  • The large 98KwH battery in the e-3008 should help it travel over 400 miles on a single charge. I am looking forward to seeing how realistic this really is.

    3:00 They are telling us the WLTP range. It is not something what they can "tell 50 miles less about". Those are strict tests and I believe they are obliged to tell what the tests show. So, WLTP over-estimates that range. That is true usually, but that is the fault of the test system. Also: in Spain you will probably get better ranges, because there is less rain and higher temperatures than in UK.

  • @afcgeo882
    @afcgeo882 2 місяці тому

    Tish, the issue isn’t that manufacturers are marketing dishonestly, but rather that the WLTP process is ludicrous. No manufacturer ever gets anything close to what’d claimed through the WLTP circuit.

    • @AutoSocialUK
      @AutoSocialUK  2 місяці тому

      Yes apologies I am aware that it works that way but if that was the case, you’d think all brands would be consistently poor/good but some are much further off the claimed figures than others. If you get what I mean?

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 2 місяці тому

      @@AutoSocialUK I know that some brands adjust their numbers (Tesla) and I know that the measuring process is off by different margins because it fails to account for technological differences in vehicles. It’s PURELY a laboratory calculation.
      In the US, the EPA uses an actual stretch of a road to calculate economy. It fails sometimes as well because not every stretch is the same, of course, but it’s generally more accurate because it’s a real driving test instead of a purely theoretical one.
      While the WLTP is more reliable than the NEDC test it replaced, it’s still awfully ambitious in EV ranges.
      For example, Gen 2 Nissan Leaf with the 40 kWh battery can go 151 miles on the EPA cycle, but 170 miles on the WLTP. The real range seems to be around 100-110 miles.

    I applaud you for questioning the ACTUAL efficiency and range figures. To be honest I do not learn much from these manufacturer paid for jollies, for motoring journalists/UA-camrs to just spew brochure spec. You are an excellent presenter who knows her stuff and I like you questioning the viewer over style and practicality points. But WLTP vs real world range is the biggie and affects the uptake of EVs with too many disappointed owners. A motorway range test in all types of weather especially cold weather should be a must when you get it back in the UK. Disappointing that so many manufacturers are going down the "massive heavy" battery route and not drivetrain efficiencies, lighter bodywork and smaller, narrower tyres (BMW i3 is just a distant memory at this point😆)

    The problem with this car is the platform is a compromise for electric and ICE which probably adds to the weight and reduces efficiency. For the price I’d rather have a Tesla model Y. They weigh slightly under 2 tonne. They are also very efficient but against that, the interior in this does look quite plush and the seats very comfortable

    Much too heavy and way too expensive! I don't get why the hell carmakers insist on creating big, heavy closets on wheels, jampacked with useless power hungry gimmicks and enormous wheels. Soon they will be as big as horse carriages. Ridiculous. An EV should in first instance be as light as possible, as aerodynamic as possible and with equipment that is designed to consume as little as possible (or not at all if possible) . They al claim to have class leading aerodynamics but that's a big lie as they only talk about CX drag values, not the SCX frontal values. And it's the frontal value that pushes the most air in front of the car while the CX is only responsible about the drag or dissipating in the most favorable way the air without creating vortexes with negative impact (slowing down the car by pulling it backwards due to under pressure). So please stop telling that such cars are aerodynamic as they all are a pile of bricks on wheels. This car will never, and I mean never, reach the claimed range, not even when knowing that they all lie about their ranges (big time). None of them will ever dare to mention the real life range while they all damn well know this. They are just afraid of losing customers who really believe the claimed ranges are true (and there are a lot of these).

      Much less in the cold, in the rain, uphill, or against windy conditions, all things EV's struggle with. There may be a "safe" 200 mile range, in the UK you'd have to plan carefully to avoid having to charge for hours, or wait for hours then charge for hours. Then after 3 years, if you're mad enough to have bought it, you'll be lucky to see 30% of your cash back, and by then the battery will holid a solid 10% less charge than new....

It’s still not good enough. And people are starting to NOT buy EV. Apart from their repair costs, insurance and , lunatic propaganda that they are better. Err, emissions from brakes, regen and tyres are far worse than an equivalent ICE diesel. Pass.

