I have been using leca for more than a year. My Hoyas and aroids are 100. I used to wash my plants once a month then after few months, I went to washing once every 2 months now sometimes I do once every 2 1/2 months now. After washing that’s the time I add those 3 hydrophonic solutions with little vita thrive. Once the water is almost gone in reservoirs, I just add plain water with little super thrive as needed and no problems so far. BTW all my plants on semi hydro, their roots touches the water as long as I don’t over fill the reservoir where it touches the stems. I’ve been using semi hydro for 16 months now
I do check the pH and ppm as some plants can be more sensitive to that. Not all of them, but heck, since I am doing it, I may as well do it for all of them. I prepare 30 liters of water and that's what I use for all :) I used to flush them in LECA regularly, but not anymore. They are still doing fine. :) Good to hear you are having great success with it as well :)
@@BasiePlants I check the ph water initially before putting the hydrophonic solutions, but if I have to refill the reservoir, I don’t anymore. Just plain water with little vita thrive as needed. So far, they’re all ok.

Interesting. I have them in LECA in both net pots and plastic cups and I didn't come to this conclusion. Have you tried rooting the same species with only ventilated pot as a variable? I do find some produce roots much faster, but that is due to the species (for example, obscura will root like crazy in the same pot, mix and conditions compared to caudata, but both will grow well). I've been trying to root a cutting of Imbricata and Dischidia Million Hearts (variegated) for maybe 5 or 7 months? I have them in damp spahagnum but they refuse to root. I even tried rooting hormone. They're still alive, I'm just not sure how I'll ever plant them.
I never rooted imbricata. I ordered one last year, it arrived dead. Not great for rooting. I rooted Dischidia ruscifolia - It was in this video, but unfortunately that part of the footage wasn't recorded. I rooted mine in distilled water with algamic and it rooted fast (half of the stem and leaves were submberged in water and they didn't mind it at all). I layed it on top of barky mix and pinned it down - not a good decision. Try laying it flat and pinning it down to something that retains a bit more water - coco coir with perlite for example (I have mine on LECA). It is doing really well and growing quite fast! If it has some aerial roots, you can just place it on LECA and keep the LECA moist. It will grab on to it in a week.
The reservoir? There is always water in the reservoir. :) Honestly, I don't flush anymore, unless there is something in there that worries me. I did findt the info initially that flushing is a must, but a lot of times it's not necessarily something you need to do if plant is healthy and you have no nutrient buildup. Obviously, I only have about a year of SH experience, so this is all coming from my conversations from more experienced SH growers :) I haven't flushed that Hoya bella in a year 👀
@@BasiePlants thanks for your answer :) I usually see soilfree setups with two pots (like lechuza, for example) and it is much easier to flush a plant or change the water in a reservoir in this case ;)
@@BasiePlants do you think it is a good idea to grow an epifhytic plant in LECA permanently? Can’t find reliable info on this 😬 but I see people growing their hoyas in LECA left and right on Instagram.
@@victoriaberngard588 Yes, I have some in a setup like that. (like Hoya verticillata AH006 from the video) That is my fancy setup 😂 This is my "I am cheaping out until I accumulate enough pots to order" setup :)
Got two cutting of my hoya calycina stargazer (which is gor~geous and everyone should have one) because it hasn't been doing anything since I got it in summer. (And because I tend to cut up my plants when I look at them for too long) I assume it is a watering issue...it is in orchid bark currently and I dunno it's kinda odd. I put one cutting LECA in my super professional ikea propagation box and one in water...We'll see which one will do better. Then there's a finlaysonii nova that I cut up because I was worried it'd die on me, kaniakumariana got too big and burned its tip off on a growlight so I cut it back and just stuck the cutting in pot, loheri and not-burtonii ( I dunno what it is) that came from the same seller and were kinda weird from the start and last but not least..a piece of regular carnosa because I accidentally broke of a vine and I didn't have the heart to just throw it away.
There are many hoyas I think everyone should have 😂 But I agree with you. I find that some do better in LECA mostly because I am underwatering them and they really want to stay moist at all times. Sometimes, this is not easy if your mix is not suitable for your environment/ doesn't fit with your lifestyle. I also am very interested in growing inorganically, I find it incredibly satisfying to sterilize LECA. I may have a problem.
