The 40th performance was the best of all time. Rocco is gone, Mic is gone, David has retired. This performance (the whole 40th concert) had so many iconic past members and long lived great performers. The Masters of Funk. Nothing compares.
Oooooweee!! I was definitely digging that funk!! Being a pro bass player myself, that was an ABSOLUTELY SICK groove that Rocco was throwing down!! I liked that so much I tore that song apart and now for the first time in years, I played it on a 4-string bass! Inspiration!! To say the least, that was THE MOST!!!🥰🥰🥰
These guys have been kickin' everybody's ass for years R&R Hall of Fame or not. How would you like to go on stage after theses guys ? NO. Long may they run.
Great tune with a masterfull perfornce, especially by Mr. Dave Garibaldi and Rocco Prestia propelling this geat tune. What a great groove and tremdendous performance by master performer and composer Richard Elliot!
This is a demonstration on the skill level that the brass players former and present possess. The writing of the riffs played in back of Richard Elliott is so TOP!!! Lead trumpet is killer!! Greg Adams has his improv moments. Is that Mic Gillette on trombone in the section as well!! Even the Doctor is pounding it!! Great track!!
tcnascar1 Greg Adams showed up with his wimpy harmon mute shoved in the bell and choked out notes a high schooler might be proud of. Either handle center stage properly or give it to someone who can.
TOP. The best. I played in a band in 75 in Beaumont Tx and we opened for TOP at LU. I watched Picket warming up against gym lockers in the back room. I just sat there and watched him. Holy crap!!
Why can anyone tell me this group is not in the Rock and Rolle Hall of Fame . They deserve to be there . What’s wrong TOP Family can’t we vote to make this happen . When this Funk is gone there won’t be “ No Mo ‘ “ !!!!
This video has replaced "Theme from Shaft" as the one that I play when I absolutely, positively have to stay up another half an hour to finish an editing or translation job.
So nice to hear all the wonderful alumni this awesome band has bought the world. Richard Eliot, Greg Adams and the best rhythm section in the WORLD - David Garibaldi and Francis Rocco Prestia(RIP)
I'd rather listen to the syncopated rhythm that David is knocking out on the skins. He isn't just keeping time.....he is playing accent, ghost and very itsy bitsy notes ....and it makes this piece, I don't care about Richard or Rocco or Greg.
@@dennylibertario2246 you are being too much of a dickhead with this sentences. Garibaldi is a true legend and he is making all this crazy rhytms you commented and more... but man, the rhytm section is both drums and bass, Garibaldi and Prestia are like a pack, the combo of both of them is what make the groove go on throw all the song like it never ends. They complete each other in all the different rhytms Garibaldi is making so... Yeah, stop being a dickhead! The saxo guy is madly good too!
Born in Oakland, raised in the Bay Area with some of the best music of all time. AND Tower of Power is on the top of the list!! I would stand in line to see these guys, can't think of anyone else at my age LOL.....
WARNING: Listening to this Tower track while driving WILL INCREASE your risk of being pulled over. If stopped, KEEP MUSIC PLAYING. HP will be vaccinated. Another soul is saved. Drive on!
I've literally grown up listening to TOP. My Dad introduced me to them when I was little. Both my parents are fans, seen them live quite a few times over the years. We are originally from the Bay area and this is a piece of home. I'm here because my Dad text me this link to check out.
I can play this one over and over again. Greg Adams absolutely kills it on the muted trumpet. David and Rocco too. Richard moves away from his smooth jazz comfort zone and nails it. As for the Lenny vs. Richard element, I'm a Lenny man. Listen to his solo on Knock Yourself Out from "Live and in Living Color," and you'll see what I mean. No disrespect to Richard. Wish I could play like him. Saw TOP a month back and they put on an amazing show, even though it was hot, the venue was outside, and they just got back from Tokyo, so betting they were still experiencing jet lag. Never a bad performance in all the times I've seen them. Anyway, tightest horn section ever. Keep going guys.
you have to go with LP, let me pick it left the band for the lead sacks at Saturday Night Live, presently Lenny Pickett a k a l p is the music director for Saturday Night Live
I've got the BOSE Speakers rattling the windows. The dog is like whaaaat is going on??? The wife upstairs already knows. The Acoustic ceiling helps a lot. Posted this on my Tumblr account and it got a ton of hits, likes and reposts.
I got the chance to see Richard Elliot live and this dude will blow you away with his performance. TOP is the greatest horn section ever. I have seen them at least 15 or 20 times, and every time they sound just like they do in the studio. Been a fan of TOP since the 70's, and still love them. I'm a horn player so I guess I biased. But if you every saw Lenny Pickett live, you wouldn't know who to put first, Richard or Lenny.
I call it respectful awe. I grew up going to classical concerts and to this day take in all music in my own way, much to the amusement and chagrin of the other concert-goers. But I see heads nodding and fingers tapping here. Let 'em enjoy it on their own terms.
I grew up in the SF area and I was lucky to see them twice. simply outstanding One of the times was at the Oakland Alameda Days on the Green, 76. I got sunburned ( and didn't feel it-ha) I was with a Gal named Stephanie M. We got home around dawn, - thanks Steph.
simply amazing no one misses a trick all superbly tight just marvelous players.... mr garribaldi out of this world on drums..what a gift to have..... hard graft and untold hours of dedication and practice of course ....but the gift makes the difference....that gift of great feel and absolutely perfect timing....awsome
Saw them live in the old terrace ballroom in salt lake city in 1974 great show! Saw them I in the bay area many times when in the coast guard. One my favorite groups
WOWOW~!~ I saw Richard Elliot at the New York Pier in Manhattan back in the very early 1990's. He had Richard Smith on guitar, and oi vey did Smith electrify those guitar strings!!!! Elliot was super-fabulous no exaggeration either!!! The top sax players for me in my opinion of course,, David Sanborn, Richard Elliot & Kirk Whalum #1!!! All 3 are masters of raw tone and breathing. #2 Eugene Groove, Candy Dulfer. There's more,, but these are the ""Screamin Mimi's""!!!!!
I've been listening to The Tower Of Power since they started funking up the air waves "man can they funk that soul music!" Now you add Richard Elliot (one of the great saxophonist in the world) and you get this funky hot jazz jam. Giddy up!!!!!!!! P.S. The drum player is pretty damn good too. Or as the English would say "bloody good!"
It never fails to blow my mind, how nonchalant, and effortlessly David Garibaldi plays soooo much percussion - with so little effort. His expression never changes - he never even looks at the players - his form is textbook! A lot of drummers flail about, and look like they're assaulting the kit - sweating and such - David seems to never break one. I don't get it.
saw these guys at the casino in red wing mn, 2004,they played for 2.5 hours, this is a must see band live, they will blow your mind., Larry Brag was the singer, sounded like the old days.great singer.,great band,

