I was a nanny in my late teens/early 20’s for a local Jewish (non orthodox- though by watching your videos they may be more orthodox then reform) and your videos bring back happy and funny memories (me learning about Jewish traditions in my young inexperienced way🤣) and times with the family. Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here! I don’t even know if my stove has a Shabbat mode so I don’t know that it would be useful lol We don’t even use the Shabbat mode on the oven so I may not be the one to ask 😂
Heaven Lane... my first job as a teenager was as a live in nanny for a Jewish family. What an eye opener for a young girl from the country living in one of the best beach sides suburbs, being introduced to a totally different way of life. I loved it all, the traditions, the rituals, the dramas! Very special memories for me too, but I have to say, the work of a Jewish wife and mother seems never ending.
If you make the cake the same next time cut in rectangles. Put the icing then cut in cookies size triangles.second layer can be white with chocolate slivers or sparkling.less waste of the cake and for the adults in a little deep dish you can place in brandy and top tad cinnamon on top. I also keep cans of fruits on hand which can be served cold or warm, your husband will recognize it as compot. His food is almost duplicated from my shabat also. I remember in my family it was my job to set the table after my mom placed the cloth. One chore off her hands on Shabat. We ate lunch in kitchen table to keep the Shabat table spotless. With work and 5 children and guests we too had the rush no matter what...
My first time watching u. I enjoyed your video. Will be watching more. I would of LOVE to your shabbos table. By away your little cupcakes look so delicious. I am sure your little one ENJOY them.🕎🕯🕯SHALOM L'SHANA TOVAH TO U AND FAMILY

As a RN I love to study nutrition and play in the kitchen. I haven’t tried intermittent fasting. Instead I’m doing the eat with “follow the Sun” routine, which has some similarities. Breakfast between 7-9am, lunch the two hours of high noon time (the biggest meal of the day) and evening meal within the 2 hours of sunset. (Weird thing most nurses I know don’t like nutrition, so I’m odd that way🤣)

