I remember my Mom, in the 50's and 60's, using a "New Home" brand of pedal-driven sewing machine. Women, back then, still had to be physical to operate things! Remember the old "Wringer-Washer machines" to do laundry? Clothes lines?
I was pushing a washcloth into the wringer of our washer around 1954, standing on a chair and pushed a little too far. It caught three fingers of my right hand and my pinky was too short to get caught, so I have a scar between it and my ring finger where they split. Tied it up and didn’t do that again lol!
I have an antique dresser. It has a round mirror. I refinished it 22 years ago and it still looks great. Love y’all and I miss Hopie too! Her bright smile and happy countenance! She’s like you …. Always in a good mood. Blessings from OKC.❤
One way to keep the buckets where they need to be, put bucket in a milk crate and wire the crate to the t-post The dressing table/what ever it was called lol, they are difficult to find in good condition. Back then, no humidity control in homes (AC) and the veneer they were made of just peeled up/lose, got snagged, and tore up. Actually even though they are sought after these days, they were a cheap made piece of furniture. And you were correct, they sold them in sets, this piece could be included with side tables, the bed head boards and foot boards, and even wardrobes and dressers. To restore them takes a really good craftsman to do it and make it look right. I grew up seeing one of these in my moms room. covered with hair stuff, curlers, make up and so on, One drawer was full of scarves one misc. make up and so on. Was called a dressing table in our house.
I always enjoy your videos. Those old pieces are very interesting. Back than furniture was made out of real wood. Today you would pay a lot for furniture made of real wood. I really miss the girls helping out on the farm. ❤❤❤
Joy you should take the antique sewing machine to an antique restorer. It would be quite the display item in your house. Especially for it's age. Quite the conversation piece.
Good seeing the animals. Glad Gunner is doing good. I remember my Mama had a sewing machine like that. She had one that had a peddle that you used to make it sew and later she had an electric one. Good luck getting it restored. GOD bless y'all.
Concerning the vanity. When I was growing up in the forties and fifties, ( I'm older than dirt)... my mother had a very similar vanity. You would be correct about it belonging to a complete bedroom set. In Mama's case, it consisted of the vanity... bed with both a headboard and footboard, similar to a sleigh bed. There was also a very large chest of drawers and cedar storage chest, both of which one of my sons has today. I was gifted the set when I got married and like the idiot that I am, I did sell the vanity and bed for a ridiculously low price. Ours had a blond finish on it, rather than the dark finish on the vanity you discovered. Just a bit of trivia that I thought you might enjoy. Oh....I did learn to sew on my Grandmother's Singer treadle sewing machine. My calf muscles would scream at me from working that treadle. That's what it was called... "treadle", not "peddle".
Good grab Brandi, that would have hurt 😳. I don't know thw blue sewing machine but the table ones are ment to ly on it's side when not in use overwd . Then you open the top and tip it upright. Very nice find😍! Thanks . JO JO IN VT 💞
I learned to sew on a Singer treadle sewing machine. My mother made school uniforms for two local shops on it until she could afford an electric Singer (which she still uses). Purchased in 1970. Mum is 90! AUSTRALIA. 🇦🇺
Hi Brandi. Love your videos Almost time to take the hogs to market Don't think you are going to have baby Koon koons. Gunner is looking great. Always finding something neat in abandoned house. God bless and love yall ❤❤
Really enjoyed coming along with you while you fed all the animals. I am glad that you kept the sewing machines and the womens cosmetic dresser. The old home is looking so much better since you cleared it out. Love and prayers to you all. ❤🙏
Hello. Those two are singing to you😂😂😂😂. Yes, then look forward to little babies coming in their place❤❤. Good luck finding them. Good for you on finding them. My grandma had one like that. We were younger, I just remember standing in front of it when we would go to her house. That was 60 plus years ago. I just loved the mirror because it wasn't a normal shape to me.🎉🎉🎉.
Brandi good luck finding out about the sewing machines. It would be neat to hear info on both All the animals look good 👍 Miss seeing Hope help you feed Have a great weekend 😊 Blessings, Love & Hugs 🙏🙏🌹 Love 🌻 from Apex NC 💜
I am so glad you didn't get rid of the vanity. I hope Randy has the time to restore it. It is a beautiful piece as are the old sewing machines. Love to see your animals.
Very interesting video....The singer sewing machine should be worth a pretty penny.....Its amazing what you find in older houses....Stay safe and see you soon
We had a vanity kind like this one, ours had a matching dresser. It belonged my husband great great grandma. We don’t have it now but still in the family.
