  • @cademe
    @cademe 4 роки тому +1

    From what I understand, Coturnix quail are too domesticated to hatch their own chicks for the most part. You might get lucky and have some interested, but usually not. And if they do go broody, they don't usually make it all the way to hatch.
    But if any of your bantam or silkies go broody, I've seen people use them to hatch quail!

    When I had quail for fun pets the male would dig a hole under a bush, line it with twigs and leaves. Miss Prissy would come over and inspect it. If she didn't like it she would walk away. He'd have to dig another and another until she would finally sit in it. Then she laid 10 eggs and that 10th day she would start sitting.
    I did not know they were hatched 3 weeks ago
    I would have been there already. Now I'm not ready. I have baby chickens in my small brooder. But even if they are older I do want some Georgia giants.

    Quail is my favorite poultry! To raise and eat. Coturnix quail have been bred in Asia for 1000's of years and basically the broodines has been bred out of them. Native wild quail do brood their young. Since your birds are part bob white they may go broody. I had my silkie sit some quail eggs. Only one hatched, I didn't have her broody pen set up for quail and the baby couldn't get back in the nest box. So I ended up putting the quail chick in my brooder with the ones I incubated. I hope to try again when they go broody again. There are videos of Silkies brooding quail. Check them out. MC would love it! Thanks for sharing! Blessings ~Marella