You look beeeeautiful for shabbos!! I think intermittent fasting is great there are so many benefits, kol hakovod!! I found it hard in the beginning but u get used to it, if I wanted to eat something, I would say "you can, but later" to myself. Btw, I actually got up earlier than usual yesterday to bake some muffins for my kids, totally inspired by you!! It was a hit! So thank you!!
Aw thank you!!! I so appreciate your kind words :) glad to hear the positives about intermittent fasting! I’ve been trying it the past two days and so far I like it. There are results I hadn’t expected! I may make a video about it later :) I LOVE that you woke up early to make muffins!!!! And even more glad your kids enjoyed them :) What special memories y’all are making! Muffins made with love ❤️
Hello Jose! Thank you! For Shabbat breakfast we usually just eat cereal or some sort of muffin or scone I’ve baked the day before. Nothing fancy as we can’t cook :)
My parents had a bakery when I was growing up. Next time, you could rescue your cake by turning it into petit fours. Put your cake n te fridge. When chilled, cut into two layers with a long thin serrated knife. Set aside top layer. Mix jam withh rum or brandy, and spread evenly as thin layer on bottom. Cover with top layer. Cut pieces with a cutter or with a knife (into squares, or diamonds). Make an icing: wix powdered suar with corn syrup and hot water till firy runny. Met some white chocolate (can be done in a microwave) and sowly combine with the powdered sugar/cornsyrup.hot water mix. If too tick, add more hot water. if too thin, add more powdered suagr. Shoud have the consistecy of very thick gravy Pour over top, decorate delicately.
Live intermittent fasting. I found, as it seems many have as well, harder to do when you’re eating higher carb intake, just because the brain is a bonding thing, when that’s what’s it’s used to, that fast “sugar” energy. Works a lot easier, at least, if you and your eating window with less or no carbs & highly satiating, sustainable energy, healthy fats. I’m not hungry for 16, 18+ hours, everyday. Taking walks really helps, too, to turn off hunger & any healthy activity, really. But I love it. Brain clarity, energy, knowing I’m getting rid of cancerous cells…all good stuff.
I have been on Keto and intermittent fasting for 2yrs, lost 4 stone and helps with inflammation. It works! If you eat more fats is satisfies cravings to help with IM fasting.
@@jaroffireflies have you stuck with it? How do you like it, if you don’t mind me asking? I often drink water with 1 TBSP of ACV and 1 TBSP of organic lemon juice as well, it stabilizes my blood sugar/ gets rid of my cravings.
@@celestita8404 I have not stuck with it exactly, but I do stop eating after an early dinner with a few exceptions. So I am in a way doing it, but not using a clock :)
Shalom! Jenny Levich, Portland Oregon. My father was raised Orthodox Jewish in Iowa City, IA (Marvin Levich, born May 16, 1925; his first language was Yiddish). His mama, Edith Subotnik Levich, came from Minsk, Russia; his papa, Jacob Levich, came from Pinsk, Lithuania). In Iowa , they lived with Babushka (grandma) Rose. In 1933, my father was allowed to go to English-speaking Kindergarten. I went to my first Pesach at the age of 8 in Baltimore, MD, while attending third grade at P.S. 241. Later in Portland Oregon, at age 9, I started Hebrew School at Neveh Shalom. My completion certificate was signed by Ruth Menashe. So, I ate dinner a couple of hours ago, not too much but also not too few - hey, you gotta live a little (delicious stuff as always, my husband is the best chef in the world... yes, I'm bragging 😁) and I watched this video while laying satisfied in my bed... or so I thought. I'm hungry now. The food looked delicious, I love to see so many diffrent dishes prepared. I love real homecooked food. I can see how much love your husband is putting into the food preparation. I believe he's a master chef too. Your cakes looked perfect, I bet your children loved them! I do not believe in intermittent fasting. I follow a healthy diet (most of the times 😄) and try to listen to my body and his needs. Oh and I usually don't eat any sweets and I don't drink any alcohol, yes, I'm a bore. 😉 It works good for me though. Let's talk about more important things. I love your nail polish color! I have to do my nails too this week, I wanted to paint them red but I'll go for black. I'm using Shellac because it lasts longer but I'm very limited with the colors. Your before or after Shabbat videos I like the most. You always look so happy and beautiful in them (not saying that you don't look happy and/or beautiful in your other videos, but the Shabbat videos just hit different!). 💜
Brag away!!! It’s very nice to be married to an excellent cook! (I should know 😂)! Thank you so much for your kind words :) I really enjoy the before and after Shabbat videos too :) they are fun for me to make.
I enjoy your videos about Jewish life. I have always questioned the Jewish faith and you are explaining a lot to me. I also had questions about the killing of Jesus and why he converted from Judaism. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of it. Gigi
Looooove intermittent fasting. My sister and I have done it for about 2 years. After the initial week of hunger pangs you really get used to it. Promise!
Amazing thank you! I’ve been trying it for a couple days and I can already tell it’s having positive changes in how I eat. So happy to hear everyone’s positive stories!
I've been enjoying your videos so much! Any chance you can convince your husband to start a channel to teach us how to cook Israeli foods? Everything sounds SO delicious!
Don’t be so concerned about what your house looks like because right now, mine looks worse. I have two sons; one has never moved out of my nest and the older one moved back in about 4 years ago due to relationship issues. Oh, joy! The last time I moved , it took me a week to get all of my belongings sorted, cleaned, packed and moved to my present location. Afterward, it took several months for me to get most of my stuff set up and eventually settled. 🥵
Hi! New here! I love IF , I do 14.5 hours of fasting and that works for me! Avoid simple carbs and limit complex ones at night bc that will likely make you hungrier in the morning.😁
Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here! Thanks for your insights on IF! I would say I’m loosely following it at this point lol easing into it :) thanks for the tips about the carbs!
I have not tried intermittent fasting. My parents are doing it. I however would get a regular pattern of fasting on schedule. Before trying it. I typically do sun up to sun down once weekly. Eat Before sun up and again when down. You can slowly extend the hours of length in fasting by adding an hour on, Weekly. Until you feel you can physically handle 18 hours total. As an overall goal to get to. Once there and feel OK. Then include intermittent fasting. Just suggesting, though you don't have to. I know Jewish culture does fasting. but don't much, out side of Bible stories. learning because of videos like yours and others. Thank you and God bless! Shalom!
I grew up Seventh Day Adventist, and its interesting to see some things that are in common and some different. I do find it odd that Orthodox allows nail polish. These days, more Adventists are wearing makeup, but that was not really allowed when I was a kid. And no jewelry. Most Adventists didn't really wear wedding rings, either.
@jaroffireflies I am a Christian and I strongly dislike tattoos. I do think our skin and our bodies belong to God, so I dislike any kind of body piercing or tattoos.
Just found this interesting channel. I, too, have just started IF. I don't do it perfectly but after a lifetime of being big, the weight is starting to go. Btw, never forget being overweight is in the genes, latest research in Australia is showing that simplistic, eat less, exercise more rarely works. Our bodies were programmed somewhere during evolution to lay down fat reserves. After years of fat shaming, I am now calling it my super power. If food becomes scarce, the thin people are going to have nothing to fall back on. It's amazing the difference learning this has made to how I think about myself, I am nothing if not a survivor.
Does your husband enjoy cooking? Is that why he wants to make Shabbat dinner? I am Jewish however I am reform and we never had Shabbat dinner. We did of course celebrate the high holidays.
My husband loves to cook :) I do too, but I am happy to pass on that task to him so I can focus on other things. Plus his food is just so good! You should totally try a Shabbat dinner sometime! Its such a fun thing and a favorite spot in our week!
With the intermittent fasting. In my opinion. It is better to start eating in the morning & eating you last meal early. You as a mum, wife & domestic engineer you need to get the energy from the food to function for the day.
How long did it take you to unpack the last time you moved? I feel like this is taking forever for me lol

