- Let's try something new! In this video I will go through my whole day and show you what I eat and what my kids eat. This is a typical weekday for us, so nothing fancy but I will show you all the food and how we make it. You will get a good idea of how we typically eat in our Orthodox Jewish home where we keep strict kosher as well as gluten free because one of my kid's has Celiac.
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

What's one of your favorite meals to prepare or eat?
Even though I didn't make it today, spaghetti bolognese is my favorite to make for my family :)
I love making soups with my homemade bone broth and fresh bread 💕
I’ve totally tried the octopus hotdogs! It’s a bit fiddly, but I think they are worth the effect.
Thai green curry in the slow cooker
@@raisingthemsimply That sounds so delicious and comforting!
One thing I’ve always respected about your channel is that you don’t really show your children’s faces. Yet, you still can include them in videos while honoring their privacy. That’s a tough balance but you do it well!
Thank you so much Elizabeth:) I really appreciate that :) They always want to be in my videos and I’m always telling them why I won’t lol
I really agree with this!
@@heathermayfield4247 Thank you so much Heather :)
I agree! I'm learning that some children, when they are old enough to understand the impact of social media, they don't appreciate that they "grew up on Facebook" or Instagram or whatever. I'm guilty of this in the past with my grandchildren but now I don't even share memories that pop up.
It's great that you respect their privacy especially knowing how many not so nice people are out there. You're an amazing Mom!
@@thecatlady6 thank you 💖 As little as I show of my kids I have still gotten mean comments about my kids. Some people I just don’t understand!
As a mom of littles, my fave clip was you holed up in the laundry room eating ice cream. I feel this life choice in my soul. Mommin' Hard in 2021 💪🤣 lolololol
Right?!?!? I pretty much need a little sneaky chocolate break each day, I have candy bars in my study, cookies in the pantry, and ice cream in the freezer 😁 Sometimes I have secret pudding in the fridge 😂
@@jaroffireflies yesssssssss!! ♥️
@@jaroffireflies oh that is so funny but also a relief to know that it is not just me. I used to hide things in my lingerie but my daughter clued to that and now I hide all my secret stash in a box in the laundry. NO ONE ever looks in there! No one else ever uses the laundry, lol.
@@catherinenunan3584 The laundry is the perfect place to hide! Its so true that only we go in there!
It's been so long since my girls were little, I forgot how I had to hide my treats 😂! They were both on special diets which I followed for our meals but I needed some of those "forbidden foods" hidden away for just me lol.
Absolutely love the video! One thing I would really love is if you did a video about why Judaism spoke to you. I know on your conversion video you said that it made the most sense or it spoke to you but I’d love a more in-depth video about why. I think we all have stories about how we came to the faith we believe in and I’d love a more detail!
Thank you so much for the suggestion!
Kosher and Gluten free here, too! I absolutely adore the little octopuses - empty nest here, but I need no excuses to make food fun.
We can always make food fun for ourselves! 😁
Empty nesters unite!!! 🙌🌟🥰 Happy Holidays! ♥️🤶
I'm having a good day. My uncle took me to Chick-fii-A. We went to Dollar Tree. I couldn't find boxed Christmas cards, they sold out of them? I went to Aldi. I bought my uncle a bottle of red wine for Christmas, I do this every year because he takes me out to lunch on Thursdays. It's amazing, you can spend $30 at Aldi's and at another store you would be spending $50 - $60!!!! It's a great deal.
So glad you’re having a good day!
Kitchen sheers, for the hotdogs, are a game changer.
Thanks so much I’ll definitely try that next time
When you said "octopus" hot dogs I had to re-wind, thinking I was crazy. But then, thought oh no Hanna is ;) Adorable!!!
😂😂😂 when I was editing I was like hmmmn that might be confusing lol
Well Chana I enjoyed watching you make all your meals. I have been watching your video and it brought me many happy memories of when my children were young. I am watching your video from a lovely hotel bed as my friends and I are on a Christmas shopping break. That is one of the perks of of having grown up children but I would rather be asking them what they wanted for lunch. 🤔❤️Ireland x
Happy shopping! Sounds like a fun trip!
