DCS. Falcon is another story, though.
Miss you ❤
you rock man! Subscribed

Wait, really? I feel like a dumbass now, that clears up a lot of things!

Thats not stock terrain textures you're running is it? Looks great!
That Radar detection mode is interessting. Did the swedes plan on using the Viggen in a SEAD role?
Panzerfan93 that is an interesting thought I wonder what it can pick up
It was / could be used in that capacity at sea, but was never standard practice I believe. Don't quote me on that.
how are the buttons that you used at 4:04 on the radar stick called? so i know the key in teh settings
how do you enable terrain avoidance mode?
how do i drop ext. fuel tank?
Wait..... I just noticed... There's no VSI in this cockpit? Or am I blind?
Mythricia It's on the left border of the attitude indicator.
is rb04 or rb15 working? or not working at this release?
legitscoper at least the rb04 is working, the rb 15 maybe but i'd assume it works upon release
Devs said that both are working, pretty sure the problem is that nobody wants to spend 45 minutes trying to figure out how to program the Rb 15
For some reason this video won't play on my smart tv
Saigun X it's working on mine, although I always link my phone and control it through that.

It's just a guess but the replay was probably already bugged at that point. It's a real pain to get good external shots in DCS these days...
no pilot is simluated in cockpit ? like in MIG21 ? hmm....ok but a bit a downside.
Pretty sure whether or not the pilot is simulated is an option in the DCS menu.
