- I started watching Star Wars Visions on Disney + and totally fell in love with this little droid 4-9.
4-9 is from Star wars Anime Visions episode 5 "The Ninth Jedi" and is a classic Star Wars sidekick droid.
There were a number of interesting challenges on this DIY scratch build despite me thinking this would be a pretty easy build.
I hope you enjoy this custom DIY Scratch Build!
Thanks for visiting DR Toys, have a great one!
These are so fun to watch! This one turned out great! Honestly, I hope you stay away from 3D printing. I love your minimalist approach with using odd and ends laying around!
Thank you so much! I honestly don't really want to learn a new software... 😂
Great build, Dave! That foam sandwich did look tasty.
I tried a bit... It looks better that it tastes! 😂
Wow this model is on par with Kotobukiya! Your perseverance paid off!!!!
Thanks so much!
Deceptively simple builds always come out to bite me! I love the variety of techniques you used to get the final result. Well done, Dr.
Thank you very much!
I've seen many folks use non-shrinking drywall spackle, and a few use acrylic premix tile grout ( with water polishing ) for difficult angles like that.
Great tip! Thanks!
II am impressed with how you overcame the challenges of this build and made a great looking model. 3D printing is fine but there is nothing like making something from sheet styrene and various parts to come up with a unique model. Excellent work Dr.! Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you very much!
Oh man this one definitely pushed your patience lol but looks fantastic
Tell me about it 😂
But I learned so that's what matters (even if i didn't do it in the smartest way...)
Glad you persevered!!!! Looks amazing! Nice work!
Yes, thank you
@@DRToysCreations you are very welcome !
This build looked tuff! I really appreciate you showing your process and the struggle - not just the parts that work out how you hoped they would.
Awesome, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Interesting subject matter, have not seen a build quite like this before. Great work
Thank you very much!
Your channel deserves a lot more subscribers. Always quality content
I appreciate that! Thanks.
All that pain and frustration was worth it in the end, it turned out great! 👍🏻😊 I was also laughing because I’m sure the workers at the dollar store were thinking, “Sheesh, this guy must REALLY love seasoning!!!” LOL 😂
Totally! And I'm so cheap I saved it in a ziploc bag! 😂
another great build love the problem solving
Thanks 👍
Nice one again. Perhaps heat forming thin styrene would have pleased you as well doing the concave shape.
I like the paint job very much. The yelow realy pos. Well done great video
Great idea, I'm pretty limited on my tools, I tried using a hair dryer but it just wasn't hot enough. I am slowly getting new tools the more I get into this.
I have to admit, I wondered how you were going to get a whole video out of such a simple build. Oh my gosh! Deceptively simple design, but it was awesome to see the gears turning on the problem solving machine. (Oh, and my wife and I love the 80’s style intro!)
This one definitely took a ton of problem solving…😅
Thanks for watching!
You really put some work into that one by the looks of the video, and it came out pretty dang cool. Great Job.
Thanks so much.
Hay it's Rob 2oldgeekstalking. You done an Awesome job. That's a cool prop to have.
HI Rob, Thanks so much!
I feel your pain. Like I said before, sometimes the projects you think are gonna be simple turn out to be more difficult then expected. Good job.
And yes, spheres, or curved surfaces, are tricky. Been doing quite a bit of curved work lately. Ugh.
Thanks.
Yeah, at the start I thought this id pretty straight forward and should be pretty easy but it definitely presented some challenges but that ok because that's how we learn! 😃
How about a Halloween build
Make a monsterizer style lab table.
Great job DR Fran... TOYS!!!
My wife just asked me if i was gonna do a Halloween build... I think I will need to do something. 😃
Another great build you may want to try using the thermal plastic pellets they work great for making weird shapes keep up the good work and stay safe my friend.
Thanks for the tip!
The final result was excellent and thanks for sharing the downs that were part of this build.
You are an inspiration to trash bash newbies like myself. Thank you.
And all of STAR WARS Visions is excellent by the way.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I agree, they are so good.
Thanks!
Well done 👍🏾
Thank you 🙌
It looks so good, you nailed it, great work as always 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Looks cool! I think you did a fantastic job! Model on!
Thank you so much 😀
@@DRToysCreations modeling is like a puzzle at times, and you have to step back to see the bigger picture! 😆
Bravo!
Thanks!
This turned out great! The majority of builders these days use 3D, I'm glad to see you come up with very successful work arounds as we did years ago. Enjoyed your video!
Thank you very much!
Awesome build!!
Thanks!
Dave - another great build. I love your thought process and the trial and error aspects of your build.
