Very thorough... My 06 would pass all those checks and it's at a hard 200k. Egr flow excessive is likely from a clogged air filter, that's the first thing that throws that code.
I really appreciate your videos, I have been watching them for a couple years now and it has helped motivate me to buy my first dirtymax last year, It's an 05 lly crew cab chevy 4x4 and came with a 60 gallon fuel toolbox. I have watched just about every video you have and I love the before and after comparisons, not that many people do that. Thank you for your time and effort you put in these videos and congratulations on the new Duramax buy, really clean truck.
If you have an 06 that’s tuned it’s an Lbz, only difference in 06 lly and lbz is tuning, with efi live your stock is “optimized stock” and they tune it to factory equipped lbz tuning
Austin Mortimer you’re an idiot, go to any website and order injectors and it doesn’t ask you anything about a vin code for factory lbz or 06 lly same heads same injector same everything.
I just got an 05 rust free crew cab long bed lly. Blown hg. They broke the coolant reservoir cap so it would relieve all the pressure. I bought it as is. Everything looked good. But as I started driving around later in the week she started drinking coolant. When I was filling the coolant I noticed something inside the the cap was jiggling around so I replaced it. Then the bubbles in the reservoir started. I got it in the shop now. Definitely blown hg.
Some down to earth dudes checking out some diesels.. Appreciate it. Going to check out a truck(LBZ) for the first time. Just sold my race car a few days ago to pay for my work truck. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
7:08 Vehicle production begins early for the new year. This one was manufactured in the latter half of 06 as you can see, with the September 2006 stamp, so it was marketed as an 07. Also, in 07, the newer boxier body style was released for both the GMC and Chevy so it was a split year, with this cat-eye bodystyle being maintained in production under the name "Silverado/Sierra Classic" I've been a sales rep at a new dealership for the past 20 yrs.
The biggest reason i wanted a stock truck is I’m not paying for upgrades i might not want and i get to do everything myself and i know the condition/quality of the parts that are going on the truck.
My first Duramax my second truck when I was 18 thought I had a great truck . Found out it had a pin whole drilled in the cap to release pressure a few days later. Bad head gasket lol lost my shirt lesson learned
@@timsheahan3951 There are time when we do a early model change, as early as February. It use to be the first 2 weeks of July shut down. Now we do rolling change overs and no real set schedule on change overs.

I was lucky. My 2003 2500HD loaded no rust had no head gasket problems no blowby no injector problems no leaky water pump. Guess I got a good deal on my 2003 Silverado 116,000 miles for $11,700.00
Hey I much appreciate this video. I got my hands on an 06 LLY Duramax that was a hand me down from a 77 year old relative who bought it new almost 14 years ago. Frame is in good shape and with 166,000 miles I’m going to have to handle a couple things to it like ball joints, breaks, and odds and ends. Now I can investigate a little further thanks to your video. Stay Tuned!!!
Bought my own 2006 LBZ crewcab silverado with 4x4 in the floor. My only complaint is how quiet it is stock. I even cut off the muffler last week and have just the cat on it. All in all, its way stronger than my LB7 I owned. It only woke up when I put in 60 over SAC injectors
All of these checks are interesting but what do you expect to do w this DuraMax engined truck? Is this for hauling or construction? Yes, it is prudent to examine the engine, frame and codes. Unless a truck has been very heavily used, trucks generally have good life left in them.
I got an lb7 03 same color. Dark grey interior 6” fab tech lift. Dual shocks in front. Air bags geared, custom subs behind rear seat 5” exhaust. Haven’t put on my down pipe yet. 20x10. With 37” nitro ridge grapplers. I would sell it for 25k. Maybe lol. 161k. Runs really well. Just kidding I can’t sell it
My 06 LBZ has 147658 miles . Love this thing. Only driven occasionally. Sits inside of my pole barn unless I'm pulling my boat or trailer. Any other time I drive my gasser. To keep the miles down. And not for sale.
