I toured iceland and our tour leader played this song in the bus. She was so proud that LZ visted and playef in iceland. Its a beautiful country with a rich culture. Enjoy❤
It's sooo great to see young people recognize and appreciate the music that us older folks grew up with. This proves that this music is timeless!!! A hundred years from now when they hear this for the first time, I guarantee they react the same way. Much love
I think you just showed why listening to the studio recording first is important. Capturing any artist or groups’ intent occurs there first, giving a familiarity when experiencing live performances. Nice reaction guys…
@shegocrazy I know because in Sydney Plant was telling the crowd during the song to go back to the grandstand after they stormed the area in front of the stage. There was a threat from the showground trust to shut down the concert out of fear the audience would damage the arena surface if they got onto the grass. The trust did not act on the threat. I was in the grandstand one level up, dead centre and front row. I was not moving and sat there from 10am to 5pm. If only I had a bladder like that now!
You guys are my favorite reactors because you genuinely enjoy music, are always smiling, and are willing to explore music styles you have never heard before. Keep up the great work!
Wow, great idea guys, to do the studio version AND the live after. That was great. ---- So, for me, back in prehistoric times when I was young and grew up with this, every song that Led Zep did was new, different, special, and just freaking fabulous. What astounding talent. Thanks for your reaction. I enjoy your energy and entusiasm and well as honest refection on what you liked or not.
This song was, for me, like an opening to another world. I must have been 12 or 13 when I heard it on the radio after it came out. This was like nothing I thought humans could produce. I thought it came from outerspace or something. Since then (1971 - 1972) I'm a big Led Zep fan but also prog in general, especially bands that were also from somewhere else, like Yes, Van Der Graff Generator or Gentle Giant. I'm still fan from those today. Of course I added new ones to my list like Primus or Kikagaku Moyo…
I think a song you will really like is "Over the Hills and Far Away". Also, "The Battle of Evermore" is a gem. But really, there are no bad Led Zeppelin songs. "Ten Years Gone" is one you will appreciate too. Very moving. Oh and of course, No Quarter. Oh man, too many.
Great reaction hope you are enjoying the LED ZEPPELIN rabit hole WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS is a great song think you will love it very bluesy great to more people getting in to LED ZEPPELIN ❤
Not sure if you are into the whole Marvel Universe series of movies, but this song is played at the best possible place ever in the film 'Thor: Ragnarok'👍
For completely different genres Zeppelin did try The Rain Song, Down By The Seaside, D'yer Mak'er, Battle of Evermore, All My Love, Black Country Woman, Bron-yr-Aur Stomp etc. Hell, throw in Hot Dog as well. ✌️
Good dance music, huh? I never get tired of this band! Top talent, timeless, and the original sound everyone was influenced by. Cut my teeth on their stuff. Yeah 😎👍💜 And the original is almost always the best, but when a band can perform a great set of music, live, and still kick it, that says something major. Ya gotta check out more Led. I can absolutely list some great ones 😊
It's me TommyBee, my dad gave me the double record album House's of the Holy from Led -Zep when I was 12 years old and it is a real banger of an album and the cover artwork is legendry. Try and find an image of the cover and you will know iexactly what I mean. Love your channel guys and your very special. In my opinion, hihihi! XX
I remember getting my Zeppelin III album, setting the needle down on Side-One and this played. I played it over and over before moving on to hear the rest of the album. Which is pretty mellow, but still was filled with some good stuff.
Just swung by to say how much I love you two both, And I like to see when younger folks discover and acknowledge the greatness of this band. They just did make some great music in my times, a kind which is hard to find nowadays.
They played a concert in Reykjavík (Laugardalshöll) Iceland 1970. Apparently the song was written in the airplane on the way back and is about Iceland.
Also if ya dig and enjoyed this video which was cool and I still am a long haired after all these years though with a changed heart and peace in the heart and you can also 😀 you may also enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. Also I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on UA-cam. 😀
All that studio versions offer that live versions cannot is a clean experience. Listening to a song played from an album will always be perfect whereas live may contain errors or improvisations which are generally always fun at the very least. That's the reason why I really enjoy live versions! :) Plus, watching the band perform a song live is always a great experience.