Bonus points for the chocolate ice cream!! 💞
Lol right?!
Hi Chana: What a thoughtful mom you are..octopus hot dogs! Your kiddos are blessed. I think you're a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother, in general. Even your cleaning routine is exemplary. There is a peace that comes with keeping a clean home and raising a family, hand-in-hand with your faith. I think that's what life is all about. Thank you for sharing; have a wonderful weekend and a good Shabbat. Rosemarie 💖
Thank you so much for your kind words Rosemarie! You always seem to have the perfect words to cheer me up! 💜
I'm just going to say it... there's nothing better than ice 🍨 cream... Straight out of the 💕container ‼️👌And... I may have had it as a "meal replacement" 😂😋😂😋😂😋
Yessss! Ice cream out of the carton is the appropriate way to eat ice cream lol
I love seeing what other people eat. So interesting!
Love how you sneaked some ice cream, it takes me back when my children were young I did the same thing ,its a treat for bissey mums
This little breaks are lifesavers!
Yes! The Garden Cream cheese is the best! I love these videos about food. You're helping me with kosher brand recognition.
Yay! I’m so happy to hear that! Got another one coming today!
'Coincidentally' yesterday I had put on the menu for today's dinner to make blueberry pancakes with maple syrup & scrambled egg , my husband & I love breakfast for dinner. Trick learned from some cooking TV show for keeping eggshells 🥚out is crack on a flat plate, something about using the flat plate decreases the amount of small shell fragments .
Oh thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely try that! Enjoy your breakfast for dinner :) 💜
Try using kitchen shears for cutting you hot dogs. Shears make prep for many meals so much easier.
Thanks so much for the tip! I’ll try that next time :)
My youngest sister was an ice cream fiend! She would constantly hide in her bedroom, bathroom, really anyplace she could sneak ice cream! When I saw you eating chocolate ice cream in the laundry room , it reminded me of my sister, a great memory! As always a pleasure to watch and learn.....
😂😂😂 she sounds like my soul sister!
Choco Ice Cream YAY Channa- you go girl..needs a dollup of whipped cream!
That would have been fun but the kids would have probably heard that lol
The camera lense totally worked with the sneaky ice cream scene 🤣
Oh good 😅😀🤣
Another amazing video! My mother used to cook Kraft Dinner with octopus hotdogs when my sister and I were younger (roughly 20 years ago). To this day, it still is my favourite childhood meal.
That’s so fun! Love that she did that :)
Hey Chana,
I love all kinds of tajines, vegan 🌱 or with meat. My husband is an expert in this field. Next, there is the green pea soup and the fish and veggie rice.
For pancakes, I like the American, the French and mostly the traditional fermented Moroccan pancakes💕.
Loved the chocolate raisins from Costco. I only eat a few at once. I find them a bit strong.
As for the Oreos, they are my kids’ favourite birthday treat😊
I can also only eat a few of the chocolate raisins at a time!
Do you know what the fermented pancakes are? If you are interested to know more…
I made my kids octopus hotdogs all the time with pasta shells 😊 It was a fan favorite for many years.
Great idea serving it with pasta! I need to that!
@@jaroffireflies Sneak in some spinach "seaweed " 😉
@@jackandpicklesvlogs I like the way you think! 😂
@@jaroffireflies I'm happy its not wasted knowledge 🤪
Love those little sneak snacks. Wonder if my parents did that too. We had breakfast for dinner at least once a week. I always loved it since most mornings were cereal or toast. Lived on bologna and cheese sandwiches for most lunches. All hot dogs were boiled. We had some great meals at night but most breakfast and lunch meals were pretty repetitive. Love that you look for and actually try recipes you have seen online. Now in my senior years, I have become a pescatarian. No hot dogs or bologna any more. BTW love the outtakes.
I don’t eat the hot dogs either, but my kids super love them so we do them once in a while :) Such an easy meal I know they’ll eat! I love fish like you :)
My favorite easy go-to meal is salmon. Place it on a baking sheet and into the oven, done! so simple lol. We usually serve it with couscous and a vegetable.
