Peugeot has officially pulled the covers off the new E-3008 and confirmed that the electric 'fastback' SUV will come with up to 435 miles on a full charge if you go for its largest 98kWh battery. With a plush, high specced interior the French brand is heading upmarket with this car and is set to compete in the same price bracket as models like the Kia EV6, Nissan Ariya and Audi Q4 e-tron.
It’s the first car to use an all-new underpinnings from the parent company Stellantis - which is big news when that parent has a LOT of children. Called the STLA Medium electric platform, it’s been designed with eclectic cars in mind - and when you bearing mind that the platform or underpinnings of a car are like the foundations of a house, that’s a good thing.
There’s a choice of two battery sizes all with decently fast 160kW DC charging and you can opt for front or all-wheel drive, with single or dual motors. But the real headline figure is a long-range version with that possible 435-miles of official range. According to our sums, that figure is only beaten by the £100,000 Mercedes EQS in the UK at the moment. But the Peugeot will cost considerably less, prices haven’t been confirmed yet, but expect them to start around £45,000 in the UK and head upwards from there.
The Standard Range model will use a 207bhp electric motor to drive the front wheels. A new 73kWh battery pack will give a range of 326 miles WLTP tested, and it has a charging speed of 160kW allowing a 20% to 80% top-up to be completed in 30 minutes. The Standard Range will get from 0-62mph in 8.7 seconds and top out at 105mph.

When the current 308 launched, I immediately wondered, how are they going to beat this innovative and stunning design in the next generation? Well, with the evolutionary design of the new model they proved that they can be revolutionary every time. They have outdone themselves. Well done Peugeot!

My last fuel based car was a 2017 P3008, which I liked most of all 15 earlier cars I drove. Beautiful car, elegant inside, nice driving. I actually liked the iCockpit. After that I wanted to ‘go electric’ and ended up with the great Kia eNiro. A very good and efficient car, I will not return to fuel now, and intend to use most of the 7y guarentee period. But it stirs less emotion than the Peugeot. I fear for the price of this new 3008, but it definitively deserves another look if I would be in the market again ….

There's nothing game changing about a nearly 100kwh battery coupled with an under powered piddly motor that only drives two wheels so it can't drain that battery too fast being able to go a reasonably long distance. Props to them for the design efforts, hopefully they can make it semi adorable, but they haven't changed the game.....at all.

Indeed! Takes longer to charge, costs more to charge. The only reason why ICE cars carry so much fuel that gives them range (historically) is because refuelling is inconvenient. You actually have to go somewhere to do it.

The 3008 is a staple car on the scheme and has a decent enough deposit. @@user-dd4op6ip3sI have an IONIQ 5, average 4.1 miles/kWh - mostly slow city and B roads, much less on the motorway. Even at 4.1 with a 100kwh battery, you’re not going to hit the 435. And let’s face it, the time you really need the long range is road trips using motorways. I’m guessing closer to 350 in those conditions

I’ve just ordered one on Motability and cannot wait for it to arrive. Motability are even installing a charging unit at our home for no extra cost. I strongly advise if you are in the scheme to move to electric as your next lease due to the combustion engine being phased out in the next 6-8 yrs. so new cars will be electric.

At last, some common sense i.e. thinking about range. With newer, sportier electric cars recently announced, what is the point of being able to go from 0-60 in less than 4 seconds when the car only has a range of about 200 miles, when the UK charging system is still pretty hopeless. Probably all advocates of those cars live in London and their longest journey is only 30 miles (and not sure where you can show off the 0-60 speed - probably on the M4 on the way to Heathrow to get their flight to Dubai, certainly not thinking about a holiday driving down to Cornwall). When charging an electric car takes the same time as filling up a car with petrol then range will not be an issue, but that won't be for many, many years.

  • @Pete.C

Kindly asking: if you post a video on a global platform and mention range, would you mind showing or mentioning it in metric too? The whole world is not only UK and USA.

I had an ICE 3008 before my E C4 and a very good car it was too. However I really don't like those screens stuck on top of the dash. Also WHY has it suddenly become a thing to have black headlining? So depressing and claustrophobic. Renault started this in the Megane E Tech, the new Kona has it for the UK market (not apparently in Ireland and certainly not in Korea) and now this and the new Scenic. I don't want to drive around in the dark!

I don't believe the official range for a second but 98 kWh should be enough to do acceptable distances between stops on a long holiday drive, which would be quite relevant to a lot of prospective clients in mainland Europe. A cabin where young kids can comfortably stay for 2-3 hour stints, without dipping too far below 20% range and thus have more options of when and where to stop to charge.

You are right, Peugeot have won many awards but then so have many other manufacturers, Audi, BMW, Nissan, Toyota, Volvo, VW etc.etc. Who is to say which of these is the 'best car'?
That's what makes this all so interesting and fun, they all have their own style, strengths and weaknesses.
We all have our own opinions, feelings and needs about what is the best car. The variety of manufacturers exist because they meet these differences of opinions.
