    The funniest thing about the New York Glock trigger is how the NYPD’s lawyers kept blaming their shootings of themselves and others on the trigger being too light, so in defending themselves from accountability they wound up with that shitty Glock trigger. Hope it was worth it!

    And the bullet holes are ragged because it's a Glock Memory Barrel™. Previous owner most likely imprinted hollow points into its memory. The barrel "remembers" and tries to simulate HP, regardless of the ammo type you actually use.

    One time i was at Capitol Armory in Austin, and was molesting a SiCo Maxim9 and upon the first pull of the trigger made an audible exclamation of "holy hell that's the worst trigger I've ever felt!" Long, gritty, heavy. The portly gent behind the counter then began to extoll the virtues of abysmal triggers to me as a "safety" feature and referenced the NY Glocks as evidence. Never went back.

    For Josh:
    I’m pretty sure he knows how to shoot exceptionally well. My advice to viewers is.
    If your grip is not correct, re holster try again.
    Insure you get a proper grip.
    Drawing should be a about a three step two speed process.
    High speed to grip high speed to acquire front sight
    Slow way down as you acquire the dot and press out.
    That said I will admit this is more a reminder for me than anyone else.
    Josh shoots now in a day than I do in a year.

    • @9HoleReviews
      @9HoleReviews  5 місяців тому +11

      Agree that in the aspect of training, feeling what is 'right' at X% (somewhere less than 100) speed is extremely valuable as you're working into things. In fact, you can see an example of that in this episode where after confirming I wasn't really indexing correctly / applying correct grip pressure, I allowed myself a bit more time to perceive where the sight was coming onto the target...what you can't 'see' in the video is that on each draw after draw 4/5 is that I'm actually making adjustments to pressure and grip (in the support hand) to try and feel out where the appropriate pressure is to hit the index point I need.

      Iirc back then i was not the fastest in my plattoon, and i did it in 29s flat.
      From loaded condition to stripped, back to loaded condition. And no, that "exam" was not done with live ammo and the one from the chamber was not just ejected anywhere, but had to be placed standing on the desk in front of us, but we were allowed to leave it there and not put it back into the mag.
      (the guy doing the "exam" next to me, did just eject the chambered round... it flew by my head. He lost 10-15 seconds in searching for it on the floor. He was marked down and needed a second try to redeem himself)

    Most important thing I've learned about draw and fire practice is you need to work through any unexpected issue, especially with concealed carry. Did you draw fast and accidentally grip some of your shirt or maybe didn't clear it properly? DO NOT RESET. Work through the mistake safely and continue. If you do not train THROUGH your mistakes you wont know what to do when it happens. If you practice your CC draw and reset because you dont clear your garment you're making a vital mistake! This applies to OWB as well - If your grip is off on your draw.... work through it! Do not ever reset.

    When I started working on Glocks in early 2001, I experimented with the combinations of the polymer inserts for the trigger spring. I actually prefer them, specifically the 8lb in concert with a 3.5 connector. The advantage is a smoother trigger. The insert pushes up on the cruciform, giving better engagement. It also gives a delrin surface for the cruciform to move across. The 8lb insert with a 3.5 connector gives an average pull weight (on a manual gauge) of around 5 to 5.5 lbs. The Gen 5 trigger spring system works similarly to these old inserts. A Gen 5 is basically a Gen 2 with a modified insert system and an accurized barrel.

Once you train enough to be competent with the worst trigger in the world...which you CAN with practice...then ANY pistol you pick up you'll do even better with. Only shooting the very easiest trigger is like weightlifting using only the naked bar....progressive increasing resistance is how you improve.

    I think the 12# trigger was the reason I initially hated Glocks. Once I got one with a normal factory trigger I have grown to love the Glock.
    What I don’t care for is the Glock haters that bitch about that lack of innovation. 🤦‍♂️ it was designed as a service and duty sidearm. It fits that criteria perfectly. If you want to “make it your own” you can but don’t hate the gun for being a basic functional perfectly capable firearm.
    It’s a pickup truck. If you wanted a Porsche don’t bitch about the truck you bought.
    The 1911 is the same gun basically unchanged for 113 years. Yet I don’t see nearly the level of hate. And people freely customize them with an entire industry supporting the aftermarket parts for them. Too many people want their “ideal” gun write out of the box.
    Here’s a clue. The ideal gun don’t exist. You either need to modify your gun or accept the current configuration. It’s that simple. Guns are tools not fashion accessories.