      🤦‍♂️

    • @raphaelmabo5014
      @raphaelmabo5014 2 місяці тому

      Range figures are WLTP. The WLTP driving cycle is divided into four parts with different average speeds: low, medium, high and extra high. Each part contains a variety of driving phases, stops, acceleration and braking phases. All vehicle makers uses the same test, it’s a standard. It’s actually not an estimation. The numbers given are for what the car can do in the WLTP test conditions.
      I would say that the range is more than enough. You don’t drive from full to empty battery in one go, you must likely need to take a break sometime during the drive. And then you can charge the car.
      Electric cars are nicer to drive than diesels, they are faster, has better climate systems, they are less noisy, and they have zero exhaust.

    • @S4MM7ify
      @S4MM7ify 2 місяці тому +4

      1. Can you name one ICE model that consistently hits its WLTP economy/emission figures? Doesn’t make it right, I agree the system again needs changing but it’s definitely not a reason to go ICE.
      2. How do people start to NOT buy EV? Also, the sales growth has slowed down admittedly but that’s most likely been down to a successful misinformation campaign you’ve fallen for hook, line and sinker.
      3. All modern cars cost an arm and a leg to repair. A new engine or gearbox isn’t cheap either. Brexit hasn’t helped parts supply, further upping repair costs. I note you haven’t found that in your research. Perhaps the sources of your information aren’t particularly reliable.
      4. Insurance. I admit it’s subjective but I’ve just bought an EV worth twice as much as the 5 year old hot hatch I just got rid of. EV has more power and faster 0-62 yet insurance didn’t cost a single penny more. I’d worried about the insurance increase as I’d probably heard the same rubbish as you, but I can tell you from personal experience, it isn’t strictly true.
      5. A little embarrassing for you this one, sorry. I’ll be kind. Regen braking, especially one pedal driving like you get on most electric cars mean you don’t have to touch the friction brakes at all for potentially hundreds or thousands of miles. Regen doesn’t emit anything, it’s literally using the motor in reverse to charge the battery. Tyres - smoother power delivery mean they can last longer on EVs. Tusker, a leading leasing firm have stated that there is so far no evidence that EVs eat through tyres faster than their ICE counterparts.
      Literally nothing you’ve said holds water. PLEASE do your own research and ignore what you’ve read in the tabloid press. They only print what they think you want to hear. I own both ICE and EV so have no bias. Only for the truth and facts.

    Battery cars degrade every day , can’t stop it , the end , every day they are degrading until one day they will be totally useless , nothing looks worse than a four year old Tesla , they look like second hand fridges , anyhoo just had the Addams family on in the background while reading and heard Gomez calling his wife Tish , is that where you got your name ?

      You could say that about every car on the roads though? Batteries have shown no sign of excess wear that we should be worried about and the TELSA was never an inspiring design to start with 😂 hahaha I believe her name is Latisha, mine is Natisha. But maybe that is where there got some inspiration.

    Is Stellantis a power house? Or is it a collection of B-team brands pushed together in a desperate attempt to get economy of scale?
    Have they produced anything genuinely interesting over the last few years?
    "They have been at the forefront of the electric revolution..." ROFL.... no, they're late to the party with cars with inadequate design, range and longetivity. Their electric offerings are hugely compromised so far.... I'm beginning to think the presenter is talking our of her derriere, so that these unknowns can get more press cars, better invites, etc etc.

      Spot on, and that that the French seem to be having more say is the nail in the coffin for the brand, would have never happened under Sergio M;s watch

      I have a Stellantis EV, as a company car. No way would I buy one with my own money, as they are massively overpriced at list price. There are huge discounts available on most, up to 20%, but even then too high. The car I have is a really nice car, but it would have to be 50% of the list price to interest me as a private buyer.

      I love really stupid comments like this. I gather he just wants a reply. So I will oblige. Peugeots have always had good road handling - how good varies with the particular model. Of all the negatives I have read about Peugeots , this is the first time I have heard the mention about poor road handling (50 years of rally wins = poor handling - I don't think so.). Flimsy cars - not sure exactly what is meant by that however our family has driven at least 10 million kms in Peugeots. Never noticed any flimsiness. In fact most modes are extremely robust. If they weren't they would never have had rally success. If you want more specific information just reply and I'll provide it.
      But please - try to make sensible comments.