My mother had a vanity like that when I was growing up. I have the Singer sewing machine stand only. There was no machine in it. I took the wood off. I repainted the cast iron matte black and put a nice piece of granite on top . I use this for my vanity.😊 love it
My mom had one of these sewing machines. They were neat. I think it was in the 50s or 60s. I was born in 1952. It was old then. Nice vanity. I love to see the videos that you do.
Brandi Yur always so sweet when it comes to the animals! That would be awesome to get the old sewing machine restored for sure! That old that vanity is beautiful!! Thanks for sharing!! ~~~~~~
That sewing machine is from the late 1800 I have a machine like that one. I can find out information on your machine if you would like, as my superintendents husband worked for singer till he retired last year. I also have a dressing table, and dresser from the 40's. It was given to me by my departed partners mom when she went into a nursing home a couple of years ago. She was 96 this year. I was surprised when it was brought to me, its in mint condition. I'm so honored to have it. The mirror on the dressing table is very heavy, and huge. Both the dressing table, and the dresser are solid wood. Its a shame that the rest of the bedroom set wasn't with the dressing table that you found. There would have been a headboard, man's dresser, and a woman's dresser with mirror, as well as the matching dressing table. I hope you have a fantastic day ❤️🙂⚘️.
Love that sewing machine!!! We had one when I was growing up that used to belong to my grandmom...I would pretend to play the church organ on it, pumping the peddle and using my pretend keys with my fingers going a mile a minute...I don't remember what happened to ours but you brought back memories to me!!!💝🙏🥾🎹🎶
I was thrilled to find that you had looked up that machine. My grandmother had one of the peddle Singer Sewing machines. My mother purchased an electric one in the 50"s that she taught me to use. After mom passed away I got her Singer. I would not trade it for anything. I'm sorry but I don't think I have ever seen one like the other one. I can say this for 100% certain (if the machine works, and you can get them fixed) You have something that can carry many memories. If the girls are wanting to learn to make clothing.
Dottie could become Donnie, and the change wouldn't be too hard on the brain. I'm thinking about Donnie, a boy I went to school with,, he was not a big guy, but he was brave and friendly.
To loved seeing the Singer sewing machine looked just like my Grandmothers and as I learned to sew from her, I got to use that machine. I learned from her in the late 60's. She had her machine since she was young. She made her own clothes and some of my clothes as well. Thank you for sharing, brought back lots of memories. Maybe you can use it and lea DC e it to the girls and their children will have memories as well!
If you can get the rhythm to a treadle sewing machine you will never find anything that sews better. It can sew through almost any fabric. They are wonderful
We had that vanity when I was a little girl. My sister & I shared it. Also the black Singer sewing machine I used one time. My mother-in-law had it & she showed me how to use it about 48 years ago.😮😊
Yes, the vanity & mirror set was lovely. My mom had the whole set! Bed frame, night stands, dressers, cheater drawers, and my dad had a whole wardrobe. It was lovely ❤
Firstly your hair looks lovely…my mum used to have an old singer sewing machine she made all our dresses…3 girls with 1 yr 9 mnths between each of us…I was the youngest….
I found a similar Singer sewing machine at a yard sale in the 70s, paid 25 dollars for it. It was probably from the 1940s judging by the electric cord on it. It was in a more modern looking table than yours. I still use it to sew with, runs perfect. My grandmother had one almost like it, I think hers was a 1930s model.
I love watching your channel, I usually am just a silent viewer. But never miss! Since Dotty didn't turn out to be a girl, if you don't want to change his name much you could always go with Dots or Mr. Dot! You all take care a be safe! Love your family!
We had a vanity like that growing up. My sister & I shared it. That black Singer sewing machine I worked it about 48 years ago at my mother-in-law's house one time. It was a lot of work. 😮😊 Good 👍
My husband's grandfather enjoyed restoring antique sewing machines and using them. He passed away quite sometime ago. I think I remember one of my grandmothers had a dressing table like that.😊
We have a cabin in Minnesota and found at a garage sale a very similar vanity and mirror with matching dresser and headboard and footboard that were in pretty good condition. We bought them and I think we paid 100 bucks for the whole set. We couldn’t use the headboard and footboard because they were for one of the old time regular beds, and we have a queen and king.
My aunt had a Singer treadle machine and she started teaching me how to sew on it. That brought back some memories. I would love to have a treadle sewing machine. You get exercise while you see!
