I'm a shill for converting pre-built desktops and workstations into gaming systems. Its a great proposition for most gamers that arent addicted to 4k gaming... which I'd argue is most gamers. They can be picked up for pennies on the dollar and with a few "creative" modifications, can give GREAT price to performance!
Currently I'm using a GTX 970 with an I7-3770 16GB ram. I even used a 500gb SSD and 1tb hard drive. so far this pc has been holding me down pretty well I was even able to have a decent VR experience. But soon I plan to upgrade it to something a little more up to date.
@@Boardud honestly I don't know if that GPU is VR capable but I can look it up and see but the 970 is one of the minimum requirements for PC VR and it holds up pretty well
@@gorancavar6636 there are plenty of games where it makes plenty of difference and there are plenty of benchmarks on youtube that show that so im not gonna spend any more time and energy on you than this single message.
If you want to save a lil money and still get about the same performance, you could go for the rx 470 instead of the 1660. You can find them on the used market for as low as $60. As of right now posting this, I see quite a few for around $30-$50, but I'm not really sure why. It's probably gonna go back to $60+ soon
@@mageeshyt4495 my bad, I got the 1650 and 1660 confused. But, the rx 470 is a cheaper version of the gtx 1650, and the rx 590 is a cheaper version of the 1660 with about the same performance
I play VR on my i7 4770 and GTX 1660 6gb + 32gb of ddr3 1600mhz ram! Runs a ton of popular Virtual Reality games, including games like Bonelab, Beat Saber, and etc! Very impressive, even in 2023!

great vid :D have u thought about looking at the lenovo thinkstations? ik they normally have compatibility with higher core count xeons or even dual cpus and have much higher powered power supplies for stronger gpus 😮
Seeing as the CPU will most likely be the bottleneck here, you can disable specter and meltdown protection for better performance and install a custom stripped down version of windows 10 like the ghost specter version to lessen the load on the CPU even more. Every bit helps.
lol the i7 4th gen can handle windows 10 flawlessly , i have two i5 3570 which is last gen and can run games no problem even tripple a titles with an rx 580.
The GPU is the bottleneck, this CPU can handle an RTX 2070 super and run perfectly fine. I've done it with the exact model Dell optiplex. Although, I did drill out the hard drive cage to make it fit. Once your drill out the pop rivets from the hdd cage, you can fit a 140 mm fan in the front for intake.
Fun fact : it's actually the opposite. If you run demanding games such as Battlefield 2042 you won't exceed 100fps if you dont change the cpu The i7 4770 is an old quad core cpu and even the presence of Hyperthreading is no longer sufficient, but its still an ok-tier cpu
I recently built basically the exact same pc after finding a optiplex 9020 for $15 at goodwill. Pretty happy with it but people caution against the 24pin adapter you need to use a regular atx psu. Do you have any recommendations for a safe adapter. I just bought one off amazon and have been monitoring it to see if anything acts up or shorts. So far so good but im a little worried about it.
I've been refurbing Dell Optiplex's for a few years now and I have sold 5 systems. The 8pin to 24pin adapter in all the systems have worked flawlessly.
Although I really like that the entry cost has gotten very low for PC Gaming, but if your objective is strictly gaming and not productivity, at $300, just get a Xbox Series S. Its gonna be guaranteed to run all the latest AAA titles with decent visuals and performance. imo, building a PC that can match the performance of the current gen consoles is nearly impossible with a smaller budget, I would only recommend building a PC for gaming purposes only if you have $700-$800 lying around. Otherwise, if you wanna play the latest and greatest at decent settings and be guaranteed that your machine will work for the next 4-5 years, just get a console.
