Ok, I can see what I was doing differently: I wasn't adding rice flour, no cayenne, I never let the batter sit more than 30 minutes, I wasn't using corn starch to coat it (just regular flour as we're not gluten-free). It was fine but I was never fully happy with it, I felt something was lacking there. Your husband's singing was glorious! Happy Hanukkah! For some reason my husband, who grew up Catholic in Massachusetts, has always had to have gelt added to our Christmas stockings. He said it was a family tradition in his family. I think it must be because there is such a large Jewish community up there that they just picked it up and I just think it's sort of beautiful, though strange.

The only difference is I use peanut oil for my fish and my fries or i just toss my fries in oil and seasonings and bake. Happy Paw Patrol birthday to your son! I remember doing a Blues Clues party for one of my daughter's birthday complete with a home made blue paw print white and blue marble cake. We also have done camping for a holiday and it is such a happy fun memory. This year i worked for days on Thanksgiving. I hosted a dozen people using my tiny kitchen. What a wonderful video! I love the “Ta-dah” motion when he put the batter in the fridge. I literally chuckled out loud. We also celebrated birthdays with our children as family birthdays/meals when they were growing up. They were allowed to pick the special plates and cups and the type of “cake” they wanted. They were also allowed to pick the entire menu for their birthday meal. Some of the choices were quite the combinations . And I can’t tell you how many times my May baby insisted on chili. We love chili in our house but it is already very warm to even hot weather where we live in Georgia by May. Not exactly what one would call chili/soup weather. 😂 We also had many non-traditional desserts for their “birthday cakes.” It was their special day, so we had what they wanted. I feel blessed to have been a part of your candle lighting ceremony for the first day of Hanukkah. Thank you for that. I pray your holiday is a blessed one. Happy Birthday to your sweet baby boy. And choosing between Paw Patrol and PJ Masks is a true struggle. My grandson had the same struggle last year. PJ Masks was the winner here. What a wonderful video! I love the “Ta-dah” motion when he put the batter in the fridge. I literally chuckled out loud. We also celebrated birthdays with our children as family birthdays/meals when they were growing up. They were allowed to pick the special plates and cups and the type of “cake” they wanted. They were also allowed to pick the entire menu for their birthday meal. Some of the choices were quite the combinations . And I can’t tell you how many times my May baby insisted on chili. We love chili in our house but it is already very warm to even hot weather where we live in Georgia by May. Not exactly what one would call chili/soup weather. 😂 We also had many non-traditional desserts for their “birthday cakes.” It was their special day, so we had what they wanted. I feel blessed to have been a part of your candle lighting ceremony for the first day of Hanukkah. Thank you for that. I pray your holiday is a blessed one. Happy Birthday to your sweet baby boy. And choosing between Paw Patrol and PJ Masks is a true struggle. My grandson had the same struggle last year. PJ Masks was the winner here. He said since he was Chase from Paw Patrol for Halloween a few weeks earlier, it was only fair. Funny how little boy’s brains work. I will definitely be using the fish batter recipe soon.
