Growing up in the late 60s my dads neighbor had a Lance Wagon similar to this with manual column shift and slant 6 that he left the keys in at all times in case a neighbor needed to borrow it. My dad once asked him was he worried about it being stolen and he replied "Anyone that desperate for a vehicle can have it!"
That little Lancer cleaned up well. Haven’t seen one of these in many years. It does bring back memories too. My Mom’s best friend had one of the these, white with a red interior, up until 1971. I rode in it many times as a kid.
The paint on this seems like a real challenge… with hand painted parts and old faded factory paint… you really brought it back to life! It’s a cool old wagon, I can’t wait to see what happens with it
Nice to see a collaboration with another UA-cam channel. With any luck, some Hagerty viewers will become new Detail Dane subscribers. Good work on the Lancer, that paint looks heaps better.
Boy this brings back memories. My Dad love to trade cars. He traded a GMC panel truck for one of these in the early 70's. Ours was white and the inside smelled funny not bad but not new car smell either. My Dad rebuilt the transmission out of this car. My Dad had quit drinking and had promised Mom he would stop cussing. That transmission made that really hard. Ah memories of childhood.
I once washed cars at a Used car lot when I was a teenager. One of the perks was I could use their lift and hot steam pressure washer to do my own car. I always had the cleanest car of all my friends.
My dad bought one new. Suburban 770 wagon in glacier blue. Great futuristic instrument cluster....miss you 😢 l have the little 770 badge that was attached to the speaker grill let me know if you need it.
A shame another old car about to get ruined. The Slant 6 is a terrific motor. Before long , there won't be many authentic old cars left when they keep falling into the wrong hands.
One of the old Virgil Exner designs. What are your plans for it? - I've never seen anybody build one of these up; it has great lines to begin with so you might want to not mess with it much. - PLEASE do not take the easy route - do not LS swap it. That would be highly disappointing. - Since the original had a Slant Six, perhaps another Six might fit - such as one with twin cams, 24 valves, and twin turbos.
This is one of those cars you want to say is so ugly, it's cute - but, no, it's just ugly. Thought they were goofy-looking when I was a kid and they haven't improved in 63 years. Exner had really gone off the rails by this time. Not a wonder he retired after this.

Im just going to throw this out here, this channel is 100 times better than the detail geek. Really enjoying the content. Keep it up Bro!
Tired of detail geek calling everything gross and nasty
Very well done!! I couldn’t believe how flat the paint was before getting polished
@Toyota--Camry I almost thought it was just basecoat with no clear 😂 it came out alot better I appreciate it 🙏
Love the wagon! Great work Dane!

Wow nice work 🙏🙏🙏👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Davin said to go watch this video and I looked for it, but it wasn't published yet. Here it is!
I was alittle behind 😂 thanks for the Watch! 🙌

I hope they restore it to stock.
That paint job needs a good color sand with 300 grit paper. It would really shine with another buff and polish. Looking good, man.
Nice Lancer wagon.
Would love to see what the floor pans look like under that carpeting. How was the all-important frame rails?
I hope you don't mind, but I gave your channel a shout out in my Ye Ol' Garage episode today.
The Chrysler Corp. Used a heavy enamel paint for years, it wore very well!!!
Nice job sir Nice car good show sir 😃👏👏👏👍👍👍👍😍
Kylo Ren details old classics now??? No way! That's cool!
Who is Kylo Ren? 😂
Rebuild the that slant 6 add some mods she will be an awesome grocery getter 😂

Keep it gangsta, dawg, keep it gangsta.
Those 1st gen Lancers and Valiants were strangely styled vehicles.
My arms are sore just watching!
Love the format and what a car! Lucky you to be able to work on it. Got a question.....
What polish are you using?
Appreciate it 🙏 it's a Flex POLISHER. Can buy from WWW.DETAILDANESTORE.COM 10% Off with code Detail_Dane 🔥
@@DetailDane sorry I meant to ask what compound you're using
@@darrenmetal3338 Jescar Heavy Compound and followed by Jescar Micro Finishing Polish
@@DetailDane Thnx Dane. I like trying out other compounds . I mainly use Menzerna
The front end looks similar to a 1960 Pontiac...
Good job man
Very good
Such a rare car in solid condition should be left stock.
Love your details ❤ but no iron in the paint removal?
👍👍👍
I knew about the Valiant wagon, but never the Lancer wagon.
Job good👍

Rey similar to the Chrysler Valiant sold in Australia.
Dane, seeing how dark that pad was, how often do you clean it, or do you, between panels?
@btaxel I clean it between panels but that single stage old paint they had on there came off really dark every panel making my pad super filthy haha
❤
In fact very similar to the contemporary Plymouth Valiant.
I want this car after they get it running
Hi, aggressive buffing single stage metallic...heavy compound bad idea
Omg this car is as old as I am
Kind of hard to see where you can do horizonal mambo.
Great job, you are outstanding! Too bad you are far from me!
Yeah Davin is being tight lipped with the plan other than "more" horsepower than the original engine. It should be an interesting build.
Need more cleaning with brush 😊
Your wish is my command! 🙌
@@DetailDane ^^
U should wear a respirator when ur steaming
Noted ✅️
If a machine is used to polish on, why is machine NOT used to take off polish? I think machine removal would cause more shine....
OMG dude what was in your pocket?
elo
Free 😂

Still a ugly car
