- No these two cars aren't a good match, but lets do it anyway! In this video Vince, a long time guest on the channel, has. bought the latest and greatest 2024 Model 3 Performance! He couldn't wait to hit the drag strip to see if he could run 10's so I decided to finally bring the Porsche to the drag strip to follow along. I should have borrowed a friend's GT4 RS to not be embarrassed by the Tesla!

I just bought a M3P a couple weeks ago. My other car is a Porsche Boxster. The climate and environment had NOTHING to do with my purchase. It was all about performance and the experience for the buck. Thank you for making the exact same point. I’m a car nut, I have been my whole life, and I still am. The car is a blast to drive, and the sensations are completely different than a gas car. Each has their place, and I enjoy driving both. Oh, and in my day job, I burn jet fuel.
Very nice! 737 here, you?
The good news is that even though your purchase decision had nothing to do with climate and environment you ARE helping both!
Same reason I bought mine! I have a ‘22 M3P and now that the new one is out mine seems a bit outdated ha… I’m going with the S next time though, not sure if I’ll spring for the Plaid or not, even my ‘22 M3P feels more than quick enough, and the Model S LR is even quicker than the new M3P. If I do get the Plaid it’ll be for bragging rights and no other reason.
I bought a MYP in May, it shares my garage with my 2016 981 Spyder. Horses for courses, it snows here in the Sierra Nevada. I bought TSLA @$20 in 2019 because of climate change. I’m a nerd 🤓
@@clu4u Nerd? Perhaps, but very fortunate indeed! Not too many 918's around!
*Edit*
I assumed 981 was a dyslexic typo because I’d never heard of the 981 model designation, so I was geeking out thinking you actually meant 918, but now I realize you meant a 981 Caymen. 😆 still a special car though.
Both are great cars. I wish folks would stop hating on EVs. Mostly i've found it's because they feel threatened or sad the car they spent years working on gets walked by a car that doesn't make big rumbles. There is room for both in the car world and we should learn appreciate what they all bring to the table!
You said it best at the end of the vid. Drive your cars, people, and appreciate what others find joy in. As someone who has owned several 5.0Ls and EVs, i can tell you they both bring me joy.
Thanks for sticking around to the end.
I don't hate on EVs in general, but this Tesla should not be called performance with these weak brakes. Maybe they should sell an optional performance package tih bigger brakes and that unlocks more power. But sure, the Tesla is good for crusing the street and racing between the red lights.
@@phyr-4gIt’s quite simple, Teslas are American muscle cars. It’s that simple. BTW, my MYP has upgraded brakes, but not like my carbon ceramics on my 981 Spyder. You need at least two cars
@@phyr-4g technically they sell the increased package for the track
@@phyr-4gthis model’s brakes are not weak
I have a 22 m3p and its properly quick. This new one....means serious business!
every time i read this as a EU citize, a tear appear
That 718 makes my bones tingle. Love it so much. That Model 3 Performance is no joke. Full respect because I want both of these.
Great video, reallly appreciate the honest, common sense talk, especially at the end
Thanks for watching it through!
I’ve heard many times that the new model 3 performance is seriously underrated in the numbers. Someone dynoed one at 620hp or so. That’s instant hp and torque, as well. That’s crazy. I have a model y performance and for a ‘grocery getter’ family car, even that thing doesn’t lose to many vehicles from the light. To think this new M3P would leave my MYP behind is just wild
Have both and even the old M3P leaves my MYP for dead no question it’s not even close in real life. Looks closer on paper
I have an MY LR with acceleration boost and it's already too much for my family, but not for me! Nevertheless excelent quick family cars and cheap km!
To put thing into perspective, the cheapest model 3 is 250hp (older sr+ is 280hp) an long range with acc boost addon is over 450hp and the old model 3 performance is 480-500hp.
