We've got the Scorpio and notched a few k's already. It's what I would call Agricultural, it's a tractor. It rides like a ute on country roads but is still comfortable and quiet. It feels tough and reliable. It has the minimum tech, which means less to go wrong, and has a great stereo that's easy to use. If you're after a tough old rig without the cruiser price tag, I would definitely recommend. If you're a granny driver who needs a car to drive itself, buy a Honda.
Not a family man myself but can see the benifit of a 6 seater to a 7 seater. Most people i think would prefer a more comfortable 2nd row with two captains chairs, i think its more snazzy too. Mahindra should keep the 6 seat layout in their update and have the 7 seat as a no cost or low cost optin
I own Scorpio N Z8L Top ten Auto Diesel. Adrenox is a connect car feature that let's you do a host of stuff - Switch on, lock/unlock doors, open window etc. I have clocked 12k kms so far in 4 Months that I have owned this car. For context, my previous car was a MPV with 7 seat option and one that I have is a 8-seater (mid bench). The storage space is a big letdown, but having said that more than 90% of time you won't need the last row. It can be unscrewed or kept folded. Integrated roof rack is the best accessory to add. I had full load of 7-8 passengers during 2 occasions and didn't find any significant lag in the performance of the autobox. Also the driving on freeways and highways for longer duration is easy and comfortable due the excellent ride quality for a ladder-frame, the suspension set-up and seat padding. The car is already rated at 5 star for crash test as well as has better visibility overall. I always preferred to have a vehicle that keeps you alert than being overtly dependent on tech for lane assist or collision control as it makes drives complaisant and less alert. The sheet metal is thick and adequately stiffened as well as ride is perfectly balanced for it's size and dimensions.
Great vehicle for the money, I'd remove the 3rd row completely. Active safty is for people who can't drive. I've been driving for 50 plus years, including 35 years as a Paramedic. Didn't have active safty no problem.

Hopefully the next generation or facelift gets lane follow and radar cruise. Honestly for the price, it's a pretty good all-rounder and looks generally comfy with good sound deadening. I think this is a great car for those looking for a family car/daily, but yearning to explore a bit of 4WD life (some camping, towing the dirt bikes, trips and basic tracks etc).
Adrenox is Mahindras corporate Infotainment UI, which is brand new and used in their high end offerings like the XUV700 and Scorpio N (Top trips only), supposed to feel a lot plush, premium, intuitive and eye pleasing compared to the basic software offered in lower trims. however those lower trims does get Apple carplay and android auto just like this one. We were especially keen on the Scorpio N and test drove it for about 30 mins. We were so happy that a car was coming to market without all the pseudo 'non'safety rubbish. I'm an Indian and about to buy the scorpio n. Your review has been the most comprehensive. That includes acceleration braking and roll on figures. It's been two years and we are yet to see an Indian auto journalist churn out these figures. And great shoot location 😊
Thanks Paul for your review. I did test drive today. Sadly i did not have a pleasant experience. After initial smooth drive, I felt i needed to put extra pressure on the accelerator when it started from the complete hault, e.g, at a cross section. At one trafgic light signal i felt it did not go beyond 20 km per hour even after pressing accelerator hard. Even the dealer did not know what it was. Has any one experienced any trouble during test drive. They had only Z8 model by the way. I might go for another test drive later on after few weeks. Thanks.
I had exactly the same unnerving experience when I did my first test drive a month ago. I did a second test drive with a different Scorpio and want an issue but I don’t really like stop-stop engines. But the build quality and comfort really impressed me but I’m only 90% decided. This week will be big decision between this or a more established Japanese brand. Big differences!
@nogurunomethodnoteachervan3515 @nogurunomethodnoteachervan3515 thanks. Did you do a test drive in Australia? As you said, stop and on feature in the engine is not as smooth as in European brands like Mercedes. Build quality seems nice. I am in double mind too, will have another test drive to make a decision.
Hey Paul, The Adrenox is the Mahindra's latest infotainment software name. As they since started offereing since couple of years ago they started giving them on most of their new products. Thankyou.
Here is it atlast. 100% agree on the review I was about to purchase until I saw the loading bay. I have an xtrail and its loading bay is completely flat. SUV in Aus is used for moving bikes to things from ikea and I was surprised they over looked it. I think its targeted towards regional buyers who dont care abt all thise techs and xuv 700 is targeted for the urban buyers. Will wait for XUV 700 !!
