    Even with a junkyard motor, I’d be replacing the chain guides.Less work to do it now.

    Awesome video! One thing that would be incredibly helpful to the 4v mod community would be a video on how to degree camshafts. Some experts on these engines think this is the only way to max power.

      @change_your_oil_regularly4287 3 роки тому

      I realise this is a 3yr old comment but for anyone that is looking there is now a few good clips on degreeing 4v cams. Modular Head Shop/Mustang LifeStyle do a good job of showing the process using the 5.8 4v.

  • @Thomasrollins_
    @Thomasrollins_ 7 років тому

    Wow, the shot of him turning them DOHC's by hand was badass. I was making the sound of a 4v exhaust in my head. That sound leading all the way back through the exhaust and right where those 32 valves are opening and closing. Very cool.

    As a pro tip for the four valve 4.6 well actually all 4.6 engines is on the primary timing chains counting from the crankshaft up to the timing mark on each of the camshaft counting counter clockwise is 30 outside links because some chains are not marked.

    Mustang Lifestyle Great video guys!! Really cool to see how the engine and valvetrain operates. I've been sitting on complete top end set up from a 99 mustang gt to put in my 96 gt (PI swap) for almost a year now. This video definitely helped me with my motivation.

    I'm so excited about Turdzilla being on the road in no time. Thanks for the tips on what to do for cam swaping on a Mark 8 engine to Cobra spec. 305 horsepower should be plenty for the GT. When said and done. Do a dyno run for some good numbers in the next up coming video. So want Turdzilla to run again. Keep up the good work.

    Timing parts are important bought an Lincoln aviator engine same as the mach 1 engine for 140 out of a wrecked truck i will have around 500 in the engine after the new timing parts mach 1 intake etc i would not put it in without a timing kit

  • @racequad9
    @racequad9 7 років тому

    Hey Andrew, could you make a video of how to prime a 4v engine? Figured I'd ask since there's no videos on UA-cam showing the process, and it's an important step to do before starting a new or rebuilt engine.

    • @MustangLifestyleTV
      @MustangLifestyleTV  7 років тому +1

      +racequad9 hold the gas to the floor while trying to start. The engine will turn over and flow oil throughout the engine without starting. Key on primes the fuel system

    • @racequad9
      @racequad9 7 років тому

      i've heard that the proper way is to actually use a pump and attach it to fitting near the oil filter.

    • @nickcurtin9777

      We are going to hook up a pressure gauge with the coils unhooked. Priming the engine and making sure the psi is at pare before allowing spark

    you guys didn't degree the cams. that's like 30 to 40 HP loss and tons of valve train stress. it's astounding that nobody else has said anything either ??? as a mechanic I wouldn't even let it go out the shop until I degreeded it

    • @MustangLifestyleTV

    • @eternalcowboy585
      @eternalcowboy585 6 років тому +1

      No offense but I think your "mechanic" is either lazy, or not that good, I saw how he beat your harmonic balancer on with a hammer. That is highly unprofessional. I'm not knocking him we all have to learn but that mistake could cost you an engine down the road. So of you have crank bearing failure or crank failure, you will know why...

    • @eternalcowboy585
      @eternalcowboy585 6 років тому +3

      Dude, you are clearly uneducated in this matter. All cams are off some. also, the complexity of 4 cams make it that much worse. It is worth a minimum of 25hp up to 40hp....even the factory cams have been off a massive amount....edit: also the fact that the tensioners for the exhaust cams are flipped 180 from each side can cause something like 12 degrees of difference from one side to the next. MMR and other Modular race shops sell a kit that flips the tensioner for better control....

    My 03 Mercury Marauder (they come with the 4.6 4v from the factory)sounded like it had a nasty cam in it I did a power balance test and found that the whole passenger side bank one was running not up to performance compared to the driver side I eventually pulled the motor to find that the timing chain had jumped one tooth I think it had retarded itself just one tooth and heck I raced the crap out of it still running like that too.

    Great that Ford and Dodge are still building V8's. I went with a Chrysler 3.5 V6 LHS car for awhile , but I trust the V8 more. I hear that KIA and Hyundi both have a V8 car the market now. It will be great if they are good engines and the parts are affordable etc.. Japanese cars and parts are too expensive , I think a Korean V8 might be a good choice. If not let me know why you think otherwise.

    • @jb6574
      @jb6574 7 років тому

      Runt Medearis well usually it's somewhere on the top end of the engine. What it does is tells the computer the position of the Cam so the computer can properly time the firing of the injectors and spark based on the position of the cam

    • @runtmedearis896
      @runtmedearis896 7 років тому

      And that's why I'm not turning over. . correct?

    • @jb6574
      @jb6574 7 років тому +1

      Runt Medearis if the car isn't turning over you have a mechanical issue. If it is turning over but isn't firing up then it could be a bad cam sensor or it could be something else.