Delicious! We love salmon as well :) often served with rice in our house :)
Good morning Chana. I’m eating my breakfast and watching your video. ❤️
Enjoy your breakfast and your day!
I tell everyone that if I knew that the next meal I was having would be my last it would be creamy of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. It truly is one of my most favorite meals. It is so warm and comforting. It is like a big hug in a meal.
Loved seeing the glimpses of your sweet children.
Blessings, Shawn
And hiding in the laundry room eating ice cream …. That was so me except I sneak away to my office and I am hiding from the grands! Lol
I am a huge fan of tomato soup and grilled cheese too!
I just wanted to let you know that I find the music you use for your videos SO RELAXING. What cheer and smiles it brings to me. I also enjoyed your breakfast for dinner idea. My husband or I used to do that occasionally for our children when they were little. They're all adults now. One of our favorite recipes was bullet hole eggs where we would cut out a circle from bread that was buttered and cook the egg inside then use the circle as a hat. Fond memories. 😀
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’ve had that kind of eggs before but we called them framed eggs :) I love when people have different names for things!
We call them frog eyes 😁
long ago and far away when i was in my teens i worked in a fast food restaurant. they had an item on the menu featuring hot dogs. you make crosswise slits down the length of the hot dog about a quarter inch apart and then deep fry it quickly. it would curl into a circle. put the round dog onto a soft hamburger bun. into the center of the round dog you could then put an assortment of things such as baked beans, chili or sauerkraut. the sky's the limit. cheers, chana and fam.
Oh that’s fun! Thanks for the tips!
Onigiri is tricky as a left over, try leaving them out as long as you can and then putting them in Tupperware in the fridge with damp kitchen towel over them, keeps them a bit damp and the rice does not dry out as much.
Oh thank you so much for the tips! I was so very disappointed when they tasted dried out :( Especially after how yummy they were the night before
Octopus hotdogs also work really well over a campfire. Cut the dogs the same, shove a roasting stick through the "head" and the legs will do the same thing as they cook over the fire. My husband has also had success using our grill, although, a campfire definitely works better. No oil needed for either method!
Oh what fun! We will have to try this on our next camp out!
I make octopus hot dogs for my kids too except I don't use oil. I put them in a dry skillet and open the legs and sit them straight up in the skillet. It works really well but you have to be careful not to break the legs.
Oh awesome! I didn’t know you could do it without oil!
What? I’m not the only one that eats ice cream straight out of the container…yay! ❤️
😂😂😂 definitely not!
My granddaughter would eat the cookie and the apple. She would not touch the hotdogs! She is not quite 2, but she can now light her menorah all by herself!
Oh wow! When my daughter was three, she started lighting her own Shabbat candle with me 💖
Thank you for sharing, and I love the real life approach 🙌
Love and blessings from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
Thanks Johanne 💜💜💜
Love the octopus! I used to make crepes with home made dried apricots that I cooked down with a little sugar.
That sounds really good! I haven’t made crepes in a long time :)
@@jaroffireflies The crepes and Chicken soup with matzo balls (which I learned to make from my childhood friend) were my go-to kid food when my boys were little. I still love the octopus and I'm going to make them for someone ...I have to find a kid or maybe an adult kid will work!
Good morning Chana and kiddos 💕 💖
Good morning Kristin!
Oh my gosh... When you said octopus hot dogs, I thought, "wow, I didn't know there were hot dogs made from octopus." Shaking my head over here...
One of my favorite comfort meals is spaghetti with meat sauce. You can't go wrong with noodles. :)
When I was editing I thought of that and I was like wow I hope I’m not confusing with what I’m saying lol
@@jaroffireflies I think what you ended up with was better. And cuter.
@@angelateague5792 ok good 😊
Do you say prayers before everything you eat?? Don't worry about the ice cream, it doesn't count as you were standing up. The hot dogs look like they were fun and easy to make. Good Shabbas to you and your family.
Hello Virginia! Yes, I make a blessing on each type food I eat :) I did say one for the ice cream as well. For us it doesn’t matter if we are sitting or standing.