Mahindra, if you're listening, there are many of us who would like a 'stripped out' more work ready version of a car like this. The changes would include (in my opinion): - quality cloth seats - no sunroof - no infotainment screen - just a functional system with Bluetooth, good speakers and good fm/am radio. - no AEB or lane change. We need abs and traction control. That's all. - steel wheels - 5 seats with a rubber lined boot. It wouldn't have to be cheaper neccesarily, but reliable and reasonably priced dealer support is a must. Thanks 😊
Considering the price... It is an absolutely budget friendly vehicle that everyone can afford...With brilliant road presence... great initiative by mahendra 👍🏻
Interesting vehicle. The price is the attraction of course. Friend is being the L700 I think it is called, but we will see what he thinks of the Scorpio.
Lots of shortfalls. Lack of space is top of the list. No telescopic steering. Door pockets are inaccessible once the door is shut. Bunch of other ergonomic issues. Fit and finish is average. If you can live with all these issues, then it's a good car for the price.
No side airbags ?!! How the hell are they allowed to sell this. Looked impressive and thought It’ll go faster. But amazing off-roader if the other review is to be believed
Guys looking for ADAS in a rugged suv, they are highly not meant for offroading in the first place. Although they hav launched xuv700 with that feature.
With the amount of mobile phone use and distraction today, it is honestly a very useful feature. Whether it warns you when backing into something (rear traffic alert), advises you someone's on your side (eg. motorbike you cannot see) or slows down for you on a motorway if you're not paying attention, why would you want to live without those aids?
Awaiting the midlife update. Looks great although I'm not a fan of the rear styling or swing door but could live with it. Would also remove the rear seats and give myself extra space. But with Mahindra, it's all about functionality. The thing is going to go anywhere and do anything.
Scorpion ain't noones knockoff..... Australia doesn't even have a single automotive brand of their own.....just importing everything like Saudis....😂😂.... irrelevant people
like 12000-13000 KM or 12 months.... less maintaince cost........ do a test ride.... multiple times... then u will decice what to choose..... If U pick Mahindra it is like a TANK
@Vishal Aaron just check my closest mahindra shop... it's like 1 hour away ... in Sydney there's 1 shop down south ... I'm supposed to have to drive it an hour away for a service?... hmm no thanks
I like that auto braking is missing. It can give false readings when you add 4WD extras. Many buyers would be fine to not have it, in fact, it’d be great if you could delete half that stuff and save money and maybe get your car sooner! We can all drive fine without it and if not, catch the bus!!
Heard Apple car play software update was released last week. Also as per facebook owners group the camera lag was also fixed with .75 firmware upgrade. The video quality was great.
I think the kind of people who are looking at a New Scorpio are far more likely to be considering one as an option instead of a 2nd hand Prado than an $80k new Everest. Worth noting that you can draw a lot of similarities between a 10 year old Prado and a new top of the line Scorpio, they have similar power and torque (though the Scorpio is much faster), same towing capacity and a similar amount of safety tech with 10 year Prados rarely having radar Cruise or autonomous emergency braking either. The Scorpio has a less practical interior but it's a new SUV for old SUV money
Hey @paulmaric Did you see if the DEF tank is too low and exposed? And do you think the car has enough underbody protection to not get damaged by stones etc offroad?
I can see the lack of active safety features being a deal breaker for many people. Not a big fan of the looks either (that rear end looks hideous). The local ride and handling tune was a nice surprise but it's straight up underpowered. Off road capabilities can be the only reason to even consider one, otherwise there're many better options.
Like most things out of India, build to a budget and poor quality control. It's worth spending a bit more on the competition which is miles ahead in every aspect
You probably need to learn what 4x4 enthusiasts say about Mahindra.... They're used by QLD Parks and WIldlife and in Australia's mines for a reason. Also judging build quality should be done on mechanicals too. Because underside these things are very solid and adequately rust protected. They're the world's biggest tractor manufacturer and have been around since 1947. I've had Subarus, Toyotas, Mercedes, Nissans.... they've all had cosmetic issues here or there.
@@G-Man01 I was actually considering a mahindra, as the mechanicals are good and I like the look but what let's this down is the cosmetic side of things, and it's ability to be legally used by most people who want to get away in their 4wd (500ish kg payload is absolutely garbage and one of the main reasons I crossed this off my list).
Why don’t Chinese Vehicles or this brand have DAB+… yeah you can use phone but not while driving, I like having my favourite stations all loaded up ready to go
Excellent review. Is the 4x4 video ready? with regards to AI safety , I had a Rav4 rental in NZ with all the AI safety and was totally annoying. Finally I had to turn them off to focus on the road.