I recently purchased a new stove and it has a Shabbat feature which I got very excited about! I wonder how helpful it really would be?
Thank you for your videos. They are educational and real. Shabbat shalom!
I lovethe cakes 🎂 especially the icsing purple is my favourite colour 💜
Thank you! It was a fun color :)
Your welcome it sure was
Hi Chana! I'm new to your channel. Thank you so much for your lovely video!
Hi Bethany! Welcome! Thank you for your kind words :) I’m so glad you’re here!
Thanks for your videos 😊
My pleasure 😊
🙌. The best
My first time watching u.
I enjoyed your video.
Will be watching more.
I would of LOVE to your shabbos table.
By away your little cupcakes look so delicious.
I am sure your little one ENJOY them.🕎🕯🕯SHALOM

I love your channel❤. Christian stay at home wife and mother of 21 years❤. Love how sweet you are to your husband. So normal and opposite of society right now
Thank you! I’m so glad you’re here!
Hallo dear, happy to find your video, I am your fan now 💖
I wish you Shana Tova 🙏
Thank you so very much!
(Weird thing most nurses I know don’t like nutrition, so I’m odd that way🤣)
I’ve never heard of that! I’m definitely going to research. Sounds very cool! Thank you so much for the information! I really appreciate it!
@@jaroffireflies It’s from Traditional Chinese Med.TCM) otherwise like some folks say not to eat four hours before bed (8 sleep +4 fast=12 total fast, makes sense for a starting place)💞
That sounds so interesting, I think it makes sense to go according to the sun, its probably what ppl did in the olden days.
And it really is weird that nurses don't like nutrition lol!
@@aidele5757 it does sound like something folks used to do. They were so much more in tune with nature and seasons etc then, we could probably learn a lot from their habits :)
hallo Hannah, do you always eat cookies or cake for dessert? in the Netherlands we can also make custard pudding, my huisband does that on Saterday..than we can eat the dessert on Sunday...that is our day of rest...we love it....some homemade strawberry or chocolate saus with wipcreme...oh my so jammie...
We usually do cookies, but that's just us :) We also do pudding sometimes or floats or ice cream. But we also like cakes too as you saw :) Oh and fruit or strawberry shortcake are also yummy treats! Your desserts sound super yum!
Shabbat shalom
Shabbat shalom and shavua tov!