There are too many things I love to list ... 😁 Tonight, we will eat cod fillets and steamed potatoes and vegetables (zucchini, carrots, tomatoes, chicory), with tartar sauce. No doubt we eat quite different things here in Belgium. I really like the ham-chicory gratin with a cheese béchamel sauce ( Christian here 😉). And also a very simple country recipe my parents made: cos lettuce with potatoes and a simple vinegar sauce with bacon. These two dishes were also very popular with our children.
Your meals sound so good!!!
Oh the look of delight as you were “scoffing” your ice cream in the laundry. Priceless! (P.S. we’ve all done it!)
It was sooooo good!
I absolutely LOVE Canyon Bakehouse!! Cliff bars rock! Also eat most of the other yummies you do! Amy's & Yes brand creamy basil tomato are great!
Oh it’s totally our favorite sandwich bread now!!! I love that they sell it at Costco too. I’ll have to look into that soup!
I am definitely going to try the hotdog octopii idea!
Enjoy!

My second child (he's all grown up now) never had milk in his cereal either. This brought back those memories! Thanks for your video!
Oh that’s so fun! I actually love it when they don’t put milk in their cereal because if they don’t finish I can toss it in a container in my bag and they have a snack for later :)
P.S. Chana, that's my favorite meal..breakfast for dinner, or any time at all! 🤗 Rosemarie 💖
Yummm! It’s definitely a proven favorite in our house too!
Hi Channa....a fun thing to do with the weiner octopi if you have the time while cooking is once they open out into legs, stand them up and brown the undersides....it makes them pleasantly crispy. A bit like campfire cooking.
Thanks for the tip! That totally makes sense!
I had 2 bagels with cream cheese for breakfast today. My favourites. I love the octopus hot dogs. Makes them fun for children.
Yum! Bagels and cream cheese has been my fav lately too :)
Yum ! 😋 you made me smile having the ice cream haha. I have done exactly the same ! Thank you sharing your day Chana 🤓💫🇬🇧
Yay for ice cream breaks!
Hi Chana. I forgot to mention after your last video when you mentioned that you have hard water, a water softener would take care of that for you. Two tips if you go that way, don't use Morton salt in it. It doesn't dissolve and settles like cement. That stuff ruined mine use red out which dissolves completely. Secondly, only use half of the soap that you would normally use. It will take forever to get it out of clothes and off of you if you don't cut it in half!!
Thanks for the tips Claudia! 💜
You are very welcome!!
I used to make hot dog octopi when my kiddo was little. She loved them! Happy memories.
Aw so fun!

I ate a half pint of vanilla /caramel ice cream last night out of the carton😂 and I don’t have littles around! Great video, Chana. The little I saw of the kids, they are adorable.
I have an off topic question or two😁. Your kids are very young, but do they know how athletic you were and the marathons? If so have they shown a desire to do any of that?
Also, I quilt and cross stitch. On Shabbat are you allowed to do any handwork? I know the machine would be a no.
My favorite meal to prepare would be spaghetti pie. It’s not like your typical recipe for that. Got it from a friend and the whole family loves it. A big request.
Hi Sandy! So glad you enjoyed your ice cream 💖 To answer your questions… yes my kids know I used to compete in some big events, but I don’t think they have much of an idea of how big they really were :) No, I cannot create on Shabbat also no weaving or sewing so that pretty much eliminates all the crafty things. But honestly I’m so busy on Shabbat it’s not missed :)
Cant help but comment on your son who ate his cookie first. He made me smile. I would choose dessert over food any day. Thanks for continuing to brighten my day.
Lol I always plate things together and let them choose :) I was honestly surprised they didn’t all do it lolol
Hi, sweet Chana! I so enjoyed this video. You make food prep look so easy! I loved your octopi! Thank you for your beautiful content. 🫂

Thank you Manuela 💜
My daughter and I made octopus hot dogs for one of her daughters for her mermaid birthday party. We boiled ours in water, they looked like octopus when finished. They were a hit at the party.
What fun!