Bench seats, ADAS systems are missing simply because of chip and components shortage the demand of the new Scorpio N, XUV 700 and thar is huge, waiting period thats extends upto 2 yrs
The lack of AEB and lane keeper is a BIG tick for me. The AEB on a hired Nissan almost killed me when, driving at high speed on an Italian motorway, through a two-lane tunnel, the system decided the wall to my left and the truck to my right constituted an imminent accident and so slammed on the brakes. Being Italy, I had a nose-to-tail queue of ex F1 drivers hanging off my rear bumper. Thankfully, they made better decisions than my Nissan's onboard computer so I'm here to tell the tale. As for lane departure warning, that just about has to be THE most irritating new feature on modern cars, closely followed by the orchestra of bings, bongs and beeps that cars now produce, to remind me I'm an idiot or that my wife is getting in the passenger's seat. So, if that 3rd row bench is removeable, a Scorpio might well be the replacement for my X-Trail, pending test drive.
It sounds like the Scorpio is a car that many would like to like, but fails disastrously in some critical areas like safety, quality, and practicality. That folding seat arrangement looks like an absolute nightmare to live with. Still, nothing seems insurmountable so maybe in an update, those issues can be addressed. Over my many years, the only vehicles I see regularly filled to seating capacity are buses: people-movers and those cars and/or wagons that have seating for more than 5 I rarely see fully-loaded. I think I've only ever seen a handful where the rearmost seat is in use, and yet in forums, many are decrying the lack of 7-seat capacity in a newly-released vehicle.
Nice observation Michael. Coming from India, I would like this car to do good in Australia (my home now). However, few things need to be fixed before one can hope so, like safety features, especially the third row airbags and autonomous breaking. I'm an Indian and about to buy the scorpio n. Your review has been the most comprehensive. That includes acceleration braking and roll on figures. It's been two years and we are yet to see an Indian auto journalist churn out these figures. And great shoot location 😊
What do you think of it after buying?
I am in double mind too, will have another test drive to make a decision.
maybe because it is a diesel 2.2? Pajero sport is the same or Triton. takes a bit to take off
Hey Paul,
The Adrenox is the Mahindra's latest infotainment software name. As they since started offereing since couple of years ago they started giving them on most of their new products.
Thankyou.
This has promise... best to wait for the facelift and more metro dealers especially in Victoria. For now the Rexton is a better budget buy.
The changes would include (in my opinion):
- quality cloth seats
- no sunroof
- no infotainment screen - just a functional system with Bluetooth, good speakers and good fm/am radio.
- no AEB or lane change. We need abs and traction control. That's all.
- steel wheels
- 5 seats with a rubber lined boot.
It wouldn't have to be cheaper neccesarily, but reliable and reasonably priced dealer support is a must.
Thanks 😊
Z2 is the varient then 😅. You can add a infotainment screen from outside but unfortunately not available in Australia
And side airbags in the rear rows
Sold my Toyota fortuner and bought Scorpio N...awsm decision
Considering the price... It is an absolutely budget friendly vehicle that everyone can afford...With brilliant road presence... great initiative by mahendra 👍🏻
Adrinox is the software used in the infotainment unit provided inside the car ❤
Given how much the auto industry has advanced and the competition, just what were they thinking with that weird seating, storage, and design?
Interesting vehicle. The price is the attraction of course. Friend is being the L700 I think it is called, but we will see what he thinks of the Scorpio.
total trash
Lots of shortfalls. Lack of space is top of the list. No telescopic steering. Door pockets are inaccessible once the door is shut. Bunch of other ergonomic issues. Fit and finish is average. If you can live with all these issues, then it's a good car for the price.
Hi Paul, could you please review the LDV D90 and Haval H9? Thanks
The H9 is no longer sold in Australia.
@@GlowingTube prb they r replacing it with tank500
No side airbags ?!! How the hell are they allowed to sell this. Looked impressive and thought It’ll go faster. But amazing off-roader if the other review is to be believed
None in the rear, only in the front. They should have been compulsory on all vehicles, including commercial vans, for the last 10 years!
Guys looking for ADAS in a rugged suv, they are highly not meant for offroading in the first place. Although they hav launched xuv700 with that feature.
Hey Paul, the AdrenoX badge is there to signify the connected car in the infotainment system.
Solid chassis and great steel body..Now for the price it's quite good. The other things like small gaps one is won't even notice after 2 months..
I’m all for safety improvements, but I’d wish to see how much AEB really improves on safety. Find it super intrusive and distracting in my car…
AdrenoX signifies the infotainment system in there
Heyyy Paul are you are you reviewing that amarok , can't wait
WOW, this car literally checks all the boxes and is affordable. Seems like it'll be a hit in Australia.
It's shit
You know times are tough in 🇦🇺 when car market is flooded with 🇨🇳 and 🇮🇳 knockoffs…
Scorpion ain't noones knockoff..... Australia doesn't even have a single automotive brand of their own.....just importing everything like Saudis....😂😂.... irrelevant people
When will you take tis off-road for a test, please?
Tomorrow!