the new model 3 performance can totally smoked the older model 3 performance, which would explain the sandbagged HP !
Instant torque, not HP.
Should have kids in the back seat waving bye bye to the Porsche. 😂
@@wydryfly now that’s funny af 💀
i own Tesla, Lotus Eletre R+ but i prefer Porsche and Ferrari V12 anyway.
Awesome commentary on Electric vs ICE. Thank you! Just got my Tesla Model 3 Performance in June and all the hate is baffling. Be happy for everyone who likes their cars.
Thanks for watching all the way through and congrats on your new car!
Thank you for giving an unbiased view on cars. People who love cars love cars. How the power gets there is part of the experience, but personal preference determines what is best for the owner. I drove a manual 6 speed mustang before I got my Model Y performance, and I love both for different reasons.
Exacty correctly were not all to save the world, or hug trees...not that I have anything against trees. Ev's are just really easy to drive, perfect for everyday work commute
so true hahaha i always say i just wanted a really fast car
Nobody needs that cynicism when not gifted by fathers money and had to build an own company. Starting in 2009 with a first EV, we are now fully electric, have PV, chargers and backup batteries. So TCO are dramatically a high 30% lower and 54 years we mostly drove German Premium and never US made shit. But Tesla changed that all, as well my personal favorite is a Kia EV6 AWD with in my opinion better drivetrain. This from former BMW M-Sports boss Albert Biermann which delivered something that on our curvy tracks is more important than idiot straight line acceleration races that have nothing to do with really driving a car.
yea i bought a model 3 and idgaf about the environment lmao
Thanks for the video very detailed and well done. That Tesla trap speed is nuts. Porsche is an awesome car but Tesla is so much better daily; cheaper, less worries about it getting beat up, and 5 seats.
Nicely done. Perfect point of conversation. I’ve got Type R for weekend driving. MYP for daily smiles per KW.
I have a Tesla Plaid and a Corvette Z06 and its possible to love both an EV and a ICE car. They bring different values to the table. The Plaid for everyday use and roadtrips and the Z06 for trackdays and weekend fun drives. Out of 20000miles driven pr year the 17000 are in the Plaid and about 3000 in the Z06
Hell yeah sweet car choices man
The problem is, there are many Tesla owners who think, ICE owners are evil people polluting the earth and so they shit on ICE owners. They think they are on a moral high ground.
Man that message at the end, you nailed it! Everyone in the car community needs to hear that. We’re all here for the love of cars, just because I drive an EV doesn’t invalidate your experience, and vice versa. People think it’s a zero sum game, and it’s not. Enjoy life people! Let’s share in that as a community.
Well said!
Great racing! Interesting comparison between ice and electric vehicles! Good job to you and Vince!👍
Perfect! Enjoy your car. Don’t judge others. Let’s all just get along. If we wanted to be perfect we would all be walking in our birthday suits. Everything we do burns fuel either directly or indirectly. I don’t see people judging someone for using an electric drill. Thanks for the video, cool cars.
So true! Just have fun in whatever you want. I love both
I appreciate your words at the end. I've been a car guy my whole life, my favorite toys as a kid were matchbox cars, which I still have 40 years later. I've owned over 30 cars/trucks of all types, including many sports cars and muscle cars. Too many to list here. My 2024 Tesla Y Performance is the best vehicle I've ever had overall. I didn't buy it to make a political statement. I bought it to do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and have plenty of room for cargo. When they redesign the Y to match the new features of the 3P, I'll upgrade. My desire to buy another ICE car is nonexistent at this point, since I can't afford an exotic.
Interesting experience! Thanks for your feedback, it really does say a lot that the Y is your favorite.
Tesla for the win!

