Just discovered cold shower benefits today, started with about 1-2 minutes and came out with the motivation needed to work out, and knock out more work in two hours than I had gotten done the rest of the day! Definitely going to stick with it.

It’s all in the mind. I start with a normal warm shower to shampoo etc as I would any morning. Then I slowly lower the temperature until it gets to cold. Then it’s just about enjoying it. Embrace the shower and see it as a positive experience. I usually stay under for five to six minutes. I don’t go any longer because after six minutes under cold water I feel I’ve done enough. It should be fun and not hard work. Never put yourself under any undue stress or pressure to stay under the cold water. If you’ve had enough then stop, because with that attitude you’ll find you want to stay under for longer. It’s all in the mind!

I progressed very slowly. I started with 15 seconds one week and then increased every week by about another 15 seconds. After 2 months I can take comfortably over 2 minutes.

i'm pretty new to cold showers (about a week in) i mostly do mine for 2 to three mins, but on one day in the week (last day in the week; sunday ) i do a challenge and try to stay in for 5 mins, the hard bit of cold showers is waking up and trying to force myself to go in the rest is the 'easy' bit but so far im loving cold showers feel more awakened in the early set time of the day

I have known about Wim’s cold shower routine for 10 years now and I finally just started doing them. I’ve been doing them for a few weeks now and I enjoy doing them before bed because they make me so tired. After only doing it for a week the winter cold is not nearly as oppressive and cold things just don’t really bother me anymore. Wish I’d started them sooner because they boost my mood and help me be more relaxed in stressful situations.

Cold showers do not get easier as the time progresses. I have been taking cold showers for more than 2 years, recently, more than a months or even probably 2 months I have been taking excursively cold shower without any prior warm one. It it hard at every second of it regardless how long i stay in it, and at some point I just feel that i lost a lot of energy. I estimated that at around about 4 mins I get most benefits, mental and physical. If I stay longer I just feel that i loose to much energy and there is no benefit in doing so. What i have built however is the courage and braveness to embrace it for 4 mins.

@@wilbertsmeets6238 I have been doing it another 8 months since my original comment. Not much has changed. One thing has however changed is that I've stopped shivering after the shower. But the initial effort to get in and to stay in the shower are every day the same. I do enjoy it though.

I am just getting into cold showers, but an interesting thing I have learned is what seems to bring the benefits is the temperature variation. So maximal results would be going from a cold shower, to a sauna and vice versa etc.

Cold showers are the best during the winter.....as the water is absolutely freezing. I aim for 5 minutes. Which is probably more like 4 minutes due to the fact that I count to 120 twice, then to 60 afterwards. I do actually feel much better after. I suppose a lot of the benefit can actually be explained by the fact that I'm not thinking about ANYthing besides being in the cold shower for about 4 minutes. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I like to get washed in lukewarm water for 10 minutes then cold water for 3 minutes then ice cold for 7 minutes. So 10 minute cold shower. Had to work up to this. I find after 2 minutes of ice cold water in the shower and breathing deeply I can handle 10 mins fine.
Its invigorating and I feel lifted after it, my skin looks full of colour, libido up, de stress plus feel like I can take on the world. I shower every other day because of dangers of water chlorine and fluoride. Bad for skin and health.
Can you tell me what is the best thermometer to measure how cold shower water is??
And also is 3or4 cold showers a week ok?
    Or is daily far superior?

I just started taking cold showers last week. I start out by taking a hot shower; cold showers don't rinse the shampoo/soap off of my body as well as hot water. I then yell,"hey siri, set a timer for 4 minutes", followed by turning it all the way to cold. I feel that my skin has improved, I have less inflammation, I'm more alert, and generally have a better attitude in the morning and throughout the day.

Cold showers in Australia might be warmer than cold showers during north east canadian winter, here the water gets Ice Cold & even busts the pipes. 10 minutes is big. Never done that, what's the Hof standard?

I dont know how much is cold standard for Canada but dont set up water all the way cold if you cant. Do like 75% of max cold. Try for 3-5 minutes. You will feel happy. Most important part is feeling a deep breath during a shower. If you can feel that with lets say 75% of max cold than this will be enough.

When assessing teachers how do you go about seperate the wheat from the chaff?

    • @AlexShailer
      @AlexShailer  4 роки тому +3

It depends on the teaching. If it's technical and scientific (like nutrition) look for what evidence they have that backs it up (and use the evidence hierarchy to evaluate the quality of evidence)
If it's spiritual or psychological (especially which goes beyond western institutional teachings) then you will know that a teaching is powerful if it creates realisations within you. Not just making you feel good through entertainment, or by simply adding onto a self-image you have in your head about yourself, but awakening you to realisations about your own consciousness and awareness.

Gotta start somewhere. What helps me is first to take a warm shower. Then turn it off and let the cold shower run for a while. While it is running try to breathe calmly for like half a minute and keep this breathing rhythm while you're in the shower. Also don't keep your head under the cold shower the whole time, just your body.

Sorry, but I didn't like this. I find cold showers relatively easy - especially after exercise, which is probably because I'm a fat bastard. I just wanted to know how long I need to take a cold shower for the metabolism-boosting benefits - preferably with reference to scientific studies, and my feeling is that you've just wasted my time with 5 minutes of stating the obvious. I suppose it have been informative to some people - though I personally find it hard to fathom how.
