Ideally you want to be breathing deeply and intentionally about a 30 seconds to minute plus before you plunge. Don’t brace against the cold. Welcome and except it peacefully. Relax into it as you breath deeply the entire time.
You did well. I've done cold plunges since the 70's because of martial arts/military training. Contrary to what some are saying, you do not want to induce hyperventilation before going near water. People die from that, and yes, you can drown in a barrel/tub/bathtub. Your method is perfectly fine. Forget the Wim Hoff/Tummo breathing techniques before getting into water. Even Hoff has changed his tune about this and is not saying he does not teach hyperventilation before cold plunges. One thing, you want to submerge your shoulders as well if you can. I go all the way under at first, but it's not necessary to get the results you are seeking. Well done!
Since I watched you I started to take ice bath. I have ADD and dyslexia. I was using ADDERALL and I stopped using 3 weeks ago. I had been having so much trouble. This ice bath helps me a lot. Thank you.
You were in there for nearly 3 minutes just shy of three minutes. It took about 25 seconds to regulate your breath and then it wasn’t even a full minute from first getting in to total peace. WOW!! You are incredible and so inspiring, and you change so many lives including mine. My whole family is doing your hi5 have it with me for a week now and it is so simple yet HUGE!!
Been doing cold plunges for 3 years now and theres nothing more satisfying than getting to the point of actually enjoying sitting with yourself and your body in the cold. Mind body connection activation beauty 😇 Thanks for sharing Mel and well done! You are my greatest inspiration, love you ❤
I have so many questions for you. What benefits have you noticed doing the ice plunge and do you do it every day? I’m 36, mom of 2 and just bought a tub to start doing this. Any tips would be appreciated
Nice. You're also quite pretty. I've been wanting to do them for years, and I even shopped around for what to get. I found a cheap ice bath made system. Shalom.
I always do 3-4 rounds of Wims breathing technique before plunging. It helps SO MUCH! The body adapts to the cold much quicker and it hurts less. Well done you doing it without the breathing!
Loved watching this Mel! I have done the Ice Bath 3 times now, just started this week. Today .... I got up to 2min 15 secs. It's for my mental health. xo
oh my God again !!! Yesterday I discovered Wim and Cesar Millan together,( two of my major heroes ), Then look who shows up today... doing an ICE bath!!! YOU!!! Talk about synchronicity !!! To find three of your heroes interacting, within three days!!! Just so cool so cool!!! and hearing that "come on Mom", in the background... priceless! thank you for your inspiration time and time again now you freaking rock!!!🙏🫶🧊❄️💙🤍✨💪
Omg. I feel like I had to breathe with you at first. Then you totally calmed down and I heard your dog crunching ice and my favorite was asking for some cheers from your son lol. Teenagers ! I’ve been doing cold and hot showers ….. working my way up. So glad I watched you do this …. I feel better about it now. Thanks and you rock!
I don't know why I'm getting teary so suddenly as I'm watching this! As I scrolled through the comments, I see I'm not the only one :') I guess it triggers my memory that all of us have been through some kind of hardship, and look at where we are now. So grateful for the journey up till now :')
I type in "how to begin taking ice baths" and of course Mel is on top of it!! You have it going on, in every arena of "killing it" and I am completely inspired by everything you do. Even the things I didn't yet know that you did. Way to go Lady!! Can't wait to start plunging as well!! 🥶 Cheers!! 💗TFS!! 🌞
Can you cut your dips together? Day 1, Day 3, Day 6, Day 9, etc so we can see the evolution. The incremental changes or wins as well after one week, 2 weeks, etc.
Loved the video! You are a great inspiration for your children and others. It’s not hard it just takes committment and a will to put just a little more effort into binge healthy and maintaining that level throughout our lives. Thanks for sharing
