My mom played TOP religiously when I was growing up, and I have the best memories dancing & singing in the front row as a little kid! Tom Bowes was my first crush. Still love these guys, they’re legendary ❤
Thank you so much for posting this absolute classic performance. Tom Bowes is utterly transcendent. What a voice. What a band. We will never see their like again. How blessed we are to have had them. A stage crammed full of outstanding talent and virtuosity.
Tom Bowles sure brought so much energy to the this talented group. I heard them live many times, and Tom Bowles made them special. The horns are awesome!
Can you imagine having Tom Bowes with the Band right after Hubert Tubbs Left the Band. Led Thornberg did a great job after Mic Gillette Left the Band, but Lee didn't Play Trombone. And nobody Played Mic's Chair like him ever again. Mic was a Phenomenal Brass Player and we all miss him greatly. Mic was my Mentor and now I am 60 yrs old, what happened?? In 2003 when Mic went on Tour with The Doobie Brothers, I subbed for him with The Sons of Champlin for 3 yrs and I want everyone to know that Mic Gillette did so much for our youth by all of the Clinics that he did and helped to Raise Money for the Band Programs. We need more Mic Gillettes, he was my Brother in law, but really just My Brother..
greatest soul band in the word you guys have the greatest musicians that ever lived thank you Emilio Castillo for sharing you music with me and the word and tom bowes vocals are spot on thanks for you're funky and soulful voice God bless TOWER OF POWER
I was 16 years old and went to see this w/ my band buddies from high school. We sat through all that rain and were even tempted to leave before TOP took the stage. Boy am I glad we didn't! Seeing this concert is probably one of the reasons I continued playing trumpet into adulthood.
Tom Bowles - yep he brought the TOP back to life. Lee Thornberg on trumpet made it more exciting!! If you got a certain style even it’s kinda wild!!!! What it going be like!!!
Larry Braggs and Tom Bowes are my two favorite singers with TOP, I was very fortunate to be able to see them about 3 times a year in the city i live in. Mostly summer concerts back from 70s thru early 90s. I saw them with Bowes a lot. One of the best bands ever.
lot of pieces and parts with the T O P , but always , THEY IMPRESS , to hear this sound LIVE , is so very cool , WOW ! JUST AMAZING ! the whole package !
yes had to watch tommy live after listening to cd last nite.he is top 3 lead singer for top all time. saw him several times and loved his stage presence as well as great voice
I've seen this great band 5 times in 50 years. First time when they opened up for Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1972 in San Antonio, Texas. The NEVER dissapoint when they take the stage. RIP Steven K.
Tom Bowes the best vocalist of all time of "Tower of power" history. Incredible timing and vocal diapason and feeling. He is like locomotive what leading all caravan. Unbelievable power ! Master of vocal and timing. Top Bowes is the best !
Thank you so much for posting this! The sound is so good camera work is good and big shout out to the fans in the rain. Such a really really cool video of a very very tight version of this band.
Time of " Tower of Power" with Tom Bowes is the best time of the band. Great feeling and funk ! Timing is amazing ! All musician is so professional and particular in time !
I have been a huge TOP fan since learning of them in the 80s, but never caught Tom Bowes on LP, CD or live. Really just missed this period of TOP. But thanks to UA-cam and seeing this, I am now a huge fan. Damn, his work from 52:11 on thru the end of What is Hip is time vault testimony to inarguably epic monster chops. He is just automatically one cool as hell cat after this bit here. I was so blown away I keep coming back, and its still that amazing. You can tell he delivered all he had and it was so on point.
This was my favorite lineup. Lots of energy, in the pocket with a rocket. The new lineup in 2023 is tired with a vocalist, well put it this way my shoes had more soul.
I saw the same program in 1992 in"Bottom line" New York. Amazing and unforgettable. One time event ! Never before or after. Gold time of TOP with Tom Bowes !
@@miltonshandy Russ McKinnon's solid intricate and syncopated grooves drove what many people call the "funkiest band in the world" ... Tower Of Power. He played with TOP a few years. During his time with them, he played on the album Monster on a Leash 😊🥁🎶
We first saw TOP in Cleveland Ohio at the Agora when they just released East Bay Grease. No one knew who they were, maybe 20 people in the audience. The next time they came back to Cleveland you couldn't get into the club. One of the greatest groups of all time and should be in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. They are real musicians and have "Soul with a capital S."

But Lenny Williams was great in his day and his unique stylings can't be duplicated but only imitated in my opinion. I would love to have heard Bowes sing " You're Still a Young Man " in this set.
Have to wonder if TOP is a group who can make it rain? Old Fan over the years. Saw them in Syracuse NY at Jazz Festival. It poured. Did not slow up the audience! Rain Dancers splashing and swinging to the groove.
That energy Tom brought, got them back in the black, when after not having a record deal for over a decade, Columbia Records re-signs them to their Epic label. They release “Monster On A Leash.”
omg...I remember that summer...it rained all summer but that day was fuck'in great the rain didn't stop us we're from Narragansett right across the east bay I swear you could hear the music from the beach if you listened real close ; )
Hi all, I have a question - is this video edited and shortened from the original show? I was there for this, and I have a VHS of this that I ordered a long time ago. It's the same as this video. My question is this - I swear that I remember them doing "Credit" at that show, but I have not seen it on UA-cam. It's not on my VHS and it's not here. Am I imagining things, or was Credit edited out of the final video production for some reason? Was anyone else there and remember that? Am I losing my sanity? LOL Thanks!
