Mahindra is actually a very reliable brand. I don’t think except the Japanese any other brand can beat mahindras reliability. Also you won’t have problems with spare parts. Reliability and confidence being the reason Toyota is all the rage in India.

I cant give my opinion on the Tank, but it seems to be very good off road. I am a very happy owner of a Scorpio N, and after driving it on road for over 6000 km I can honestly say its a very economical vehicle with a very smooth comfortable ride, and this in comparison with a Prado. Fuel consumption 9l/100 km average, Prado rarely under 10, avearge 10,5. Switch off the stop start before you move. And yes the propshaft vibrated but was fixed. And about safety, with its high prfile tires and full size spare its much safer than a low profile SUV with no spare. So for lang trips I will rather use the Mahindra as I will stand 10 min next to the road vs a day in some very safe SUV’s. So for me it is safer than many low profile SUV’s.

Scorpio has much better softer ride than fortuner on road. But it has major basic flaws life ground clearance and the rear seat layout. They should have made it fold flat.
the Mahindra seems the better option, looks like a car that will last, carry more people and is cheaper. the tank breaking system seems dangerous and safety feature look dangerous and tedious to turn off every drive

Yes mahindra is far better

8:55 There is a cover over the central console storage, once you have removed that cover you can find more space underneath.
That boot space on the Mahindra… that and the Interior…
As an Indian, I must say, the Tank isn't bad. Infact for the price and the features both seems to be at par. Yes, the Mahindra boot space and the space utilisation sucks. I own one and know how living with one is. But yes the engine is smooth, ride comfortable and easy on the pocket. There are things that Mahindra could have done better, but then Mahindra cars are known for reliability. The Tank looks awesome, interiors looks great too, its just the payload I feel should have been better.
so why do you have to state 'As an Indian' whats the relevance? Did you designed the car? Or because the other car is made in China so you feel inferior
@@COD0307 he just having pride for his home brand. what u mad for?
@@COD0307 No as an Indian we are very proud of Mahindra. People are very touchy here when it comes to Tata and Mahindra. Don't get me wrong, they do make good cars, but I think they still got a lot to do if they need to sell cars outside India. These cars are great in India, but would find it hard to sell outside India. I myself drive a Scorpio N so I very well know its flaws. The tank, we don't get it here. But yes at a few dollars more, the Tank makes more sense in Australia, with their driving conditions and safety norms. Im just proud of what Mahindra has done, building this as a side project considering that their actual money comes from farm equipment and trucks. The Indian brands being inferior to a Chinese brand is a bit hilarious. You just had to bring in racist angle. I acknowledged both of the cars shortcomings and their positives as an Indian, who likes it when they see their brands represented outside of the country
I removed my 3rd row of seats just two days back to do a long haul drive 900 kms with a fridge and sofa chair at the back. The space saved is.... Tremendous. Also the weight savings will accrue to better FE over time. Consider doing this if you are not a 'big' family man =)

Please do this same comparison after 50k miles including off-road, including after sales maint cost.
The Tank 300 has many off road UA-cam videos from outback China, in Chinese, which shows it - out of the box - competing with and sometimes matching or beating very expensive rivals.
Wish it was available as an electric version

