Hello Miro. I have a question for you, maybe a suggestion for a separate video, or if you are planning a Q&A video. In several of your videos, you were mentioning your excel file, I suppose one that you keep track of your really impressive collection. I was wondering if you would be willing to share with us how your excel looks like, what data you keep track of, if you do it for every single plant, or for every species, and how do you do that. Hoyas are unique and beautiful and I think way easier to grow! And though mine have not bloomed yet, they do bloom and mostly smell good!! What is not to love!!
Hi Miro, no Hoyas do not look like bay leaves at all! Like that H. spartioides is truly amazing…how much photosynthesis can it make via only peduncles?! I have to now go look it up. And I loved the H. sulawesiana, those long burgundy leaves, hortlust for sure. But the most unusual one ( in my opinion) you have you did not show. I can’t remember it’s name, It is in your grow tent -it has larger brownish leaves with splotches, and the most unusual ruffling on the edges of the leaves. I love that one! Enjoyed this video very much 🤗🪴 Oh, I’m weary of expensive aroids. But I do still enjoy putting Taro bulbs in the garden for summer, they’re dirt cheap in Asian markets…and make nice houseplants! 🌱
I also wonder how much it can photosynthesize with peduncles. I guess it's not a heavy feeder xD But that is why I am reluctant to cut it and propagate it. Sometiems peduncles fall off when you propagate a cutting, and this is only peduncles and its life depends on them. Oh I think you might be thinking of Hoya undulata? :) She is pretty unique too!
@@BasiePlants yes H. undulata! Thank you I see some info on the web abt H. spartiodes but nothing technical re photosynthesis… yet they grow …Fascinating! further investigation needed. Question: can you do a video on starting Hoya from seeds? Have you done so? I see them for sale and would like to try . Be well. I have learned so much from all your videos…including last night I watched the aroid one where you were so happy reaching 100 subscribers ( 2 years ago) but didn’t talk much about Hoyas! 🌱
Many hoyas do look similar. Most of my hoyas look drastically different. More of my alocasia look similar. As for my philodendron. My hoya collection is much more diverse in color, texture, and shape. However, now that im deep into the hoya hole im finding it difficult to find more that I find attractive and that also look different. The only thing close to a bay leaf I have is on my densifolia. Edit: I have 35 hoyas. Which is more than any other one variety that I have.
That is a nice collection 💚 There are definitely a lot that look different, if not for the leaf then for the flower. There is a large variety in aroids too of course, but I just had to defend our hoyas 😂 Some aroid people won’t let them get the attention they deserve 😭
@@howmygardengrows3080 oooh nice! I dont have an azlanii. I saw some when I got my cuprea but the ones I saw did not look to great so I left them. They were also a little pricey for how they looked. I also want a jacklyn. They look so nice. I also have dragon scale, silver dragon, black velvet, maharani, nebula imperialis, frydek, purple sword, stingray, purple cloak, and regal shield. Still want a nice azlanii too. Alocasia were the first plants that started with. But now my favorite is hoyas.
@@BasiePlants Tell me about it… 🙄 I always keep 2-3 backup cuttings, just in case the motherplant spontaneously decides she’s just not that into being alive. But I can’t just give up on them, because they are sooo pretty.
My clone of Hoya burmanica from Vietnam has thicker, shorter and wider leaves :) And a different look - it grows like a bush, which I believe all clones of burmanica do. This can be nicely trellised :)
Aroids can be equally or more difficult to differentiate. Ex #1: white wizard and white night philo. Ex #2: philo Florida green, philo bipennifolium, Ex #3: green Congo, green princess, red congo, imperial green, green emerald, royal queen, red emerald, black cardinal 😅🤣
Oh White Knight is an absolute trash plant. The TC ones that made it around the Europe last year were awful. 0 variegation, always troublemakers. Perfect for compost though! I agree with all the other ones though :D
Well, there are upwards of 1000 or so, different species and cultivars, so of course some of them will look similar or even "the same". But there are also a lot of them with vast differences, as shown in the video. But using "similarity" as an excuse for not liking or shaming hoyas just shows the person or persons have absolutely no clue whatsoever. Also loving the "Hoya sp. Rindu Rafflesia" ...definitely added to my wishlist. Just need to find it somewhere where it's available. /The Swedish Hoya Noob
You can find it on Hoyapassion! I Just saw it the other day :D But I agree, only people who don't grow hoyas can say something like that. I think there is a lot of variety in every species, in aroids as well, but I just thought it would be a fun to show in a video how different they can be :D
Don’t own any of the ones you showed lol. There are just so many cool hoyas out there, and unfortunately I can’t catch them all because I am not a Pokémon master 😅.
