Do more of these guys. You will not regret it. It's widely considered the greatest rock band of all time. This isn't just some random dudes here. These are THE legends of rock music.
Zep was undoubtedly "the greatest rock band of all time" if you just ignore The Rolling Stones, The Who, Cream, Queen, The Beatles, and Deep Purple. Which is like saying India is the "Dark Continent" if you ignore Africa. This was true "Stadium Rock" ushered in by the legendary Yardbirds. Please remember this the next time you tell some old coot (like me), "OK Boomer!" and roll your eyes.
I don't know about them being the greatest rock band of all time but certainly the were the greatest cover band of all time considering the amount of plagiarism contained in their music catalogue.
@@stefan8405 That's a really uneducated take, that shows you don't understand the history of copyright disputes in music. Everyone did what they did, until they became so popular, that people started suing to get a piece of it. If they are plagiarists, then so is literally everyone in the entire music industry, excepting The Beatles, for all of human history prior to them. It was standard practice, until people decided they wanted that Zeppelin royalty.

This particular performance was held at the Sydney Showground on February 27th 1972. I was 13 years old & was there with my brothers who were 19 & 17. It was absolutely awesome. I remember it like it was Yesterday. Which is funny as these days I have trouble remembering what I did Yesterday. Hahaha
Glam Metal was later with bands trying and failing to be Led Zeppelin. Perms, hair dye, shiity high notes, etc. These dudes simply looked this way, no makeup, bleach, or perms, just fucking monsters of the scene without equal because of talent and unique interpretations of world music.
Yeah - that nearly broke me - first, she only thought the song was just from Shrek, then she only ever heard Stairway, and then "glam metal hair". I just about pulled mine out! Skynard, etc. My sister; Heart, Older brother John Denver, Eagles, acoustic masters. I absolutely love all that acid rock, hardrock, blues, prog rock. Ever experimental bands. All before 1987. A Julliard trained singer ought to know this is Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song. It is not Shrek’s song. Us Baby Boomers grew up watching cartoons that featured music by the great composers, but did not refer to such masterpieces as “Merry Melodies, Bugs Bunny or Wally Gator songs.”
By the time glam metal came around most of those bands were copying Van Halen more so than Led Zeppelin, though Zeppelin were a big influence on Van Halen of course.

@@Micras08no-no-no You miss the whole (lotta) point here - The Immigrant Song - is the VERY FIRST of Led Zeppelin songs ever (if any more than this one) released for "3rd party use" with copyrights and that stuff around AND --- it copyrights was lifted loose for exactly the "School of Rock" and the main engine of that was Jack Black because he didn't settled down when he got a reject on that ask he made to copyright holders for named above song - so he made a short and suprisingly serious (for himself) video with appeal to rock listeners throughout the world to demand that copyright lifted for his project - that's how this song started its "tour" in a cinematography - main point here is : EVERYTHING ELSE WAS LATER !!! Hands down, my favorite Zeppelin song. Definitely not "glam." That hair was VERY common in the 60's and 70s, not just among rock bands, but on the street as well.
The creativity and guts to compose a song like this is awe inspiring. A few bars of driving rhythm and then a frightening Viking howl. None other than Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" fit in the movie "Thor: Ragnarok" even better than it did in "Shrek the Third". I was a Zeppelin fan long before either movie. All of their albums were on rotation while I was in college. Awesome study music.
I took a year off after high school. During that time, it was either Deep Purple's Machine Head, or pick a Zeppelin album, any Zeppelin album (though HotH was the most recent at that time).
Not only study music, gaming music as well. Zep was in the rotation with Sabbath, Yes, Rush, ELP and others. A complete blast in the late '70's and early '80's.
I was there, I was 17 at the time...The film footage taken from the band's performance at the Sydney Showground in Australia in February 1972; The audio track was from a Long Beach Arena show, in Los Angeles, in 1972. 👍
Led Zeppelin, the greatest and most sampled rock band in history. The amount of movies that use their amazingness is astounding! They aren’t glam metal.. this is almost 2 decades too early. They are the creators of real rock/metal and everything in between.
Not 2 or even 1 decade prior; T-Rex was from around the same time. Not the most sampled; Many more sampled. Nor that many songs in movies/TV! Fact: Aside from their own performances, no one was granted permission to use their music until like Y2K! Very few could/did due to the high price, except for a few that pleaded well. Normally I prefer the studio version of a song because that’s what I heard first but this is one of the times the concert version is definitely better.
D Oberski, I agree this is my favorite version of The Immigrant Song, while I also love the studio version. I think Page's guitar solo is better in this live version than the studio.
Sometimes if you hear the live version first you end up preferring that to the studio version. But in general I treat live and studio as two different things and set my expectations accordingly. Listening to live rock or metal while driving is a thing.
Top five? You mean Top 2. The Beatles and Zeppelin were the two most successful, the two most influential, and the two most adventurous music groups in popular music history. Hands down.