As for Visions, the first Episode has SO MANY great potential custom figures! It was my favorite of the episodes.
Thanks! Yeah, I've been doing a lot of pausing the show and taking pictures! 😂
@@DRToysCreations For sure! I also liked the Astro Boy homage episode. Great series. I hope you make some more Visions inspired toys! Cheers.
I wonder if the Death Star was a bugger to work with. Great build.
I never noticed that but it does have a Death Star vibe... Thanks for watching!
12:43 the weathering was so perfect there, I would not have repaint it haha
😂 That thought totally crossed my mind as well!
Great job tjst GW PAINT
is great for brush8ng on leaves no brush strokes looks sprayed on
Thanks!
Awesome build Doc, I'm not familiar with the series I'll have to check it out. Great video, some really helpful tips, very cool watching you work thru it. Improvise, Adapt and overcome. 😁👍
Thanks Andy! Improvise, Adapt and overcome is the story of our life! 😂
Pretty. Cool
Thanks 🙏
We gotta make another group project with bots made from scratch!
Totally!
@@DRToysCreations Whenever you are ready ^^
I just got accepted for a booth at Designer Con in Anaheim CA in November… what the heck was I thinking!!! 😂 I’ve never done a trade show so I have a ton of work ahead of me! Should be fun though!
@@DRToysCreations Trade show aka you gotta bring stuff that you can sell?
That’s the plan…😂 I have no clue if people will buy it but it’s something I gotta try.
Hola amigo buenísimo tu canal saludos desde Chile
Thank you! Greetings from Colorado.
Awesome build as always 🤘🏼.... Suggestion, hopefully you see this.. I would love to see you attempt the Robots from the film "Batteries Not Included" or at least you take on it. Have a great day
I love that idea!!! I was 11 when that came out... Short Circuit😃 was another one of my favorites! I keep a list of all the projects want to do and kust put it in as a must do! Thanks!
@@DRToysCreations hey no problem! Yup Johnny 5 was awesome as well. I think you're the man to pull those off 😎
Great work, man! Sphere's definitely do have a trick to them to work with them well. Your solution is a good one, and works well! I love all the new droids we're getting with Visions
Thank you! Yeah, I know there's a mathematical way to figure out the sphere thing but unfortunately I stink at math! 😂
Awesome new droid build Dr.!! I haven't seen the show you mentioned, but I like the design of this droid, has a sort of Eva (from WALL-E) vibe to it.
I am very glad to see you stuck with it till the vwry end, that final result is really awesome! To get the concave of the eye sockets, did you try the easter egg? I would have thought cutting a small section of the egg, or the other clear ornament, might have given you the effect you were looking for.
Excellent build and video, looks like you had fun, learned a thing or two and successfully completed the project. Can't ask for anything more, can you? Great stuff, thanks for sharing, stay safe and keep on keeping on!!
Thanks! So the egg itself wouldn't work for the concave shape because I actually had two concave shapes in the same area/cut out. I had the larger concave shape and the smaller shape, kinda like a figure eight... someone suggested the same thing with a ping pong ball and while there may be a solution there my brain wasn't finding it so I went with the Sculpey. 😃
You need a circle curtter for Paper using
And heavy papet
I know what your talking about but because of the unique shape I don't think it would have helped with all the special cuts... But yeah, there are so many amazing tools I would love to get my hands on! 😃👍
Dollar Tree are now convinced you are smoking that steak spice, after two visits in one day...
😂
Have you been watching Book of Boba Fett on Disney+? Ive been thinking of creating a custom rat catcher droid 🤔
I have! As soon as I saw him i thought the same exact thing. 😂
I just have so many other projects and not enough time...
Did remove the sculpty to bake it
Yes. 😃
How about you try T0 B1 next?
I just watched that one. I like that one as well.
@@DRToysCreations yeah it was a good episode
Je fait la même chose que toi récemment j'ai finis le Nautilus dans 20.000 lieues sous les mers 🌊 🌊 🌊 🌊
Sounds awesome! thanks
From the point you will have a 3D printer, your crafting will transform into a different process. Less trash bashing, more 3D modeling. But your hosting will be funny anyway.
Yeah, to be honest I'm on a computer doing graphic design all day so when I work on my personal projects I don't really want to be on a computer anymore... I like the hands on trash bashing a lot!!! 😃
@@DRToysCreations Please stick with the scratchbuilding/trashbashing!! Using found/made items gives a better, more organic (if a droid build can be called organic?🙃), feel to the project. Also, it allows for more creative freedom (imho) in the end result.

😂 Thanks!