Did they ever do a better version of this track live? Incredible and a lot to do with Richard Elliot obviously......
Oooooweee!! I was definitely digging that funk!! Being a pro bass player myself, that was an ABSOLUTELY SICK groove that Rocco was throwing down!! I liked that so much I tore that song apart and now for the first time in years, I played it on a 4-string bass! Inspiration!! To say the least, that was THE MOST!!!🥰🥰🥰
I agree 1000% RIP Rocko P. Truly missed.
I miss ROCO!😢
Yes..TOTALLY AGREE...sure miss Rocco...great guy & musician!!
These guys have been kickin' everybody's ass for years R&R Hall of Fame or not. How would you like to go on stage after theses guys ? NO. Long may they run.

One of my favorites! This is how you play the saxophone.
Exactly!
I listened to this through headphones and screamed like a little girl!!! My family thought I was nuts... but this performance was stellar!!!
George Stone - You ARE nuts. But that's a GOOD thing.
George Stone Whew!!! Good to know...thought I was the only one....
WOW.What more can I say.
This was born in the Bay but will never die!
I must have nine lives cause this shit has killed me at least eight times and I keep coming back. That is some hip shit.
Ridiculous!!! OMG!!! Absolutely Brilliant!!! Makes me want to play again!!!
Great tune with a masterfull perfornce, especially by Mr. Dave Garibaldi and Rocco Prestia propelling this geat tune. What a great groove and tremdendous performance by master performer and composer Richard Elliot!