If you only know Stairway to heaven and Immigrant song...you have a LOT to gain on continuing with Led Zeppelin. Whole Lotta Love, Ramble on, Kashmir, Black dog...I could keep on the next hour or more. Led Z is pioneers of rock, blues, heavy metal and are unique in the the way that they never play a song same way twice at live concerts...always improvising, always giving us an unique experience. Each of them are unique in thier form of expressing themselves but together as a group they trancend the sum of all they each have.
You need to do Led Zeppelin's live version of since I've been loving you 1973 Madison square garden concert! He'll definitely love the vocals on that one!
Seconded. Even with your impressive skills, training, and dedication...I think you may take a lesson about emotional delivery in that performance. And keep in mind this (and all of their songs, really) were never played live the same way twice.
My parents were big fans of Zeppelin. I remember listening to them as a kid. My dad still has all their albums and used to play stairway to heaven on his guitar for me
Definitely do more Zeppelin. I'd like to recommend that you just start with album 1, track 1 and keep on going picking up live versions along the way of any song that you liked and want to see live, if you can find a live version. They didn't perform all their songs live so if you don't do studio versions, you'll be missing out on some incredible music. And Jimmy Page (guitarist) was a production genius in the studio so there's also that. ;) Enjoyed your reaction a lot and looking forward to more.

LZ was the perfect melding of worldly talent. Probably the best lead guitarist alive at the time, with the best drummer alive, with the best vocalist alive.
They went to Steve Marriott, of the Small Faces first, but he turned them down, to form Humble Pie. Robert Plant was Page's second choice. Check out Humble Pie's "Black Coffee".
Maggie, may I suggest 2... Led Zeppelin's live version of since I've been loving you 1973 Madison square garden concert, as well as the sweeping biopic, The Song Remains The Same/Rain Song from the same Concert. You won't regret it. 😀
The story behind this song is interesting. This song was written to honor the people of Iceland. They had a concert to play in Iceland but at the time there was some kind of labor strike and getting the place ready for the concert was looking doubtful , the people of Iceland came together and actually seeing did the work as volunteers so the show could be played . I don’t know the exact details of the event . That is the basic story of the inspiration for this song .
More Zep needed! "When the Levee Breaks" next? Or "Whole Lotta Love"? "Battle of Evermore"? "Kashmir"? One of the greatest bands ever, and unstoppable live.
Trent Reznor’s cover of this for the title sequence of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is very unique, and one of very few instances where someone doesn’t embarrass themselves trying to cover Zep
Heart's cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors to the surviving members of Led Zeppelin was excellent as well. Mind you they did have Jason Bonham on drums to help.
Great reaction. Zeppelin help create the heavy metal genre. As you go deeper into the Led Zep rabbit hole you notice references to the works of J.R. Tolkien. There are so many great song by them you need to check out.
I saw LZ live in 1972 when Stairway To Heaven was brand new and Immigrant Song was maybe a year old. Besides the singing and guitar playing, the bass playing is intense. If you're interested, there are some young bands with amazing performances.
This whole reaction really, but 1:32 specifically got you this new sub. What fun energy you have! That was great and I can’t wait to see how you’ll feel about the rest of their stuff. Remember, it’s all right at fifty years old and they were all in their early to mid 20’s, so it makes it that much more incredible that they sounded the way that they did.
Best drummer ever, rock or otherwise. Please at least give the legend of John Bonham a small comment. We're thousands of drummers loving his drumming :)
The song has been used in so many movies, that I can't keep count. It was also used in the Thor movies since it's basically about Valhalla and the Vikings. Thanks for the reaction. And, you actually know three Led Zeppelin songs. You did Kashmir, which you didn't like. Shame on you for that.😁
Correct me if I'm wrong but first movie that used this song was School of Rock. There's even a video of where JB is asking permission with the audience
Every LZ song is a completely different experience to the next. For some exquisite vocals I recommend The Battle of Evermore, which features a gorgeous duet with folk singer Sandy Denny. Magical.
Hello Magee Renee, Led Zeppelin's first album pretty much establishes who they are. The recording quality shows how it should be done. We use to drive around with it playing on the 8 track, so it all seems like one song to me. A song that I recommend they first did on their third album, but I prefer the one done by Paige and Plant on their acoustic album of 1994 " No Quarter ". The song is titled " Gallows Pole " or more often " Gallis Pole ". This is a favorite. UA-cam video: Robert Plant & Jimmy Page 'Gallows Pole' - Jools Holland Show 1994 BBC
I'm so glad you did another Led Zeppelin song. If you're going to do more, I would recommend an epic version of Kashmir (Live at Knebworth 1979) (Official Video). Led Zeppelin never plays the same song in the same way. This version has by far the best and clearest vocals which will give you a lot to react to. Another good choice would be Since I've Been Loving You live at MSG 1973.
If you get a chance, listen to the whole Led Zep III. They have eight studio albums, four live albums, nine compilation albums, 16 singles, 16 music videos and eight music downloads. So you have allot more listening to go!~ Thanks for the video! Peace!~
What a great live version. The reaction though - it's like the power of this kind of music - it's like it doesn't exist anymore. Perplexing. It's like people won't let themselves go enough to feel that intensity anymore - they're too controlled. She is so utterly in control of herself.
I've loved this song since I first heard it in my early teen years (the late 70's), it's always fun to see people's reactions to music they heard in shows or movies and thought they were written for them. Robert Plant has had a long musical career after Led Zeppelin ended in 1980 and I like his more recent work with Alison Krauss. RIP Bonzo.
Glam rock was 100% around in the early 70’s. Bowie, T-Rex, Gary Glitter, Queen…. And she doesn’t even mention the glam rock in the video. All she says is they are rocking glam metal hair. Which is a fair comparison. Glam metal was an entirely different genre from the 80’s.