Porsches are very cool but so expensive these days.
I switched from Porsche to Tesla because of running/maintenance costs
I used to watch your videos when i had my CTS and i appreciated the quality of the videos, it's great seeing you get further ahead with great quality vids and honestly,a perfect opinion on the whole ICE vs EVs debate.
I love both (and i miss my Caddy 😢 beautiful car)
Pretty much the same reason why I switched as well. Plus I have solar, so charging my Tesla at home is cheaper and more convenient for me than lining up for gas at Costco.
Thanks for being a long time viewer!
It is cool until it gets smoked by a higher trim entry model Tesla. 😢
Great video! I really liked the production of it. Really entertaining. Super jealous of your GT4. That is such an awesome car. Heating the battery definitely would have made your Model 3 quicker. Thanks for the shoutout. You definitely earned the subscription.

You are spot on about not everyone that owns a Tesla does so to save the trees. I have a lifted and deleted Duramax, a head/cam/intake/stalled LS 4th gen F-body, and a turbo LS 4th gen F-body and I just bought a Tesla because they are awesome daily driver cars from a comfort and ease of driving perspective.
Great video. I like a lot the end considerations! I love cars, I tried many, my heart still belong to my old MX-5 with manual gear and no electronics, but now I love my actual Tesla Model 3.
That last speech is what earned the subscribe. 100% agree
Thank you for your take on this. I’m a gearhead that modifies cars and I also own a Tesla. I got a lot more hate than I thought from people I know for buying an EV. I just love cars in general. I love the power and speed capable from an EV. I’m not ready to fully convert to all EV either because I love working on cars.
It’s really not worth a fight between sides nor should it be. We’re all car people at the end of the day.
Thanks! Well said!
Any true automotive enthusiast appreciates anything with wheels. I have had everything from a 70 Judge, Subaru Legacy GT modified, Camaro SS 1LE 6 speed, Audi S3 and many others and now drive a 2023 M3P with a 2024 due in 2 weeks. I still love ICE, but I am thoroughly enjoying my EV's currently. #STOPTHEEVHAIT
So called “enthusiasts” hate what they don’t understand. 2024 MYP and 2016 981 Spyder here.
Nice conclusion 👏
Thanks for sticking around to watch!
Love the ice and ev love. I have both. Let all be friends and enjoy our cars!!
That Telsa Model 3 performance is a heck of a fun car for a great price....I really like your attitude about a ICE vs EV.....we need more of that....
2:25 “I would be more fair if I had a gt4 rs” yeah specs wise that’s correct but the Gt4 rs starts at $150k
What a great perspective on Ev vs ICE. Subscribed 😊
Thanks!
The message at the end was amazing 🔥👏
After roadtripping a Tesla, I'd never go back to ICE. When travelling 1000+ miles, give me a Tesla or put me on an aircraft. ICE sucks for long distance. Toyota, GM and Ford EVs are still far worse though.
I went on a 1100 mile round trip drive a couple of times in my 2024 MYP, it was better than I thought. Lots of Superchargers, it was much faster than when I drove my 2016 P85D.
What about it do you like better? Why such a clear win for you?
Better, faster, safer, cleaner, easier, smarter, and very little maintenance. Roadtrips are unquestionably the weakest point of EVs, but with a Tesla, needing to stop for ~20 minutes every three hours of driving is NOT a major issue. In fact, we end up stopping more often for food and restrooms than for charging. And charging locations are more than sufficient for going anywhere in the US at this point (with the exception of a few extremely remote off-road trails.) The Model Y Long Range has the performance of a sports car, the passenger and cargo space of a mid-sized SUV, and fuel efficiency twice as good as a Prius. The only drawback of an EV is the high up-front cost. Being able to charge at home, over night, and NEVER worry about stopping for fuel is a game-changer. 4 years and 30,000 miles and I've replaced one tire, and added washer fluid. No other issues. 20 hour road trips are a breeze with Auto Pilot (and even easier with FSD.) Finding charging stations requires no effort (the nav system does it automatically.) Sentry mode provides peace of mind where ever I go. And knowing that if, in the worst case scenario, I do get in a car wreck the Tesla Model Y is the safest car on the market. Ice and snow handling is as good or better than almost any other vehicle.
@@jamesschmidt3970 Thanks for your reply. I completely agree. We stop more often so the kids can stretch, than for the battery. We recently bought a MYP. The autopilot leaves something to be desired here in Switzerland, but otherwise the vehicle is an absolute pleasure. I hope we share your reliability also long term.
Thanks for the learnfast plug
I have a M3P and a MB S550 Coupe…EV and ICE…the Benz is nice and smooth but the M3P is more fun. No range anxiety…road trips I use the MB. Running around town, the Tesla and I charge it on a standard 120V outlet…
Fantastic video. Love my Model 3 LR AWD '22, such a joy to drive, and love racing the 992 Cup in iRacing on my fully fledged simrig (all but motion, only transducers there).
Man that Porsche is nice looking some respectable times too, very nice. Love my M3p no better cost/perf option out there. If my CT wasnt on the way I think I would upgrade to the new ludicrous.
Thanks!
Awesome recap at the end!! I wish the media/government would talk to the public this way! Let the masses know that everyone can keep their ice cars, but everyone should also own an EV. Let’s save the planet and it’s not all that bad.
The Porsche starts at over $95.000, is a dedicated "sports" car and it gets smoked by a $65.000 fully speced out EV. Yeah ICE is gonna have some fun "keeping" up
One of the slowest Porsches available and Porsche does not make cars for straight line performance. You are paying for a certain experience and quality with Porsche. You don’t have to buy it.
@@JetFuelOnly still, you get 90% Porsche performance for 1/2 Porsche price, you don't get the Porsche sock unfortunately though😆
Every company of every product on market today talks about " experience not numbers".
But this race is a clean comparison.
Who buys a Porsche wants a fast drag car too! It's obvious!
Taycan only exists because of model S
Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS start at 170.000 euro
I have a 23 M3P. Love the car, few cars can beat at its price point. IMO tho, Porsche is the ultimate drivers car but at a much higher price tag.
Gotta say I have a 2024 M3P but I’d love to have a GT4 or a GT3 if I’m dreaming…Be a great combo!