In reference to your plates, I have something similar, they were trays that had a place for the sandwich, place for the fruit and then a place for the utensils. so I think it was like a whole tray but it had a little compartments in it. I Purchased them from Tupperware probably 20 years ago. We still use them. Best money I ever spent. My husband ends up using them all the time, especially since he’s been working from home full-time. He’ll put his bagel, his fruit salad and his coffee cup on the tray and carry it to his office. It’s kind of cute.lol
I love that! These little trays/plates were such a great purchase. I’m thinking about investing in some larger ones now that my kids are older and eat more :)
Hi Chana. I love breakfast for dinner and always have. I can't have syrup on pancakes because of my diabetes but I found a great sugar free raspberry jam. Very good!! Your kids are adorable and are growing so fast. Hello to your husband as well. I hope he will be in another video soon. Thank you for another fantastic video!!
Hi Claudia! Breakfast for dinner is always a hit with my kids :) that’s awesome you found a jam that works!
Love the octopus hot dog idea. Will have to do this for my nephews some time.
Enjoy it! It was a huge hit with my kids and they are already asking for it again 💜
Love what you did with the hotdogs. i will try that the next time my grandkids come to visit. I put my pancake batter in a gravy boat and pour that into the pan. I have trouble making my pancakes round. this helps me a lot. So enjoy watching the food you make. Have a great rest of your week.
Great idea on the gravy boat! Enjoy the hot dogs with your grand kids!

Thank you so much Linda! I really appreciate that!
Do you ever make oinari-san? I think that’s what it’s called…or maybe inari? It’s so good because it’s slightly sweet with the tofu curd and salty from the rice, I think and it’s even good with wasabi and soy sauce. I’d love to try any of your recipes (family recipes-lol). Thanks for your video and the octopus hotdogs had me fooled at the onset…I thought they were made of octopus! You’re a blessing in this world.
I’ve never heard of oinari San! Thanks I will look into that! I love trying new things :)
can i just tell you how happy i am to see that other moms feed their kids chocolate for bfast?
😂😂🤣 I am so glad you appreciated that! My mom so rarely bought cereal like that when I was little so I’m living vicariously through them a bit I think lol
This was cool, i am trying to learn to eat Kosher (I'm not Jewish so its all new) - its hard to find easy meals for one as i'm not a great cook - so this is a lot of what i like to eat and things i can make, just have to use kosher products and keep meat and dairy separate. Vegan sausage patties will make my life a lot better.
I've been thinking about bagels a lot lately myself. I like the Everything bagels the best, and Aldi's had them, so I grabbed one. I like all cream cheeses (honey nut is my favortie though), I don't like plain cream cheese.
I usually go with plain bagels and fun cream cheese :)
Hot dog octopus!! I forgot about those! I used to serve them to my son when he was little I'm when he was lit off, but I would boil them not that that makes a difference!
I used to serve them swimming in macaroni and cheese or baked beans.
I love that your kids eat dry cereal! When I was little and even now I really don't like milk at all, so I always eat cereal dry.
I'm not sure what my voice recognition was doing the air, but I'm sorry for the confusing post!
I understand what you meant :)
I’d love to serve them in beans for my kids! What a great idea!!!

I’m having breakfast for dinner too! Except mine is a roasted veggie hash topped with a fried egg and some feta. I have no little kids to feed, just me, so I can get a little fancy. Interestingly, the blood spot that you find in chicken eggs is only sort of blood. It’s actually what happens to a fertilized egg when the cells for the new baby chick begin to divide and grow. Of course, once the egg leaves underneath mama hen and goes into the fridge that cell division stops, but it takes about 24ish hours from being laid for that to develop. Most commercial egg laying operations don’t keep roosters, so the eggs wouldn’t be fertilized. But even if the farm did, as long as the egg is pulled and refrigerated soon after being laid, it shouldn’t be long enough to develop a blood spot like that. They are, however, much more common in backyard or farmers’ market eggs.
Yay for breakfast for dinner! Thanks for the info about the eggs. I knew some of that, but not all! I appreciate the education :) I still check my eggs just in case :)
Hi Chana 😊

I like how you make cooking fun and easy. I'm glad you explained the oil with the hotdogs. Do your kids know which forks are for meat or dairy? It seems they would be proud to know that, like when they help with the hectare and gluten free labels when shopping.