I think hoya rotundiflora and hoya manipurensis are really unique. My boyfriend says they all look the same. I think he just wants me to stop buying Hoyas.

Oh yes, I did not like hoyas 5 years ago either. Then I discovered more and more species and it is all downhill from that point xD But I won't apologize for hooking you on hoyas! :D
really interesting and top of my wishlist currently: retrorsa (have heard horror stories so be warned). There's also a scortechinii (aff.?) with which flowers have a dark pink corolla. people can say all they want bout hoyas, they're my faves (except maybe kerrii) and that's that ;)
I refuse to listen to horror stories! XD I will not be dissuaded! :D But I think getting a slightly larger cutting than I usually do will probably be helpful. I too want aff. scortechinii! The plant in my patreon shoutout is Hoya scortechinii (sp.SR2008-022). I agree with kerrii. And let me also add australis 'Lisa'. And imbricata. The rest are fine. xD
Not liking hoyas was the first step to me being obsessed with them ❤ compactas, linearis, lacunosa supersilver, clemensiorum, obovata, ngg, nova ghost… sooo soo many that are as far from basil leaf 🤭as you can get!
Hahaha :D Hoya spartioides is really nice. The clone I have is the new clone from Indonesia with smaller flower. The older clone has slightly larger flowers and not so hairy, but I don’t have that one yet :)

Please let me know where I can buy fauziana 💕
I need the pine tree one, I’ll just say its a pine branch in flower 😅
Hahaha :D I agree 😂
I loveeeee Hoyas. I wish I could get some of those as I am in Western Australia and the rules make it impossible to import!!
I hope you will be able to get them one day :) Maybe someone dares to import them and sells cuttings :)
I used to dislike Hoyas because (ridiculously) the word didn’t sound pleasant. I got over that. Now I have nearly 100. 🤦🏻♀️🤭
Sounds familiar :D
Oooo I love alocasia too. So far, I have Azlanii, cuprea, zabrina reticulata, amazonica, black velvet, silver dragon, and baginda. I WANT a Jacklyn.
My regular denisii grows miles of vine byt drops all if its leaves :( and its mite free no idea why it hates me
🌿💚🌿💚
I once said " I don't get the hype with hoya, they all look the same" now... all I have really is hoya. I think about 100
It seems that rings true for a lot of us here xD
❤
I never met an aroid person who wasn’t won over by hoya elliptica. It’s like tiny velvet anthuriums on a string.
With as much resilience to mites as one xD And also fungal issues :D
@@BasiePlants Tell me about it… 🙄
I always keep 2-3 backup cuttings, just in case the motherplant spontaneously decides she’s just not that into being alive.
But I can’t just give up on them, because they are sooo pretty.
Hoya Burmanica has thinner and longer leaves than yvesroccheri I think
My clone of Hoya burmanica from Vietnam has thicker, shorter and wider leaves :) And a different look - it grows like a bush, which I believe all clones of burmanica do. This can be nicely trellised :)
@@BasiePlants Thank you. I saw your Hoya burmanica video and indeed your seems very different than mine.
Aroids can be equally or more difficult to differentiate.
Ex #1: white wizard and white night philo.
Ex #2: philo Florida green, philo bipennifolium,
Ex #3: green Congo, green princess, red congo, imperial green, green emerald, royal queen, red emerald, black cardinal 😅🤣
Oh White Knight is an absolute trash plant. The TC ones that made it around the Europe last year were awful. 0 variegation, always troublemakers. Perfect for compost though! I agree with all the other ones though :D
I Need Sulawesiana💕💕😂it’s the one.
It is definitely a worthy addition to your collection!
@@BasiePlants Great, thank you, so much.
Yep, until you don't label some. Hoya has the bestiest leaves in da house!
