As a native Greek, I greatly appreciate not only the meticulous research you do for each video, but also your attention to correctly pronounce the (difficult for foreigners) Greek names. This is something that has impressed me in all your videos about Greek mythology. Your pronunciation BTW is spot on- one would think that you can actually speak Greek! Thank you for giving people a chance to learn about Greek mythology, while being respectful at the source material at the same time.

It'd hard not to feel sorry for the "monsters" by the end of their storoes.
Yes
I remember watching the Odyssey mini series that came out in the 90s as a kid. Even tho the series is kind of campy, one of the scariest parts of the show is when Odysseus and him men come in contact with these horrible monsters! I own the miniseries now and listening to you describe it made me want to watch it again! Can't get enough of this channel. Thanks
I never heard the story of Scylla . This was actually rather interesting. It seems there are so many back stories to a lot of the mythological beings that start with mortality and beauty.
One depiction was she did have six heads and arms that were tentacles ending in hands.
rewatching this after 2 years for enhypen's comeback!
OMG I DIDNT KNOW A FELLOW ENGENE WOULD COMMENT HERE LMAO, im trying to get some theories here😂
Mee too
Oh my god me tooo

The deadly rocks and the whirlpool which inspired the Greek legends of Scylla and Charbydis are actually located in the Calabria region of southern Italy -Scylla is a town on the northern tip of the Straits of Messina -Greek sailors and travellers would have encountered these places on their voyages. Most of the coasts of south Italy and Sicily were colonised by Greeks and the most notable was Naples whose Greek original name is Neapolis -the New City which is not far away.
Im guessing the place is name after the monster and not the other way around

I remember this monster from 9th grade when my class watched Homers Odyseey movie. Been to Sicily and the place they call "Scylla's rock" and it is HUGE. Also, in Warriors Orochi 3 by Koei, they used Scylla as basis for their Hydra.
Scilla is now a very beautiful town

"Between a Rock and a hard place"
Wonderful video, saaad story. Love the hydra artwork at the beginning.
My first inroduction with Scylla was in a NES game called Kick Master, at that time I couldn't understand her form. Then, years after I encountered her in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night... That was an epic moment (at least for me). Excellent video!
What I heard about Scylla and Caribous was that Scylla scorned Poseidon and Caribous went all "Swim Fan" on him. Scylla left the water to a cliff and Poseidon cursed her. Caribous tried to win his affection by claiming more land for the sea and either Zeus or Poseidon cursed her to swallow and vomit the tide for the rest of time. They were placed together because one loved Poseidon too much and the other not enough.
Waiting for this one for a while. Also my favorite smite god to play as. Thank you for all your hard work and the great video!

Smite Is The Reason I Came Here.XD
The version of Scylla I am familiar with had six tentacles, each with a hand on it. Ulysses chose to go closer to Scylla because he'd lose just 6 men, instead of the whole boat to Charybdis. Don't remember what version of the Odyssey mine was
Aww poor Scylla
Atleast she gets a spotlight with Godzilla tho
Uh about that
Love from Greece brother
Is it weird that I feel sorry for Scylla?
No, it's the right thing to do and it's completely normal
nop, she didnt really deserve it (who does in Greek myth). She was shallow as hell but still, and those sailors, theyre just snacks to her

Another hot babe turned into monstrosity. Monsters aren't borne they 're made...
Scylla and Charybdis are in one story from anthology "Kaiju Rising"
Daimon X because of her vanity
@@Deathmournex I disagree on her vanity as much as a witches jealousy of her beauty
Thomas Stites and she either killed her or turned into what she really (depending what you read) is inside out because deep within scylla she maybe pretty but on the inside shes a pretty ugly monster with vanity and circe teaches her a permanent lesson
@@Deathmournex all circe does is curse out of her own selfish gains though she seems like a bitter witch who finds enjoyment of teaching a lesson (in her eyes) that's not hers to give so in my opinion Scylla really didnt do anything wrong and was cursed for a reason unknown to her
Speaking of kaiju, Scylla is also a Titan in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and there is a kaiju named after her in the Ultraman series.

*Do the Kraken next*
The kraken is a legendary cephalopod-like sea monster of giant size that is said to dwell off the coasts of Norway and Greenland. Is not from Greek mythology.
@@juanfelixsoto so? He does other mythologies
I know. But most people think that the Kraken is from the Greeks. I'm sure he can talk about it. I also want to know more about Norway myths...
@@juanfelixsoto that always confused me, so what is the 'Kraken' in Clash of the Titans, the old awesome one, where it has 3 arms
If I remember correctly the monster was called Cetus. I don't know why they call it "Kraken." Is not the first time people mix mythologies.
Personally I've always been terrified by the Odessy 1997 tv movie version...with worm colored coils and long Flytrap fangs.