Oh, I agree, Bobbo Lan. One frigid winter in Pullman, WA, the gang in the Dorm. It was too much of a good thing. Because, well, they're Moody. So one night, I had my room to myself, and I stacked 4 Zeppelin albums on my best friend's excellent record changer . Cranked it and took a vacation in rock and roll heaven. I felt much better, much!

Give her a break, She's an opera singer for heaven's sake.
She’s just a kid, doesn’t know any better
Forgive her, for she knows not what she said.
I agree with you
Glam Metal was later with bands trying and failing to be Led Zeppelin.
Hey, I know I'm getting older, but as a Julliard trained singer, I would think they would cover ALL music, especially ones as influential as Led Zeppelin. What are they teaching these young people! 🤣 Well, she certainly has a lot of great music to check out now!
@@tattoodude8946 I'm just glad she's trying, good on her. These legends get lost because we're over saturated with stimulation from everything.

Hands down, my favorite Zeppelin song. Definitely not "glam." That hair was VERY common in the 60's and 70s, not just among rock bands, but on the street as well.
And for Robert, this actually qualifies as a bad hair day. He sometimes had overwhelming locks.
I had long hair like that in the 70's.
LED Zeppelin= Best frontman , lead guitarist, bassist and by far the greatest rock drummer of all time. Genius.
Led Zeppelin is the best rock band ever without question
The creativity and guts to compose a song like this is awe inspiring. A few bars of driving rhythm and then a frightening Viking howl. None other than Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" fit in the movie "Thor: Ragnarok" even better than it did in "Shrek the Third". I was a Zeppelin fan long before either movie. All of their albums were on rotation while I was in college. Awesome study music.
For me it was School Of Rock
I took a year off after high school. During that time, it was either Deep Purple's Machine Head, or pick a Zeppelin album, any Zeppelin album (though HotH was the most recent at that time).
Best part of Ragnarok

Perfect man. Zeppelin is one of creators of heavy or hard rock.
Black Sabbath just entered the chat.
Led Zepplin are gods of Rock & Roll!
Normally I prefer the studio version of a song because that’s what I heard first but this is one of the times the concert version is definitely better.
Yeah, and a lot of live versions have slight modifications, so it is always good to start with studio to hear the song's authentic sound.
Historically a top five most successful rock band. This is one of their many massive hits.
Top five? You mean Top 2. The Beatles and Zeppelin were the two most successful, the two most influential, and the two most adventurous music groups in popular music history. Hands down.

The power of Paige and Plant made Zeppelin one of the top groups in the 60's and 70's look at that crowd.
Love love love the first album
Whole Lotta Love was the song that put them on the map as a popular group. It should probably be the next one you look at from them.
Just as long as she cuts out that middle, filler, crap. It would have been the greatest song ever, imho, if that part was not in the song.
This band is the greatest rock band of all time. Ain’t no glam rock. If you have to put a label on them, classic rock at its finest.

What a great live version.
The reaction though - it's like the power of this kind of music - it's like it doesn't exist anymore. Perplexing. It's like people won't let themselves go enough to feel that intensity anymore - they're too controlled. She is so utterly in control of herself.
I'm still floored she has no idea who Led Zeppelin even is!

I've loved this song since I first heard it in my early teen years (the late 70's), it's always fun to see people's reactions to music they heard in shows or movies and thought they were written for them.