Every performance was amazing! Watch this live 1972! Yes about the Viking invasion of Britain! This song was used inseveral movies including School Of Rock...a Shrek movie and Thor Ragnorock!
So now that you just did two great rockers, Immigrant song and Achilles last stand, many would agree that it’s time that you hear pure acoustic Zeppelin. Going To California, Jimmy Page on guitar and John Paul Jones on mandolin. I suggest once again if you have it in you to do BOTH the studio and live versions. The studio version from 1970 is just beautiful and Roberts voice when he was younger was fantastic! But as others have said, you should follow it with the live version from Earls Court 1975. I guarantee you it would put a smile on your face and warm your heart! ua-cam.com/video/NrUIJY_Xu2s/v-deo.htmlsi=vgdttv-JYXNF0leK
They wrote this song while playing a gig in Iceland, the people treated them so well they decided to write a song about the Icelandic heritage, whom also played a major role in England's history. And actually the Vikings didn't "lose" England, William the Conqueror was Lord of Normandy, land given to the Vikings by the King of France, his decendents are still the kings and queens of England to this day. Page was a studio magician, in the studio the guitar is layered, deeper and richer, the live version has the edge in energy (though both are pretty energetic lol).
If you guys really wanna be blown away do the entire “how the west was won” album. It’s amazing. They are a rare band that sounds as good if not sometimes better live than even on the studio recordings. “How the west was won” is the best live album in history
Want to hear them do a whole different style? Try "Going to California". Live, studio, or both! Or, "The Rain Song". Again, studio, live or both! Just more examples of their diverse styles. Can't put them in any one genre.
Thanks for doing my pick and love you guys for doing both versions! The song was inspired by their trip to Iceland in early 1970. And Robert Plant believe it or not is interested in other subjects besides love and lust lol!. This was an opener for them in their earlyconcert tours, pure hammer of the gods! More to come!
Historical note pertaining to the lyrics. The Vikings actually would only do enough death and destruction to get the people to submit. Once they did, they would tell them to rebuild and move on with their lives and that they would be back in a year to collect tribute. I'm pretty sure that's what that lyric refers to..
The song is partly about the Vikings invading England and partly about the band in their early days, leaving Iceland and going to conquer the western shore - the U.S.
You should listen to what was the B side of the single Immigrant Song, “Hey Hey What Can I Do?” It wasn’t on any of their album until after Bonzo’s death. By the way, if I’m not mistaken, the video was from their performance in Australia, and the audio is from a performance in California.
New subscriber here... I really enjoy your reactions.. good variety of subjects and smart and honest analysis. I would like to suggest that perhaps you check out the all female bands coming out of Japan.. there is an exciting scene rising from there and starting to get worldwide recognition.. Band Maid, Lovebites and Gacharic Spin to name a few.. I would recommend Band Maid, one of the best hard rock bands in the world right now, IMO. Try 'Hate?' Live or 'Domination' Live for starters.. on their official UA-cam channel and they don't block.. Also 3 sisters from Mexico The Warning.. I hope you will enjoy..!! Thank you for what you do..!
III don`t know people, but I was lucky to have a cool older brother who had all their albums & if you lived in the Norde United States, the yell of the Immigrant song was our anthem... BUT when I got my 1st chance to go to their show in `75 Plant just boomed out those lyricks with the jam at the end.... bravo, bella, multa bella grazie grazie grazie...SO lets go & hear some more live Zep from `75 in NYC, my new rockin pals
I can't believe how underrated they are. They deserve way more recognition. A suggestion as well! Nick Thurl Mavromatis' new song is on a whole other level. You should react to his new song! 🔥
Vikings often settled in the lands they invaded ... sometimes because they crushed the inhabitants, sometimes they were bribed with land by a king to stop killing the locals. The norsemen didn't have much flat fertile land to grow crops so they often invaded initially for treasure but always wanted farm land.