Holy Moley! Nothing but pure "funk-tosterone" just oozin' all over that stage!
+Freddy Flintsone YEAH!
TOP. The best. I played in a band in 75 in Beaumont Tx and we opened for TOP at LU. I watched Picket warming up against gym lockers in the back room. I just sat there and watched him. Holy crap!!
Now that is called 'music'. Love people who pour their heart and soul into what they do, total dedication to their craft.
Just amazing how good these guys are for such a long time.
Why can anyone tell me this group is not in the Rock and Rolle Hall of Fame . They deserve to be there . What’s wrong TOP Family can’t we vote to make this happen . When this Funk is gone there won’t be “ No Mo ‘ “ !!!!
bobby clawson agreed man. These guys are some of the best players on earth man!
They are too good to be in the RR hall of fame. The people who run it are Stupid...
INSANE

You have awesome taste in music....
Nick's Randomness!! THATS how you’re supposed to listen to Tower of Power!! You didn’t know that?!!😂
Trudat
Love that crisp tight dry snare sound
David inspired me to buy a 3.5" deep piccolo snare and I love to crack it up. POP!
So nice to hear all the wonderful alumni this awesome band has bought the world. Richard Eliot, Greg Adams and the best rhythm section in the WORLD - David Garibaldi and Francis Rocco Prestia(RIP)
Know Richard fro L.A, never heard him funkier than with my
all time Favs, T.O.P
All old TOP alumni .Absolutely Richard Elliot on tenor sax!!!Greg Adams on trumpet !!!
These are musicians and this is music…
I know Richard is the star of this piece....but listen to that thumping bass line! Rocco was on FIRE for this one!!!!!!! Wow!!!!
I wish I knew enough about music to recognize even half of all the great things that are going on in this piece!
Yes!! Not too familiar with the bassman but he was definitely killin' it
T Drr z VM

Holy Hell....that guy can play the sax !!!!!
Yes, but Tom Politzer (the sax player in the middle) is actually better. He's the usual soloist on all the more famous tunes.
Richard Elliot!!!
@@leonguisburg413 yes Richard all the way, love him!!!

Rocco Prestia! Mr. Magnificent - groove minder to perfection.
Baddest Rhythm Section around/Baddest Horn Section around !!! Just plain Brilliant !!!!
WARNING: Listening to this Tower track while driving WILL INCREASE your risk of being pulled over. If stopped, KEEP MUSIC PLAYING. HP will be vaccinated. Another soul is saved. Drive on!
I first saw Richard Elliot with TOP here in Philadelphia back in 1984. I was partial to Lenny Pickett but he had left and Richard showed out!!!
THE best funk band EVER - and one of the best bands PERIOD.
TOP, EWF, Chicago best horn section ever. Often imitated but none better

Robert Dittman Richard has a very bad violent temper and channels his rage into his playing. He also Lenny sucks as a player
Baddest funk band Ever. Out of this world..
I grew up in the SF area and I was lucky to see them twice. simply outstanding One of the times was at the Oakland Alameda Days on the Green, 76.
When asked of your favorite tenor sax players you have to include Richard Elliot
you have to go with LP, let me pick it left the band for the lead sacks at Saturday Night Live, presently Lenny Pickett a k a l p is the music director for Saturday Night Live
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING GENIUS!
This is THE GREATEST SAX SOLO ever performed! I just put it on repeat and listen to it all week long...! Love it!

I adored them when I was a kid, and still do. Tower of Power, WoW
what gets me everytime how an audience can sit there motionless when a groove is being presented so ever cool
I call it respectful awe. I grew up going to classical concerts and to this day take in all music in my own way, much to the amusement and chagrin of the other concert-goers. But I see heads nodding and fingers tapping here. Let 'em enjoy it on their own terms.
It's because they are absolutely stunned. The audience is so rooted to the groove they can't move.