They do
Don’t own any of the ones you showed lol. There are just so many cool hoyas out there, and unfortunately I can’t catch them all because I am not a Pokémon master 😅.
Haha :D But you can dream to become one xD What do you think I do? 😂
I think hoya rotundiflora and hoya manipurensis are really unique. My boyfriend says they all look the same. I think he just wants me to stop buying Hoyas.
They are! Your boyfriend is totally wrong. You can tell him I said that xD
Will do! I guess the good thing of him thinking they are all the same is I can buy more and he won’t notice. 😂
When I'm honest, I didn't like Hoyas, when I started to collect plants. Well well well, guess whose collection is now like 95% only Hoyas... oops.
But let's be real. Hoyas are the best plants on earth 😍
PS.: and your videos are responsible for that 😂
Oh yes, I did not like hoyas 5 years ago either. Then I discovered more and more species and it is all downhill from that point xD But I won't apologize for hooking you on hoyas! :D
I'm glad I'm not the only salty one! 😅 is drives me nuts when aroid people say that!
Oh you can always count on me when it comes to that 😂 Sometimes I get the feeling they can’t stand hoyas gained some traction xD
really interesting and top of my wishlist currently: retrorsa (have heard horror stories so be warned).
The rest are fine. xD
@@BasiePlants even silver imbricata? xD
The aff. one I have isn't splashy like yours. Damn it's awesome
Not liking hoyas was the first step to me being obsessed with them ❤ compactas, linearis, lacunosa supersilver, clemensiorum, obovata, ngg, nova ghost… sooo soo many that are as far from basil leaf 🤭as you can get!
Same! :D Also, not liking silver hoyas was my first step into having God knows how many xD
Too many uncommon hoya, then I more or less do not listen your new videos
Hope you will do as before some videos on common hoyas or hoya care 😊
I need SPARTIOIDES so badly no scratch that I need all of you showed and booo to those that think Hoyas all the same
Hahaha :D Hoya spartioides is really nice. The clone I have is the new clone from Indonesia with smaller flower. The older clone has slightly larger flowers and not so hairy, but I don’t have that one yet :)
@@BasiePlants ah I like that YET in the end 😉
I should not be watching this. Went two weeks ago I went to replace my 5 Hoya’s that were quite old and that died under my husband’s care. I am now close to 30 new babies and guess what--he likes 1 of them. 🤣🤣🤣 Now I’m seeing different ones. 🤦♀️
I’ve been trying to get yvesrocheri for years now. Jealous.
Oh, is it hard to come by where you are? It is not so hard to find in Europe :D
😂
There’s BUDS not BUGS at the end of the plant 🤦🏼♀️ I heard BUGS I had to go back listen again not once but twice! I’m like Miro why are you showing us bugs 🐛
🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🐛🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Beautiful Hoyas! Nope they don’t all look the same… at all.
hahahahah :D DEFINITELY BUDS. But also, I will show you some bugs in future videos, believe me xD And not any pretty ones either :D
Hoya s all look the same and Their leaves look like bay leaves 😂😂😂😂 I love people, we can be hilarious! And his response 😂😂😂😂😂 and then he started with a Hoya that looked like grass/ chives😂😂😂 oh and his nasal / drew response 😂😂😂 and then 2 Hoyas in,he admitted it does look like a bay leaf but quickly retorted ” WHATEVER “!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wow if some people think all Hoyas look like Bay Leaves I wonder what they are cooking with.🤭🤣😂🤫 Miro I love your blank stare Cricket moments and the sound of pond falling out. I also appreciate you sharing new Hoyas with us. I have looked for several of the more rare ones you have featured. That said you must really have the hookup because quite a few are nowhere in US to be found.💚🪴🍀🌿🍃🌵
Right?! What are you cooking with? 😂 All of the hoyas in this video are not that hard to find in Europe :) Some are more expensive than others, but usually looking at HoyaPassion (who I think ships to US) or Betsy's shop, HoyaMyGosh, you can find most of them :) I also know collectors in Sweden so it does make it easier. :)
I’ll never look at bay leaves the same again. 🫶🫶🇦🇺🇦🇺🤭🤭
Hahaha :D