The stop start switches engine off after 30 sec.
This is not a software problem, you need to turn the ignition key to start position or press engine start button
Those rear seats in the tank fold down forward to increase your cargo area ie for camping gear still fit swag and marquee 1500 long folded up.
there is no comparison, Tank 300 is only priced lower to capture market share as a new entrant to the market, materials to technology are way ahead of rivals. Other the other hand only a few thousand cheaper only the Scorpio is literally designed for low price no refill and no choosing market。people buys scorpio are families on budget
And its far more reliable 😂
@2:46 the Mahindra running board is bent. Not ideal after some soft offloading.
To be fair it's the first thing to get hit in most cars when off-roading.
Does Thar have rear lockers? Front lockers? Does it have good suspension flex? It will need those to beat the Tank.
Just remember that if you have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto you don’t need digital radio as you can use any one of a number of apps to stream it.
Also digital radio isn’t that great. It’s patchy and doesn’t work remotely unless it satellite radio like in the U.S.
in fact I find not far out of Brisbane digital radio just fails. Only seems to work in the city so it’s a bit pointless.
That Scorpio rear bench seat really should fold flat into the floor - my 3rd row does even with the spare tyre underneath the back.
I drove a Tank 300 for an hour. Very nice. I’d not buy one myself but I was impressed for what it is.
I have noticed the phrase Value for money or just Value being bandied about a lot recently. Typically when used the meaning is just Cheap or lowest price.
Eg. A $90,000 vehicle with specs and quality of a $120,000 vehicle is better Value than a cheaper $80,000 vehicle with only the specs and quality of a $100,000 vehicle. Value for money - the more expensive $90k one wins.
If they mean cheap just say cheap. Don’t say value when you mean cheapest or cheaper.
The Tank 300 is the better value proposition.
Really feels like greatwall (GWM) hit a real winner without relying solely on price. If you were thinking about waiting for a 4 door Jimny, then the tank would be a worthy alternative
It's a big step forward for GWM, for sure. - Sam

Review is from the angle of a family car and it is quite accurate toh, but if we see it from the perspective of a couple or a lone wolf their could be different opinions in terms of practicality with just slight adjustments, in the ScorpioN third row off and always an option to bend second row as well you get a huge boot space that can used as a camper too and not to forget the engine difference which can make a lot of difference in long trips and off roading.
I think the other SUV that is in this group is the SSangyong Rexton ELX. Thoughts.?

Pls try to know something about Hongqi before buying a Chinese junk.
i will prefer scorpio more good looking and all rounder
i & ifamely like tank ,,, this better, safe, n value for money,,,,,thank u
Great review as always Sam, though I need to point out one very important factor you forgot to mention. Reliability. You only need to read the numerous group forums on the Mahindra Scorpio N sites to read owners concerns over build quality i.e., misaligned/excessive panel gaps, orange peel to paint, bad fitment of rubber seals around doors and windows and just recently, a major recall of this Scorpio and the XUV 700 to replace 11-12 bolts from the torque converter back down the drive shaft. Definitely a deal breaker for me. Oh, the only complaints from the Tank 300 members forums, is that they can't buy them fast enough! Bring on the Tank 300 PHEV!!
Most importantly, would you buy a car with 0 star in ANCAP safety rating?
Mahindra have historically been reliable, however they were utilitarian and basic. Now that they want to transition to lifestyle motoring they need to understand that the clientele is sophisticated and expects more.
I think they wanted to ride the Chinese vehicle wave and they brought the Scorpio N too soon to market. While it's a big improvement compared to the previous model, it has major deficiencies.
Thanks for the note and comments around ownership, are these owner groups on Facebook or elsewhere?
@@SamCouperMahindra Scorpio n has 5 star global ncap rating.
Poor ass.....tra...😂😂😂
@@devendersuhag6968 GCap is only used in India. It has been a notorious standard that the safety rating can be purchased via corrupt official. No one recognise GCAP outside India
Tank reminds me of ford Bronco....
Should be the other way around, Ford Bronco reminds me of Tank.😂
@@tacticalaccountanttobe joke as crappy as Chinese brands 😂😂😂
Scorpio N has cult following along with Thar 🔥
Is it useful to compare Mahindra with tank300? It is an insult to tank300.
its an insult to Toyota
mahindra should launch THAR for competition
We'd love to see the Thar in Australia. There would be a huge appetite for something like that here.
They got sued by Jeep for copying the Wrangler, so no, they can't sell to any overseas markets😂
Every review the Tank 300 is a clear winner
Mahindra means reliability, decent features , family friendly but still affordable
If Mahindra Thar had been there instead of Scorpio, it would have been better because the price of Mahindra Thar is also reasonable and it is a strong off-roader.
Great review Sam
Something different to think about
My dad preference Is for the tank 300
Thanks!
What else a Chinese crap would love , Copied cars , Copied phones , Copied clothes , Chinese just hate to enjoy original things . 😜😜😜 Poor crappy Chinese 🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳
The only safety tech the Mahindra has is a statue of Ganesh on the dash. Pray to it to avoid accidents.
Hahahaha😂😂
