  • Close up details of the Singer 99 antique machine from the 1950's! Changing the bulb in a "Rocket Lantern", putting the bobbin plate door back on the machine, threading the top and bobbin, which bobbins to use, which needles to use - so much information!!

    VERY helpful info about replacing the lantern cover! Thank you for saving me a lot of time trying to figure it out.

    This video is SO helpful. I just picked up a 1949 128k (for $12) and a 1950 99k (for $35) that both have the rocket lantern, which none of my other vintage machine's have. These machines are fantastic and both sew beautifully. Thanks you you, I was able to easily remove and clean the glass covers and change out both bulbs using 5/8" screw-in LEDs!

    Thank you ❣️I have been frustrated with this style of light , as many before me must have been because usually the lens is missing on these lights that I have seen. You made it easy ! Thank you again - and you probably saved a few lens covers 👍

      I'm sure that's why the lens cover is usually missing! It's such a shame that people didn't at least throw the cover in a box with the rest of the stuff that goes with the machine, so that someone else 50 years later could have the chance to get it back together. I was so excited to see this lamp with the cover!!

    I actually have a singer 99. I believe it’s like 1957 model and has the same same rocket lander I found it if you push in on the lens and turn it to the right the glass cover will come out the actual lens. I’m just watching your video now to figure out where and how to put the leaf spring back in.Got it! Thank for the video! New subbie!

      You're welcome! I had a problem at first, too - then looked for a video. When I didn't find one, I knew I would have to make one after I finally figured it out! LOL

    Very well done , thank you , i own 17 antique and vintage singers and just got a 99 with this style light , only one i got so needed to see how to get the glass out , you helped me and very detailed, perfect job , and i love the way the 99 made you smile , just admit it vintage rules lol .........oh and one last thing , when you threaded threw the pressure foot take up hook , i never even tryed that , i have a Spartian that the thread keeps jamming up on the upper thread tention and i just run the thread under the hook not threw , im going to go try that now and see if you just solved my issue , thanks for that tip , i knew the hole was there but never even thought how it aligns the thread directly in the middle of the discs... 👍👍👍👍👍

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  Рік тому +1

      I know, right?! The manual tells you not to thread through the hole on the hook - so why did they put it there? It solved my problem, so I hope it solves yours! Thanks for watching!😁👍

    I am so delighted to have found this video! I finally was able to get the lens off the crusty fixture by using a swab moistened with a smidge of sewing oil. I can’t access the screw to remove the whole light fixture. It’s arm bent down covering the screw head. Any suggestion for that?

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  Рік тому +1

      Maybe try to bend the arm back to where it should be? If you can get in there with just a dime (instead of a screw driver) that might work. . .

    Looks easy when you change the bulb, not so when I try it. Can't even Get the spring in!!!

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  Рік тому

      It took me a few minutes to figure it out. It wasnt super easy - I had to take my time and fiddle with it. Pay attention to where the bumps are on the spring, and you have to really push on that lens cover to turn it. I hope you get it back together! Good luck!

    That little hole you are using is for when you darn , not regular sewing. I just found this out from a sewing repair mans manual on the 99s.

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  3 роки тому

      Thanks for sharing! I didn't think it was for sewing - but it works so well keeping the thread from slipping in behind the hook, that I think it's worth using! It's such a great little machine - dont you think?💜😁

    My Instruction Manual says that thread should go UNDER the take up lever not through the eye.

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  2 роки тому

      The take up lever has to lift the thread with each stitch, so it has to go through the eye. If you are talking about the hook to the left of the tension discs, then yes - it is supposed to go under the lever. I explained that, and then offered the suggestion to go through the eye if you end up having trouble with your thread coming out from between your tension discs and slipping behind them getting stuck between the machine body and the tension assembly while you are sewing. Threading through the eye on that lever solved the problem.😉

  • @redoak3809
    @redoak3809 Рік тому +1

    You don't thread it through the hole unless you are darning or doing free motion.

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  Рік тому

      Yes, you are correct. However, I found the thread kept migrating toward the body of the machine and getting caught, so threading it through the hole fixed that problem and gave me a perfect stitch - so why not? LOL. It works great even when you are not darning or doing free motion.😉