I don't cook at all, ever (disability related plus I don't enjoy it). My favorites to eat are spaghetti, chicken thighs, and corned beef with cabbage.
Corned beef cabbage is so good! I have an Irish friend who makes it once a year or so and it’s always delicious! Yes, my kids do know and even my youngest will ask me before a meal “is this meat or dairy?” So he can grab the correct utensils :)
Hi Chana, Warm greetings from snowy Spokane Washington ❤️ I have heard that utensils are not necessarily always Kosher. Do you bring your own utensils along on trips and/or, bring a picnic basket with “the works” like plates and such just to be sure? Much love to all!
Hello from warm-ish Texas! All the utensils / dishes that we own are kosher. So we bring those with us on picnics, though disposable is fine to use as well as far as kosher is concerned. Kosher restaurants are also no problem.
I do the same for my grandsons but I leave the dog whole it looks super knarly❤
Oh I may need to try that! Sounds awesome!
I had to cook for people that work with us plus my family. The request was fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn on the cob and cornbread. The Octopus hot dogs were so cute! It’s been years since I have seen had them. Loved your chocolate ice cream break. I have a question… I am sure that you have answered this somewhere before. Why can’t you eat dairy with a “meat” fork?
So we take the desperation of meat and dairy very seriously. It’s part of keeping kosher. So we don’t even use the same utensils or pots or even the same oven :) I talk about it more in my kitchen tour video here if you’re interested: ua-cam.com/video/4jAL4JP9E0I/v-deo.html
@@jaroffireflies Thank you for the explanation
I love simple meals-sandwiches, soup and salads for supper if my energy wanes. Also love tacos, pasta meals. Buddha bowels are a favorite where I can change up the sauce and veggies for variety toppers for the beans, tofu, tempeh and rice or quinoa. Once a week I like to make up a separate pots of beans and rice which will last for 3 days of Buddha bowels.. Whiz up a quick sauce in the blender, ( peanut sauce, hummus sauce, goddess dressing, Alfredo, barbecue, pesto, etc.) What brand of kosher aged cheese do get? I have trouble finding it.
Hi Ellen! Simple meals are my favorite too :) I don’t want to spend all day in the kitchen :) I’m not sure which brand of cheeses we get, I get whatever they have at our kosher store. I checked my fridge but the package is gone on what I have left right now.
I love breakfast for dinner. We had that growing up snd when my boys were little. They also have breakfast for dinner sometimes with their family. How do you tell your silverware apart? Do you have a space for dairy versus meat forks? Hope you have a great rest of your week!
Hi Debbie! Yes, I show you how I keep them separate and what they look like and all that in my kitchen tour video. Here’s a link: ua-cam.com/video/4jAL4JP9E0I/v-deo.html
Awesome video! 😊😊💜💜
Thank you!
Ohhh I love the veggie cream chees also!
It’s my favorite!
I love strawberry cream cheese. Oh my !! It is so good.
As I’m mom of 29 years , I did find a way to make my pancakes perfect. I used a flea skillet and a messing cut to dip the batter and put on the griddle. I usually use 1/3 of a cup size and they turned out perfectly. The size is always consistent. We don’t eat them very often as we’re dairy free, gluten free and egg free. Awe…food allergies.
This mix I tried was gluten free, dairy free, and egg free! You should totally try it!
Goooodieeee!!!! 🙌🌟
@@jaroffireflies I think we'll be trying it soon too! I saved the video for when I put together my next shopping list so I can include it.
In addition to the brand Chana showed, there are a lot of vegan gluten-free pancake recipes on the internet. I haven't tried them yet though I'd like to. I don't have allergies but I'm vegetarian transitioning to vegan and have to be gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free for other medical reasons.
@@thecatlady6 enjoy!!!
I love Puka three mint 🥰 I love that you all went gluten free over one family member 🙌🥰🔥🌟
Thank you :) He was only barely 4 when he was diagnosed with celiac, it’s seemed to be the only thing to do :)