I just got a 718 GT4 w/PDK. Do you usually launch control with ESC + TC OFF? Or leave them both on as you’ve shown in the drag races?
Awesome vids btw!
I thought you could only do it with it on, but someone else said it seems to work off too. I haven't tried. Check your manual - it should tell ya
Love the content . Thanks for all you do !!
So much space for different options. The more the merrier.
Good races! Preheating the battery helps a ton. Glad you found out about it.

Nice people, beautiful cars, great memories 🎉❤
I enjoy my ND2 MX5 and my new 24 M3P. As a daily a car like the M3P is great. Relatively good priced(much more expensive here), great performance, rather big interior, nice ride now with the active dampers and it's a quiet ride. Also having an EV no need to think of fluids etc getting warm before either having to stop or if you want to hoon it.
However I have a eurospec M3P and it's waaay slower unfortunately due to the LG battery. Have some dragy runs on my YT channel
Thanks for the video
Still not bad! Thanks for sharing.

Props for being real about everything. The GT4 is an amazing car, but Teslas, well just something else and silent.

SoC and (more importantly) battery temperature in these runs?
LearningFast recorded 10.75 on track if I remember correctly, with a warm battery.
We didn’t monitor temp. But yes that would have helped

So sick of the ev hate. I drive a 1969 F250 as a daily driver, but I love EV’s. Thanks for that intro.
They should have gotten a DeMan Cayman GT4.5
That would have been a completely different race!
Honestly surprised how close it was especially as the GT4 is not meant for straight line speed. Also it being 200 hp down. Curious how the Tesla will do vs something that’s meant for the 1/4 mile.
Almost all 911's of current generation will be same or faster as the GT4. The Caymans are slow. :)
Hp to weight makes it much closer than you make it out to be though. Porsches 800#lighter=80hp of that difference. 👍🏻
@@JetFuelOnly hmm. Not sure that's true. I don't believe any 911 other than the Turbo S will do the quarter in under 11 seconds.
Oops sorry meant to say GT4. Just pointing out that it’s one of the slowest Porsches. I corrected it

i drive a tesla because its way more convenient than gas. The worst part about driving a tesla is the saving the planet part. I actually try and counter the benefit i do for the planet by not reycling and burning trash in my backyard. mainly plastic and oil
yeah, I have the same problem. How can I still trash the planet while driving this crazy fast car for free? A real conundrum.
$48K for the Tesla, has to be the performance begin of the decade, maybe ever. The new Model 3 needs a PLAID option. Now that would be fun.
8:39 wow the built in cameras on teslas today are so good i had no idea it was used in this videos until the front camera, crazy!

Damn impressive
the porsche is prettier (by far) but I'd rather buy the M3P all day!
I'm soon replacing my 2022 Polestar 2 (leased) with a new Model 3 Performance. I have a lot of respect for cars like the GT4, M2, M3, M4 Comp etc, but I'm just so over ICE
I do like your comment at the end of the video.
Yes, if you don't like EVs, just don't buy it. At least, EVs don't bother you with noise and exhaust. EVs don't clog your pumps, either. Just leave EVs alone. They pay same taxes and dues. Plus, my EVs are made in USA, not like those German made ICEs.
Yes, as a 2 EV owner for the past 3+ years, my family had never been happier. Due to kids' school schedules and my job, we rarely go on road trips. So, commuting with EVs has been just so convenient and flawless. Recently, I had to be relocated due to out of state job, and I brought my EV from the East to the West. It took me 3 days and 20+ charge sessions but there was no single issue. Of course, I wouldn't do it again with EVs but how often will I ever do this kind of long trip by car?
Anyway, I enjoyed your video, and I won't buy another ICE for any reason. EVs are superior to ICE. It's a matter of time, not if!
Thanks for watching!
the gt4 is 100k it would be better to compare it to a plaid 😂
The money for a Porsche isn’t buying you speed. You are paying for an experience that some of us prefer. Oh and it pays for clean panel gaps 😂