I hear it’s best to get your head in there first thing and at the end or you can get head aches from the water line considering the warm blood flow meeting the restricted vessels. Which is common
@markav2802 i started with cold showers and learned Wim Hoff breathing technique. Nevertheless, the first week was rough like anything new but once you get passed this it gets easier. One other thing I learned helps is the either dunk your head/splash water over your head seems to help me control my breathing much more timely. Good luck.
Very early in the morning boys would be matched into the river and by the river they would be circumcised, the numbness i think would put the pain at ease, but wait from this video i can add, they would realy focus on the cold and before they realized the cut was already done, its more psychological🤗, thanks mel🙏
Yes I have a question, but probs asking too late for an answer..... I really want to do this as part of my morning routine, but I can only imagine it taking a long time to warm up, dry off and get dressed afterwards. What do you do straight after? Do you stay in wet clothes with a towel? Do you immediately strip off and then what? Towel dry? Wrap up in a dressing gown? Shower? Surely you can't get dressed into normal clothes while still so wet and cold? I'm really eager to have this figured out before i buy a plunge tub. Thank you for any responses! x
I love you Mel. I read his book 2 years ago. I've never plunged before except in the ocean 😆 I've been doing the cold shower. Mel did you start with showers or feet in bucket of ice or did you jump right into the plunge?
could you please tell us the temperature. i heard 32-59 F. that is a huge difference!!! also i heard from 3 minutes to 20 minutes missing a lot of key information
What I miss is a 20 minut workout before (and after ) plunging or a breathing-session with yourself before plunging. This will help you to prepare your body to absorb and be wth the the cold shock in a calmer way... 🌻
Awesome job ! It is ‘easier’ if you do some breathing exercises, like Wim Hof’s before plunging into the freezing water. More affective when water is deep above your shoulders. 💙🥶💦🤍🧊💙❄️
Thanks for the great lesson Mel....just one correction - Parasympathetic Nervous system causes bladder contractions and urination ( not the sympathetic nervous system).
Yes, and no. The sympathetic drive increases renal perfusion, which increases urine production. It is the urine production that ultimately leads to needing to pee. The parasympathetic upregulation allows the release of urine.
Great job Mel…. I was doing ice plunge for a good one month and then I got a lil cold and I had to take a little break. In your honest opinion, what are the medical findings regarding taking an ice plunge when you have a cold?
Well done Mel!! Thanks for showing us this, for REAL! (Screwdrivers in background and all ) - your courage to be vulnerable inspires us all! 💕👊 Not sure I'm ready for this yet, but... 👍
hi, wow, really inspiring, i am on my way to getting my cold water bucket, i have some questions, do you do it every day? when do you change the water? thanks for the video
I just watched all youtube videos I could find, for a month... still hate cold showers, but absolutely love ice bath. I converted freezer to icebath. 32f my usual temperature
You need to move about while you're in there. You quickly get a thin layer of water that's been warmed by your body surrounding you, so if you move it breaks that layer up and makes it colder.
Ideally you want to be breathing deeply and intentionally about a 30 seconds to minute plus before you plunge. Don’t brace against the cold. Welcome and except it peacefully. Relax into it as you breath deeply the entire time.
You need to move around in the water to disperse the "sheath" of warmth and get the full cold effect also. You decrease your exposure by not moving.
Solid advice!
@@mushrooms4ableThat’s not necessary to get the uncomfortable effect of cold water.
What in through the nose out through the nose? Or out through the mouth, I'm about to do my first ice bath today