I just went with a friend to look at a Lb7 crewcab for sale. It was loaded, good exterior but steering was horrible, oil in the coolant, the motor was caked in oil, so was the transmission and the transfer case had an obvious pump rub leak. Banks 4 inch exhaust and intake. It was a dog to drive, it just struggled to move, bad throttle response. No deal was made.
Check the upper mount at the frame left side under steering box of the front diff mount, the whole mount breaks off of frame, especially if its a plow truck.
Outstanding, very well done. Sure, as you mentioned, you really picked it apart. However that is the way it should be done. Especially for the purpose of this program and pretty much all the time. Which allows you to decide what is important to be concerned about and what isn't. Outstanding job, great information, well presented and it reflects well on you to assist your friend as you have. Hope he bought you a beer... well done, bravo Zulu.... now onto the wifemax... stop teasing !!!
I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado long bed single cab v6 that is white with black trim. My Silverado has 230000 miles and a couple of dents in almost every panel except the hood and front fenders. It also has 4wd and some rust beginning to form from it sitting in my driveway for 5 years. My Silverado still runs fine with the many mileage v6 engine.
Leave the technical stuff to Earl!!! LOL!!! I'm getting my dad's old 2006 duramax coming up here shortly and it's not rust free because it lived in minnesota it's whole life but I'm sure it will work as a good work truck for me for many years to come.
I definitely should have watched this video before buying my lmm. Everything worked out but I had no clue how to check for blow-by as I’ve only been a gaseous gone guy my whole life. Everything else in this test though I did. I got a desert truck that has immaculate door jams and frame but the white paint is starting to flake
Anything that is made after September is referred to as next year model . Example " 11/08 = 2009. That is why after September they release the next year models . This 2007 model was released in 2006 of September. They do this with all vehicles.
Alignment might look a little goofy because chevy has their camber and caster lean further on one side to counter the natural lean to the truck. Might be wrong but that's just what I have encountered and been told aligning them.
Hard upper hose COULD ALSO indicate the coolant tank cap needs to be cleaned or replace if it isn’t release the pressure on cool down or will hold extra pressure when hot
DirtRoadDiesel stupid question but could this cause coolant to leak? My parents having an issue with their 06.Loss of coolant and have taken to multiple mechanics and they all say they can’t find anything wrong. They are ready to sell it because they are worried about traveling with it now.
Tammi Lutz there are many places to look for a coolant leak the trucks are known for lower radiator hoses to leak also could be a water pump, cross over pipe that connects to both of the heads or it could be the head gaskets eating the coolant and you can test the head gaskets with a block tester on the coolant tank just can’t get any coolant in the bottom of the tester that will mess up the test or if the is coolant on the grown then you know it’s a external leak not the head gaskets
06 is a LBZ. And first year of allison 6 speed also sure way to tell is if it has a DPF, they started them on 07.5 lmm also maybe I missed it but I never saw you check the transmission fluid. Or waterpump weephole.
Y’all are just confused, that truck is a 2007 lbz. Almost all vehicles are assembled way ahead of the sale year. You could buy a 2020 duramax in 2019. That sticker on the door shows the production date. That’s the month/year it was made. It’s an 07 lbz. Truck made in 06
Take off the cold side piping above the egr valve, the lbz uses a lot of low flow egr during cruise, and the valve on the passenger side fills with oil and soot, which causes it to stick open when the goo in there is cold. Problem doesn't happen when hot unless the egr valve is shot. You can also pull off the actuator and push the valve manually to see how sticky it is. I cleaned mine out 20k ago and not a problem since. Would always throw a light when cruising at 50 mph for 10 minutes in cold weather. 20k for an LBZ still? I paid 24k back in 2012 for a cclb with less than 100k. I've got a bunch more tips for common issues with these.
I am a Dodge guy but I'm considering buying a 2006 Duramax. The guy said the check engine light has been on for 7 years for cylinder 8 glow plug. He said it runs flawlessly and so he isn't concerned. What are your thoughts, I'm new to this?