TESLAAAAAA 🥰
not even remotely close - most super cars cant keep up with that tesla
Interesting times when a hugely practical 4 door sedan is faster than a 2 seat sportscar. While this test didn't assess the curvy road prowess of each car, it's getting harder and harder to justify a Porsche or Corvette. As someone who has grown up around manual transmission, lightweight sports cars, the reasons for buying a 2 seater are definitely morphing. While it used to be that this was the only way to get optimal performance, now the main reason is for the visceral experience. The problem with modern sports cars is that simply don't offer the visceral experience of their ancestors. From a gearhead perspective it seems that the best option in these times is to buy a Model 3 Performance and an old Cayman or Miata....with manual transmission.
Yup!
The USA is lucky because most of its terrain is in relatively low altitudes, so N/A engines have their full power. In other countries we have altitudes of over 5-7 thousand feet so in that case ICE cars are so mega over. Electric cars do not suffer from low oxygen density
Was the model 3 in track mode? It didn't look to be from the front display.
Yes. But batteries were not preconditioned for maximum effort.
It's cute that people think Porsche can't make faster cars than Tesla. They just don't want to yet, since most of their sales are still ICE car enthusiasts.
What was you State Of Charge %, when you started the race?
90-92%
it would be nice to make a "coupe" version of the model 3 pereformance with a lower, less bulby roofline
Maybe the Roadster will show up some day
@@JetFuelOnly sure, some day, but just a "coupe" version of the M3P with only changes to the roofline and price in the same range would be nice. the M3 has a low belt line and bulbous green house that doesn't make it look very sporty. some people like sleepers with practicality and some don't. it could have the same wheelbase and rear seats but less headroom, especially in the back maybe slighlty lower seats, and discreet back doors with no handles that blend in. also slightly lower ground clearance
In Bracket Racing, reaction time does not matter. You just have to get as close to your prescribed time.
Your prescribed time includes the reaction time. You sleep at the light and run 11.5 you are rated as doing 11.5 plus reaction. You will lose. Also why red light is disqualifying.
@@JetFuelOnly unfortunately no. in bracket racing, i can wait to ensure I get a perfect launch after the light turns green. This way I can make the time I prescribed. Won a few bracket races in my day =). Reaction time is only important in heads up racing. This is why redlight is used. Early jumpers give you automatic Ls.
I'm personally selling my M3P and getting a higher en Pertrol car. EVs are great if you want to commute. But, imho a bit too dull.
I think Hyundai came up with the answer with the Ioniq5N. Makes all the right noises and it even makes you shift.....more than I can say for the Porsche.
I am getting a model 3 performance. Is there an option to add more power to it than stock from Tesla?
You will need to join a Tesla Facebook group or forum for more info like that.
@@JetFuelOnly unfortunately, I do not have Facebook. I wonder if there’s more hp you can “download” from Tesla? Either way, thank you and awesome video!
@@l6echo53 as far as I know - no. It’s all electronically controlled. Not sure if people have developed tunes or hacks.
The very first Model 3P on some tracks (short, actual lap) could match or beat the 458 Italia.
Where does the new one sit?
Did Model 3P improve more or less than cars like the 458? Today's equivalent would be the 296, I guess?
Not sure but someone recently set an MP3 Record on Laguna Seca. 1:34 I think. For no -pro driver that’s around GT4-RS and many GT3 times.
I'm to the far right politically, I drive a Tesla. It's exactly what you said at the end. I bought it because NOTHING can touch it for the price. 0 to 60 3 seconds and all the other features for 50k after tax rebate. I can charge at home. I can do a 200 mile round trip. Its exceedingly rare that I need to chage at a public charger. If you are like me and just drive to work and back or drive to a 50 mile away place and back, buy one. Hands down. If you regularly need to go over 200 miles, don't. It's that simple. Both can exist.
Well said!

Neither of these are drag cars, where you'd really appreciate the differences would be on windy country roads or at a road course race track.
True but the ZEVcentric car was able to do Laguna Seca only a second slower than me in the GT4 - and I’m not a slow driver. However the MP3 Is only good for a few laps.
In a few months when they add a real launch control, Tesla Model 3 Performance should be around 10.5 ish, range...
Hmmm what would they change exactly?