I have a Singer like that in storage in pretty good to very good condition and it is also a non-electric model and our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore had a bunch of pedal and electric/electric conversion models come through some time ago. I also have a night stand in that Deco Era style, but the handles were damaged so i did put some good enough new ones on it, but kept the originals just to possibly match or approximate them later on. I'll have to look at the Singer next time I go to my storage unit... I also have an old hall tree that might be late 19th to early 20th century as it has a really old silvered mirror on it, and I have lived in two late 1800s homes, one in MN and one in Kenosha, WI. So I learned to appreciate those grand old homes and the decor that suits them..
My sister still has our Granny's bedroom outfit vanity dresser and headboard just like the picture you showed. I have my husbands grandmother's singer also. It is in the wooden cabinet also
Brandi, I’m glad you did some research on items from that abandon house. My son n wife has his grandmothers pedal type Singer, in perfect shape, then got another Singer that electric, and my portable, Necci-Elna with the design discs. I now have a portable Brother electric for my granddaughter to learn. Grandma’s is about yrs 1937-40, mine was my 1st Anniversary in 1956…
Make sure you hang on to the sewing cabinet that the singer was in because the cabinet might be even more valuable than the sewing machine and the sewing cabinet looks even older than the sewing machine.
I learned to sew on a treddle machine which was really old but in great shape in the early 1950s, I now own a hand crank which works.but I now have own a wonderful electric machine.
I had a vanity similar to that that I refinished and used in my son’s room for several years, and he has it now. I did not use the mirror with it. I put a typewriter in the lower center section. It was about the same age as the one you have and they are well built and can be restored into a beautiful piece of furniture. I also have a treadle sewing machine that belonged to my great-grandmother. My son also has it now. My mom had one that she used when I was little, and I can remember her working that treadle and sewing to patch my dad and brothers pants when they tore or wore a hole in the knees. They were made to last and the one my son has would work today if it was oiled and the belt replaced. They are neat to have, especially for homesteaders, because they require no electricity to work.
To bad the singer plant closed here down the road, probably could have found alot out for you. I loved the singers from the 50's, I loved sowing with the peddle. You found some pretty neat things, that vanity is pretty. God bless yas
My grandparents had that entire bedroom set, including vanity set. I actually wanted that set, but they sold it in their farm estate sale before they moved up here.
I think the premier sewing machine is from 1960s. I had one my mom got me for Christmas one year. And the vanity that you had we had one of those also up in upstate New York. We had that we had the two dressers the closet two end tables the bed and it keepsake bench. I sure do miss that piece of furniture. We also had a dark set. The vanity the big mirror dresser bed. And closet. When my house caught fire in 2001 here. I lost the whole set. 😢 And my grandparents & Mother got that around about 1930's. - in the dark set 1940s. ! Nice Find. That black Singer sewing machine should have a pedal with it. The pumping pedal. ! My granny had one and she made quilts with hers right up until she passed away in 1980. Which I think my cousin's got that machine as we speak. !
I learned how to sew on a treadle , Singer. My mom had two but they disappeared ( I think my brother pitched them) , brother was living with her .. just settled her estate two weeks ago , after two and a half years of a lot of stress! I was able to save her Depression glass though.i had a vanity like that when I was in highschool, I graduated in 1970 I imagine my grama gave it to my mom .
@@countitalljoy2023 aww thank you , yes I really wanted at least one of them.. I even took HomeEconomics using one for the sewing part of it , all four years of highschool.
I have a very vintage Montgomery Ward sewing machine, but the treadle was messing, a sweet little old lady had it in her home, then her daughter got it, and then her granddaughters sold it, I purchased it!!! One of my sons has almost the same vanity. Also, vanity bench, cedar chest headboard, and dresser that had been his grandparents when they were first married over eighty years ago. All pieces are in very good condition!
My maternal grandmother used her Singer in the cabinet for many years, and my Mom after her. Then I got it, and sold it for $40.00 at a yard sale. It was from around the 1940's. Still looked very similar to the one you found.
My mother in law had the Singer sewing machine that was still in great shape. She was still using it in the 1990s. I think she got it from her grandmother.
My aunt and my grandmother each had a Singer pedal machine. During the Depression Aunt Winnie took in foster kids and made all their clothes on it. Later when I was a kid I remember her making pillowcases and handkerchiefs on one. The skills she learned during the Depression stayed with her until her death. Everything was sold at auction as part of her estate but the memories linger.
The vanity is a Waterfall piece. The wood exterior is laminated pieces of wood glued on to the frame. That one needs a mirror which may be round or a more fancy shape and for a more complete piece a stool with cloth covered cushion. I had a bed, chest and vanity with a round mirror which I gifted to someone. Beautiful craftsmanship. Hope Randy enjoys it.
