Spray Painting Brembo Calipers With VHT Anodized Paint

I wanted to capture the process it took for me to re spray paint my calipers using VHT Anodized Paint. Most of the footage is captured with my iPhone. The beginning close ups were shot with a Nikon Z 105mm Marco Lens. I couldn't find a lot of videos specifically on the Anodized paint, so I figured I'd shoot one - Darrell J.
Products Used:
320 Grit Sand Paper (I sanded twice)
3 Coats of VHT High Temp Primer (waited 30 mins before adding color coat)
4 Coats of VHT Andozied Base Silver "SP453" Coat (I waited almost an hour to add anodized blue color)
8 Coats, mostly tack coats, of VHT Anodized Blue "SP451"

I just dis my calipers in the Duplicolor Metalcast anodized blue just like this.. what i learned is when i sprayed my clear coat it did matte the finish, so what you have to do is spray a bit closer and spray it as wet coats, you cant do light mist sprays it has to be heavier wet coats and that will keep it glossy.

great vid. what happens if I don't use the base coat silver and just go straight to the blue after just the primer?

Thanks! Well the base Silver coat is recommended if what you’re spraying is non metal OR the surface your spraying is already painted. So if you don’t use the silver base before applying the blue coat and what your spraying does not already have a chrome finish or shiny metal, the finish may look flat and not have an anodized finish. Hope that helps!

Primer is not necessary if painting over old paint. Those minor scratches you made by sanding are good enough to hold. Sand - base coat silver - anodize color coat will make it look good.

How have these held up? Are they chipping at all after a year?

Pretty good actually. A few chips but that’s from me removing wheels or rocks from driving; it’s not from the paint itself

How many cans did you use?
Primer and paint?

I think I used one can of primer? And about a can and a half of the silver base and about 2 cans of the anodized blue but only because once the cans get close to empty the paint doesn’t spray as even.