Do you know if after the ice bath is ok to go to an infra-red sauna?
Since I watched you I started to take ice bath. I have ADD and dyslexia. I was using ADDERALL and I stopped using 3 weeks ago. I had been having so much trouble. This ice bath helps me a lot. Thank you.

It generally takes 30-45 seconds to over come
Mel, you are such an inspiration to so many of us!!! Thank you so much for taking us along on your awesome journey!! You’re a total BADASS!!!🙌🏾🥰

Do you need to have some clothes on? I’m just at home with my bath. But maybe it protects you a bit more if you at least have underwear?
For how long?
Nice. You're also quite pretty. I've been wanting to do them for years, and I even shopped around for what to get. I found a cheap ice bath made system. Shalom.

Awesome! I googled an ice bath inspiration video because I’m heading outside to take mine in a few minutes! Thank you for sharing! 💛

This is an outstandingly great video of how to get in the ice bath, thank you so much 😊
This needs aggressive Viking music playing in the background! You’re a badass, Mel!
I've been doing cold plunges now for 2 months, and it has by far been the best addition in fitness journey.
I’m about to start mine. Any tips?

Amazing Mel - you got so calm
I don’t ever stay in cold water as long as you did. I bathe for half a minute in cold water every day. You’re brave ❤️
you adjusted quickly and well.....good work!!
"...stands here just as a judgey teenager" I'm DYING!!! 😂🤣😂💯
Well done.
You did brilliantly. Very good insight into the great effects of cold water plunging.👏👏👏

Crazyyyyyy woman!!!! Literally, love what you are doing!
Love it. Time for a new one (ice bath video) too fun!
Very early in the morning boys would be matched into the river and by the river they would be circumcised, the numbness i think would put the pain at ease, but wait from this video i can add, they would realy focus on the cold and before they realized the cut was already done, its more psychological🤗, thanks mel🙏
you are strong and an inspiration
I did mine at the same time and it was my first ever and it feels good
Way to go Mel! Wow, so much peace as you were sitting there in ice cold water.

How long should we be working to stay in the cold bath for optimal benefits...5 min... 10 min...?
Have you got a link to the barrell please mel
I love you Mel.
I read his book 2 years ago. I've never plunged before except in the ocean 😆
I've been doing the cold shower. Mel did you start with showers or feet in bucket of ice or did you jump right into the plunge?
Well done. Beautiful scenery.

This is AMAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSINGGGGGGGGGGGG I wish 1 day I could do the same, have the same environment as you my super soul, love xoxoxo
Wow great job Mel....very inspiring to me since I am getting my ice bath next week to use myself... thank you for sharing : )
Great job pointing 👉 👈 out the benefits.
what's the temp and how long are you in there?
I was impressed. Well done
Is it weird that I panicked for a few seconds then began to control breathing as you did ? As you has peace so did I 😉
Awesome job ! It is ‘easier’ if you do some breathing exercises, like Wim Hof’s before plunging into the freezing water. More affective when water is deep above your shoulders. 💙🥶💦🤍🧊💙❄️
Where did you get that cranking plastic barrel from?(I got a chest freezer from off the street the other day, but it doesn't turn on!)
Thank you for this!!!!!! My hubby and I are going to get one😊
I'm trying this tonight ! Love you Mel❤️
Thank you for all you do! You are such an inspiration to me and I know so many more! I want to try this!!
What in through the nose out through the nose? Or out through the mouth, I'm about to do my first ice bath today
Doing the face also will help chill out the nervous system. Just like during a panic attack.
Is that cage in the middle of your loungeroom for your dog?
No one ever mentions the degrees? How cold was this? Does everyone do 10-15? Or is this colder?
Great work Mel. Out of interest, did you start with cold showers or straight to cold plunge? Many thanks, Dean
Great video mel! Anyone know what barrel she is using for this?
Would you share the brand of Barrell? Thanks.
It’s all about getting into the water. Once you’re in your body will adapt.
Thank you .. this is inspiring!
Kudus
Doing great!😊
so cold....................AMAZING!
Does your skin start to feel inflamed, like heat up shortly after and than return normal temperature?

How cold does the water need to be?
Love your glasses! Who makes them?
Where do you get ice bath?
Were did you get that barrel and how much plz
$1200 from Ice Barrel
Thanks about to hop into my first one here
Does it help with injury?
Well done Mel!! Thanks for showing us this, for REAL! (Screwdrivers in background and all ) - your courage to be vulnerable inspires us all! 💕👊
Not sure I'm ready for this yet, but... 👍
hey nice video! where did you get the barrel? very curious!
Respect, girl!
That was a good video, thanks Mel
hi, wow, really inspiring, i am on my way to getting my cold water bucket, i have some questions, do you do it every day? when do you change the water? thanks for the video
I want to order one and start doing these but Im worried I won't be able to get in and do it... Any advice?

You need to move about while you're in there. You quickly get a thin layer of water that's been warmed by your body surrounding you, so if you move it breaks that layer up and makes it colder.
I just might try this it looks like it really changes your mood :]
I wish mine was urine! I get the runs every time I get nervous. 🤦♀️
I'm genuinely curious, as I think this is something I'd like to get into. But I'm struggling with why. Why do you do this?
I keep wanting to start doing this but I haaate the cold and that looks excruciating lol good job
Kid is cheering his mom on. That's awesome. "Killin it"