First!! Love your videos Chana!
Aw thank you! I am so glad you're here!
it’s always nice when your spouse comes home. you can get back into a routine.
Most definitely:)
Thank you for sharing! I used to live right next to the jewish orthodox community here in Montreal. It was fascinating to see and my curious self really wanted to be a fly on the wall behind their closed doors sometimes. I feel like watching your videos kind of gives me a sneak peek 😜 Virtual hugs! Sarah
Love that you get a sneak peek now! 💜 Thank you!
enjoy your inspiring videos you are a sweet lady
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words!
I’m enjoying your videos.🙂
Thank you!
The food....the food.....so looks delicious 😋

I’m so glad! You’re so kind to tell me! Thank you :)
I do intermittent fasting several days a week. It is good for me.
So glad that it works for you!
I’m so addicted to your channel
Thank you 😊
Hi Love your videos.
Can you do a video on Shabbat Breakfast. What are the options, recipes etc. Thank you
Hello Jose! Thank you! For Shabbat breakfast we usually just eat cereal or some sort of muffin or scone I’ve baked the day before. Nothing fancy as we can’t cook :)
@@jaroffireflies thank you for your reply.
@@josemanueltoledo8062 you are so very welcome!
pineapple upside down cake is always nice and easy.
Yes! I’m in the mood to make that now! Maybe for Shabbat this week!
I am not Jewish but,i am always eager to learn customs, religion etc. i like your channel from what i see thus far.
So glad you are here! Thank you!
Thank you so much for the tips! I’ll look into that!
@@jaroffireflies sorry about the typos!
@@MarySmith-gu5nb no worries!
Thank you so much for that insight and tips! I hadn’t heard that about how lower carb is helpful. Thanks!
I love your channel ❤
Thank so much!!!
I have been on Keto and intermittent fasting for 2yrs, lost 4 stone and helps with inflammation. It works! If you eat more fats is satisfies cravings to help with IM fasting.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I do intermittent fasting 16:8 every day! I love it, I’ve lost so much weight doing IF, thank the Lord!
So glad that is working for you!

Shabbat shalom! Thank you for that lovely introduction:)
Your cake was brilliant!!
Thank you!!!! Definitely not what I intended starting out but the kids LOVED them, and that’s really who I make dessert for anyways lol
I enjoy your videos about Jewish life. I have always questioned the Jewish faith and you are explaining a lot to me. I also had questions about the killing of Jesus and why he converted from Judaism. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of it. Gigi
He never converted from Judaism.
I love it!!!
So glad!
Oh he would not do that but he will let me film him! We plan to do the salads and the Moroccan fish after the high holidays :)
I really enjoyed watching your prep! I’m curious about your recipe for the carrot raisin muffins
Thank you! I haven’t done a video for that one yet!
Shalom!
Thanks for the fasting tips!
Thanks for the tips!
Hello! I am starting intermittent fasting in 2021 as well! My daughter swears by it. Q: Do you ship any of your bakery items out of state?
Glad to hear more positives about intermittent fasting! Unfortunately due to Texas cottage baking laws, I am unable to ship outside of Texas.
So interesting! Yes we are definitely allowed nail polish, makeup, jewelry, hair dye, just no tattoos! 😊
@jaroffireflies I am a Christian and I strongly dislike tattoos. I do think our skin and our bodies belong to God, so I dislike any kind of body piercing or tattoos.
Totally off the subject but your skin is GORGEOUS! I just had to say that!
Thank you so much! :)
I totally agree!
My 'oneg shabbat' is folding laundry during sabbat day which is definitely allowed