What's the service schedule? Shame about the radar cruise...
But 45k .. this is pretty good..
You need to do a comparison with other budget 4x4.
like 12000-13000 KM or 12 months.... less maintaince cost........ do a test ride.... multiple times... then u will decice what to choose..... If U pick Mahindra it is like a TANK
@Vishal Aaron just check my closest mahindra shop... it's like 1 hour away ... in Sydney there's 1 shop down south ... I'm supposed to have to drive it an hour away for a service?... hmm no thanks
@@smdnsnnd7254 definitely cham,,, I will visit your service station
It’s also cheaper than a mid-spec 10 year old Prado.
Agree better off with a Ssangyong Rexton if you're after a 7 seat off roader
Paul, If you want to play around with these things called vehicles then do LDV D90 test
They keep declining when we ask for a car.
Try TATA Herrier as well
Very solid SUV Car
Respecting all other comments in this post. It clearly would have more takers ! if only this was sold in an Indian grocery store in AU.
I also think Mahindra shd look for safety in Aus like countries where it matters the most
U know scorpio is five star rated ¿
AdrenoX is the connected car feature that Mahindra offers.
The engine power is a bit of a deterrent for me, especially on the highway.
Thanks, Paul. Now I can't unsee the scorpion's tail chrome trim along the sides.
Like most things out of India, build to a budget and poor quality control. It's worth spending a bit more on the competition which is miles ahead in every aspect
Most things like?
You probably need to learn what 4x4 enthusiasts say about Mahindra.... They're used by QLD Parks and WIldlife and in Australia's mines for a reason. Also judging build quality should be done on mechanicals too. Because underside these things are very solid and adequately rust protected. They're the world's biggest tractor manufacturer and have been around since 1947. I've had Subarus, Toyotas, Mercedes, Nissans.... they've all had cosmetic issues here or there.
@@G-Man01 FOR REAL?
@@G-Man01 I was actually considering a mahindra, as the mechanicals are good and I like the look but what let's this down is the cosmetic side of things, and it's ability to be legally used by most people who want to get away in their 4wd (500ish kg payload is absolutely garbage and one of the main reasons I crossed this off my list).
@@suma8406 yes.
I think it's a nice car.Worth the money but the only reason I want by is because there is no boots space six seats requires boot space for 6 people ?
Why don’t Chinese Vehicles or this brand have DAB+… yeah you can use phone but not while driving, I like having my favourite stations all loaded up ready to go
Excellent review. Is the 4x4 video ready? with regards to AI safety , I had a Rav4 rental in NZ with all the AI safety and was totally annoying. Finally I had to turn them off to focus on the road.
Safety it’s important indeed
I think you are the first aussie to preview deeply on scorpioN....
As if most people who buy this isn’t going to remove the back row?
Can you please review XUV700 ?
Logo looking a bit like the cupra one. 45k? I’ll give you 29
👏👏👏👏👏👍
Baru tahu mahindra masuk Australia, semoga masuk ke Indonesia juga
Honest review, appreciate 🙌🏼
When you look at it with it's price in context, it makes sense.
Won't be competing with someone.
Great VFM with 5 ⭐ GNCAP!
ADRENOX is internet and app based features for car.
Adrenox is the infotainment software branding from mahindra 4:54
Good one...surprising Mahindra missed on the safety features ...but it seems this is a good offroader with its auto-diff lock ...any comments on that?
Off-road video goes live tomorrow.
@@CarExpertAus cant wait! enjoy your video reviews!
this car have 1 year waiting period in India. not only this but almost all car of mahindra
I’m so happy to see a Mahindra in Australia.
Bench seats, ADAS systems are missing simply because of chip and components shortage the demand of the new Scorpio N, XUV 700 and thar is huge, waiting period thats extends upto 2 yrs
Could you do a review of this year's LDV D90 it got a minor facelift for 2023 models
Fun fact b4 scorpioN Mahindra used to sell the Rexton by the name of Alturas G4
Look🔥🔥
My next upgrade from my Renault Captur. I hoping to get this model
Farm vehicle, nothing else.
Needs a lot of upgrades for any serious consideration.
But excellent for 30 years ago...
@Christopher Holden particularly if you want tractor or other agricultural transport
Mahindra Scorpio N is my favourite
Adrenox is Mahindra's latest infotainment system, you will also see that in the upcoming Mahindra XUV700
Cant seem to find the offroad review in the description 🙈
Hey Paul adrenox is a system developed by Mahindra so that you can be connected to your car 😊
Can you please review ldv mifa petrol. Heard its a such a good car.
Can you please do a similar 0-100-0 test for the XUV700 ?
Nice episode 👍

I also feel that it should be a 7 seater for it to be a proper family SUV