What do you think about the 2011 Duramax? There’s a really nice one but it has 211k miles on it. Seems to run and sound really nice. No milky substance. Seems to be super well taken care of. It was a 1 owner corporate truck, all stock. I’m in Texas. What all is there to worry about on the Duramax and what do you think it’d cost to fix blown headgaskets? Doesn’t have any head gasket issues as of now though

Anthony Garcia You sound like the idiot, it’s common knowledge that GM truck frames are wax coated as opposed to enamel. The trucks rust out before vehicles twice as old.
the 2006 lly is the exact same engine as the lbz. the only difference is chevy hadn’t finished the lbz tune yet so they just kept using the lly tune until the lbz tune was done. the engine and all is 100% the same
Yeah I have a 2010 and I here the ticking noise sometimes usually only when parked and idling never got it checked out but was tripping me out and I put my hand on the dahs and press down and it stops

Had that ticking as well then I switched to Amsoil and it went away.
brandon magill mine ticked like that, until I changed my spark plugs....then stopped Ticking....Split Fire 🔥 plugs....Make sure you gap the plugs to LLZ SPECS
@@tmonster1498 a diesel engine doesn't use spark plugs...
Tommy what plugs it’s a diesel?
Can't be a chevy..... all the front end lights are working!!!
From Cali to rusty in 2 years or less.
Facts
Are you aware of undercoating sir?
How much a idiot are you? I swear people like you are just jealous lol.
Anthony Garcia You sound like the idiot, it’s common knowledge that GM truck frames are wax coated as opposed to enamel. The trucks rust out before vehicles twice as old.
Hopefully he’s smart enough to fluid film it yearly.
Lol when I throw my truck into 4 low you can feel when you put it into drive lol the thing just lurches its probably the tune I'm running vs stock.
I wish I knew about this channel before I bought my 2004 GMC DURAMAX 2500 PU.
I just bought a 2002 2500hd with the lb7 for cheap
Usually the rust is what holds it together
That thing is mint. Really wish I could find an LBZ like that.
the 2006 lly is the exact same engine as the lbz. the only difference is chevy hadn’t finished the lbz tune yet so they just kept using the lly tune until the lbz tune was done. the engine and all is 100% the same
Yeah I have a 2010 and I here the ticking noise sometimes usually only when parked and idling never got it checked out but was tripping me out and I put my hand on the dahs and press down and it stops
Have you tried Arch Oil or Hot Shot Secrets to clean up injectors and reduce stiction? I am not sponsored by either.
Yes it works great
Injector balance rates tell more of a story than just injectors, - low compression, head gasket issues, frp, cp3, and much more
I’m sure I missed a lot but definitely make a video so it can help others out 👍
I watched your videos when shopping for my LBZ, found a 07 outta cali with under 100k miles, 1 owner and completely stock.
Your buying guide helped look for everything and now a year later my truck is still running strong with no issues
Im glad you guys found what youre looking for!
Thanks
I'm looking for a LBZ just like that all clean no rust low milage white full console , how did you guys find such a beautiful truck????

@@TruckMaster that's honestly where I've had most of my luck
going to look at my dream truck this weekend a 06 gmc sierra 2500hd duramax been looking for things to look out for videos great
I would love for josh to come look at trucks with me so I know that it’s sound! I’m also deathly curious as to how much he paid for the truck.
I’m sorry I totally forgot to add that in the video but it was $20k
Truck Master seems like a really good deal at 20k !
Truck Master 20k not bad at all. How many miles?
Truck Master wow!! I’m hoping to jump on something similar to that for my first truck purchase!
Got my 06 lly for 10k with 93,274 miles on it
Currently own a 04 duramax with 450k miles definitely going to do these test to see where she’s at. My rust levels are definitely not pretty 😢
Wow this guy knows his stuff
10th digit is a 7 it's a 2007 and 06 and 07 is literally the exact same truck
I noticed that too. 07 classic.
What kinds of things should be checked for the transmission? Hard shifting? What else?
You know its a rust free truck when the factory grey primer is still underneath the cab! I have a duramax now that still has no rust in those areas. We have car washes here in indiana that do underbody wash i took mine through it anytime I drive in salt.