Robert Plant loved the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. He loved mystical lyrics. You can see more of this type of lyrics in "Achillies Last Stand", "The Battle of Evermore", and "No Quarter" to name a few. "No Quarter" and "Battle of Evermore" being two of my favorites. The Battle of Evermore is the only song where they bring in an additional singer with Robert Plant.
This Song is about the People of the Noth (Northen Europe) when they went to Northern Germany, Denmark , Sweden , Iceland and Norway. It was referring to the Teutonic People Defeating and Destroyed the Roman Empire because of their betrayals.
Hey guys, great reactions! LZ RULZ!!!! I'm psyched to see more reactions with you two! Hey, check out a Canadian Rock band called Rush! Rush came up after LZ, in the early/mid 70's and they developed their own sound by 1976-77. They started out heavy, Blues-Rock oriented, like LZ, but then they became Progressive Rock gods by the end of the 70's. Then in the 80's they became Prog-Rock-Pop-fusion band. Check out "2112" from 1976 and check out "Tom Sawyer" from 1981! They will blow you away!
I was about 15 when it came out, honestly though, it hit big, but so did many LZ songs. Not unlike so many other bands of the day..We were being inundated by a constant avalanche of new and different sounds daily, and that is not hyperbole..It was almost too hard to keep up!..Just about came to expect it.
The Vikings are a big part of our history of mythology. I think it was King Athelstan who finally defeated them, and because he was a devout Christian he didn't execute their King,he forgave him. Which shocked them, and if my memory serves that was the start of the Vikings becoming Christian.
Back in the 60's & 70's. We didn't realize just how spoiled we really were with all of that great music. I personally tried to buy and listen to as much as I could. From Zeppelin-to-Aretha Franklin-to-Sinatra-to-Black Sabbath-to-Earth Wind & Fire-to-Pink Floyd ect.... The major difference between Led Zeppelin and 99% of the other bands was..... Peter Grant protected them. This led to a river of great music. Also, all of the members were veterans and accomplished musicians. However, the Beatles were the band that made most of this possible. Because they were encouraged to experiment. And the end result was a huge amount in profits.
Hey guys I'm not caught up on the zep you've played... but I hope you continue to play the rest of the live show at msg.. every song is so awesome and better then studio.. much better..I love how much your enjoying zep.. Keep it going... and all the different groups and there music. None of them compares to the mighty ze.... you will get excited with many other bands but never forget how much you think and like zep
Not sure if you guys take suggestions from comments , and I know you have done Kashmir. But in 2009 , Led Zeppelin did a final concert called Celebration Day. At this time , the drummer had passed away but his son replaced his father for this concert. Ofcourse the band is much older at this point , and you would think that they would have lost a lot of their energy by this time . Hell No !!! In my opinion , this is the best performance of Kashmir to date and Robert’s voice , and Jimmy’s guitar playing is phenomenal ! I think it would be a great reaction for you guys to do.. Due to the sheer disbelief of what you’re gonna see. Give it a shot. You can’t go wrong with this one!
As you said one has to give some attention to the drumming as John Bonham, the best drummer of the world surprise you with his off beat playing deliberately so that you can not catch the beat and that adds the surprising element to the song
Zep was in Iceland in 1970 and then after wrote Immigrant song
I toured iceland and our tour leader played this song in the bus. She was so proud that LZ visted and playef in iceland. Its a beautiful country with a rich culture. Enjoy❤
Jimmy page said they never play live the same way twice ,they loved to improvise and make it a different experience
Wow! Having a great time with these 2 in 1"s.
May I suggest Trampled Under Foot / Live at Earls Court 1975.
Im 64...we were all BLOWN AWAY BY ZEPPELIN!!!!
Can't go wrong with Zeppelin!
Hey Julie, (same age) we still are! 👈😉
I’m here too 63😂😂😂😂
This song rang through my head when I visited my Viking roots in Norway 25 years ago. One of the best LZ songs!
I think it's physically impossible to not bob one's head during this song. It's just that awesome. Hey from Texas! 🤠
John Bonham was a MONSTER! He is widely regarded as the best rock drummer of all time. His peak powers are on display here.
He was The Hammer of the Gods!! R.I.P.
