      They are not a bad machine for the money. You'd pay twice the price for any other model. I will be playing with it some more and do a quicker follow up video with some consumables I bought off Amazon.
      Out of interest what power and CFM rating is your compressor?

      @@BensWorkshop it won't take you long to get good with it and don't be disheartened, even CNC machines that are dialed in leave snot on the back.
      Getting a pair of shade 5 goggles made a big difference for me, welding lens are 9-12 so a lot darker and when you are trying to make every move smooth and consistent that's a handicap i didn't really need, I get my face as close as possible to the cut line with the torch on the other side and still make a mess.

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop  4 роки тому

      I find the auto dim mask with the setting dialled down works well. I do like the look of the plasma jet too. I know that there will always be a bit of melt on the other side.

    Always thought it would be nice to have one of these in the workshop, but there always seems a neater way to achieve the same result...including chewing it. Good channel and content, but its time to kick on, tidy the shed and get a decent workbench or at least some screws to fix down that board!!

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop  4 роки тому +1

      That's a bit of scrap plywood on a Black and Decker workmate... You are right, it is time to sort the shed out, move in the lathes, and put up a workbench of some sort.

    Enjoyed the video. I don't do much sheet metal fabrication but now I've seen your video I kind of want one of these - it could really help cutting awkward shapes from sheet (I've got straight cuts fairly well covered already). I was waiting for the epic fail when a sheet of red hot metal, two bricks, a live plasma cutter and a sheet of plywood all landed on your feet!!!! Maybe 4 coach bolts slightly recessed into the plywood, passing through the holes in the workmate with big washers and nuts on the underside would do the trick. A permanent bench probably wouldn't help for the videos because you need an island bench in order to mount the cameras on the opposite side as you do.

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, you are right about the island! The problem with the plasma cutter is you do need a very steady hand or a guide to follow.

    • @GrumpyTim
      @GrumpyTim 4 роки тому +1

      @@BensWorkshop My freehand lines would be very wobbly - I mostly try to avoid freehand because I'm not good at it! If I was trying to cut something important for a project I think I'd probably make a sacrificial template out of something cheap and easy to work like MDF, maybe with some sort of follower so the template wasn't too close to the hot area - could be fun experimenting and learning.

      The glove saved the burnt digit! Alas the glove could not save itself. However the gloves are cheap and I just need to remember that the business end is very very hot.
      I also need to get a welders mask in front of the B camera as the actual plasma looks very cool. (OK, it isn't cool, it's hot, damn hot!)

    Your supposed to drag the tip ! Your doing it in the opposite direction .

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop  4 роки тому

      I do both in the video and it makes little difference. That said I will be playing with it a bit more over the weekend. I also have some consumables from Amazon and I will see if they fit.

    • @pollyaloy
      @pollyaloy 4 роки тому +6

      @@BensWorkshop I've been using plasma cutters for 25 years . Dragging the tip increases the life of the electrode and gives better control.
      When you drag it sends the sparks away from you from underneath the material being cut , if the sparks shoot up in the air your either going too fast or the material is too thick . The way you did it destroyed the tip and made a mess of the material.
      Also try using a scrap piece of flat steel as a ruler guide.
      Thanks for the video

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the heads up. Yes I will find something to use as a guide. I was thinking of getting a cheap speed square. Out of interest, do you have a link to a chart of recommended cutting current and air pressure?

    • @pollyaloy
      @pollyaloy 4 роки тому +6

      @@BensWorkshop the parkside machines pressure rating is 4 to 4.5 bar . This never needs to be adjusted once set up correctly.
      To set it , turn on the compressor and plug in the plasma cutter . Even though the dial on the cutter might say 4.5 bar, in operation this decreases and limits the performance.
      When both the plasma and compressor are turned on go to the air dial on the plasma and pull the trigger on the plasma gun and while the air is coming out of the gun set the pressure on the cutter to 4.5 bar .
      When you release the trigger the dial will rise above 4.5 bar but from now on during operation you will always get the correct air pressure being fed through to the plasma .
      Air pressure charts don't really apply to these small 30 amp cutters but the bigger 100 to 150 amp machines and CNC rigs

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop  3 роки тому

      Sorry about that, alas I don't get to control the number of ads in any one video which tends to vary depending on demand for ad space. All I can do is say of I want any in, if I want them at the beginning, the middle in long videos and the end.
      I do not allow non skipable ads though and the advertising revenue does go to pay for the resources needed to make videos.
