The good old days, when a 76K mile LBZ wasn't $39,900.
I’m about to buy a lml 3500 for 32k 137k miles
I’m about to buy a lml 3500 for 32k 137k miles
Then the market crashes and they go for 15k lol
@@randrrcscorbin-tyler3998 Picking up a LBZ with 40k for 28,000 tomorrow. So excited.
@@VincentoftheRolleri most likely they tampered the odo, no lbz with that much miles will ever go for anything under 35k. I’ve seen that plenty of times. A buddy of mine got a smoking deal like that and turned out it was indeed to good to be true
Rare to find an owner who will point out the bad stuff on their vehicles. Says a lot about the owner, he seems pretty honest.
Every time I've sold a car, I would list off every idiosyncrasy of that car, then list all the bad, the mediocre, then the good.
Good news last always eases their minds.

Any diesel engine that Banks performance talks about is a good diesel engine
Don’t buy a 20k truck in the North. If your spending that kind of money, buy a one way plane ticket to Texas and get a truck with no rust. IMHO It’s what I do.
Amen Brother. Those northern trucks are soooooooo rusted out.
I guess you forgot about the crazy flooding that's happened in Houston and other parts of Texas over the last few years. Fuck Texas, I'll got to Arizona or New Mexico.
With exception to Idaho/Montana/Washington and Oregon. Salt is rarely used up here iv purchased dozens of vehicles up here with little to no rust. But a good rule of thumb is to buy in the south vehicle tend to be cheaper in cali and Texas anyway.
@@davewilson2559 A single flood might screw up the electronics, but it won't make the frame rust like that.
But with that being said be prepared to pay extra southern trucks typically cost more cause of popularity
I know nothing about Duramax...much less any diesel truck. I would like to find something within my "old man, retired, and poor" budget to pull my 5th wheel with. I currently have a 6.0 GMC that will do the job on the flats but when into any hills, she will grunt. (the Alison trans is a good option too) I definitely need to watch more of your videos to understand what LGBTQ, LLY, BMT, XYZ, and all the other Duramax acronyms mean.
I just have to say. The breakdown of this video is by far one of best what to look for videos I’ve ever seen. Thank you and well done. Great detail.
FYI:: They are right and wrong about the smoke! White means your burning coolant (bad headgasket). Blue haze means your burning oil (bad rings). Black means your burning access fuel (bad injectors). The darker it is the worse it is. Hope that help someone with their diagnoses.
Brake pedal rubber is missing. Wear, shows constant braking aka city miles
Or on hilly terrain
Well done simple things that are often over looked in the excitement of buying... keep up the good work.
Thanks
Honest dealer. Thanks guys for the information to us guys out here. I’m a fleet mechanic got my experience on duramax since the whole fleet are the 6.6L. I’m thinking of getting one for myself, feels good to see that there are honest dealers out there.
Thanks fellas looking at buying my first diesel, different animal than a gasser
Did you buy one?
Did u buy one.?
Ranjit yeah sold my 08 for an LB7, owned it for almost a year, fixed a bunch of shit on it, t-case blew. Sold it for a 19 5.3. If you have deep pockets they’re great.
Man I’m looking at buying an LLY this weekend. This video helped so much! Keep em coming man!
+Michael Rymkos good luck!
Same here
Go buy a Cummins
LLY is without the emission?
I'm in the market for a duramax just sold my 2000 F250 I loved that truck but I'm ready for a new build. Thanks for the tips man you earned a sub!
Careful for blown headgaskets on the 2010-2014’s I put 80k on the 11 and about 60k on the 13. Both had blown headgaskets under 100 k
Guys, I really appreciate the points you've made available to the diesel novice like myself. Great job! Thanks again..
Makes me want to purchase a truck from this guy.
He's a good guy, I know his as a dealer in the business.
The poppens are stand up guys. If youre lookin for a Chevy or dodge you can find one easy.
What Is the name of this lot?
Additional considerations: #1 check the title and find out where it was prior to the respective lot you are browsing... many trucks get shipped around the country, flood vehicles are everywhere! #2 don't drive anything off a lot with promises, even if put in writing, ensure the issues are corrected prior to accepting any vehicle. #3 blistered paint usually means body rot, rust and blistered paint is a definite sign of serious body issues - it's often cheaper to replace the entire bed of a truck VS repairing a portion of the bed. #4 being many folks don't have personal diagnostic systems... take a test drive and stop by an auto-parts place that does free scanning, have them plug it in. And...don't purchase a used Duramax from Byers Chevrolet in Columbus Ohio. I invested $35,000.00 in a Chevy 2500 HD with 98000 miles and a clean interior... in less than a year, by their estimate, $9900.00 in needed body repair for what they cited as surface rust on the bed, rockers, and corners, in addition to numerous electrical issues, issues they claimed didn't exist at the time of purchase.
Brian Fidler basturds.
I bought a super clean 1 owner 07 crew cab lbz fully loaded with 76000 miles on it about 2 months ago for $15000. I'm absolutely loving it. Feel like I got a great deal on it.
How did you find that?!
@@fuckhead69100 it was three years ago, before everything got nuts 😂
"Were gonna sandblast the frame and undercoat it"
Translation- "were gonna undercoat it"
Scotchbrite first lol
Collapsed upper radiator hose most of the time is a coolant tank cap getting gummed up with crusty dexcool. Soak it in hot soapy water for a while and rinse with hot water then blow it off with some compressed air. Happend to me in my LLY and LB7 this fixed the problem. Definitely could be other problems also stated in the video but always start with the easy stuff first👍🏼
Can we have these prices back please
*UPDATE: i now own a 2006 Dodge Ram Mega cab 2wd SLT bought it for a tow rig still have my Escalade EXT everything is paid for and titles all in my safe. the Dodge had 172,000 miles on it when i purchased it in Oct, now has 174,000 and yeah if you fold the back seat down flat to the floor by using the release n the side of the seat at the floor you can put a full size maybe even a queen mattress in there. might come in handy in the event you can't find a hotel somewhere one night. the guy i bought mine from wanted $14,250.00 I test drove the truck came back and pulled a Richard Rollins on him. (MEANING) i walked in threw the keys back at him and asked him "so how much is this $5,000.00 truck going to cost me? Now we both know that the truck is worth at least twice that specially since there is no rust here on our trucks and this truck has never been out of the state it sold new to a guy in Knoxville through ORNL credit union and was reposessed in August last year 2018, I purchased it from a lot in Glasgow KY about an hours drive North East of me. I ended up paying $9,000.00 even for the truck. of course then all the LED goodies started getting ordered and installed and i may have a total of $9,500.00 total tied up in it now with replacing upper and lower ball joints and such. love the motor, can't stand what they wrapped around it with the exception of the mega cab bit*
Just got an 07 LBZ. Verified VIN engine code. It's a crew cab with a long bed. All stock minus CAT. 240K miles. Checks out fine, just a few interior discrepancies I'll have to fix. Got it for 10K with a trade in.
Edit: Live in Bama and bought in Bama. No rust.
Oh it was also completely stock until I got my hands on it ..lol
One more thought, the transfer cases on some trucks have a pump rub issue, this will shut you down in a hurry! If it leaks, or you get a strange oil splatter on your tailgate take preemptive action before the internals self destruct!
Merchant Automotive up there with you in MI sells the pump rub kit. I did mine as a preventative. Search it in forums and on you tube
Good information ! Man if I was in need of a diesel truck or vehicle I would be looking for this guys car lot !
06 duramax with 253k on it looks clean anything to look for extra on a truck with this mileage
I ment and 07. Then a 2004 with 232k