    You should listen to Ben Stoeger on aiming concepts. He would say that you're way over-confirming your sight or dot alignment. His technique is heavy target focus, and the second you see red on the A zone rip shots. If your grip is proper they should stack on the spot where your eyes are focused. After practicing this a bit, it really does work. Inside of 25 yards this really sped me up a ton and accuracy improved.

    • @9HoleReviews
      @9HoleReviews  5 місяців тому +2

      Very familiar with Ben. I think maybe some of what I'm saying is lost in the delivery...I'm certainly target focused, but I'm still able to perceive where the dot is in relation to the target (Ben's 'hot girl' analogy). Given that you're watching me draw and shoot the gun for the first time here, I was able to use the relation of the dot to the target to 'know' that I was not indexing correctly after the first 3-5 shots. Given I wasn't indexing correctly, I opted to try and be more deliberate with the presentation to ensure I was getting "A zone" hits as I modified grip pressure on the subsequent draws to see how it impacted my index/presentation and return to zero point.
      When I'm saying that I'm making a refinement with the dot post-presentation, part of that is me trying to process how 'off' my index is and trying to feel how much I need to adjust that on subsequent draws, etc.

      @@billbee235 One of the greatest challenges I've had doing this show is constantly changing guns every week we go shoot. It really has forced me to be more deliberate with things like the grip/index and paying attention to where I'm making mistakes. Lots of things translate conceptually, but, things like the grip and feel in the hand, support hand connection, etc. do tend to change (even as much as I try to keep them the same). It's been very interesting working through all that while still 'attempting' to put together effective demonstrations, etc.
      Pistol is still a skill I have LOTS to learn on. I'm about an 85% shooter on pistol (or at least I was when I was being consistent) and while that's better than most people, the curve of skill between there and 100% is still absolutely insane.

    Great vid as always, Gents. The Glock pistol, as designed by a man who was an industrialist versus firearms designer, is an interesting enough gadget. Its greatest achievement lies in the administrative and bureaucratic realm, permitting a cheap, reliable pistol suitable for issue to large organizations for lower maintenance requirements and costs. In all other regards dealing with shooting, the intangibles of ownership and individual confidence in the piece, it's largely "meh".

    • @curgunner
      @curgunner 5 місяців тому +4

      As not a glock fan, I think you are selling it short a bit. Glocks shoot pretty damn well with the low bore axis and decent grip. They were more reliable than most everything outside of the last 5-10 years. Better stuff is out now, but I can understand using one even today when I go to buy a holster for a handgun and realize I have maybe 2 options for my gun and light combo, whereas literally everyone makes everything you could want for a glock.

      @@curgunnerone more deal is this. One slap in the face of reality.
      Most, certainly well over 90% of private handgun owners make any pistol "meh" with their own absence of talent.
      Essentially, it's not the tool's fault that Glocks give a poor or mediocre impression when used...it's merely the tool that's usually in the hands of the unskilled or mediocre when they display their incompetence to themselves.
      And no, I'm not bashing LE, for all the things an LE has in his day I'm not going to criticize that he doesn't take four or five hours of every week to work on skills that he's highly unlikely to ever use in his entire career. Frankly, because most LE that are considered "bad shots" by other LE are still far more effective than 90% of civilians in a gunfight.

    I was a NYC police officer from 1974 to 1994. In the late 80's I was a firearms instructor at the NYC Police Academy when Gaston Glock introduced us to the Glock 19. At the time, Glocks came with a 3lb, 5 lb or 8 lb trigger. Don't know why, but the department went with the 5 lb trigger. I would've opted for the 8lb trigger as NYC cops were used to S&W Model 10 revolvers that had 13lbs triggers. Anyway, we started have negligent discharges that were blamed on the light trigger. So, we had all the police officers that had Glocks, come back to the range so that we could retro fit them with was the first of the NY triggers. I think, if we had just instilled better firearms safety training, that would've been better. But, who am I? I believe a second NY trigger came later. I don't know if they ever went over the 8lb trigger. I own a Glock 19 gen. 5 MOS. That, I believe is the Glock perfection. In my humble opinion.

    High grip mixed with stupid low bore axis means it recoils stupid light and points easy peasy, then to top of the perfection it has trapezoid sights that aren't used on any other handgun out there but make getting on target faster than what you can do with a red dot.
    It's just the perfect EDC handgun that requires zero modifications out of the box (unless you have an early gen M9-A1, then you'll want to get grip tape because that bitch is smooth lmao) IMHO
