- Well hello there! It's been a week since I made a video about Hoyas. Seriously, send help. Here are all my recent Hoyas (spoiler alert: I have 3 more coming next week and 4 more... at some point!) The video got a bit long and I got a bit chatty and a bit clumsy. Honestly, it's a downward spiral after the 10th minute. But at least you can laugh about it. I still hope you will be able to enjoy it & I am also trying something new so we will see how that goes! As always, thank you for watching!

I'm a "Hoya-holic" too! Every time I tell myself I have enough, I see a new one I don't have and think, "I can make room!" The Elliptica is my favorite and the next one I'm looking for. Still binging on your 30 days of Hoya videos (about halfway through). They are so informative. If you post more videos we will watch them, I am sure! So glad I found your channel!

Haha :D It's good to hear I made you laugh. I made myself laugh too 😂 I purchased net pots in a local hydroponics store. Manufacturer isn't listed but if you have such stores they should be available there. Cover pots are made by a company in Serbia. :) They are actually meant for self-watering, but I removed the inner barrier that makes the reservoir.

The Hoya you're having trouble rooting in water, you should try rooting it in damp sphagnum . I've had way better luck rooting "tuff" starts in Sphagnum mos. :) Thank you for sharing your wonderful hoyas!!
Thanks! These can all be water propagated, the issue is the stem was already gone on couple of them when they arrived so that makes it harder moss or no moss. :) But some are moss exclusive 😂

I start all and I mean all of my hundreds of hoya cuttings in water then pot up with cactus soil, fir bark and perlite all equal parts and they do great.
I start most of mine in water too :) works well!

I like your videos. Your very entertaining lol...ive been raising orchids with great sucess so i thought i would try a hoya. I now have 2. Im learning quite a bit to make sure these little guys live their best life. They are in clay pots tho. Mayb i should order the mesh type pots? As a beginner it might be easier to keep an eye on the roots. What so you think?

I was wondering if you could use almost instead of perlite in those net pots and then maybe it would stay in place instead of falling out of the pot. Or could you line the net pot with Coco fiber. My mini orchids I put in little wire baskets but I line with Coco fiber. I just buy one of the round replacement Coco fiber shells and cut it to fit. Then I leave a little bit of a loss around the mini orchids they were in a tiny caught with no air space for the roots. So I take most of the sphagnum Moss off of the mini orchids just leave a little bit so the roots feel comfortable having some sphagnum Moss around the and then I put the rest as orchid bark and pumice around the Orchid and they love it. The roots even grow through Coco fiber lining. Reason I leave some of the mosque around the tiny orchids Roots is because orchids grow roots 4-H kind of media that grow in. So if I don't leave some of the Moss around the roots those routes will die because they're not used to bark. Just an idea using pumice instead of perlite. I love pumice because there isn't all that fine particular matter floating around

I liked this video. I’m never sure what mix or pot type to use with which Hoya. I haven’t killed mine yet and they all have new growth so they must be happy enough. I have 5.

Do you have any problems with Hoyas rooted in water after you transfer them into soil? When I’ve tried it with aroids they always end up dying.
I just receeived some hoja cuttings from my brother from a very old plant our mother had since before 1979. It loves TX weather outside,apparently. I am rooting them now. The soil you are mixing by hand seems to have the same ingredients as Orchid soil. Is it OK to just use the Orchid soil?

Hoya pubicalyx black dragon is now pubicorolla black dragon. If you see one of those names, it has to be the same plant :)
There is an entire mess with pubicalyx and pubicorolla. There is no pubicalyx and I only call pubicorolla those that came with that ID because I am not sure about the IDs of the ones bought as pubicalyx.

How soon hoya will bloom often depends on the species (but not all the time). I hope they bloom soon for you!

Why sphagnum and not LECA? Or do you find that they can be interchangeable if you amend the sphagnum?
Bark and LECA won't have the same effect as bark and sphagnum. LECA will dry out quickly unless in SH system and dry leca can damage roots. LECA and synthic could have similar effect like bark and sphagnum. Bark and.... maybe some coco peat could be similar to bark and sphagnum? But then, it all depends on the environment.

I don't have Hoya microphylla, too hard to find for me. I only have what is sold as macrophylla, but is in fact latifolia. I made a video about it in my 30 Days of Hoya playlist, and in the description there is a link to my Dropbox where you can find a PDF file where I typed out my care for this Hoya :) I hope it helps, if you were thinking about macrophylla. :)

I absolutely loved your video. I have Hoya Funghii, and Fitchii. The Fitchii is ok but struggling to push out leaves. And my most troubling Hoya is Macrophilla. I have 3 of which one is ok. I glance at them from afar since I see how finicky they are. I see you have a magnificent specimen behind you. Any tips for Macrophilla. Ready to dump the last one I received 9 days ago. Dropping leaves and stems should I put it indoors ? Really hot in Florida. Keep up the Hoya videos
Actually, I have to make an update video about that plant. It was ID for me again as Hoya latifolia! Imagine that! Apparently, many hoyas that are sold as macrophylla are in fact latifolias. The ID on mine was done on the close ups of the flower, corona and corola. In terms of care, I keep it inside (around 23-24 degrees of Celsius), it is in terracotta pot, in a mix of bark and perlite (they make the majority of the mix) and there is some coco peat and general potting mix. It lives in a terracotta pot, next to my hoya shelf with LED lights. It has bloomed three times this year, over the course of 6 months. I water it once a week and I add orchid fertilizer each time (in winter I reduce the dosage in half) and I occassionaly add seaweed fertilizer. I never mist it since my humidity is around 60%. Are the stems soft towards the base on yours? Did you check the roots upon arival?

What kind of mix would you use for your hoya cortesii?
I use 50/50 coco peat and perlite for mine. Loves it :)
What are your experiences and opinions about putting wooden sticks into the media? I am anxious, therefore I use bonsai wire for my trellises...
I use the sticks when they are small. Then I use a wire or plastic trellis. The thing is, anything wooden will start to get mold and rot a bit 😬

Thanks! :) I do root them in water. I use distilled water and I just add one drop of Algamic or Superdrive. These took about 2 weeks to root well. Some need less time, some need more.

Have you ever got a hoya that was planted like in a tree bark. Like very compacted, in a way that it's impossible to remove it without pulling off all the rots. I ordered some, and they came planted in wood bark and I dunno, they don't look to me like they are having the best time of their lives :DDDD

Why do you have sphagnum moss in the pots? And who in Sweden did you buy from?
I bought from Camilla and another friend :) I use moss because there is only bark in the mix and I needed something to retain moisture.

Why too small and too shorts ??? Mine I sell them with atleast 1 foot long.
This is how they are sold in Europe, at least in most places. It depends on the Hoya species too. Some you can get larger, usually the more common ones, some that are harder to find are shorter. Also, more nodes = a much higher price. Even a one node cutting of a Hoya that can't be found in a garden center can be anywhere from $10 and more. Some of these are actually much larger than what is usually available to me - for example, I recently was able to get one node, one leaf cutting of Hoya clemensiorum... Unfortunately, it didn't make it through shipping. You must be very lucky living in a place where you can get larger cuttings easily :)
@@BasiePlants yeah we can get some common hoyas along the road like the carnosa,pubicalyx,madulilli,merillii,incrasata and crasicaullis..some rare hoyas we can buy them at 500 Php for an adult plant..once you started to collect you..ah can"t sstop ha ha ha