Also check the hours by pressing odometer button instead of the miles. A lot of these idle in the oil field all day 24/7.
I bought a truck from Perry Auto sales, great guys up front and honest. Love my new truck!

Hey grape will you do a pc spec vid or list?
What state? Perry?
Great tutorial for inspecting a diesel. Good explanations and thanks for showing your audience how you actually do it.
I’m looking at a 2005 Duramax it has 360k is that to much they want 17k Canadian
There’s a really good bbq restaurant around the corner called Johnny v’s check them out
Looks like a bunch of good deals and a bunch of soon to be happy truck owners near you!
4 years later and lb7 s are selling for 20k, thanks Biden
Rocks for brains cash for junk cars and resellers have ruined the used car market
5:29 oh but i do have a ridiculously expensive Snap On scanner, and an Autel Elite too.
Good information all the way around. I dont like working on the modern diesels. Too much crap in the way..
I got a 8.1 gasser.... hoping to someday graduate up to a diesel.... the info is gold for buying used, thanks!
And I subbed up on this one... seen a couple of the Allison vids.
Thanks for the feedback 👍
A diesel if you pull a trailer is free when compared to a 8.1. I had a 02 gmc with a 8.1. It would go 179 miles on a tank pulling a 20 foot enclosed trailer. My 03 cummins goes 440 on a tank same trailer lol
If it dumping to mu h fuel into the system it can also be someone turned the fuel up on it as was done to a duramax I owned . I t was done at the dealer
GREAT POINTERS!!!! Thanks for the Awesome Content.
+Phil G. Thanks
Basically I just wanna say basically every chance I basically get.
I bought a 2019 2500 sierra Denali. At 16000 miles the exhaust filter regen failed went into low power mode fixed it and 9 times later over the next 30000 miles it is still happening exact same issue. 3 full exhaust system replacements, numerous sensors and all injectors replaced and still it goes in to low power mode and engine light comes on when the first warning to keep driving comes on after I pick it up(Last 4 times) GMC is refusing to buy me out although it has happened 10 times since 16000 on record and it is a nightmare
Stevie Dee lemon law.,,,, you wanna hear something funny I had a 2006 lbz, sold in in 2014, last year bought a 2019 denali L5p fully loaded, that truck kept me up at night, wondering when the warranty runs out the bills I’ll have, I just sold it and I’m back in a lbz. I sleep good at night now. Honestly I don’t miss the truck that much.
This was a great video, lots of good information.
I love my 06 LBZ and would be hard for me to part with it, she's only got 67k miles on her.
Since we don't have snow here in Los Angeles, the only chance my truck has to get rusted is when I drive up to the mountains to go skiing or on road trips.
Frame didn't rust cause it sat in some farm....northern states throw salt during their snowy months guys....duh
Very informative, I subscribed and am saving the video. Thank you for being honest and putting truth out there.
Learned a lot about the duramax! Thank you!
+Heath Brockway no problem
I already knew a lot about them. They have no power and they’re overpriced
Luke Watson LMAO
@@lukewatson3524 ya but they get good mpg, and believe it or not they can TOW! they say towing heavy loads will take longevity off your truck. From my research, this diesel engine was a proven marine engine until Chevy got ahold and bastardized it.
Oo what's wrong with Canada aye?
High taxes! Cant own a gun for protection. No castle law. Those few come to mind
I prefer to use a $20 bill held flat and stiff over the oil fill tube to check for blowby.
Thanks.
Yea wouldn't want to lose the oil cap
Oh, look at mr moneybags over here! Any other man would just use a $1 bill
The VIN is the indication to use on where a truck was actually made. Starts with a "1, 4 or 5", U.S.A. 2 is Canada, and 3 is Mexico.
New diesel owner this video is helpful

