    A piece of blue painter's tape would be handy to hold the two halves of the Spotlight together while you maneuver the Spotlight Body Snap Ring (large) into place. :)

    Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I was recently gifted a 185K which has the same lamp assembly and now I know what part it is missing (the bent strip of copper that completes the connection to the bulb - I bet someone took it apart at some point and it flew out).

      Wow, a very nice gift. I bet you are correct that someone tried to work on the light before. It's not the easiest light Singer made, haha. BTW, Model 185 is the more modern update to the 99K and most of the parts are the same, just different body styles.
      I have a playlist for model 99k with 20 videos: ua-cam.com/play/PLsCOZgzzaiKIIUgkEujqHc9iNWN9NPW2Z.html

    I just got a 99K recently. In the spotlight, it has a lens cover that I cannot remove. Also tried to remove that larger spring ring, but that won't budge either. (Sigh.)

      I'm actually feeling lucky that Cute was missing the lens. If a person knows how to remove it I'm guessing it comes off easily. I mean, you have to change the bulb someday, right? I have a parts diagram of the spotlight and it looks like there is a smaller retention ring inside the black part of the spotlight that holds the lens. I'd be happy to give you the parts list for the machine & light if you think it would help. Email andymanuals53@gmail. com and ask for the 99-24 parts manual. I have other instruction manuals, but they all show the older style of light.

      Don't the LED bulbs shoot the light out the side instead of the end where you need it on that
      particular light?

    • @andytubesewing1953

      Yes, cannot find lens only so I just ordered an LED screw-in bulb. I'll do a video on it when it arrives. There is some silver paint inside the spotlight and I'm hoping that enough light will come out to improve the lighting from the weak yellow color to brighter white light.

    Thanks for making this video! I just purchased what I think is a 99k based on the serial number but it's possible it's a 128. It has a light attachment with an elongated silver hood. The bulb burnt out when I plugged it in but I can't get the bulb out. It doesn't seem to be a screw in. If I turn it left or right it seems to tighten but it becomes loose in the middle but pulling it doesn't seem to dislodge it and I'm afraid it will shatter if I grab it too hard. I noticed there seems to be what I would describe as a locking pin in a "j" like fitting so the pin seems locked in the bottom of the hook of the "j" but maybe unlocks if moved to the straight part of the "j". I don't know if this locks the bulb or the light fitting. Either way I don't seem to be able to move this pin. Have you seen anything like this? I wish I could attach a pic. I feel like I need an engineering degree to figure out how to change this bulb. Isn't there a joke about changing light bulbs? LOL

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  Рік тому +1

      Wish you'd mentioned the actual serial number. Just curious b/c the two models you mention are quite different. Anyway, many SInger lamps have a bayonet style of bulb/holder where the bulb has two small pins on the metal base that stick out the sides. The pins fit into narrow slots of the lamp holder. When inserting the bulb you line it up, pins to slots, and insert until it stops, then push a little more b/c there is a spring in there. By pushing and turning, the pins go into the "J" slot and you let go. The spring keeps tension on the base of the bulb and pins and holds it in place. So you get the idea now, right? to remove you first push the bub in and turn the opposite way to move the pins out of the "J" and then you can pull out the bulb. Try an LED bulb when you replace it, preferably with white lite. I think you'd enjoy that. If you find the model number of your machine you can usually download a free copy of the instruction manual from Singer Support:www.singer.com/support The manuals show about the bub/light and many more things about using the machine. Thanks for watching my channel and good luck. BTW, you have a UA-cam Channel and you have uploaded videos before. When seeking help online it's very helpful to see a video and here you say what the deal is.

      @@andytubesewing1953 Apologies. It's Y4432798. I didn't think to give the model because all of the machines I saw online showed a light like yours so I thought it might be a retrofit. Trust me I have been searching for the manual for a couple days but there are a lot of model 99 variants and all the manuals I have found aren't mine. I can tell because my machine's stitch adjuster is a simple screw, not the lever type which are the manuals I keep finding. :-) I think my machine is older. At any rate, thank you for telling me it's bayonet style and by following your instructions I was able to get the bulb out. :-) Is there any difference between the B15 and BA15 led bulbs?

      Here are all my 99k videos in a playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLsCOZgzzaiKIIUgkEujqHc9iNWN9NPW2Z.html
      One of those videos is about the LED Bulb I found: ua-cam.com/video/dB9Fw-4GkWc/v-deo.html
      Here is the one I used in the video: www.ebay.com/itm/Sewing-Machine-LED-Light-Bulb-5-8-Base-Screw-In-Type-15-Watt-120-Volt/292205375813?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
      Remember my video is 2 years old now, and there may be other sellers at a lower price. In October of 2018 I found the bulb at 231Terry, a trusted seller I have used for many years. They also make bulbs with fewer emitters but for me the more light the better. Thanks for watching my channel.

    Hi do you have any idea where I can get that retention ring to hold the glass bulb on the light on? I bought one of these and it has the glass dome bulb but no way to hold it on. Thank you.

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  2 роки тому

      No idea at all. No one makes new ones. Rarely parts are sold on eBay, even the entire light w/wires. The ring is NOT flat, but has some raised portions for springiness and goes into the black plastic before the lens. Then the lens is pushed against that spring and turned slightly to lock it in place. One fellow in the E.U. wrote me that he used a soft rubber O-ring in place of the spring. Soft enough to compress. He used petroleum jelly so the glass would twist on the rubber O-ring.

      For viewers not familiar with model 328, the bulb in the 328 is bayonet-style vs. the screw-in style of the 99k in this video. On Singer bayonet-style bulbs you push in the bulb slightly to lineup the pins on the bulb base with the groves in the socket then rotate the bulb to the left (counterclockwise) a short distance then pull the bulb straight out of the socket. To install that type of bulb you line up the bulb base pins with the socket groves, insert the bulb completely and turn it to the right (clockwise). If your 328 has the original heat shield around the bulb, you can pull out the heat shield before removing the bulb. When/if the bulb is slippery or hard to grip I simply wrap a rubber band around the bulb 3 or 4 times and that grips the glass very well and I can grip the rubber band without it slipping. The remove/install method for model 328 is shown on page 74 of the original Instruction Manual which is available for free download from Singer USA at this link: www.singer.com/search/support?title=328 the manual at the top of the list is what I'm referring to. Very rarely there is corrosion in the bulb socket and the bulb feels dangerous to turn. You can remove the entire bulb/shield/socket and pull it out to make it easier to work on if necessary. Here is my video for removing wires/motor/light on the sister machine model 327 ua-cam.com/video/sDcexZeS0f0/v-deo.html Usually you can just press and turn the bayonet-style bulbs and pull them out. Thanks for watching my channel