Right ! when he accompanies the solo of Jimmi Page, he's not in the same planet
He was bested by Karen Carpenter
@@blwestern Not quite.
@blwestern I love Karen, but I think Bonham beats her(excuse the pun.)If you said Cozy Powell or Keith Moon, you might have an argument.
I was there in 1972. It is at the Sydney Showground. This was the start of three hours of brilliance.
I'm envious. Audio is from a US show.
@@davidcarter4247 I know the bladder feeling.at concerts lol. What great memories you have!
I was there as well, PLUS at the Melbourne Concert ...yippee
@@shegocrazy I did the Sydney and Melbourne Concerts in 72, amazing and LOUD
You did the right thing by listening to the studio version and then the live version.
You guys are my favorite reactors because you genuinely enjoy music, are always smiling, and are willing to explore music styles you have never heard before. Keep up the great work!

I love how you do the studio and a live together. Great idea. All reactors should do that.
Rock and Roll Live Video (Madison Square Garden 1973) Original Records. Led Zeppelin in concert.
No, I was at this Concert, Sydney, Australia 1972---Sound mixed in LA
The studio version is like a script where as when the get on stage they are free to express themselves and all their talents
And it's much much better.
This song was, for me, like an opening to another world. I must have been 12 or 13 when I heard it on the radio after it came out. This was like nothing I thought humans could produce. Ramble On, Achilles Last Stand, Kashmir, ...
I was at that Live Concert, in 1972......the footage is from the Sydney, Australia Concert {Tour} my god they were loud, What an amazing Band
Thank you for listening to both versions it seems like there is a little missing in each that you pick up by hearing both
Great reaction hope you are enjoying the LED ZEPPELIN rabit hole WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS is a great song think you will love it very bluesy great to more people getting in to LED ZEPPELIN ❤
Not sure if you are into the whole Marvel Universe series of movies, but this song is played at the best possible place ever in the film 'Thor: Ragnarok'👍
"Immigrant Song" and "Achilles Last Stand" feel like two chapters of one epic to me.
Yes Achillies Last Stand live at knebworth in 1979!
For completely different genres Zeppelin did try The Rain Song, Down By The Seaside, D'yer Mak'er, Battle of Evermore, All My Love, Black Country Woman, Bron-yr-Aur Stomp etc. Hell, throw in Hot Dog as well. ✌️
It's the GOATS!!! the best ever!! So so many great different genres of song choices!!¡

This launched a bevvy of metal bands .

They played a concert in Reykjavík (Laugardalshöll) Iceland 1970.
Apparently the song was written in the airplane on the way back and is about Iceland.
Another combo you should do of studio then live is “ Rock and Roll” the live version is another one from MSG 1973😁👍🏻❤️🎸🎼
loved the way this song was used several times in the movie Thor:Ragnorak!!
JPJ's bass run with "On we sweep..." is a favourite moment on the instrument for me. 😊❤

Carol is so beautiful that it's distracting! But don't change a thing!!
Thanks for doing my pick and love you guys for doing both versions! The song was inspired by their trip to Iceland in early 1970. My understanding is it was written as a joke, but the fans love it, & has been used in several movies.
My dad carried one of Jimmy Pages guitars in Melbourne, Around 1970's, before I was born 😁

when the levee breaks its a rap son to zep jajajaja
Live all the way. All of their live versions are amazing and they don’t play the song the same way live
Written after a trip to Iceland I think.
The song is partly about the Vikings invading England and partly about the band in their early days, leaving Iceland and going to conquer the western shore - the U.S.
Pure class

Great choice n reaction get the led out
Chicos los sigo, reacciones al homenaje led Zeppelin por distintos artista, escalera al cielo por Heart es emocionante!!!!
The Huge Decibels of Live.
I believe the song is about the Viking invasion and conquest of Britain
As you said one has to give some attention to the drumming as John Bonham, the best drummer of the world surprise you with his off beat playing deliberately so that you can not catch the beat and that adds the surprising element to the song
The drumming is good but the bass line is something else
Good? GOOD? Just good? 😂
