    In this family vlog we just got the GQF Digital Sportsman 1502 cabinet series incubator & this is just what we needed here on the homestead to be able to hatch the quail & poultry that we want to hatch. In years past we have not been able to really handle a lot of eggs, bc of the limited space our smaller incubators had, but now with the GQF 1502 Sportsman Incubator, we should be to handle any egg hatching job that we want to handle.
    The GQF Sportsman 1502 offers an accurate digital thermostat with LCD display of Temperature and Humidity. An on-board computer monitors systems and the environment every second to keep itself updated and to share this data with you. Electronic egg turning control, audio & visual indicators and a standard easy view door highlight a number of standard features. This is a complete incubator and hatcher. In addition to having three automatically turned racks, it has a hatching tray in the bottom of the incubator. So if you are just getting started with a small flock, all you need is this one incubator. Set the eggs each week or so and then hatch the oldest setting eggs at the same time. Settings are rotated among the three turning trays so that the hatching tray can accept the eggs from one of the setting trays each cycle.

    I have 2 of the 1502's. Big change of hatching rates! My first hatch was 60 Pekin eggs. THEY ALL HATCHED! The eggs were laid here so I'm sure that helps. I can tell you it's easy to over hatch. I require a deposit now I've been stuck with chicks a few times because folks back out.

  • @dalehenderson3526

    I started hatching quail last year. Not the bobwhite but corturnix. My first hatch rate was a little less than 50%. But since then I've been spraying my eggs before I incubate them with a water and hydrogen peroxide mix. And now I have about a 90% hatch rate. My little spray bottle holds about a cup of water and I put a couple tablespoons on peroxide in that. Another thing the baby quail are so small even regular starter feed can be too big for them. So I put in in a magic bullet and grind it down a bit for them.

    I'm learning so much from you'll about chickens, quail, and how to care for them. Thank you for that. But something that I haven't heard you address is what to do with the eggs that don't hatch. Do you throw them away in trash? Compost? What about when you candle them early and they're not viable? Can they be boiled and fed to pigs or dogs?

    • @CogHillFarm
      @CogHillFarm  4 роки тому +1

      We don’t compost the eggshells bc they really will take years to break down enough for plants, and earthworms hate them and avoid them. So we just break them up and throw them in the woods or you can crush them and throw them in the oven at 350 for 5-10 minutes and this is a good source of calcium for them👍

    Hi there I’m wondering if you can help me out? I’ve ordered some chickens from a hatchery (first flock) - they have blue layers but they are calling them Azure Blue” as the breed name- I can’t find any info on this type of chicken. Is it a slang or blanket name for any breeds that lay blue eggs. Any insight you can provide I would bee so grateful. Happy farming!

    • @CogHillFarm
      @CogHillFarm  4 роки тому +1

      I’m guessing 1 of 2 things: So this is what I’ve found about a lot of hatcheries. They will buy a lot their chicks from the same place & just call them something different from all the other Hatcheries for marketing purposes, or the other thing is it could a certain hybrid breed that they came out with and may have a patent on it and they are the only one that carries it and that’s why it’s not much out there. Hope this helped 👍👍👍
