To the gentleman in this video, let me offer some wisdom from the wrong side of 68 years and 50 years of adventure/tour motorcycle riding: a woman who can share such adventures, with all the discomforts, and stay in good spirits, is as rare as hen's teeth and worth her weight in gold. Treasure her!!!

@@BassOutcast I've been watching the Itchy Boots channel lately, a Dutch woman who has been making a living posting videos of her globe-trotting on a Royal Enfield Himalayan 400. She has an irrepressibly sunny personality through thick and thin, even her horrible last few weeks in Peru under CV19 lockdown. She always rides alone, though, no man to argue with or blame misfortunes on. Thankfully, she's back home now.

Me wondering if I could go on a long trip with my DRZ400sm
    These two on 90cc bikes!
BTW, that guy pulling that white cart was walking for a lot more than 4 months. I was a truck driver on the Alaska Highway for a few years starting back in 2006 and he was walking across BC and Yukon on his way to the Bering Sea to cross during winter. Some guys gave him food or warm clothing and apparently he had been walking for years, starting in South America. It was some kind of spiritual thing to walk back home to Japan.
    Impressive.

because of this man, I sold three of my motorcycles. My Honda GL 1800 Goldwing, my Moto Guzzi norge, and my commuter Honda pacific coast. I replaced the loss of those three motorcycles with a Kawasaki Z 400.
this guy made me realize that you do not need a large motorcycle. over the last three decades, I kept getting larger and larger motorcycles. I started out on smaller ones, but I just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger ones. Now I am on what I consider to be a small motorcycle, and the fun is back… I actually can scrape by with just 48 hp..

I have a Honda Trail 70 from when I was a kid. Indestructible bike, quite literally. We abused it horrifically, never did any maintenance on it until something broke and 40 years later (yes, I am old) it is still running. I think the bike is a 1974 model but I am not sure. My dad bought it used in 1979 when I was 5 years old. I keep it up at my cottage and we regularly drop it in the river. Starts every single time after be flood it. Legendary.

I remember seeing the guy with the cart when trucking to Alaska. There was another guy from Italy that was pushing a cart from Anchorage South too. I stopped and chatted with him one time on Army Hill in Northern BC. I did not see you guys in my many trips to Alaska. In 2006 I went up the Dalton on a BMW 1150 GS and it was poring the whole trip. That heavy bike definitively sucked big times.

Back in 2010, I rode from Phoenix, AZ U.S. to Prudhoe Bay, AK and back on a Yamaha XT225 built from the parts of 3 different bikes and a lot of aftermarket parts. I rode alone, and carried 6 gallons of gas, 4 gallons in the aftermarket Clarke gas tank, and 2 more in 1 gallon jugs stuffed in Tusk tank panniers. I barely had enough for the final ride into Prudhoe Bay. You have to be careful getting gas in Prudhoe Bay, I filled up with some that had water in it. I found out about that about 20 miles after leaving. Fortunately I had a carbureted bike, and was able to clean out all the watered down gas, and use the 2 gallons of good gas to get back and get gas from a different place. I managed t fins an empty clear 1 gallon jug, and filled it up 4 times, to make sure there was no water at the bottom. Other than a flat tire, that was the only issue on the whole trip.
Don't be afraid of the trucks on the Dalton. They won't try to run you off the road. Yes people have been hit by rocks thrown up by them, but it's not their fault. It's a gravel road, and they have to make good time. You wouldn't believe what they are being paid. They're not getting rich though. It costs a fortune to live up there. I believe every single truck driver waved at me.
I could never made it up there on a C90. I weigh 240 American pounds, about the same as an XT225 without gas and oil. A C90 would have broken in half under me. I posted this trip on advrider.com. The pictures and video are not great. I did not have a drone or a tripod, and didn't want to have to stop and set up photo shoots. I just took pictures and video when I had the opportunity. I was 51 years old at the time. Just turned 62, and am planning another motorcycle trip.
The Dalton can be fairly easy at the right time of the year, IF you are prepared. It is an absolute nightmare at the wrong time of the year. You run the risk of freezing to death, or crashing on the icy roads. If you go at the right time, it will never get dark, which causes some mental confusion. Having been in the military, I chose to use military time instead of trying to deal with AM and PM.

Loved the video. Did that ride on a BMW R1200 GSA in 2007. You were lucky. Blizzards can happen in the Brooks Range any time of year. Grizzlies, Black bears, moose, and wolves are no joke up there. And when they run a grader over the calcium chloride impregnated mud, it's like riding on 6 inch deep whipped cream. If you broke down, it costs a fortune to have someone come from Fairbanks to haul you back. It was $5 a mile both ways in 2007. Can't imagine what it is now.

Hey, HI!!! Couple things. 1st, we have been searching for months for a good Overlanding vlog. We have one too, and we like taking inspiration, and just being entertained. This is the best one we have seen since Kombi Life. We were laughing so hard. 2nd, I think we meet Racheal in Cabo Pulmo. She said she had separated from her boyfriend for a few days, and well she was the first other overlander we meet, although it was late, and we had already packed up to leave very early in the morning to book our tickets on the ferry. Was that her??? ask her if she remembers us?? Where are you guys now??? We are in Guatemala studying Spanish on Lake Atitlan.

We too are way behind in production of the actual episodes. We waited to tell we had a back stock so we can stay consistent, but we know what it's like to have to rent places for a week to work...I just saw the video where you were asking for money. Anyways....about The Other Overlanders. I realise it might be a while before we run into each other, but maybe we can stay connected and when we get close enough to one another we can try to make it happen....if your into it???? Do you have instagram? I feel like it's a good way to see where people are relatively.

Oh my days!! these guys are just great. I didn't comment on the first video (I should have though but wotever) All I can see if you ever come down to Spain please let us know on a video update. I know things are a bit fd up due to Covid19 but wow you share my philosophy of riding. I've just decided to sell my big monster AfricaTwin 2018 for a a cr250l and I am in love with the new lightweight machine. I haven't seen all videos but I just love your narrative and very English humour. Looking forward to watching the rest of this crazy adventure.

Revisited this video after several years and it is still entertaining. It's a shame things didn't work out with you and Rachel. You guys seemed so good together.

Brilliant video, Ed! Did feel like it could do with a bit more explosions though...

    I sure enjoyed this one.
Looks like y’all had a lot of fun, and saw a lot of interesting things.
The best part for me was your sweet girlfriend Rachel.
Not many women would have put up with the hardships of this kind of trip.
Loved that you both seem to have kept your sense of humor at full blast the whole way.
    Onward