Hi love your videos as always i have place recently like 3 days ago several hoyas in leca my krimson queen princess curtisii lineraris imperalis macrophylla varigata kroniana silver and several others is there any in your experience that didnt do well in leca?
So far, all the ones I put in LECA did well - kerrii (green one and splash one), carnosa (regular one, and Krimson Queen, splash), latifolia (the one people call macrophylla albomarginata), australis (ssp. tenuipes and ssp. australis), globulosa, imperialis, verticillata, bella, and the new ones in the video. :) And bunch of other plants (aroids, dischidias, violets, orchids).
Lovely content, Miro, thank you, fellow hoyaholic :) I have a good Seramis experience with some hoyas, just don't like the reddish look of it. Tell me: How was the Uhlig shopping experience? I even drove 2 hrs to them, lovely people. What is a sustainable option for those plastic cups? Do you have any recs about Hoya Identification (apart from the FB group with the same name)?
There is a published research, done by Michelle Roda, and you can scroll down in this paper to verticillata. You will see all the hoyas that had different names but are now verticillata. As for odorata, I did read it somewhere, but it might take me longer to recall 😂 www.researchgate.net/publication/326688072_Index_of_names_and_types_of_Hoya_Apocynaceae_Asclepiadoideae_of_Borneo
Had to separate comments so it's not overwhelming :) I don't like the reddish dust either. I think you would have to use plastic that has been recycled. That's the only thing I can think of really. I keep my plastic pots and these cups forever and reuse them all the time. I also sometimes use nursery pots for SH, I just add a cover pot. Uhlig shopping experience was... well. I hear people like them :) I only ordered one time from them and it wasn't so good for me, unfortunately. That doesn't mean other people won't have a good experience. This time, I didn't order from them but the seller I purchased these Hoyas from gets hers from Uhlig. So I assume these are cuttings from their plants. I did hear some people didn't have the best experience this year, but that could be due to many factors. I would definitely try again in the future. And thank you for watching! :)
I guess you could use glass jars. You can drill them. I just never tried it, but I know people did. Clay pots could be an option I assume, but... are they sustainable? I don't know. I intend to try some violets in SH in glass jars actually. :) One day that might be a video.
@@BasiePlants My Verticillata (the one you showed here also) and the other Verticillatas LOVE Seramis :D Densifolia and Gracilis as well. The others are in Pon, in glass jars, or re-used lids for their reservoir.
Where do you find your trellises? I'm always in need.
The wire ones I made from the rabbit fence :) I also use tomato trellises for my big latifolia. I didn't like the plastic ladder ones.
@@BasiePlants they look great!
💚💚💚❤
💚
you are hilarious 😂
Truly chatty. How about a trellising video. Your trellising methods look great.
I made one for Hoya latifolia :D
Lovely content, Miro, thank you, fellow hoyaholic :) I have a good Seramis experience with some hoyas, just don't like the reddish look of it. Tell me:
How was the Uhlig shopping experience?
@@BasiePlants Thank you for the answers :) I think it is always problematic to order plants in general...let alone across borders and continents....
@@BasiePlants My Verticillata (the one you showed here also) and the other Verticillatas LOVE Seramis :D Densifolia and Gracilis as well. The others are in Pon, in glass jars, or re-used lids for their reservoir. And I hope you picked up on my tone that I was just wondering, not criticizing ..since the talk about sustainable moss I was reflecting on my own ways according to pots and so on...
Are you saying ceramics? (Pronounced SIRA.MICKS)? Or is it something else? I've never heard of it as a medium. They looked like little pieces of terracotta or is it what is also called calcined clay?
The product is called seramis. I think it originated in Germany, but I am not sure :)
What drill are you using?
Soldering iron :) Sorry, I meant to say I melt the holes.
@@BasiePlants thank you 🤗
I'm prop. hoya sigillatis - because she's such a b**ch :D I bought one, it started dying on me so I chop it, and now it lives in sphagnum moss in a prop.box - I also ordered another sigillatis and the second one is doing okay, well at leas it's hanging in there :DDDD

Treacherous pump has some beef with you.
It will swim with the fishes if it doesn't behave.
I couldn't love you more
We will haunt each other for eternity 💚😂
I wanna grow up and have just as many plants (and knowledge) 🫵🏽🫶🏾