My grandmother had one I learned to sew on. When she started getting sick she gave it to me. (I was around 8 or 9. I know she brought it from the mountains to Michigan. She was about 20 and from the mid-late 1800’s. One day I came home from school and it was gone. I was crushed that my parents sold it.
I guessed the Singer at “around 1900” which, of course, was borne out by your research. I had 2 similar to that, and let both go when we moved to a smaller home. One was my Mom’s, which I now wish I had kept. I would guess the other one about the 1950s. My Mom had a vanity similar to yours with the same type of wood and ornamentation. I don’t remember seeing it after I was about 8 years old, which would have been 1960. Dad built a new home, and most of the furniture was new after that. I enjoyed your video!
So glad your going to restore the singer. It’ll be beautiful 💕🙏
I have one!
I remember my Mom, in the 50's and 60's, using a "New Home" brand of pedal-driven sewing machine. Women, back then, still had to be physical to operate things! Remember the old "Wringer-Washer machines" to do laundry? Clothes lines?
My maw maw had a New Home. I remember her using it a lot. 🤩
I was pushing a washcloth into the wringer of our washer around 1954, standing on a chair and pushed a little too far. It caught three fingers of my right hand and my pinky was too short to get caught, so I have a scar between it and my ring finger where they split. Tied it up and didn’t do that again lol!
@@RodneyEstes-z1c I'd still prefer a clothes line, but my allergies don't.
I remember helping my mom with the wringer washer and loved to use the mangle iron.
Did both...used wringerwasher and hung out clothes.😅
My Grandma had that same vanity, it's still in her house that my Dad now owns. My Grandma passed away when she was 103. ❤️
I have an antique dresser. It has a round mirror. I refinished it 22 years ago and it still looks great. Love y’all and I miss Hopie too! Her bright smile and happy countenance! She’s like you …. Always in a good mood. Blessings from OKC.❤
Hi Brandi, it’s nice now that the temperatures are cooling down a bit. The animals are all looking happy and healthy. Good video. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦

The dressing table/what ever it was called lol, they are difficult to find in good condition.
I have 3 old Singers like that. I also have some pedal foot sewing machines. I love them.
I've forgotten why Gunner is raised fenced in with the other animals, as opposed to being trained to the general farm community
Hey Joy i think If you tighten the screws on the egg collector it would be a little easier to lift the latches and they would stay up.
Thanks for sharing❤
So sorry you don’t have your mom’s singers anymore 😢 Those vanities are so pretty❤
Nice video!
Brooke they are called a treadle sewing machine my mother had one ❤❤❤😊😊😊
I've seen one just like it not sure if it was best friends daughter or seen it at gmas. I love watching your videos and Dutch's.
That’s so neat that you have those memories ❤
The vanity is a Waterfall piece. The wood exterior is laminated pieces of wood glued on to the frame. That one needs a mirror which may be round or a more fancy shape and for a more complete piece a stool with cloth covered cushion. I had a bed, chest and vanity with a round mirror which I gifted to someone. Beautiful craftsmanship. Hope Randy enjoys it.
You might want to do some metal detecting at the abandoned place. Look under the house too.
Hope you find lots of treasures!
That singer machine a lot of people put on a nice wood table top and set it for a lamp, statue, decorative pieces..
My husband’s mother had a vanity just like that. I wish we would’ve kept it. We did have it for a while and then I gave it to my daughter.
Beautiful dresser my aunt had one I loved it❤
Please trim the ponies feet. Love your channel
Interesting 😊❤
My grandmother had that dresser, the wardrobe and bed.
That dresser is really similar to the one that we took to my daughter from my husband’s mother’s house.
I had the vanity when I was younger.
I learned to sew on Mom's treadle sewing machine. I wish I still had it. I've seen one's in good condition sell anywhere between $100 -$350.
My dad had one Singer sewing machine. They're really old but restore are great or for show.
My mom had a pedal singer when I was a child. I love old things.
Call the rooster spot since he has a dot/ spot on his head.....lol
I had a similar dressing table when I was a teen. Approximately 55 years ago. It was old even then.
It’s such a pretty piece of furniture ❤
I guessed the Singer at “around 1900” which, of course, was borne out by your research. I had 2 similar to that, and let both go when we moved to a smaller home. One was my Mom’s, which I now wish I had kept. I would guess the other one about the 1950s. My Mom had a vanity similar to yours with the same type of wood and ornamentation. I don’t remember seeing it after I was about 8 years old, which would have been 1960. Dad built a new home, and most of the furniture was new after that. I enjoyed your video!