Great info on this. I am in the market for a 2006 duramax one ton dually. Thanks for doing this.
Great video guys. About to buy an LLY, this is exactly what I was looking for👍
I found this video informative even if don't own a diesel truck, I'm pretty sure I was the only gasser at your last truck meet....but I made up for that by being the only red GMC 2500 HD truck there. lol Thanks for sharing, peace out. Al

I’m from flint. Live by bishop airport. I’m buying a 2006 2500 6.6 duramax tomorrow. Video helps me decide if going to put my money down.
How.do you.like your duramax?
Texas has the deals in diesels. And no rust.
NorthTexasFarming show what is around
Nope No deal get some real DP get yourself a nice 5.9L Cummins 24V Never let you down and won’t have to check for any blown head gasket too
Let’s hope the 5.9L won’t leave you strand with them weak transmissions though
Truck Master If you get one with a automatic transmission I can see where your coming from for the Cummins. But the manuals trans are not terrible other than the dual mass flywheel that you have to replace about every 1,000 miles !
@@TruckMaster buddy tows.newer dodge truck's all the time. Yheres a common corridor-mountain pass where driver is totally screwed without cell service in my state.
How come you don't have these guys in your videos anymore?

Definitely appreciate the info as I now own a Duramax LML. Your videos are informative and I learned a good deal. Thanks
dealerships in CA know nothing about the vehicles😂
Love Watching your videos I’ve been a Chevy man my whole life never had a Duramax I’ve always stuck with the gas jobs I got a 6.0 and love it .. maybe a diesel be in my future but it seems like a lot of keep ..
Dan Makin On my gas trucks in the past I would always change my oil every 3/4K miles. I let the Duramax go 5/6k miles (deleted) so it's about the same cost really. Everything else is the same on the air frame. It's not that much more to own a Diesel. Cheaper if you tow a lot. My uncle just converted and bought a Cummins to tow his 5th wheel, never seen a 70yr old man so damn happy, made me happy to listen to him tell me all about it hahaha
@@sethh8365 you can go longer intervals with synthetic oil.

Why are these duramax or diesels In General so expensive up north
Because it’s hard to find nice ones that don’t have much rust
Down in Texas they’re pretty cheap but have a ton of miles
i have a 2005 duramax 6.6l hd for almost 5 years now. I have replaced the wheel bearings ( could hear the tires wobble on the road at slow speeds) the water pump, power steering pump, injectors, brake booster, and most commonly that damned fuel filter head assembly
Truck Master how can I ask you questions ? Do you have an email or something I just want to make sure you see my question
+thedudeof42 instagram @truck_master07
Truck Master what about an email address, Ive got my own project similar to something Gale Banks is doing
Isn't there a lot of reasons it can smoke a lil on startup? Including a bad tank of fuel, or if its cold out some unused fuel coming out due to it being cold?
gotta be worth flying out to arizona or california and driving one home rather than dealing with those buckets of rust.
You get any Chevy Crew cab 1 ton duallys, with Duramax and allison tranny, with about 130-175,000 miles
Too bad here in California if its older than 2010 .....its illegal. Starting in 2021....all trucks need to have all the b.s. emissions junk installed.
Leave that state immediately, lol.
Really would like a duramax but, idk if i can drive to michigan to get one :(
Nice summary of critical things to look for on the Chevy !!

If your truck is getting great millage the injectors must be good?

My 2007 GMC 2500HD CrewCab with 6.6L Duramax looks brand new underneath compared to all these trucks.
